They sell nice things. If ANYTHING goes wrong with the nice thing you buy, don't expect them to answer the phone, return your call, answer the text they tell you to use. So, just go in. The person they recommend to fix yor nice thing (cause it's 6 mos past warranty) comes by, says they MIGHT be able to fix it, and then completely ghosts you as well. On a Tuesday morning, our 13 year old washing machine gave up the ghost after cleaning millions of loads for our 4 person house through toddlers to teenagers. On Wednesday we called up BID (because our last one was from there and it was trouble free and reliable) and asked what was available and recommended. We bought our new washer over the phone! It was delivered on Thursday by Cisco and MJ, who were delightful and efficient as they took our old one and installed a bright new shiny washer, which we were using within 30 minutes. I really wanted to support a local business rather than a chain like Best Buy, so I reached out to BID for pricing and availability of a high-end range, range hood and dish washer. I was told they would send pricing right away, but after a week of waiting I moved on and purchased the exact same unit from Best Buy. Best Buy immediately scheduled a delivery date with me. After 2 weeks, pricing came from BID and it was the same as Best Buy. They offered me a delivery date within 3 weeks. Still wanting to support local, I cancelled the Best Buy order and pre-paid BID for the entire purchase. 3 weeks came and went... no appliances. Then 4, then 6, now 10. Every time my contractor or myself calls for an update, they say "we'll check into that with the manufacturer and get right back to you." And they have not ever called us back. Not once. The staff here simply does not appear to care about their customers at all. I went out of my way to support a local business, and they have made me completely regret it. If they are having trouble with the manufacturer or whatever, that's one thing. To just ignore a customer who has pre-paid in full is completely unacceptable. read more

On the plus side, this store has great quality appliances and staff that know their merchandise and can make helpful recommendations. And their prices are competitive. On the minus side, I had a similar experience to several other reviewers regarding an attitude from the sales staff that was not welcoming. The first time I went there, if I hadn't been referred to them by our kitchen designer, I might have walked out. My biggest complaint is lack of follow-through. We purchased an entire suite of kitchen appliances. When the range hood was installed, it didn't work. I contacted the store and was told to bring it back, so our contractor took it down, boxed it up, and loaded it into my car. That was on a Tuesday in mid-December. I drove to the store and someone from the store took it out of my car. Thursday of that week we stopped by the store to find out when the replacement hood would be in. Alan told us he would order a new one, which means that for two days nothing had been done. He said it would be in the week after Christmas. When I called after Christmas, I was told that the manufacturer wants to repair it. So I drove back to the store and brought the range hood home again. Mind you, this hood is 36" wide so the box is enormous. A week or so later a part for the hood shows up at our door: the light bar. No idea why, because the light bar was working; it was something else that was defective. I contacted Alan to tell him this. Meanwhile, our contractor was on hold, unable to finish the kitchen, and unable to get paid. Communication about the manufacturer coming out to repair the hood continued to be very spotty. Finally the second week of January, after I had told Alan our contractor would be out and could reinstall the defective hood if the manufacturer would be there to do the repair, and he said no one would be coming, I had had enough. I returned the hood -- again -- and told him we want to new one. He said they wouldn't take the other one back. I replied that we had been waiting weeks for a resolution, had been getting the runaround from them, and that I would go to my credit card company to dispute the charge if necessary. I had no doubt that I would prevail. Finally a few days later, I got a call from Alan that a new range hood was in, and that it would be delivered to the Santa Cruz store from the Seaside warehouse the next day. I let my contractor know, and he scheduled his workers for the day after that. At 3:00 on the afternoon that the range hood was to arrive in the store, I called to inquire about it. Alan had failed to ensure it got on the truck. So at an inopportune time of the day, we made a mad dash to Seaside to pick up the hood. The hood is now installed, looks great, and works well, so that's the happy ending to the story. But we got a call a full week after the hood was installed from an appliance company wanting to schedule service for the hood. No one had ever told them, or the BID service manager, that the hood was being replaced instead of repaired. Just another example of the poor communication between BID and others, and within. I complained to Alan a couple times about the fact that because of their conflicting statements to us, we were going to have to pay our contractor to remove and reinstall the hood, plus the fact that the delay cost him money as well. In the end, they did agree to reimburse us the $300 additional labor cost. The bottom line for me is that this store has great quality appliances and knowledgeable sales staff, but some real problems communicating and following through. I hope we don't need to buy appliances again for a long time, but if we do, I'm not sure I would shop there again. read more

