Xôi khúc / sticky rice ball. the mung bean pork flavor center. It's gooooood
    Johnny N.

One of Portlands beloved eateries serving up freshly made tofu, egg rolls, soy milk and other Vietnamese bites. It's a far trek to this location for me so it's a special occasion when I stop by I make sure to buy a Costco portion of items. Fried tofu with onions and vermicelli. Much different than what you'll find at Uwajimaya or other stores carrying Bui tofu. This is a special fried tofu and can be eaten plain, stir fried, in soup or with your favorite sauce (maybe shoyu, soba sauce or nuoc mam?? *dipping sauce for almost everything Egg rolls are delicious too. Bite sized with a perfect crunch. Didn't order this time but they're worth trying The banh beo rice cakes? Mung bean, fried shallot, dried shredded shrimp and the Bui special fish sauce. Could eat like 10 trays of this stuff. It's so good and the perfect item to share or bring to a potluck. The sticky rice balls with green center (Xôi khúc) is a flavor bomb. Double mochi chewy glutinous rice with a pork flavor mung bean center. It's deceptively simple and deserves a James Beard Award . I mean this mom n pop shop has been holding it down for years so why not. All the items are painstakingly made to perfection. There's no other Portland shop that does tofu like this. (No offense Ota but Bui Tofu just hits different) Waiting for their new Hillsboro location rumored to open up soon (by end of year) so I can gorge myself on more tofu and rice combination goodness. If it's your first time visiting try everything! Great service and can get busy on weekends.

This establishment sells snacks and breads and many different items. They had my favorite sesame balls. Tofu pudding and green cake. Mostly Vietnamese items. They sell a variety of drinks from water to milk to milk tea. Quite fun to go and check it out if you are in the neighborhood. Lots of items cooked or made in house. I was there at 9:45 and there were already quite a few people picking up stuff for the day.

I only recently learned of this place, and I will be sure to come back and try more. Since I'm not too familiar with all the variations of their products, I reviewed the menu on their website first and wrote down what I wanted to try. Very nice customer service and a quick checkout. There is an ample parking lot on the corner right next to the shop. I enjoyed everything I bought (in the photo), and it's very affordable.

By now, everyone knows Bui Natural Tofu is a gem in Portland, offering an amazing selection of Vietnamese dishes. My favorite? Bánh bèo--a childhood favorite of mine, and they do it right. The delicate steamed rice cakes, savory toppings, and perfect balance of flavors take me straight back to my roots. Whether you're here for their fresh tofu, crispy snacks, or traditional dishes, Bui never disappoints. A must-visit for authentic Vietnamese flavors!

It's kind of beautiful to see a whole bunch of families in the community pull up and grab tofu products on a weekend morning. I've never seen a tofu shop like this anywhere else. They're more than just tofu. They have a bunch of cooked food items and desserts that you can grab and eat immediately. My favorite was the chicken sticky rice and the pork tofu (which was good on its own but also would be great if you put that in your hot pot with some sauce). If I lived in Portland, I would be coming here every other weekend.

so, so , so yummy and fire, i tried it for the first time today, i got the salad tofu rolls, small tofu bites, lemongrass tofu, and fresh sweet soy milk. everything tasted absolutely amazing. it fed me all day and i still have leftovers for $16. it is so affordable and im so excited to go back and try more of their vegan options. the service was quick and i was inside and out very quickly, thank you!!

You're telling me I can get DELICIOUS FRESH TOFU?? WHENEVER I WANT?? 10/10 I tried Bui tofu for the first time at the PSU farmers market, where Roam uses Bui tofu in their tofu roti wrap. I knew immediately I needed to stop by Bui and stock up for home cooking. This counter shop is absolutely no frills, which indicated to me that I was in good hands. They have a range of grab and go dishes including summer rolls, rice noodle dishes, a variety of desserts and much more which all looked delicious. Most importantly, however, they literally sell their tofu by the bag...like the grocery bag. Being just one person I just picked up a tray of their "small" fried onion tofu (only small in that it's cut into smaller slices so more surface area for fried deliciousness vs the large which seems to be three larger pieces) and a plain firm tofu so I could try out the OGs. I ended up cooking these into a delicious khao soi curry at home but not without snacking on a few sticks straight up...yes it was that good. They've made a loyal repeat customer out of me for sure.

