When Melbys was run by the dad, it was THE jewelers in town. Everyone went there. I had my wedding ring re-antiqued and I had to take it back twice to have it corrected and had the prongs redone so they didn't catch on my clothing. Very disappointing. read more

Horrible service! It was obvious the guy working hated his job and did not want to help us at all. Everything he said was so negative and so rude that we walked out. He gave us false information that my jewelry was fake when we heard the machine say it was real so we went to two other jewelry places in Santa Maria and they confirmed that it was 100% real. The crazy part was he wanted to charge extra for all these details when the place in Santa Maria where we got it done charged us a decent price and did exactly what Melbys said they couldn't do with my rings without charging extra and adding onto it, not to mention they are military friendly and gave us a discount and melbys refused. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. They will overcharge you! Please take your business somewhere else where you will get accurate information on your jewelry pieces and not get screwed over and feel valued as a customer. read more

I've only been a few times, and they have been extremely pleasant and helpful. They usually have a consistent flow of customers which shows me I'm not the only one that agrees with my rating. The shop is quiet yet peaceful. Most of all it is clean and holds a very nice atmosphere. The employees are all very knowledgeable, quick to help, and kind. I have nothing but great things to say about Melby's Jewelers. Mark helped tremendously in the design of my engagement ring. My fiancé had brought in a diamond from my late grandmother and Mark was able to use his knowledge to design the most beautiful engagement ring. Since the proposal was a complete surprise, my fiancé did not get my ring size correct. My ring was over three sizes too big. Mark's son was so kind and reassuring when we brought the ring back in to be resized. It took about three weeks to be resized, but that's only because it had to be sent back to be remade. When it was all said and done, my ring exceeded my expectations and Mark even waived the cost of resizing. We are so thankful for this family business. They definitely care about their customers. I recently moved in to the Orcutt area and wanted to get my watch adjusted so I decided to check this place out and keep it local but to my surprise I walked in and was greeted by a gentlemen and told him my watch was too big and needed to be adjusted if he could help me with it. Right away it seemed like I was being a bother to him as it looked like he was watching the World Cup games and told me it would be an hour and then told me it would be $30 to adjust it he then looked further into the repair and said he wouldn't recommend Doing anything do it as it would be too tight after he takes off a link and to me to just leave it as is.... I was kind of blown away to be told that as I've had a few watches adjusted in other places in my life... today I decided to stop by Anthony's jewelers and they did the repair on the spot and told me it was only going to be $10 and now the watch fits perfect again. I will probly never step foot into this place again it was my first and probly my last time I'll go elsewhere read more

Eric Melby was helping her and told her that he could not supply her with a band as the replacement bands were not available for her model of wristwatch. She asked to see some new watches and he did so. She picked a new watch that she loved and bought it. He was so helpful and treated her just like his Great-grandfather Don Melby helped me with my wedding bands in 1961. Love that store. read more

I have found the work that the jewelers do at Melby's Jewelry quality work. I have had a few of my older jewelry modernized or revamped and Melbys has always stepped up and did a stellar job. I have a necklace with my grandchildren's thumbprints. I took the pieces I had and the jewelers attached it to a necklace I had. This was almost 4 years ago. I wear the necklace everyday. My engagement ring came from here and we had a great experience with them. They helped my fiance customize a ring for me and it turned out absolutely perfect. They resized it and it's fit great. I haven't had any worries about stones falling out, the prongs are strong and the ring is beautiful. They really did a wonderful job and the ring that they made is timeless looking. I get compliments on it all the time, and it's great that they have the expertise to help create a customized ring. They resized everything in a timely manner, and have always been extremely warm and helpful when we have gone in to the store. We just went back to get my rings soldered together, and also took in a pearl that we got from the Pearl Factory to get it set since the Pearl Factories settings/chains were super overpriced and we were not sure of the quality of them. This is a family owned operation, and the guy are very very nice. They do appraisals and cleanings too, which I would suggest. I clean my jewelry regularly, but it's not as good as they do. Definitely check them out if you are looking for some nice jewelry. They are much more helpful than the mall places and do not do high pressure sales tactics, which I appreciate. read more
