This was our first visit to Bumpers Landing, and my wife and I stopped in for a late-afternoon lunch/early dinner. She ordered the shrimp tacos, and I had the Bumper Cobb Salad. Both meals were delicious, fresh, and very satisfying. The weather was beautiful, and we really enjoyed sitting outside on the dock watching the boats come and go. It created a relaxing atmosphere that made the experience even more enjoyable. It wasn't overly busy, and the service was fairly quick. Our server was pleasant and attentive when we spoke with her, and I could tell she was taking care of multiple tables. My only real complaint was that our drinks weren't refilled very often, and we had to ask for refills rather than having them offered proactively. It's a small thing, but I do appreciate having my soft drink kept topped off during a meal. Other than that, the experience was very positive. The prices were reasonable, the food was excellent, and the waterfront setting was fantastic. We'd definitely return and would recommend Bumpers Landing to anyone looking for a relaxing meal by the water. read more

UPDATE after multiple visits: Now that I live nearby and have been to Bumpers Landing multiple times, my original impression has definitely changed. At best, this place is mediocre--and that's frustrating because the property itself has unlimited potential. The waterfront atmosphere during the summer is easily the best thing Bumpers has going for it. When the outdoor areas are open, it's a great setting. Take that away during the colder months, though, and it starts feeling like just another neighborhood hole-in-the-wall bar. The food is decent but nothing memorable, and the service has consistently been mediocre. A lot of the staff seem like they've been there forever and are simply going through the motions. There's very little energy or hospitality that makes you excited to come back. The culture also seems to revolve heavily around the owner, Paul. There are references to him throughout the bar, including a custom neon sign joking that knowing Paul won't get you a discount. I've also personally watched him enter the restaurant with what felt to me like a "local celebrity" presence. Maybe some regulars enjoy that, but to me it comes across as more ego-driven than guest-driven. I've also noticed political messaging displayed within the business. Regardless of whether I personally agree or disagree with those views, I don't understand the business decision. A restaurant should be somewhere everyone feels welcome. Why potentially alienate paying customers over politics? From an operational standpoint, the biggest issue I see is culture. During my most recent visit, one of the apparent leaders was running around helping serve food and handling whatever needed to be done, which I respect, but the overall staff still had very little energy. It feels like a bar that happens to serve food rather than a restaurant/bar actively trying to create a memorable experience. That's the disappointing part: the location itself could be incredible. Bring in fresh leadership, reinvigorate the staff, improve the food and service, create some actual culture and energy, and take full advantage of that waterfront property. This could easily be one of the best neighborhood bars in the area. Right now, though, I wouldn't recommend it. There are other waterfront options competing for the same customers, and a great location alone isn't enough. Now that summer is finally showing up, this is such a great hang out! Right off the water, boats and live music most evenings, can't want more than that! I hope they bring back their Sunday brunch! We came here for my son's birthday and I had never heard of it before. It's away from the main drag so you really have to know where you are going. It's really a beautiful location along the river. I tried to make reservations which they said they don't take reservations, then when we got there, they wouldn't let us sit in a specific area because they said they were expecting a group of people so we asked about the reservation situation and they said they must be friends of the owner. Anyways, the food options are very good. They even have pizza. So I have no problem with the food or the location, it was more just bad service and a big mixup on one of my friends meal and so he had to watch while we all ate. He didn't get an apology from anyone which surprised me. I got the power bowl which was very good but I was confused when they brought it because it didn't look like a bowl full of ingredients, it was like a plate of ingredients more like fajita ingredients. But like I said, I did enjoy it very much. One of the people in our party got a salad with salmon on it, and she said it was very heavy with spices which she didn't think she saw listed in the menu. One of my sons got a pizza and he absolutely loved it and then two people got hamburgers which they loved also along with the great french fries. Although I only gave it three stars, I would come back here again hoping that maybe it was just one bad waitress. She rarely checked on us. In fact I don't think she checked on us at all because I had to flag her down to get carry out boxes and she didn't bring a lot of the Side ingredients we had asked for like someone asked for ranch dressing, mine was supposed to come with sour cream and salsa, and another person didn't get their side of cheese. read more

