I had just moved to Portland 3 weeks ago from Puyallup, Washington and based on the high versatility of culture around the area, I was on the hunt for Com Tam. We were brought here based on my MIL suggestion and let me tell you! The food was amazing! The environment was great and clean. The bathroom was also clean as well! My fiancé had ordered Pho and I had ordered number 41, the broken rice dish. 10/10! We also order a side of egg rolls and they were crispy and flagrant and very well seasoned! The pork chop that came with my dish was tender, I was able to cut it with my spoon and the shrimp wrapped in tofu and fried was probably my favorite! The dish also comes with shrimp as well that was delicious all by itself. We had also ordered the Vietnamese Coffee- boy did that have my heart racing, but oh tasted sooooo good! It's difficult for me to declare any one Vietnamese restaurant is my favorite because there are so many great places in Portland, however, Pho Hung is definitely at the top of my list. This place has been my go-to with out-of-town guests and family celebrations for years... so hopefully that gives you an idea of how consistently wonderful Pho Hung has been in my life. The Powell Blvd location was recently renovated, so the dining room is warm and inviting. There are a fair number of seats to choose from, so lunch hour usually doesn't require any kind of wait for a seat. The staff are quick and courteous, and food is always delivered to the table in just a few minutes. I'm always impressed with their service. Powell Blvd is a really busy street, so please be careful when entering and exiting the parking lot. Visibility is limited when exiting west from the parking lot. read more

We were greeted and seated as soon as we entered the restaurant and the smell as soon as we walked in was insane! Once I opened the doors, we were helped to a table and provided waters and menus immediately. The table already comes with all the condiments you need to hoisin sauce, sriracha, pepper, fish sauce, as well as utensils such as the spoon and chopsticks. Also, this place makes their own chili oil... and it is out of this world. It is very flavorful and not too spicy, I put it on everything. I even dipped my bean sprouts in it when I was waiting for my pho. Anyways , I ordered #17 which is pho with rare stake and got the #24 which is their salad roll, it comes with shrimp and pork but I just got shrimp only. Peanut sauce was perfect, and I love how they put chopped peanuts on top. The pho broth was super hot, plenty of greens, and meat as well. As Phở aficionados, my wife and I are constantly on the lookout for the most excellent Phở we can find, no matter where it is we go! Portland is no different. From coast to coast, we've come to discover both the complications and simplicities of Phở in its many iterations. That is that there are as many (if not more) than 18 preparations or style possibilities of this most famous and desirous soup dishes from Vietnam! Just as there are types of Phở so are there derivations of the dish (or bowl) across Vietnam - especially North and South Vietnam. We tend to favor the Southern style most, Phở Nam with its emphasis on cloves, cardamom and it generous infusion of fish sauce making it rich and bold, compared to others - not to mention the richness of the rice noodles. Using such guidelines is how we pretty much determine our likes and dislikes of Phở in general, but more specific, we also take everything a Phở resto has to offer. From the quality of meats and vegies to the freshness and layout of the required condiments, the location's quality, cleanliness as well as their hospitality infer considerably on our decisions. But when it comes down to basics, taste is what matters. Although many times hard to determine (unless you have super taste buds) where the seasonings and broth preparations are logistically compared to or derived from - the overall taste is the satisfaction one receives. I have been going to this restaurant since I was 3 years old and my grandpa has been going for decades. The pho is unmatched, every single time we go it's consistent and tastes amazing.The rice dishes are always good as well, meat is cooked to a T. Food is always hot and FRESH. The workers are kind, quick, and efficient. I've never had bad customer service here, nor have I ever had to wait for a table. (Food comes out in 10 minutes or less.) Grass fed beef bones used to make the best broth in Portland with Grassfed Beef toppings of course. For health conscious Portlanders, why go anywhere else! This Pho Hung location is highly recommended by my Vietnamese dentist and my Japanese chiropractor, both who are Asian foodies. Bread was perfectly toasted, crunchy on the inside and sooooo fluffy and soft on the inside. You know the bread is crisped when you have cuts on the top of your mouth by the time you're done LOL. The soup was flavorful, and they give a super large chunk of meat. I would take a bite of the beef, put the piece down, drink some soup, go to pick up the beef again, but I'd always end up picking up a new piece of beef lol. I visited Pho Hung with my mom while we were visiting from LA. The food itself was good, and I initially left with a positive impression. After paying at the counter, I left a tip on my card and then returned to the table to leave an additional cash tip. As my mom and I were walking to our car, the female employee who had been tending to our table ran outside and asked if we had paid. We told her yes. Moments later, the second female employee the one who had just charged me also came outside and questioned us again, only to realize she may have charged the wrong table after I told her I had just paid her. Although this was clearly a staff error, I was stopped twice and made to feel as though I hadn't paid. I then had to return inside in front of other customers, which was uncomfortable and unnecessary especially since everyone was looking by the scene the two female workers created. When I went back in, the employee who had been tending to us was no longer present, and the employee who charged me was left to handle the situation on her own. I advised her to charge me the difference in which she said she didn't know how and said she needed to refund me and charge me again entirely. During this process, a male employee stood closely over the interaction, which added to the discomfort rather than helping resolve it. In the end, I paid the correct amount, but the experience shifted from positive to disappointing very quickly. I also asked for the tip I had left back and did not feel comfortable leaving another, which says a lot given how the visit started. Being questioned multiple times, brought back inside, and made to feel at fault despite having already paid left a lasting impression. Because of this experience, I would not recommend this location. Situations involving payment should be handled with accuracy and discretion, and the lack of both here reflects poorly on the overall level of service. read more
