Sooo.. A slightly rough start as our party had a reservation that was not accepted via open table and they were not initially able to accommodate. But the food was good not great, service was acceptable but they seemed a bit frazzled. The place itself was very nice and has so much potential for the summer with that patio. When we got in and the reservation wasnt accepted the manager (whose name I cant remember) helped us get something sorted out and he made sure we were taken care of the rest of the evening which we appreciated. We didnt realize it was their first weekend open under new management. Given that information they did exceptionally well but admittedly they still have some things to work out. Wow. I didn't know a place could be this bad. Such a disappointing Mother's Day meal. Lots of empty tables but it took us 30min to be seated even with a reservation. Once seated it took an additional 30 min to be greeted by a waiter -- This seemed to be everyone's experience. The menu is so not it. As nicely as they tried to remodel the restaurant the menu did not match the vibe - fried, sub- par bar food options like every other restaurant in town. They were out of the steak, the only thing that sounded appetizing. I settled with potato cheddar soup that was more like queso in a cup. Such a disappointment. Came on a beautiful Friday night around 6:00 and was able to sit outside overlooking the water. We were able to snag the last table with an umbrella. As the patio has full afternoon sun I would suggest they offer more umbrellas. There were plenty of other tables available but everyone wanted the shade on a hot day. There were 3 of us. Two shared the calamari and ordered the perch dinner and said it was good. I ordered the Sun-kissed Splash cocktail and it was very good. I ordered for dinner the coconut shrimp. They give you 8 pieces as an appetizer which was plenty for me as a dinner. They were good, not best I've had as shrimp texture was a little soft. Our server was fine. But more help is needed clearing/cleaning tables and the ground especially being outside attracting flies. It is a beautiful setting on the water. That was the main attraction for me. read more

Where do I begin. I'm writing this after leaving from sitting 50 minutes with only being acknowledged by the busboy (who was fantastic). We stood inside for about ten minutes with literally nobody saying a word to us until one waitress came in and yelled across the room to seat ourselves. Take note of the sign in the photo attached that says Please Wait to be Seated. So, we went outside to a dirty table (the busboy promptly cleaned it and was super nice to talk to). From there, I had to ask a waitress who was nearby for menus after 15 minutes. Finally, 40 minutes into our lovely experience, another server asked if anyone had been to us and took our drink order. After another ten minutes, the menu girl from earlier (who was serving the table next to us mind you) asked us if we had been helped. We told her not to worry that we were leaving. We did see the other server with our drinks as we left and told her not to worry about bringing them and she seemed genuinely shocked we were leaving but apologized. A sports bar but with gourmet food menu is how I would describe this place plus excellent views if you're dining outside during nice weather. I was impressed with their menu it was some classic dishes but some elevated choices like the goat & fig flatbread which was really good. The short rib and pork bolognese was delicious and very meaty. If they aren't making their own pasta they are definitely using a very high quality pasta. The salmon was good but needed a little more salt to balance out the flavor. And last but not least which was the recommended by our fantastic server is the Oreo peanut butter cup. Decadent and delicious, smooth peanut buttery filling with Oreo in a chocolate shell. I would recommend to anyone who loves chocolate and peanut butter. read more

