We will come back for the outfit which she needed. It costs around $42.00 for everything. My daughter was happy with what she got. They have a special. If you pay $5, you get a $10 gift card. Pay your age promotion was a fail on behalf of Build-a-Bear but being a Build-a-Bear Bonus Club Member, you were able to print or screenshot the $15 voucher toward a make your own furry friend for the inconvenience. Note: I did not take part in the standing in line on the day of that promotion! My fiancé and I went about a week and half later to get my my niece and nephew each a furry friend. We visited Build-a-Bear on a weekday in the afternoon. The line was just within the store, about 25-30 minute wait from standing in line, stuffing, making a birth certificate and paying. There was 3 stuff stations, and 1 cashier working at the time I visited. Due to the *new* promotion, MANY STUFF ANIMALS are out of stock. I did go in wanting different bear / color than what I got but that's fine. Also, the typical cardboard box the bears would normally come in was also out of stock so we got paper bags instead. Also, Build-a-Bear did increase the prices on the basic bears from $15 to $16.50. Summary: Melody, who seemed like the lead associate, was rude and blatantly did not want to help my daughter and I. Due to her a attitude and lack of customer service I will not shop at build a bear in fashion valley again. Long version: My daughter went here for a bday party. We were assisted by Ms. Alex who was great with all the kids. She was patient, kind, and very attentive to all the kids in the party. I would have left a 5 star review if it wasn't for Melody, who I assume was the person in charge as she was barking orders to the other associates. My interaction with her began with me and the parent of the bday celebrant at the register. The parent was in the process of paying for the bday party. My daughter decided to purchase shoes for her bear, which wasn't part of the party package, so I wanted to ask if I could get rang up for the shoes after she was done. As I began to ask, she cut me off and asked me if I was paying for the bday party. I said no, and was about to mention that I was part of it, but she cut me off again and told me to get in the back of the regular line. Which had 7 other people waiting in it already. Seeing she must have been stressing about the amount of people waiting already, I just went to the back of the regular line. My cousin, the parent of the bday celebrant, was finished paying and she asked Melody if I can just pay for the shoes through her since I was part of the bday party. She hesitantly said yes and rang me up with a stuck up attitude. No customer service, no interaction at all. She did not say one word to me as I finished my transaction and walked out the door. You would think, after the lack of customer service I wouldn't be back. But my daughter had a gift card and since it was her bday month she had the opportunity to get a bday build a bear. So after lunch my daughter and I went back. Waited in the long line like every one else. I made eye contact with melody and throughout my whole time there (1 hour) made it obvious to not assist us in anyway. Luckily a gentleman there, I believe his name was Trevor, helped us and gave us the customer service we normally see when we go to a build a bear. As I was about to pay, melody and Trevor are talking to each other at the register. Trevor acknowledges me but melody doesn't even make eye contact. Trevor asks melody if she was helping me already and she responds with a stern, No, you help them. Every single interaction I've had at a build a bear has always been an above and beyond experience. Unfortunately melody is the exception to the rule. read more

What's more adorable than an expensive bear with a heart? How about an expensive pony with a heart?! BE CAREFUL which animal you let your child choose, because the different stuffed animals start at different prices! Everything you choose for your child's stuffed animal adds to the price. I paid around $50 for my granddaughter's stuffed pony without any sound, and with the following items added: a strawberry scent, 1 pair of pony pants with a ruffle, and a package of pony hair extensions. We skipped the shoes because it would have cost $18 more to fit the pony's 4 feet into shoes. Expect to spend $50 or more for 1 stuffed animal with all the trimmings at this store. I took my granddaughter to get her first Build-A-Bear stuffed toy to this Fashion Valley store, and she was thrilled! Since it was her first visit, she wasn't too demanding. It helps if you let your child know what to expect. The staff are good with kids, and they make it fun. Try to go when it's not too crowded. The one thing I hate about Build-A-Bear is that when they have a children's bday party, they always have the children leave shouting, "Take Me Home! Take Me Home!" It's super annoying, and not cute at all. They sound like demented robot children. 0-: My granddaughter wasn't there with a party. We came on our own. It was a fun experience, and I don't mean to sound negative, just realistic. For $50 we had a few minutes of fun. So for Valentines day I decided to come in to Build-A-Bear to have a special teddy bear made for my girlfriend and ended up having a great experience. The girl that helped me customize my bear was awesome! Even though the process was kind of embarrassing she didn't make things awkward even when my custom voice addition to the bear kept going off as she was shoving it into the bear! The pay-your-age event was ridiculously unorganized and disappointing. Arrived at 9am (1 hour before the store opens) and the line was already about 1000 people long. Decided to wait it out because my kids were SO excited to make a stuffed animal. I was excited too as I'm a single mom and normally cannot afford a regular priced item here. Someone came by and cut off the line a little behind us when I asked him what was going on, he assured me that we would either be able to make