Updated review: Came to Build-A-Bear on the evening of Thursday, October 17 before closing to get Chococat since their instagram reel brought me here. Upon entering, the employees greeted me and they were all so accomodating. They also wanted to be sure about anything else my furry friend needs. Very friendly staff compared to my past visit, and in this location I re-visited, they were all surprised that I'm a Hello Kitty/Sanrio fan and that I've been collecting a lot of Sanrio related furry friends for so long. I was lucky that they have the last Chococat plush in-stock because the other orders I witnessed I'm assuming are from those who ordered online. I'm lucky that I was the last customer to finish my furry friend on time, before closing. He's super cute and he's a part of my collection now! We came in to fix a stuffy we ordered online that was not properly stuffed. The staff made it such a fun experience. We've been here multiple times for birthdays and holidays and my kids love it. Came in to stuff a birthday bear for our sons first bday. The cashier was rude in answering my question stating to ask the other employees when they're the ones who directed me to her. I was waiting my turn in line to ask a question it's not like I went up to the register while she helped a guest out. Ive been spending hundreds at build a bear since our oldest is 16years old now and this type of employee really ruins the experience. I'm extremely disappointed since she first appeared to be kind, people plan to visit these places for the experience, thanks to her we walked out without a bear In hopes to come back when shes not there. I've visited earlier this week and purchased some small Halloween plushies and the employees were so kind and helpful. Came in today because I saw that they had the Wooper pokemon in stock. Jessie helped us with the stuffing, heart, and sewing portion of the experience and they were WONDERFUL. It was pretty busy considering it was a Sunday, but they took the time to make sure that it was filled as much as I wanted. And even took the extra time to make sure that the stitching wasn't messed up and bumpy when they were closing him up. The service was amazing! Oh my goodness, I am amazed by the interactive experience they have here at Build-A-Bear, I would give 10 stars if I could! I just came for the first time and it was so fun! This store is truly for all ages, from 3 to 100. First you start out by picking the animal to stuff- they have so many options! Then a staff member fills the animal while you yourself pump the stuffing. Next, you can put an audio message in it's paw and a beating heart. After that, you go name the animal and they have many options for accessories. You get this whole experience for a great price! Lots of fun, but BEARware of hidden costs. A lot of people get upset with the final cost of the bear/stuffed animal because they don't understand the way it works. You pay for every part of the build. So if you got a skin and stuffed it and walked out with JUST that, you could pay as little as 9.99 - However, what kid is not going to want the beating heart or the scent or the hair bow, the outfit and the shoes? The total will be closer to 50.00 quite quickly if you get all the goodies. So just know what you are getting into. That being said, the experience was fun for the kids - the stuffer was very good, she had them follow a process for adding the hearts inside the toys - kissing the heart, dancing etc.. it made the experience more fun. read more

I have been a Loyal customer to Build A Bear for more than 6 years, specifically to this location. But everything change on Saturday July 6 2024. I went to the store with my 2 children and was harassed by the Assistant Manager Maddie and 3 of the sales associates. I never thought i would experience such a horrible moment in this place where they have always been so kind to us. I came in to process an Exchange because the bear we had just purchased 2 days prior had a hole and they wanted to just stitch it up for me, but i requested to get a new one because i was afraid that it would open up again. The Assistant manager gave me a really hard time, because she kept getting interrupted by her associates since she was in the back on break. When she finally came out she had a really nasty attitude, was rolling her eyes and said i could swap the bear with all the accessories inside but made a big deal when i wanted to change the voice recording. She finally agree to exchange the recording after i told her i wanted a refund of the entire bear.. she said "i will allow you to exchange the recording because i am not trying to do all that with the refund on the system" rolled her eyes and walked away. Not to mention that she never even asked for my receipt to at least process on the system. She allowed the associate to finish up thew bear and as I'm walking out she changed her mind about the exchange and said the bear had a stain, when the bear did not have a stain or anything wrong other than the hole, they inspected the bear when i first got there to see the hole and it did not have any stains, after they stitched it up they started spraying something to the bear that created that stain and was super noticeable because the bear is white, and they try to blame me and say i brought it dirty. I told her to check cameras and ask to speak to upper management because i was not going to argue with her because i knew that she was already upset with me because she kept getting interrupted during her break and i was trying to change the recording.. i was denied the manager info, i told her i was not going to take the bear back because that is not how i brought it. When i walked out she had 3 of her associates follow me a few stores down. She scared my children and made my 4 year old cry. I told them to leave me alone because they were scaring my children and they said i had to go back tot he store, i then spoke to security and explained everything that happened. He was really nice and apologized for the experience. I will never come back to this place. read more

This location is the best! The people are friendly and informative. The store is always clean. They always treat my child as a special customer. COVID: they wipe down the counters and pin pads after every costumer, even when they are busy. They maintain the 6ft distancing and are always wearing masks. My only complaint is the price point every tiny little.thing cost and it doesn't cost just a dollar or two for the tiny things, most cost 8 and above. I was here with my husband BOB D to make an adorable and unforgettable bear for Charlie and Tobey when the most ultimate disrespect occurred. Everything was going fine when the dreadful employee grabbed the bear and stuffed it with so much aggression that my children feared for their lives! She then filled it up until it exploded before our eyes! I washed cotton out of my childrens hair for days! When I said, that is not nice young lady, she began crying and spit in the cotton! I am disgusted that she is still employed by this establishment. They really will hire anyone. At the time they had a lot of everything that was available, so I managed to get the plushie that I was requested to purchase. We waited about 35 minutes to enter since there's an 18 person limit but I didn't mind. It almost made it more pleasant and organized than pre-covid. The staff at this location needs better training (not all but some). Product knowledge is low, the stuffers seem to need practice on the machine, where and how to place stuffing, my bear was ripped in the stuffing process. Staff does not sew well, if you go in with a pre-built bear to add a sound just rememeber the staff has to restitch it by hand. Still with that said, I gave them 4 out of 5 stars because while this location has some problems - it is a fairly new location (maybe open for about two weeks). I'm assuming some employees are new hires and still getting familiar with everything. The staff at this location are all super friendly and helpful, they seem to love being there and even though there was some issues they take care of the customers. read more

We went in on a weeknight right before Halloween to get the Pumpkin Bear with the light up face. The entire experience was very pleasant and our little guy loved how animated the staff was. I think he actually left with a crush on the sales clerk because she was so sweet and interactive. Brea Mall is our local build a bear store, so we go there frequently for my daughter's build a bear animals and characters. So in August we went to this store for the birthday bear. We were told they didn't have any. My daughter had to get something else. Today we are in the store for a Dr. Seuss, Mr. Grinch build a bear. Guess what? No Dr. Seuss build a bears available. What do you have at this store? Oh we have one more Dr. Seuss on my back already stuff sorry no discount for it being the last one and it's already stuff. Thanks, but no Thanks my daughter wants the fun of building her bear. Customer service was horrible walking in the employees stood around chatting it up until my daughter interrupted their chat and asked for help. The purchase ended with mediocre customer service with the cashier only because she knew we were pissed off about them not having a bear, again. She thought by having another employee, who may have been the assistant manager there, to see the purchase through, would help if I asked again or commented about the lack of build a bear.