Whoever is managing this restaurant needs a serious lesson in operations. The restaurant was less than half full, yet there were long delays for everything--from drinks to food service. There appeared to be plenty of servers, bartenders, and support staff on hand, but service was consistently slow. Our server was apologetic, but we still had to repeatedly remind staff about requests and follow up on items that should have been handled the first time. To make matters worse, there was an event scheduled for the evening of July 3, 2026, and it seemed the staff's focus shifted almost entirely to preparing for that event rather than taking care of the customers already dining in the restaurant. Instead of assigning a small team to handle event preparation, it felt like the entire staff was distracted, and existing guests were being rushed through their meals to make way for the event. I've rarely seen a restaurant managed so poorly. The lack of organization, attention to customers, and overall service was extremely disappointing. Tried booking a birthday party for my daughter 40th. For about 50 people. Just simple pizza and salad. The event organizer made it difficult. It was a minimum of $1000. Which was ok. I couldn't get him to tell me what I was getting for that. He was going to email me a menu with some pricing. Never got the email. I texted him multiple times and tried calling him, he ghosted me. I gave up. I went to Hamlin pub. The girl was gracious It literally took 10 minutes over the phone. Gave her a deposit. Simple done deal. From the sound of some of the reviews. Waited 1.5 hours, following our reservation. We decided not to wait, after the fried Brussels Sprouts were chilled, and luckily we had fresh salt and pepper shakers at the table to season them. They brought out a menu with chips and salsa on it, so we ordered it. After over an hour she brings it out and we played bounce the chips as we passed time, they were so stale we couldn't break em!! I have been to Gino's Surf twice. once with a planned ahead party in May and once for a birthday dinner. There will not be a 3rd time. The service was extremely poor from beginning to end. long delays in drunk orders, fries came out of kitchen cold although wrap was a little warm, the mixed veggies were sub par. Clearly frozen carrots, broccoli (stems-no florets) and cauliflower. Was not fully cooked, they were hard. So many workers there for the "event" they were having that night. it was becoming increasingly obvious our presence for dinner as the "event" was going to start was not what they wanted when we arrived there were maybe 15 tables in use. as it got closer to 8:00 there were maybe 3 tables in use including ours. Our server was polite but was getting pulled from her job of serving to attend meetings regarding the event. the weather was not good up until 8:30 so there were not a lot of people there. So I don't understand why our service was so poor.My group was really hoping to enjoy this place as most of them have not been there before. There were 7 of us. 6 will not be returning due to poor service by management, bartenders, cold food and overall (hurry up and get out) poor feelings. Dined at Gino's for my husband's birthday with good friends last night. What a disappointment! 3 of us ordered the perch dinner. The mashed potatoes were so rubbery - I think they were instant and way too thick. Vegetable du jure were frozen vegetables. Husbands French fries were cold. We had to ask for ketchup, tartar sauce and gravy. Everything seemed off for the restaurant - front windows were filthy and the hostess sat us at a dirty table. Said she would be back to wipe it - we instead had to ask our waiter. Our waiter was nice - but we complained about the food. He said he would bring me fries - of course we were done before they were ready - so he did not deliver them. He asked if we wanted to talk to his manager - but was very concerned if it was regarding his service. He asked if we would come back and we all said no. He should have sent his manager - but did not. Just a very very horrible dining experience - sad - sitting on the waterfront of Lake St. Claire is beautiful - but the food was disappointing at best. read more

I don't know where to start! This place could have so much potential, the new owner must me brain dead to have such a small menu that you can't even perfect each dish. First off coconut shrimp was good until you tried the sauce. How do you mess up the sweet sauce you get a most places with this recipe. Perch was ok, the mashed potatoes served with it runny and the gravy was disgusting. Now the pizza I was really looking forward to but man it sucked so bad! The crust was so floppy and soggy. I got an instant stomach ache after eating 2 pieces. New chef? Fire his a$$! Place was empty on a Friday night. Waitress was slow as molasses. We sat down at 7:00 didn't order food till 8:15! It's such a great location. The outside deck and the live music are perfect for the beautiful Michigan Summer. That being said, Gino's needs more staff. They have a great menu but not enough waitstaff or kitchen staff to keep up with the demand for food and drinks during the busy dinner time. I saw patrons complaining all through the venue. Frustrating for both the people that have come to Gino's for a Friday night dinner and music AND for the staff. Hopefully this can be resolved before we give Gino's another try. read more

This place really has a lot going for it, and I want to see it succeed. The space is beautiful--modern, clean, and definitely gives off that "new and fresh" vibe. The food was good. A little pricey, but tasty. I had something off the main menu and enjoyed it, and everyone else at our table got pizza and couldn't stop talking about how good it was. I'd honestly go back just to try it for myself next time. Now, the service... that's where things fell flat. When we walked in, every table already had full glasses of water sitting out. I didn't love that. Personally, I'd rather have my drink poured at the table. It just feels more sanitary and intentional. We had a reservation for 10 people, and they sat us at two square tables pushed together, which basically meant the people at the corners had no space to eat. When we asked if we could have another table added, they said they were too busy and might not be able to do it. Honestly, if we reserved for 10, it shouldn't feel like we're being crammed in. To their credit, they did end up accommodating us, and our server was nice and friendly once we were settled in. Like I said, this place has tons of potential. The location, the food, the atmosphere--it's all there. I'm really hoping my next visit is a 5-star experience, because I'll definitely give it another shot. 8/25 Soft opening this weekend, grand opening on Sept. 20th. They're still working out the bugs in service as expected with any new restaurant with a soft opening. Very nice renovation, beautiful large patio with plenty of seating overlooking the lake. Comfortable patio couches lining the lake front edge of patio and an outdoor bar on the side. Indoor is spacious with again plenty of high top, standard tables, booths, large wrap around bar in the center. TV's lined up next to each other on the top of the walls, great for sports watching crowds. This is a very nice place for drinks and food with a beautiful view. read more

