I would run as fast as you can away from this jewelry store! I've had several things repaired or reset here (early 2000's) and just found out yesterday that my diamonds have been stolen and replaced with lesser diamonds and much smaller diamonds! This place is a nightmare. You trust a store who is held in high regard by so many in Lompoc and find that you can't trust them. Not only am I heartbroken to find my original diamond in my wedding ring is gone but the diamonds in my tennis bracelet have also been stolen and replaced. I'm not sure where to go from here but I'm not letting this slide. If anyone has had jewelry repaired or reset here, I would definitely take them elsewhere and have them checked. When discussing with my now fiancé, Karen, about getting engaged, one thing we both agreed on was we wanted a ring that was meaningful and reflective of us and our relationship. This right away led me to Bumatay Jewelers, as this was where my grandmother loved buying her jewelry. After our first consultation, it became very apparent as to why. Bob was not only very friendly and informative, but also did a great job at balancing his professional input with our ideas. To make the engagement ring reflective of both of us, we wanted to somehow use our birthstones. We discussed several different ways of doing this; including incorporating my birthstone as the centerpiece gem. However, Bob helped us understand that using a diamond (or sapphire or ruby) as a centerpiece serve more than just conforming to tradition, as the hardness makes them more resilient and less likely to get scratched or cracked. Listening to our ideas and learning more about our lifestyles (we are both fairly active and somewhat outdoorsy), Bob came up with a design that not only used both of our birthstones and would be more practical to wear for an active lifestyle, but incorporated an additional element of symbolism as well. With the diamond as a centerpiece and a traditional symbol for engagement (or union of two individuals), he came up with an idea of using three smaller blue zircons (my birthstone) spiraling in toward the diamond from one side meeting three aquamarines (her birthstone) spiraling from the other. Using a channel setting to showcase the diamond's profile and prevent any snagging, the design Bob pulled together for us was perfect! It reflects us, our relationship, our lifestyle, and Bob's extensive expertise and experience designing beautiful, personalized, and meaningful rings for couples for 30+ years! The customer experience Bob provided was equally supreme. Aware that I spend most of my time up in the Bay Area and that my visits home to Lompoc were mostly to visit my ailing grandparents, and ultimately prepare for and attend their funerals, Bob was very considerate of and flexible with my schedule; even agreeing to meet with us in his off hours. When he learned of my hope to surprise Karen by proposing to her at one of our favorite fall events (the Northern California Renaissance Faire) just three weeks away, he agreed to have it ready to go in two. Not only did he deliver, but he even helped ensure the plan would be a surprised by distorting the timeline for completion when discussing next steps with Karen. In the end, we had a great experience with Bumatay Jewelers, got an amazing and unique ring, and a wonderful engagement. My favorite "every-day" bracelet broke. Not sure what to do or if I should even take it to an actual jeweler as it is not real gold or anything, I considered the fact that Bumatay has a great reputation in town and remembered that my mom has had some great experiences there. So I thought I would bring it in to them and just see if it was even salvageable so that I could wear it again. I wanted to share my experience with you (the yelp reader) because they could have simply turned me away and not helped me (because it is not gold and nothing that can be saudered) but they did! The guy I had took the time to explain the material my piece was made of, he further educated me on why the bracelet keeps breaking and even tried to fix it for me so that I could at least wear it again. I was not expecting this level of service. But after receiving it, I felt so compelled to tell everyone how great they are over there. These people really take care of the customer! Had a really great experience the first time. The second time I had my ring looked at because I was concerned that the ring was stamped wrong. The ring was platinum and stamped with 925. Went here looking for expertise, they stated the ring was fake and Walmart makes rings like this. I know they were busy and didn't have much time but to provide false info like that is alarming. read more

I purchased three delicate white gold chains, custom ordered with Bob's advice, from which to hang a beautiful and frightfully expensive Tahitian pearl I bought in French Polynesia. The problem was the pearl was suspended from a spiral bale with a small diamond and kept tangling in the strands of the necklace. I returned to the shop three times to have Bob and/or his son Alex help me untangle it and to problem solve how to prevent this from continually happening. Finally we figured out to solder the bale closed. I then had a friend suspend the pearl in a shell drilled for the chains. It is absolutely gorgeous and tangle free!!! I am sure both father and son were weary of me returning so many times with horrendous tangles but they were patient with me and we eventually resolved the problem. I think it is important to support local family businesses and to shop small. You would not get this level of personal attention from Costco or a chain jewelry store in a mall. read more

My wife took her wedding set in to be repaired. They told us it would only be about $75 parts and labor to set the diamond we were providing onto the ring to replace one that had been lost, but when my wife went to pick up the ring the price had gone up to 120 and the had unsoldered the two bands. We had specifically said all we wanted was the diamond done. So she had to wait another day for them to solder the bands back together and I can't imagine how they could have done a worse job (especially since it was perfect before they took them apart). Not only are the bands rotated several degrees from one another but they aren't lined up left to right either. The solder is messy and obvious as well. It looks like it was soldered by an electrical hobbyist not a jeweler. WE WILL NOT be setting foot in that place again. read more

For years I've gone in to get batteries changed on watches and and had repair work done on a pair of family heirloom jade earrings and jade pendant a couple of years ago. Last Saturday I went in again to get another battery changed on another watch. While waiting the young lady who assisted me told me to help myself to some refreshments (assortment of cookies and soft drinks). By the time I grabbed a cookie and a diet coke, I noticed they were having a store wide sale and told my watch was ready. Noticing a 20% sale on silver jewelry, I purchased a pair of silver earrings. Because my purchase and the battery replacement totalled over $25 dollars, I was entered into $100 gift card drawing. Lo and behold, I get a call that evening informing me that I won.
