Watch out for the quality of the "cheaper " product. You really do "get what you pay for". Long term,they don't stand by what they sell. I bought a sink base. Within a year the cabinet doors and door fronts had all started to de-laminate from moisture. They will not do anything about it. Funny that they don't carry that product any more ... This place is damn near impossible to find, but well, well worth the effort. If you find yourself involved in any kind of home improvement project, you need to go here and see if they have what you need. My example: We needed to replace our front door. We looked at doors at Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. and the doors we liked were between $900-$1,200. Yikes! We went to Building Supplies Outlet and the same damn door that was $1,000 at Home Depot we bought for $320. Though we went there looking for a door, we looked around at the rest of the place, and they had toilets, bathroom vanities, kitchen cabinets, sinks, you name it, all at very reasonable prices. Every employee we dealt with was extremely helpful (the guy that helped up fin the door we bought must have spent at least 30-40 minutes with us), and all were very friendly. When we went the second time to pick up the door we bought, the guy that rang me up thanked me by name. A small gesture, to be sure; but a sincere gesture that contrasted very favorably against the programed/scripted "friendliness" that you're more likely to encounter at a big box store. But even if the employees were all rude jerks, it'd still be worth it going here for the prices alone. The fact that they are so friendly and helpful just seals the deal. read more

I would have never known about this place had it not been for my contractors. Definitely out of the way in the middle of a residential street just outside of Peabody Sq. - and you'd miss the sign for the place if you weren't looking for it. A must visit if you are remodeling your kitchen/bathroom. Lots of selection for vanities (especially if you like classic styles) and cheaper than home depot. I like super modern clean lines so there was only one style I really liked (tahoe), but we plan on buying it for our 2nd bathroom remodel - and they had the granite counter top for the vanity I like in stock. They do have a decent selection of lights/mirrors although I didn't find any in my style. I did however, find an awesome american standard faucet in a satin nickel finish for at least 30% less than they were selling them at home depot. We also got a soap dispenser for the kitchen sink here (they have sinks, faucets etc - you name it they have it). We did not need to replace windows or doors, but they had a ton it seemed in every shape and size possible. read more

I'll break this review into two parts. Standard materials and special orders. I've been a BSO customer for a few years. Bought all my doors and other materials. The quality is builder standard. Not high end but decent. Prices are good. I recently made a special order for a door. I told the rep exactly what I wanted and paid in full. After a week the order was ready for pick up. I measured the door and realized they messed up the dimension. I spoke to several workers including the owner but they wouldn't admit to the mistake and do the right thing. This blows me away considering losing future business will cost a lot more than a $370 door. Actually, I don't even care about the money. This is all about doing the right thing and making it right. Bottom line: BSO is great as long as you don't have issues that need to be resolved. It's all about the buck! read more

The best place for surprising prices on home improvement!

We renovated our main bathroom, and used Building Supply Outlet for many of our materials. Most importantly, we purchased our vanity here. The entrance to our bathroom is narrow, and they were the ONLY place that offered several different sized vanities in 21" AND 18" depths. We needed the 18", and I purchased and exchanged a few different times before we made our final pick. Each time, they had the vanity ready to go, assembled and everything. This place is great. It is definitely not easy to find, but that's part of the fun. We renovated our bathroom and got the tub, toilet, vanity, sink and granite top here. Name brand stuff for much less than you'd pay at Home Depot or Lowe's. You have to be a bit flexible as the stock is always changing and they may not have the specific color you want in something, but the money you'll save might be worth it. Our next project will be to replace the front and side doors and we will be going here to get the new doors. They have a variety of heavy-duty doors for about $200 less than what I've seen at Home Depot. They also have an extensive amount of inside doors available in a variety of styles which is great when you live in a really old house like we do! The people that work here are nice and helpful and seem to know the inventory pretty well, so if you don't see what you're looking for, just ask! read more

We came here at the recommendation of our contractor. We went through the entire process of ordering our cabinets and being charged and then a week later got a call saying unknown to them their supplier didn't carry half the items we ordered in the color we wanted. They were however willing to sell us a different brand at a discount, it would only cost us $2,000 more! We asked them to just give us the same brand in a different color but apply the discount and they said no. We told them to just cancel our order and give us our money back. I will never do business with them and would advise others not to either, they didn't care about us as customers. They did no research into the products they carry and pushed our renovation back a few weeks. read more

