While in Mrytle Beach for my birthday trip, Tony and I stopped by this great little establishment by accident. We had walked over from our hotel to grab a sandwich at the Deli next door. I opened the door to this great place on hapistance!! Dark panelled walks, dark comfy inviting booths and large oak bar alongside one wall gives it that OLD WORLD feel and IRISH PUB nuiance that it shouts!!! After a long day of Mini-Golf fun with friends, some refreshments and relaxation were called for. This place was cute and had some great beer selections, so we popped in. Initially seating ourselves at a booth, we soon asked if there was outdoor seating and relocated to the back deck to enjoy the evening breeze. Service was friendly and helpful in recommending sides and beverages, and we soon received drinks and appetizers. The hot new item was the corned beef egg rolls, and they were delicious, with Thousand Island for dipping. The fresh pretzels with cheese and mustard were up to par, and by the time we were done with those I barely had room for a bite of my Cuban, so I ate it later and it was delicious reheated in the toaster oven as well. Hubby's club was fresh and fully stacked, and everyone else enjoyed their sandwiches as well. The atmosphere was loose, casual, and fun, with 80s pop hits playing and cornhole set up to play. This is clearly a locals place to hang out, and while we could have stayed for hours, we had other places to be. We'll remember it for next time, for sure! read more

They honestly don't have a bad food item on the menu and their beer selection is second to none in Myrtle Beach. We have been going here for almost 20 years and would recommend to anyone. Wow, the bartenders here work their asses off! We came to watch the Badger and Ohio State game on a Saturday night and they were slammed. They dealt with lots of fun and not so fun customers and were incredible! They were super friendly and efficient, despite the chaotic customers. They were taking drink orders, making them, and placing food orders so quickly. They drinks were great and the food was delicious! I don't usually love burgers but their sliders were incredible! They came with the most delicious fries and coleslaw. They were garnished with pickles, which earns them extra points in my book. :) The pub itself is the cutest little English pub! It really feels like you're at a pub in England. I highly recommend! One of my favorite spots in Myrtle Beach. read more

Not a British or Irish Pub. But it is very good. Despite the decorations adorning the windows, walls and menus which scream British Isles cuisine, Bumstead's is neither a British nor an Irish Pub. No bangers & mash. No fish & chips, no pasties, colcannon, corned beef & cabbage, nor Yorkshire pudding. Meager selection of English brews. Seeing the good reviews, we drove 50 mi fr our home in Marion County, SC only to find out that the food offerings are American style, but once we got over that, what we ordered was very tasty. We honed in on the sandwiches, of which there is a good selection of well-prepared Reubens, clubs and subs. I got the Roast Beef Reuben and a Guinness on tap, my wife got a huge order of warm pub pretzels w/mustard and an excellent local Imperial IPA on tap, New South Brewing Dirty Myrtle. My dad got a nice-sized Italian sub and a Yuengling on tap. We all enjoyed our selections. The portions are large, so we had plenty to take home for lunch the next day. Service was very good too. Our waitress was the barmaid, who was very quick, friendly and eager to please. The 2 sandwiches, pretzels, and 4 beers, came to about $70 w/tip and tax. Will visit again. read more

We stumbled into Bumstead's on the first night of our honeymoon, and I'm so glad we did! We had exceptional service, and a draft blueberry wheat beer that was simply amazing. My wife and I split the appetizer of chicken wings, and we still had some leftover after our meal! The mild sauce is a traditional wing sauce, not too hot at all. I'd go for hot if you're brave. For my entreé, I ordered the cuban sandwich and again, was not disappointed. There was a hefty portion of pulled pork, then ham, spicy mustard, and pickles. So good. And it was huge--I took half home! My wife ordered one of the Dipper sandwiches, which also had a lot of meat and a lot of cheese. It's worth the extra $1 to get the fresh fried potato chips--they come to the table still warm! We were also astonished that a Fireball and diet drink was only $4! You can't go wrong here! read more