This place is a train wreck. Of course things are back ordered due to the pandemic but listen to how they handle it: We ordered a dishwasher on April 5 and were told it would be delivered on 4/20. No dishwasher, no call. When we called to ask for a status they said - ok it will be there 5/7. But by mid-June, still no dishwasher or call. So I followed up. The woman said she would check and call me back. No one called. A month later (in July) I called and was told "it takes 3 months." It had already been over 3 months. They said they'd check and call me back. Again no call. Just now I called again, since a 4th month has passed. The woman who answered was so irritated that I would bother her with a call. She spent several minutes complaining about how many calls they get from people checking on delivery status, telling me that I have no idea what she has to deal with, and asking if I could even imagine how awful it is. I said that's odd because I have never gotten a call from you guys, in 4 months. She proceeded to trash talk her coworkers, saying "that's because no one around here follows up when they say they will." Wow! Good to know! We really wanted to support a local business but honestly this woman was so annoyed at having to talk to customers I literally think they would rather you just not buy anything from them. I cancelled the order solely to avoid more phone calls with this place. Too bad because the man who sold us the dishwasher was literally one of the nicest guys I've ever met in my life, and I felt like we'd go back there for everything. read more

This establishment uses unlicensed installers who do not properly install gas stoves. My previous stove had an electrical connection. When the new stove was installed, the electrical plug was put in the above counter outlet allowing the unfinished wall to be visible behind the new stove. This is totally unacceptable. When I called BID to complain the person answering the phone said I needed to call an electrician. If the old stove was electrically connected behind the stove, why couldn't the new stove be electrically connected the same way The next day PG&E came to verify the safety of the installation. It was safe but looked bad. Also turns out there was an outlet behind the stove. Looks like the installer was too lazy to plug the stove into the appropriate outlet. Also th PG&E rep. said the installer should have replaced the gas flex line as they are more flexible when new. That would have allowed the stove to be flush with the wall. As I said, it looks bad and I still have to call someone to replace the flex line. A bad experience. read more

Picture your 10 year old fridge breaking and it's probably not worth fixing it. Now picture ordering a new one and being told it will be in next week. Okay, you can live out of a cooler for a week. Inconvenient but that's reasonable. Next week rolls around and it still isn't in. Just a few more days. Next week. Okay. A few more days pass. The day of the scheduled delivery, no one shows, no call, so you call and you are told two more weeks. That's what BID did. How's that acceptable or reasonable? How many times should a customer reasonably tolerate being strung along and for how long? Twice exceeded the tolerance level of the situation. The order was cancelled through the credit card dispute process, Home Depot was called, paid for the same exact model of fridge for $100 less, delivery estimate only a few days, arrived from HD exactly when they said it would. The worst part.. we've ordered from BID in the past with a good experience. I'm not sure what's changed or why the service has gone downhill so dramatically. It's sad that they no longer value their customers. If you need an appliance any time soon, this place may not be a good fit for you. read more

I'm trying to stay open re: BID after reading all the negative reviews. I was brought to BID by my contractor & was not given a choice of places to choose from. They were really helpful & kind while I was in the store & placed my order. I did buy the floor model LG washer/dryer & the washer is not working properly. I have reached out to them re: my issue but have yet been able to make direct contact with someone who can possibly fix the washer? My contractor did not provide me with any paperwork but BID did tell me I have a (1) year warranty! I am hoping to turn this into a (5) star review. I purchased a Speed Queen dryer from B.I.D about 3 years ago. My dryer stopped heating 3.5 weeks ago. The dryer is still under warranty so I needed to go through them to have it serviced. They couldn't find anyone for 3 weeks..... I had to go to the laundry mat during Covid-19 shelter in place. Initially I was told if they couldn't find a repair service with in 5 days they'd replace it. After 3 weeks it's STILL BROKEN and waiting to be repaired. They finally found someone to come take a look today and now they need to order the part but they aren't back in my area for another week. So frustrated!!!! Please please be careful what products you purchase from B.I.D. Clarify how the warranty works. Clarify they actually have people to service the appliance you purchase. read more