This place has been a part of my childhood, so when I saw it reopened, I had to go back. My husband and I had an amazing lunch, Chicken and Spinach Gratin was cheesy and fresh, the New England Clam Chowder was the best I've ever had, and the Gino's Burger was huge and made from prime rib and brisket. I love coming to this place as a bar. Great ambiance, I love that it's on the water and they have so much outdoor seating. The security guy was pretty rude though when I came for an event. It is super underwhelming as a restaurant. The food is way too expensive and it's not very good. The chicken spinach dip or whatever was super watery. The calamari tasted like something they just took out of the freezer. The salads were dry and limp. The best thing was probably the pizza. The bartender also messed up our drinks and didn't know how to make a mojito. I want this place to succeed because I'm so happy they reopened it, but they need to fix some things. read more

Been wanting to try this place as it renovated and on the water. I stopped in for some drinks and food on a Saturday afternoon. It has a nice bar area and is quite big inside, has an outstanding patio on lake with an outdoor bar. Summer will be nice there on that patio. They also have bands in and on this day they had Glen Brooke singing! My food was amazing and worth the cost as it was a little pricy. They had some good beers on tap as well, I had Alaskan amber which I love. It was a good time and I will come back. The servers were very good as well very personable. read more

Avoid any buffet! Made a reservation for Mother's Day not knowing it was a buffet only. Nowhere on the website did it say it was buffet only. The food was just ok, desserts were great, but it was completely unorganized. They had the lines coming in from each direction. So everyone cutting. They gave us our flatware in damp linen napkins. The server sat us and told us there would automatically be a 15% gratuity charge. 30 minutes later she came by a thanked us for our patience as this was their first time doing a buffet THEN said her manager upped the gratuity charge to 18% because it was their first time doing a buffet. ‍ read more

We made a reservation for a table for 10- for my birthday on Saturday for a 7pm dinner party. The service was slow, table never got cleared, we constantly had to ask for refills on sodas , or drinks. When it's a Saturday night and you have a table full of people that have every intention to drink , dance and have a good time- you'll think the service would be on their game. Food was mediocre- typical bar food and a bit Over priced. Harrison Twp needed this place! With Luigi's being the only spot with really good quality food, the area was prime for another spot to open. We've been several times and have never been disappointed with the food, that atmosphere is very nice and the patio has the best view for miles. The service can be a little less than desirable at times, and maybe because the majority of servers there are not seasoned vets at the service profession. No big deal..grab another adult beverage while you wait and enjoy the beautiful views of the lake. When the food comes you won't be disappointed, decent portions and well prepared. The short rib pasta is nothing short of amazing. The Pizza is great and so are the burgers. Happy to see this place open and serving great food, having entertainment on the weekends. Took my wife and mother for an early mothers day dinner today approx. 4:30 this afternoon, dining room was completly empty, bar 1/2 full, less tha 5 tables outside, our table we were sat at was never clared , had to ask to get it wiped down, drink were served on a dirty table, our server had a crappy attitude came back asked are you ready to order ? never given menus, food runner brings out food NO silverware, asked for water she brought only 1 glass, ordered medium rare tenderlion was well done as in cooked shoe leather.... do you think were coming Back...... crappy food , Shi__ty service. The biggest thing they have ads running on a few TVs with specials and pictures of food and drinks and there's one that says home team game day specials so we're there for the third game of the Tigers wildcard game but of course the game day specials weren't for baseball just for football which I thought was BS if you're advertising specials for the home team then my thinking is it should be football baseball hockey. We popped in Gino's Surf on Valentine's Day with no reservation. Luckily they had a table available. We started with an Old Fashioned and a Cranberry Mule. Both drinks were tasty. We ordered chicken and spinach gratin for an appetizer. It was very creamy and cheesy with chicken and spinach. Delicious! Both of us ordered the salmon which had a Cajun sugar seasoning and came with garlic mashed potato's, green beans and sweet carrots. It was very tasty! The restaurant was lively and had a singer playing the guitar. The bar is very big with plenty of seating and they have tv's all around the perimeter if you want to watch the game. They also have a large outdoor patio for summer time so we will definitely be back! read more