a bear, or we would receive a "voucher". I asked my kids what they wanted to do and of course they wanted to wait despite the heat and huge line. As we are waiting in line I see a BAB employee handing out the vouchers to random people who aren't even in line. I'm trying to yell to him to ask him for one so I can get the fuck out of there and he says he will get more and come back. We keep waiting, I see him walk by again and I yell to him, he looks at me and keeps walking. At this point we have been in line in the heat for an hour and a half. I couldn't turn back now, I had invested too much time. I have to ask the people behind me to save my spot so I can go ask what the fuck is going on. I walk over to BAB and ask an employee at the door when those of us in line will get our vouchers, she informs me that there is a SEPARATE LINE for the vouchers. None of us waiting were informed of this, most of us just wanted to get a voucher and leave so we have been standing there waiting and nobody told us there was a different line. Why wouldn't they go through the line of those of us waiting and hand out the vouchers before starting a new line??? So stupid. I walk over to the voucher line and this line is, not even joking, about 500 people long. You would think that this line would go quick because handing someone a piece of paper takes like less than a second. Nope. They had ONE person handing out the vouchers to all these hundreds of people and of course each person had to ask a million questions so the line was basically not moving at all. So I said fuck all that, this is the most unorganized mess I've ever seen. I'm hot, I'm sweaty, and I'm over this shit. I had to take my kids to the Disney store to avoid a meltdown. The lack or organization and planning was just baffling to me. How are you going to advertise an event like this and be completely unprepared? OH YEAH, then they end up sending the voucher out through email to EVERYONE who signed up for the bonus club, so basically those of us who showed up and stood in line got the same bullshit everyone got, even the people who didn't even go!!! What the fuck!? Why didn't you just do that in the first place? I thought I would give BAB a chance to respond to my emails before yelping, but I've sent several emails, and they just reply with the same "due to the high volume of emails, we cannot respond right now." I decided to check this place out while strolling through Fashion Valley Mall. Since Build A Bear Workshop stores usually have rotating and sometimes limited editions of animals you can choose from, I wanted to see what some of their current choices were. They had the standard dogs, cats, bunnies, turtles, elephants, turtles, cheetahs, and other well known animals. I think I almost teared a little when I saw that lo and behold, they have a selection of DINOSAURS now! Argentinosaurus, Velociraptor, Parasaurolophus, Apatosaurus, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus, Ankylosaurus, and Pteranodon. I quickly chose a Triceratops, since that's my favorite dinosaur. But then decided the Ankylosaurus was too cute too pass up, so I got that one too. While I was getting both of them stuffed and deciding on what special dino outfits and accessories to give them, I was getting weird looks from parents seeing a grown woman smiling from ear to ear. But who cares? I got two new friends that day! I decided to name them Cera and Ank (you can figure out which belonged to which.) This is the only store in California and among a handful of others in the country where they have dinosaurs. They are also available on their website. Only recommendation when choosing any animal in the stores, carefully look over the one you are going to get before having it stuffed. I saw some with dried snot, dried ice cream (puke?), and other unknown crusties on some of the dinosaurs I was looking over. Bring your hand sanitizer! read more

I don't have kids, so I don't claim to know the hottest new toys or things for them to do. I do however have a beautiful 2 year old god daughter that I would do anything for and that I love to death. At this point in her little life, I wanted to do something for her for Christmas that we could do together, and that she would sort of treasure in her little short term memory. So I thought it would be great to make a teddy bear together at the Build A Bear Workshop in Fashion Valley. Great idea in theory, not as great in execution. So every bear in here is custom made. You walk in and start at the first station and then walk around from station to station making your bear. At the first station you choose your bear or animal shell. (the outside of the animal with nothing inside). Little Vendela went nuts here. I guess at 2, she would see one, then see another one that she liked more. In the end she decided on a pink bear, even though her step mother and I tried to convince her the pink bear wouldn't look as cute in clothes. She was set on the pink bear though. So we went on to the next station. Which was maybe 3 feet away. At this one we were supposed to pick a sound to put in the bear. This is where it got confusing. The sounds were demonstrated in a TV and then if you wanted that particular sound you got it out of a basket. If you wanted to record a custom sound you took the chip and there were instructions. It wasn't clear though how to record it. Meanwhile our 2 year old saw the outfits to the left of us and ran off, with her shell of a pink bear picking things out for her to wear. Once we sorted out how to record a greeting to little Vendela, we moved onto the next one, where we pick a heart (a little heart shaped patch pretty much) had the person at the station put it in the bear, and then with a foot operated control pedal, and the help of the staff member holding our bear for us, we filled up our bear with stuffing to be as full or not as we wanted it to be. This was also where the staff takes the sound chip and places it in the bear wherever we want to place it. This station