My wife and I went into BID today to look for a dishwasher, refrigerator and range. Our first impression of the store was very good. It was clean and well stocked with inventory. However, the salesperson that helped us was very unprofessional. He was downright rude and condescending. At one point, when we asked for a clarification on a couple of points that seemed to be contradictory, this person rolled his eyes and heavily sighed. At this point, I went to another part of the store to cool off while my wife had him print out some info to take home. A week after paying my $3000 deposit I get a call saying the manager is canceling my order because worries about the warranty when these two items from different manufacturers are used together. Home Depot would have been much quicker. We got a call on Nov 18th the fridge was in Seaside. The deliver/ installer company they use is backloged they had others that were not licensed. It took a couple of weeks to be delivered, but that's a lot better than it would've been with Home Depot or Lowe's. Every time I had a question the lady just kept telling me "all that info is on our website". If I had wanted to buy online I wouldn't have gone into the store! I don't usually write reviews, and not unless they're positive and I want to give the store a boost. In this case, I'm compelled to write a second review to reinforce my first negative review, now that more time has gone by with no help from the store with problems with the high-end appliances I bought from them. I wanted to support a local business and purchased a Speed Queen washer and dryer, a Bosch induction stove, a Bosch microwave, and a Fisher and Paykel refrigerator, all of which were on the BID store floor. Nothing exotic or ordered just for me, just high-end with promises that they would be great. My first review was pertaining to the Speed Queen washer and dryer. After two years (!!!) and multiple calls and in-store visits to BID with no qualified technician visits, the problem of the washing machine not starting unless I slam the door really hard has somewhat resolved. I still have to close the door very firmly, and often have to push it with my body because it won't start otherwise. I live in fear of it stopping working all together. ***Apparently what BID is doing is selling appliances that have no technical support in the Santa Cruz/Monterey Bay area so they basically shine you on when you need help, including the owner who couldn't have been less interested in my problem.*** I've been so focused on the washing machine that I haven't dealt with the problems with the Bosch stove and I won't contact BID because of how they've treated me with the washing machine. I know I'm out of warranty and am happy to pay for repairs that need to be made. However, when I called the Bosch company, they gave me the names of stores with technicians, one in San Jose and one in Hanford, CA. Neither store is willing to send someone to Santa Cruz. I plan to get rid of the stove and buy another in the near future, even though it's only two years old. On to the Fisher and Paykel refrigerator. The door has never shut the way refrigerator doors normally shut: a gentle push and it continues to shut. Mine needs to be pushed hard or pushed all the way. Doesn't sound like much but it's quite irritating and the door tends to hang open until it beeps. I have tried two things: one, calling Steve, the installer. He left a message saying he'd "try" to help me with it. I've called back three times and he doesn't return my calls. I've called the Fisher and Paykel company. They also gave me the name of technicians/stores out of the area. They also say they won't come to Santa Cruz!!! No service technicians in this area. I will never visit BID again. I think you'd be well advised to steer very clear of them. Easy to sell stuff; harder to follow through. By the way, no one from BID has ever called me to see if the washing machine problem has been resolved, in spite of the fact that I called and visited the store trying to get help at least 15 times, low-balling. read more

This is an update from previous review: I thought I would like this place, being it was local & had some good products. We were in the market for a certain type of washer & dryer; they had it, but then they wash their hands with us... Now we are looking for a certain size refrigerator, with those features my wife can't seem to live without. She sees that certain brand that we've been researching, advertised at BID Appliance. She makes the call & the guy can't be bothered, even though it is 8-9-14, Saturday at 12:30 pm. I guess they don't want the sale? We are going there to look at them & will go elsewhere to buy. Judging by their attitude, we can go in to look, without being bothered. I am pushing for using a COSTCO carried brand, because they have a very good customer service. I am through using BID, except to compare brands. They don't need my pennies. read more

I didn't have a problem purchasing the appliances for my kitchen remodel from BID, but the installer they recommended (Pacific Coast Installation) is not qualified or properly equipped to do the job. He "installed" the wall mounted range hood improperly, off center, and not even level. I had to loan him one of my diamond bit hole saws so that he could drill through the Talavera tile to mount the fan unit. He left without completing the installation. I ended up installing the unit myself to center it between the cabinets, and to level it properly. I called BID twice to complain about the installer, and all I got was that I should call him back, even though I explained that he was incompetent and that I didn't want him back in my house. If you to choose to purchase your appliances from BID, it would probably work out fine. But whatever you do, do not not use the installer they recommend under any circumstances. read more
