So the 3 stars is more because of the management aspect, and not the drinks. My girlfriend bought groupon tickets for their distillery tour for my birthday weeks in advance and had emailed the staff to book a reservation for a 2:00PM tour. However, the person who emailed her back said that no reservation was needed and that they can easily add us onto a tour group since it was only us 2. We arrived 20 minutes early and chilled out at the bar until it was time to walk into the tour room, but when it was 2PM, the person leading the tour told us that a private party had booked out this slot and that we would have to come back at 3:30PM. Had we known this ahead of time, we would have planned accordingly. Regardless, we ended up trying one of their Fall cocktail flights and it was really good. Went to Bully Boy on Sunday for the first time, to partake in their tour and tasting experience. Our guide, Ellie, was 1) super cool and 2) super passionate, which helped infuse the experience with genuine fun and kept us all informed. The origin story of this business is interesting and nostalgic, and we greatly enjoyed learning about the production and distillation process- I feel much more connected to the beverages we drink now :) The tastings were also great, and more so for knowing how they came to be! I highly recommend grabbing a cocktail at the bar beforehand, as you can carry it through with you - and they're really tasty to boot. The space is small so if you're going with a group plan ahead, but for the price what we got was definitely worth it, and we hung back after to enjoy the space and finish our drinks. Oh dear god 1 star feels too generous. This has got to be the worst place I've been to for drinks, the drinks were like what you would get at a dive bar. When we booked the table, we thought we would get a tour of the the distillery. We weren't even entirely sure what we were booking for a reservation. It just kept saying to "book a table" and that's it. We get there and vibes just felt completely off, there were only 2 or 3 tables that were being used and the rest were empty and the guy at front was like: "do you have a reservation?" I thought it was weird since it was so empty. Also according to my partner, they said that everyone started at us when we entered. The whole vibe and energy felt extremely off. We both feel like we weren't supposed to be here. We even got a free frosé and it tasted like what lotion or a candle smells like, even that felt too expensive. The drinks were tiny and filled to the brim with ice. Each drink was around $12 for something so tiny and sickeningly sweet. We ordered a few drinks and it came out around $50. read more

Stunning space, and probably one of the more seamlessly run wedding venues I've been to - hotels and dedicated spaces, included. The tasting room is beautifully decorate, moodily lit and the cocktail menu is world class. The toy box is deep; expect foams, infusions and elixirs rare to other lounges. The ceremony itself took place with the barrel room, and the coordinator used uplight to a warm and welcoming effect. Dinner was served in the distilling area, and the polished metals gave a "modern classic" feel to the meal. Bully Boy has come a long way since their plywood tasting counter at the original spot across the street. Pop in for a drink, or convince your engaged friends to host their nuptials here. Delicious cocktails. The alcohols are hit or miss. The estate gin isn't bad. My fave was the Boston Rum. It had a unique taste compared to other Caribbean rums. They offer cocktail flights and full size cocktail drinks. The bartenders are master creators. The tour was fun and knowledgeable. Was at Bully Boy for a rehearsal dinner and after party and the entire event was simply flawless start to finish. The spaces are so unique and open and inviting. It was a beautiful evening and the large door was open on to the street with allowed the fresh air to flow into the distilling area. The cocktails were fantastic I was able to try 3-4 of their craft creations. The bar manager is a genius. These concoctions are so well thought-out and well blended. Major kudos. One of my favorite places for a birthday party or drinks with friends! We've been to a few private parties and tours here, as well as just on our own. The tours are detailed and interesting, and the bar area is upscale cozy. Plus, we stop in sometimes just to buy bottles directly. You can't go wrong with a bottle of Bully Boy as a holiday present for coworkers (unless they're opposed to that sort of thing). Everything they offer is delicious, highest marks go to their Amaro and pre-mixed Old Fashioned. When directing first-time visitors, be very clear about where they're supposed to go. We once had friends end up in a gallery on that block (since then, I haven't been able to figure out where they were, since there's no gallery there...?) because the signage is a little vague. read more

