Four of us went to the Bugeye on $10.00 off beef night and we all ordered the Top Sirloin as recommended by our server. I had requested it be cooked medium rare and it was well done. The flavor was good but salty. The mashed potatoes were cold. We had soup for a starter. The roasted red pepper and the cream of crab were both hot and delicious. I have been to this establishment several times and the food is hit or miss. As choices on the Island go, this is one is on par with the better restaurants. This was our first time dining at Bugeye Grill after seeing them on a local FB restaurant page. I saw on their website they took reservations so I opted to make one just incase, I'm glad we did when we arrived they had a very long waitlist so that is good to know for the future. We were sat upstairs by a window overlooking the solomons bridge which was wonderful as the sun was just setting. The only negative in regards to seating is how dark it was in there once the sun did set. I understand mood lighting for ambiance but the lighting was beyond dark. There was a small battery operated candle on the table and a recessed light maybe 2 or so tables away. At one point we had to use the flash on our cameras to see if there were any clams remaining in the shells lol but other than that it was really quite nice. We started w/ a dozen steamed clams & butter as well as the clams casino. Both were delicious and fresh! For entrees: we went w/ the filet topped w/ blue cheese (AMAZING! I rarely order steak when dining out as it's often not cooked to my liking, but this was superbly cooked & the flavor combination of the steak, blue cheese, & reduction sauce was incredible!) Club sandwich- HUGE and stuffed with lots of shaved meats. The fries were hot & crispy. Definitely a great deal at $12 Seared Tuna- this was a delicious dish but much more an appetizer size portion. Either they should add more pasta & vegetables or drop the price. DH ended up eating part of the club sandwich & fries because he was still hungry. Now on to the bad which was the service. Granted our server who was also the bartender was pleasant he was pretty much absent most of the night. Several times we ordered beer and 15 or so minutes would go by and he'd realize he forgot them. He did mention they were short staffed but during our dining experience there was only 2 other couples dining upstairs. At one point we overheard another employee come up and ask if he needed a hand at all...a guest in our party who had been waiting for his beer now for 10 minutes whispered under his breath " for lords sake yes he needs some help!" Our waiter said no he was fine and didn't need assistance. As the night went on it got to the point I basically was going to the bar to remind him that we had ordered drinks or refills on water. Toward the end of the meal I had to go to the bar to ask for our check because we had already been there for 2 hours and knew had we waited for him any longer it could push 3 hours. Normally for service this bad I'd have taken off 2 stars but since it was our first time there I'll hope it was an off night. Service was really the only negative of the night. read more

We went here for Mother's Day and had an 3:30 pm appointment but got there at 2:45pm. The hostess told Bob about us being early and he seated us within less the. 10 minutes. The food was ABSOLUTELY delicious and such a warm and friendly atmosphere. Will definitely be going back. read more

I've eaten at Bugeye Grill a few times now - it's my Dad's favorite place on Solomon's. The view of the water along with a great people watching spot is perfect (we always eat outside). Bonus is that pets are allowed when eating outside so we can bring our pup along. The Crab Cakes are good, the fries are always awesome (steak fries), the Maple Walnut Salmon is great, the Seared Tuna Carpaccio is good. The service is always excellent as well. read more