I had really high hopes because I'm a HUGE FAN of DAGWOODS in SSB. First, the 6 of us walk in and sit at the bar but we couldn't find any bartender or staff. We're looking around and wondering what was going on? Other people were at the bar and they had beverages and food in front of them, so someone was somewhere... Come to find out, there was ONE bartender who was managing the tables AND the bar. Poor guy was running his butt off. But, to his credit, he was super nice and never took his overworked situation out on us. Not one attitude at all. I ordered the meatball appetizer to start off with. I have to say it was a bit of a disappointment. The marinara sauce was very tasty and had some nice flavors going for it, but the meatballs, tasted like Costco frozen meatballs. (Don't shoot me!) But, they just weren't doing it for me. The portion size was pretty decent (8 of them?) and I ate all of them but I was starving or at least very hungry. Would I get them again? Not a chance. Still feeling the need to eat, I ordered the chicken fingers off the appetizer menu. Again, underwhelmed. At least they were HOT but they seemed to hold the grease, if you know what I mean. Hubby had the meatball sub, go figure, and while he agreed about the Costco comment, he still ate all of his because he, too, was very hungry. Will we go back. Yes but we will try something else on the menu. I can't attest to the adult beverages or prices because I had a soda and glass of water. This time. I've had many a late night at Bumstead's. It's a proper sports bar with plenty of TV's and games all over. The pool tables and dart boards are all over as well. Went out with a few friends after playing in a local tournament. This place came highly recommended and had such high reviews, that I entered with such high expectations. The beer selection seemed to have been limited on the day we went, as they were out of a few beers. I asked for any kind of local lager or amber and was told there weren't any on tap. most of their beers were bottled. (which was a surprise for me). The place was nearly empty on a Friday night at 8pm, which is also very unusual for a bar. We ended sitting in the back room. Ordered a set of wings, which were supposed to be hot and spicy, however didn't have any spice on them whatsoever! (we had to put on some additional hot sauce). I was really hoping for a good burger, but was told by the waitress that the burgers really weren't that good.., and that they are more known for their sandwiches. I ordered an italian sandwich without the cheese. Looks like it was pre-made, as it came with cheese. when they took it back, and then brought me a 'new one', it looks like they just scrapped the cheese off one of the other meats, so was not able to eat it. luckily someone else in my group was able to eat it and it didn't go to waste. Got mild, medium and garlic Parmesan wings and all were incredible, as were the batter dipped fries. I've never had food here aside from Dagwoods next door, but it seems like your standard bar food. Not knocking it but I haven't tried it. The bartenders are always friendly and the service is great. They have games like giant connect four, pool, and darts to keep you entertained. If it's cold (not that often) you can always warm up by the fire on the back patio too. This place is cool, based on the sole parameter of sitting outside. The patio seems like a hidden gem since it's enclosed with a fire place and a lot of tvs, but open air. So I feel like if you settle in here it would be very easy to forget the world around you. And also on the good side is they had a pretty wide selection of craft beer on taps and in bottles. Happy hour specials were marvelously cheap, with bottles coming in at like $3 and pints less than $4 from what I remember. Standard hours had pints coming in around $5-$6. The only real problem here is that the inside smells like when you visited grandmas house which had decades of cigarette smoke soaking the walls and furniture, so even though she wasn't smoking when you're there, it still stinks. Maybe I'm just spoiled as a Canadian to not have smoking indoors for the last decade or two, but this was just such a punch in the face on arrival it's worth noting. Luckily we retreated outdoors and had a good time so I'll still give them 4 stars. Staying inside would be a 3 tops. We didn't eat, although the sandwich menu looked comprehensive. read more

We trugged out with a large group for a late dinner one Saturday night and was looking for any place that was not a tourist trap. And we found it thanks to our Yelp app! The food is basic bar food - sandwiches, burgers, wraps, the like. And the beer selection is rather large with plenty of drafts and pitcher specials. If you can, try something with the pineapple cilantro salsa, its different in that beachy-way. But that's the beauty of Bumstead's, its simple, not touristy, and a relaxing way to be loud, laughable, and full on a small budget. Try this place out if you are around! read more