I was in Boston for a few nights this past week and booked a tour after finding out that Bully Boy makes amari. We started with a taste of their gin, rum, and straight whiskey (all well-crafted and delicious) while getting some insight into their company history, brand values, operations, etc., etc., as you do on tours. I had a great time and it helped me appreciate the spirits on another level knowing what went into producing them. You can also grab a drink in their cozy cocktail lounge afterwards (or beforehand... or both.) This place is awesome. We came for a tour and some drinks, and had so much fun! Our tour guide was so energetic and hilarious - we loved her. They have so many unique cocktails, including one with peanut butter in it (I know it sounds strange, but give it a try - trust me). Made reservations for yesterday, the confirmation email referred the cocktail garden but when we arrived we were told the garden closed a couple of weeks and everything is inside now. The space looked beautiful! Dark and cozy with inviting lights. Sadly, we can't do indoor dining at the moment so we had to cancel. Do not be discouraged by the location! I came here on a Saturday night with friends and almost every seat was taken. The bartenders are friendly, knowledgeable, and can make a damn good beverage. I tried the Raspberry beret, with Gin, raspberry, lime, and soda. It was phenomenal- and I'm not usually a fan of gin. We've toured the actual distillery and had a great time. However, this review is for the Bully Boy Cocktail Garden that's opened during COVID-19. **Most importantly, they were not sanitizing anything at the tables in between parties.** We did not have a good experience at their cocktail garden- the service was absolutely horrible. Reservations are limited to 90 minutes for groups of 3-6. Our table of 3 waited almost 15 minutes for the waitress to approach our table. Once we had our drinks, she refused to return to our table. She checked on all the tables around us, but kept walking right by ours. After literally 45 minutes, we finally got her attention. We waited another 20 for our drinks (which were premade canned cocktails, so they required no prep). When they finally arrived we had to chug them because we were already over on our reservation time. Overall, the drinks were delicious but Bully Boy reminded me of what I don't miss about going out to restaurants. read more

Drive here! We walked and since the sidewalks were covered in snow we had to go into the street. People really wanted to run us over. The warehouse is unmarked because the area is not safe so my bf and I weren't even sure if we came to the right place for our tour. The door was locked because we came early but were let in as soon as we called. The tour was pretty average because the place is so small. Bully Boy's is a local brewery making Whisky, Vodka and Rum. The name comes from a horse owned by the two brother's grandfather or great grandfather (I blame the whisky fruit punch at the beginning of the tour for this lapse in memory). The fruit punch whisky was good! When you arrive it's an unassuming small batch brewery. All of their brewery products are sourced locally from the family farm in Stoughton. The distillery tour is about 30 minutes then you sample the brews. I'm not a whisky girl but I stepped right up. Bought my friend the fruit punch whisky, another the Vodka and myself a whisky for the hot toddy needs that have plagued me these last few weeks. The tour guide was a stand up comedian but I don't think he really liked questions it was obvious he just wanted to do his job and be done. The crowd was older and not obnoxious like the previous crowd had been. So all be said and done I've sampled the local goods, supported two brother's in their local endeavor and got a free t-shirt to boot. The bottles all were $10. So don't let the name fool you. My husband and I met some friends at Bully Boy distillery in Boston, MA on Saturday November 6th on our way home to CT. This was our first time but our friends attended many of the online mixology classes online and we were excited to try it for ourselves. When we first arrived we were able to sample 2 of their rums and their whiskey and actually purchased a bottle of their American Straight Whiskey. There was an event occurring that night and we arrived around 7pm and waited for the bartenders to switch over to their Fall menu. This wasn't a problem, we played some cards and waited. When the Fall menu was put out my husband ordered an Old Fashion and I waited to order my drink. I ordered 2 expresso martini's for me and my friend and the bartender asked for my credit card. She returned my card and I asked for a receipt to which she replied I would have to wait and that receipts don't print. My husband and I have had our cards compromised in Boston previously so we always track this information. As we were waiting my husband checked his account and found his account had been double charged for the old fashion (same bartender who I spoke to earlier). I went back to the bartender and asked about my receipt again and informed her my husband was double charged for his drink and was told that I would have to wait again with the bartender notably rolling her eyes at me now. I began to feel really uncomfortable. She then told me that receipts get emailed if an email is on file so I checked my phone and received a text message with my receipt with a tip added to the total that I did not authorize or