Got to Bug Eye grill this afternoon. Requested to seat in the sun room area. Beautiful view! My bestie and I, Our waitress was Crystal. May I first say before anything else about this establishment is you must ask for her! She was so very knowledgeable about the menu and choices! She works Wednesday, Friday and Saturday! She was attentive to our needs, friendly, sweet, and just wonderful! First, the drinks blueberry watermelon margaritas were wonderful, we loved them. Very light! Appetizer was the Marinated flank steak (recommended by Crystal) was very good, the flavors of each item together in the marinate was so very tasty, our compliments to the chef! Next was the main course, I got the Lobster Risotto very tasty! Would recommend, rich, couldn't eat it all. My friend got the Rockfish topped with crabmeat which she enjoyed. For dessert she had raspberry cheese cake and I had the smith island cake. Both delicious. Also both had the espresso Martini (dessert one, can't remember what it was called). We stopped here after a long ride and we are so glad we did! The service was great. They were attentive and friendly. We ordered the Garlic Mussels as an appetizer and it came with two pieces of delicious French bread! The sauce on the mussels was exactly what I was looking for. For our main meals, I got the burger and my husband got the rockfish sandwich. Both were soooo good! The bacon on the burger was cooked to perfection. The fish was perfectly golden. We also got a side of steak fries and the pasta salad. The fries were perfectly crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The pasta salad also did not disappoint. My husband and I had a wonderful experience at Bugeye last night. We wandered in around 7pm and were greeted by Bob, who gave us the option of indoor or outdoor dining. We opted to dine outside and face the bay. He made us feel very welcome and we chatted about Covid and children (we are expecting #2 and were in the area on our babymoon). Our server Anna was friendly and helped us craft a mocktail that wasn't just a Shirley Temple (strawberry pina colada!). We started with the smoked salmon appetizer and a dozen steamed clams, which were so fresh you could still taste the seawater. Bob confirmed these were caught locally. We then got the seared tuna and rockfish entrees, both of which were delightful. I asked for the sirloin steak medium well, came with mashed potatoes, and carrots. I got a well, well done steak. Mashed potatoes and carrots were really good. Sirloin was the worst part of the meal. We have been to the Bugeye Grill several times since opening. The atmosphere is very nice and they do a good job of spacing people out for COVID. There is ample outdoor seating. The upper deck is nice for its view and the breeze. Our favorites there are the Mussels and garlic appetizer - ample servings and very tasty. We also like the Walnut salmon. Generous filets and good flavor. We have also had the burgers - which are huge and flavorful. Service is professional and courteous, but can be a little spotty. This was our first time to Bugeye Grill, we had a party of 7. We had made reservations ahead and they had a table for us in the front facing the water. The ambience was incredible, loved the dim lighting and decor, very classy. The bar area was beautifully lit up and the drinks were amazing. I had a spicy prickly pear margarita that was delicious and very pretty! The bartender was super friendly. My husband liked the beer selection as well. Once our party arrived we were seated and ordered appetizers for the table. We ordered the lobster risotto, crab spring rolls and the flatbread, all were superb! They also bring out complimentary marinated olives and pearl onions in cute little jars that is a nice touch. Our server was great, very friendly and knowledgeable and was always around to help out with whatever we needed. Our entree's were delicious! The food is to die for!! Everyone kept going on and on about how good everything was. I ordered the filet with garlic mashed potatoes and veggies. My steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The potatoes were delicious. My husband ordered the prime rib with steak fries, he said it was awesome and loved it. After dinner, our party kept saying how nice of an experience it was and how much we all wanted to come back here! Towards the end of our meal, the manager came over and thanked us for coming and asked how everything was. We will definitely be putting this place on our date night rotation! Great location but very poorly ran. You can go here almost 365 days a year and the menu will be the same. No specials, no menu changes or updates and nothing new, ever. If you want a steak or pork chop, a pasta dish or mussels, this is your place, but if you want anything else, don't waste your time. The hours are terrible too. In Solomons, there's nearly always a concert going on. The management never opens before 5pm to feed everyone. For us, we might stop by if they were open but they aren't. Instead, we almost always go to the crowded restaurants around Bugeye. I suppose that Bugeye makes enough money that they aren't interested in making more I'm shocked that Bugeye hasn't closed yet. read more

The food is very good here and I recommend it. However, I was was quite shocked when I tried to order a different side than was listed. It's a standard side with other entrees. I was told the chef was very particular about what sides he paired with the meat. I asked to have the change and was denied twice. I think the customer should get what they want. After all, the customer is paying for the meal and has to eat it. Not having the choice is ridiculous. I hope the chef grows up soon for the sake of the success of this restaurant. read more

The appetizer with the steak and fried oysters with bernaise sauce is amazing! We had it on our previous visit along with excellent lobster tail. But unfortunately that's where our enjoyment ended. The lobster pasta wasn't nearly as flavorful as the bernaise in the appetizer. My hubby regretted ordering it. We returned last night for New Year 's Eve. The oysters Rockefeller appetizer was rather plain tasting, not as good as it could have been. The flavor was a little flat. The steak entry special for two was not as good as we hoped as well. The wait staff made sure to tell us that it would be medium rare, which is our preference in steak doneness. But my first bite was severely over done. Plus all the veggies were woefully under seasoned. My hubby was pretty annoyed at how bland they were. Such a missed opportunity. The carrot Smith Island cake wasn't very good either. Plus the chef wouldn't allow any substitutions or add ons last night. For meals over $100, that is a bit off putting. All in all, the one appetizer, the steak and the actual lobster are fantastic.