scared Vendela and for a few minutes she just watched everyone else before putting her tiny little foot down on the pedal. In the end "Aunt D" had to help her. Once the bear was a full as she wanted it to be she grabbed it again and ran off. Next was the station where they take a brush and comb and fluff the bear. Vendela loved this part. But then she had a little accident here, as she got too excited and forgot to go potty. So there we were with a 2 year old and a puddle on the floor, but she wouldn't let go of her bear "Pink" and kept on brushing it while we had her father run down to the Gap to buy her diapers, undies and new jeans. After fluffing the bear, you can view the main part of the room where all the freakin clothes and accessories are. These people sure think of everything they can make money on! I won't list everything but I'll tell you what "Pink" got, a skirt, shirt and tennis shoes, with a matching purse and had and sunglasses, a New Year's Eve dress with fancy slippers, and purse, 2 piece pajamas with furry slippers, a bathing suit with sunglasses, flip flops, beach pail and cover up, a soccer out fit with ball and shoes, and a patent leather bag just because Vendela was worried "Pink" might need it. After that we had to go and name the bear at a computer so that when we paid, we would get a certificate with it's name and owner's name. Little Vendela already knew the name of her bear so making "Pink's" name official was easy but the computer of course asked so many questions about marketing us and if we wanted to get on email campaigns, I almost just didn't want to name the bear anymore! Then we took "Pink", her new wardrobe up to the cashier and paid for her, received her "condo" box to go home in, and her name certification. Vendela insisted on carrying her bear home all by herself in the new condo. Maybe it was my fault for bringing her at such a young age, to the place, but I felt like the stations were too close together in space in the room, and there wasn't enough staff to help answer questions. The only station with assigned staff was the one where they stuff the bear, and put the heart and sound chip in. Everything else was kind of figure it out on your own. Plus the clothing, which can send a child into a tizzy was next to the stations (great marketing) and got Vendela distracted at every step. The actual bear might have costed about $20 to make, but her outfits and accessories cost me another $100. Completely worth it for my only god daughter but not what I expected. I would bring her back again next year, as I would like to make this a yearly tradition with her until she gets tired of it........I hope next year she is more able to focus and not get as distracted as she did this time. The hugely helpful Juanita guided us from the moment we entered the workshop and throughout the creation process. She helped my niece pick out Sammie, a white pup named in memory of our recently departed pup. Sammie was brought to life with stuffing, a working heart and stitches. Juanita then helped her wash Sammie, pick out accessories, and register her. The lovely Dorothy at check out gave us a little cardboard crate for Sammie. What can I say build a bear your commercials got my daughter all giddy and she begs me to take her here every time they come on. Surprised her on Valentine's Day with a special trip here. The smiles and excitement on her little face are truly priceless. Lucky for us they were having a special on the bears and others plushes...2 for $35 pretty good deal in my book! Be careful though with extra add ons it can get really pricey. I let my daughter pick out one outfit for her pony priced at $14. You can easily walk out of here spending $100 if you're not too careful. Employees are very friendly and enthusiastic! The line to get your bear stuffed can get long so maybe coming during the week will make for a better experience. We all know small children hate waiting. Don't forget to go to the computers and print out a birth certificate for your bear! I love the cute boxes they give you to take your bear home. All in all great experience for kids ages 3-10! My Husband and I went to Build a Bear in the Fashion Valley mall this weekend to get our niece a toy. She picked out the animal that she wanted, a Frozen themed Elsa Teddy Bear, and we took it over to the employee to get stuffed. My Niece went through the whole routine, she gave the heart a kiss, got the stuffing, etc. It was very interactive and the employee did a great job until the very end, when she turned to my Niece and said "now don't forget to get the clothes"! Mind you the "clothes" are around $15 dollars each. She turned to an 7 year old, not the adult, and essentially told her to spend more in the store. While I don't mind buying the clothes for our Niece's doll (it's probably something we would have done anyways) I find it completely inappropriate and manipulative to suggest this to a child. We had a lovely time in the store up until this suggestion. If this is how Build a Bear makes their money, by forcing parents into buying expensive accessories, we won't be coming back. read more

You were supposed to get a free panda coin purse with a purchase of the panda bear.. they ran out when we got to the register.... Why didn't someone create this company sooner than they did! I love going to Build-A-Bear Workshops all over the country, but the location here in Fashion Valley is one of the best. I have almost every bear they have ever come out with since they open and I love coming in to stuff a new bear for a present for someone or stuff a new bear to keep for myself. They have the best and most friendly staff at this location that go above and beyond what they need to do to be a good employee, they are GREAT employees! I have come here on several occasions. I constantly get email updates, 5 to 10$ off purchases and discounts. I've gone to several locations and staff is friendly, but most importantly it's kid friendly and all about then and their interests.