apply myself. A male who works there then approached me (possibly a manager, wasn't told. He told us he had just gotten married 6 months prior after being a regular for 2 years and had part of the barrel as his wedding band) and asked about the situation but didn't give me time to explain why I was nervous. I tried to explain that the bartender added a tip onto my transaction without my authorization or knowledge (illegal/fraud) which made me very uncomfortable. He kept reporting that I had to have added the tip myself using the iPad. I tried to explain she did not hand me the iPad (luckily 2 of my friends were present) and my friends then informed him of this as well. He did not apologize but kept repeating that I need to have patience how they had an event and that we returned that night and had to give them time to figure out what was going on. I told him I just wanted an apology for what happened and how it was handled. I'm really not sure if he understood what was happening but informed me he would refund me my money but could not refund my husband his double charged item (I'm not sure why). I told him I felt extremely uncomfortable and asked to just return my drink for a refund so I could leave but was told he couldn't refund the money for a drink they already made but would refund the tip. About 5-10 minutes later he returns and offers us a free tasting of their negroni and barrel negroni to our group of 6 rectify the situation and apologized the for "confusion." I was a bit aggravated by that remark because what happened was more serious than confusion. My husband enjoyed the negroni and felt that made up for the honest mistake of double charging for the old fashion. Needless to say my money was not refunded and I had to start a dispute with my credit card. The amount is not the issue, it is the situation. The drinks here are delicious (expresso martini) but the bartenders and/or manager should be informed of proper procedures and these situations should be handled a bit more professionally. The old fashioned I had was one of the best ones I've tried. There whiskey that they make is so smooth and the prices are reasonable for cocktails in Boston. You will have order some food from the variety of food trucks that come there, but I've never been disappointed thus far. If it rains you can sit inside the distillery. That's what we did. But they created a nice little outside seating area in what looks like an industrial part of the city. We had a few different cocktails, the Monahan Boy was definitely my favorite. I haven't checked out the cocktail garden, but their virtual cocktail classes have definitely been a COVID highlight (if there is such a thing)! At first, I was like, what, I gotta pay to make my own cocktails and also buy my own ingredients?? But I have done 3 or 4 now and have never been disappointed! Way better drinks than I could have produced on my own. I feel like you really learn about mixology and they've improved the virtual format and pacing so you are not chugging or rushing. They find some really nice flavor combinations, and keep you excited all week because you get your ingredient list, and then make some infusions or macerations ahead of time. I was liking the Thursday evening classes because they are smaller and more intimate. But honestly maybe better suited for a non-weeknight unless you've got a leisurely Friday start. Be warned, these are super boozy! My minor critiques - I wish the ingredient list was released earlier so I could add to my Saturday grocery list. And also, I feel like Bully Boy is amazing for cocktail mixology and branding/vibe, but I haven't always been as impressed when trying their products straight. I've been here twice now and both times it was a great experience. I liked this place so much that I got a group of friends to come with me yesterday and it seems that everyone else enjoyed it as well. Warning: The walk here from public trans may not be the best walk you've taken in Boston. The distillery is located within the "New Market" warehouse district. This means dirty streets, not many people walking around, shady looking warehouses. In fact, I would never walk here on my own. Also, the Bully Boy distillery warehouse isn't very well marked, but it's across the street from a auto repair shop. Other than the location, this place is great if you have an hour to spend doing something new on a Saturday/Sunday. When you get there, you check in with your name and they hand you a cocktail made with one of their liquors (first time I had a white whiskey summer citrusy drink and for my second visit they had a fizzy Hub Punch drink). Then you get to watch a very cheesy yet entertaining video about the founders and the history of the distillery. After that you finally get to go on a 30 min tour of the place and learn about the distilling process of each of the liquor that they make. Finally when that is finished, you can try out their 5+ types of liquor and ask questions and/or buy their merchandise. If you have people visiting town or if you want to find something fun to do on the weekend, I recommend that you buy a groupon/living social for Bully Boy tour and get started on day drinking at 1 pm :) read more