We shared the cream cheese wontons, coconut curry with chicken spice level 2(which comes with rice), and the luc lac. Everything was deliciousss! The chicken in the curry broke apart so easily and the curry itself was very flavorful. Spice level 2 was perfect for a little kick, but not too much. The meat on the luc lac has a nice char on it and a sauce that is almost sweet. Service is quick and the vibe inside is very trendy with colorful decor and lights. Great for a night out. Previous visits have sometimes left us confused as if we ordered something different than a usual so i would say it is not too consistent but great if you catch it on a good day.

I was very disappointed and the Vietnamese iced coffee being told that's just how it comes and talked down to like I was dumb. I've had iced coffee, several Vietnamese places and this is the first time it's been about a tablespoon or two of liquid and almost all ice. See photo of finished beverage. For $6.50 this was massively overpriced. The ambiance is super cool which is why I think this place is rated so high. It is fun with all the decoration but not worth it for the food.

There's lots of seating and we came at a Thursday for lunch and it wasn't too packed. We called earlier and they got reservations available to be made. The pho was perfect for the chilly weather. The broth was strong and flavorful, and the chicken was cooked well. My friend got the noodles with crispy chicken and mushrooms, and those were phenomenal. The Vietnamese platter would honestly make a perfect date-night meal. This has great variety and fun to share. The fries and wings were flavorful appetizers and a great way to start the meal. Service was great overall, but a bit hands-off after the food was served. I don't remember anyone checking back in on us. Nothing was wrong with the food, but it would've been nice to have that quick follow-up. Would definitely come back, especially to check out their brunch next time.

Downtown Portland's hidden gem for authentic Vietnamese!…read more I was walking around downtown Portland and stumbled upon Cuốn Vietnamese Street Food, and honestly, it was the best meal of my week . If you are looking for fresh, flavorful, and satisfying comfort food, do not walk--run to this spot. To get the full experience, we ordered a variety, and every single item was a hit. We started with the Beef Pho, and the broth was the absolute star. It was rich, aromatic, and deeply savory, clearly simmered for hours. It was the perfect dish on a sunny Portland day. We also grabbed a Chicken Banh Mi. The bread had that perfect crispy crust with a soft, airy crumb, and the chicken was grilled to perfection with fresh veggies and herbs. Of course, we had to wash it all down with a creamy, sweet Thai Tea--it was delicious and the perfect end to the meal. Beyond the food, the vibe is great. It's a super clean, casual spot with big windows letting in lots of natural light. It's set up for quick counter service, which makes it perfect for a fast lunch downtown, but the staff is so friendly and welcoming that you feel right at home. It's a family-run business, and you can taste the passion in the food. Highlights: · The Pho Broth: Seriously some of the best in the city. · The Banh Mi: Fresh bread, great fillings. · The Service: Fast, efficient, and incredibly kind. Pro Tip: Don't forget to grab your own utensils and sauces (the chili crisp is a must for the pho), and help yourself to the free self-serve hot tea. It's the little touches like that which make this place a winner. I am already planning my next trip back to try the Crispy Pork Belly. Highly recommend

Positives: fresh, well made, very flavorful proteins. Cons:…read morePrice I tried Cuon for the first time and enjoyed it. I went for a Vermicelli bowl where you get to pick 2 proteins. I selected Pork Belly (their specialty) and lemongrass chicken. The bowl itself is standard Vietnamese fare, nothing special, creative or exciting in that sense. That said, the ingredients tasted fresh and the proteins were very well seasoned and cooked. The pork belly skin had an awesome crunch and you can clearly taste the lemongrass in the chicken. The included spring roll had nice crunch but little flavor. Unfortunately, outside of Pho, Banh Mi and Noodle Bowls, there's sadly not much else to the menu. No Vietnamese salads, stir frys, etc. Either way, what they do make, they seem to make quite well. So, on to my main issue ie, that for a place thats only open for lunch, the prices are a bit too high. I noted about $16 for a Banh Mi sandwich, no sides. Pho was around $20 and my noodle bowl was about $20 as well. Weirdly, its about the same prices as eating lunch back home in Miami, a FAR more expensive city in general. In fact, I've often had more exciting Vietnamese in Manhattan for lower prices. So while its easy to recommend Cuon on quality, its not a top recommendation for lunch value in the PDX which is why Im docking 1 star.