I went on a Saturday for the first time. I had ordered a vanity from Lowe's but the wrong item was delivered. I had been all over the place looking for a good quality piece that was in stock, since the contractor was starting the next Monday. They were so helpful and they had several items to chose from - my vanity needed to be narrow which made the search difficult. They had granite, faucets, everything that I needed. They put the vanity together, loaded it in my car and I was on my way. We're renovating 2 additional bathrooms in the house and I wouldn't go anyplace else. I have been to the store 3 times. I bought 2 exterior doors from them and am quite pleased with the product and their advice and service. The building is HUGE and packed with doors, windows and to see everything, on all the floors, you will need to spend much time. I purchased an exterior door several years ago and have not had any problems with it. I am not a contractor, but self built my present home in Danvers 33 years ago. A beautiful post and beam house. Prices for trim is a fraction of what you would pay just about anywhere else. Kitchen cabinets are very reasonably priced. I used Ikea cabinets before I found these. Custom size doors isn't a problem. Most can be ready in a week or less. If you want laminate counters for your cabinets, conveniently there's a fabricator located in the same building. I bought my bathroom vanity here for about 30% less than something comparable at Lowes or Home Depot. I had to build it myself but that was no problem. Great quality, real wood construction. ***be careful when you buy a custom made front door from this place,my $1600.00 door was sub standard,the top of the door sags so much at the top i can see outside.the wind comes thru 1 of the sidelights,i contacted the store,they said they have the builder of the doors contact me,but never did,all the owner of the company did was blame the installer,(who is one of the top finish carpenters in the area.)easy to do but not true, the door came pre-framed from the store defective. the store blew me off. read more

Went here at the recommendation of a coworker who does most of his own remodelling. Although our GPS got us there I was not sure I had the correct place because it seemed as if it were for contractors only - WRONG! All are welcome. We had been thinking about IKEA cabinets for our kitchen renovation but the whole IKEA process of selecting all the pieces etc. was overwhelming. Building Supply has some great RTA cabinets that look great once assembled! Bill who works the cabinet section in the back was wonderful. He spent a great deal of time explaining the differences between the pieces we were interested in and the look we were trying to achieve - though try to go during the week when it's less busy. This is a funky place. Wouldn't know it was there unless you looked for it. I ordered some custom double-pane windows for my shed project. The guy didn't seem to know how to use the custom window software very well - I had to help him out in a few places !! However the windows were the best price around that I could find after going to HD and Lowes and comparing prices. The windows were ordered and arrived the week after. Nice windows and perfect for the purpose I needed. I was a satisfied customer and I will go back there to order more windows in the future. Not sure about the cheap Asian-made tools they sell there though - even worse looking than Harbor Freight stuff. They should ditch that part and concentrate on the building supplies. read more

This place is awesome. Learned about it from a friend who is a contractor. Over the years we have bought windows, moulding, trim, doors (interior and exterior), and misc building supplies. All were at least 40% below what Home Depot / Lowes charges. They also do custom size doors for a very fair price. We did look for bathroom vanities - great prices - but none that fit my personal preference. Only one caution - with regards to wood for decking. Look carefully - many pieces are definitely NOT flat - and look like they may have been "weathered" for quite some time. Despite the great price on mahogany (50% off lumber yard), we ended up buying from elsewhere - since we couldn't find enough good pieces (searching through a MOUND of wood) for a medium sized deck. The stock constantly changes though - so we could have hit them at a bad spell for mahogany. Part of me doesn't want to place this review....and keep this place as a hidden gem. read more

I went to this place after going to Home Depot for a door that wasn't a standard size. The clerk at Home Depot actually referred me to them telling me if they don't have it, it doesn't exist. Anyway, worked with a man named Richie who was awesome. Although I had already purchased my sinks, granite, faucets and toilet, I found the same 48" blue pearl granite vanity top that came WITH a porcelain sink for $250.00 less than I paid, and I had to buy the sink on top of it. I had no problem finding the place at all, however, I did use my GPS. If I have anything at all to do in the future, I will go here first. A true find! read more

We bought an exterior door from here a year ago. Had a contractor install it and here we are a year later purchasing a brand new door because the door purchased from Peabody Building supply was letting rain leak in through the windows, down the door, and onto our floor and carpet. Part of the issue was the contractor himself, however it was clear there was an issue with the integrity of the door as well. We called the store and they claim to have no control over the fact that the door they sold us is now leaking. The prices are cheap because of the quality you receive. We were sent here by a contractor, so we didn't know any better. This place may be good for other items, such as bathroom vanities and such, but would not purchase another item from here that carries the potential of water leaking or anything of that nature. read more