Came here for bingo on Wednesday night again and came an hour early as usual as we have been for weeks and we come in and a bunch of tables and bar seats says reserved on them! Garlic cheese bread was excellent. Paid $20 check with $100 bill. Change was (3)$20 & (2)$10. I intended to tip $5 but lacked the change. It took 5 minutes to get server's attention. She seemed a little miffed when I asked her to break a $20, but was able to accomplish this with the bills in her pocket. I tipped $5 as planned and left. We had dinner on Friday and the waitress was very new and inattentive. I had the perch dinner and they over cooked the fish and it was the worst fish I ever got from a restaurant by the water. Very disappointing experience at brunch today. My husband and I have been coming to Bumpers for many years and have never experienced customer service like this before. The hostess was extremely rude and dismissive. We waited a long time to be seated, yet a party of six that walked in after us was seated immediately. When we asked about it, the hostess argued that she "could not seat two people at a six-top," even though most of the tables in the restaurant are six-tops. The only option we were given was to sit at the bar or share a table with strangers, which is unreasonable. After being longtime customers, this kind of treatment was very disappointing. We found this to be a dockside grill and bar serving a mostly typical Michigan dockside and bar menu with a large number of outdoor and indoor seating option. Service was prompt, efficient and friendly. We received a helpful heads up that the kitchen was running behind (took 30 minutes) and we appreciated it. We enjoyed nice views of the boats and the water on the canal. The food was decent, but could have been a 4+ experience it had a bit more flare, uniqueness and freshness. The sauce was tasty and had a tad bit of heat, however it needed more sauce and definitely more ranch. Nice paring with the pickles. Onion rings were good - but not fresh or hand dipped. Was banned out of no where on Mother's Day with my family all because one of the managers, Kim Moody, her sister doesn't care for me out of rumors she heard. Then when I called to speak to the general manager David Colling, the waitress who answered the phone took the phone up to him and then he asked who it was she told him my name and he quoted, " She wants to know why she was banned by Kim and it's because she's a dumb whore". It was my first time here. Cool place. But super slow service. I cleaned my own table for a party of 6, we were told there was an hour wait, they completely skipped us from the waiting list so between finally being seated and having our food delivered to the table, it was a nice and LONG 4 hours. I asked for the check to pay the drinks and leave long before the food came out but was disregarded. Part of our people left because 4 hours is insane to wait for swearing and food. Money taken off the bill would of been nice. Talking to a manager would of been nice. But couldn't get the server back in time for anything. read more

Lived on the East Side for 30 years and love being on the water with a variety of bar options after boat days. The customer service and food at this place are the worst on the entire East Side. Being a physician that delivers quality care to my patients, I expect quality service, especially with a full staff and not being that busy on a Sunday afternoon when we arrived. Between us we ordered four different beers trying to get one that was cold - both bottled and draft. We even asked the waitress which beer was the coldest. Wow! All four were room temperature and we only had a few sips out of each one. Still charged for all four even though we said they were warm. Food is hit or miss. Haven't been there since they went crazy for trump. I won't go to any business that wears their politics so openly. Back then, the food was great. It took our waitress 30 minutes to even get us drinks. I am not a patient person but I sat and waited. Finally. We order along with other large parties. How is it that those parties got their food, ate, and were leaving and I was still sitting with a coke. After an hour and a half in the sun with empty promises that ours was next. Ma'am, you said that 15 customers ago. I walked to the front to look for a manager and man that was a mistake. Find her and she makes us wait another 5 minutes. Arrived here on one of the earlier and sunnier days of the year. It was packed and in spite of a large parking area parking wasn't simple (although we were in a keep and parked on some dirt!) Had a beer from "self " help and wandered around the big dock and watched the boats and folks. That was interesting! And pretty day. They had live entertainment starting and we went inside to eat. Things got really backed up and it took us quite some time to get some food (so behind that kitchen stopped taking orders for a while.) bartender was nice and kept the beer coming! Can I say my favorite part was the sweet potato fries? So yummy! Had that and the lobster club special. It came loaded with bacon. It was good and probably not anything I'd order again. My companion had the Nashville hot chicken and he loved it! (This is his food that he tries everywhere...) had a few healthy options and a lot of "bar" type food.
