Long story below, but TL;DR: these guys are great! It's a rough market out there for off-the-rack women's formalwear, unless you really like sweating it out in polyester. I have wanted a suit for a really long time, but... well. I have DDDs, am generally midsize everywhere else (12-14 size waist) and I'm 5'1" on a good day. Even women's blazers don't fit me. Slacks? Forget about it. I knew that getting custom suit locally was the only way to go--I couldn't find any reviews or pictures of Bunbury's work with women's suiting, but I figured it couldn't hurt to make an appointment. I had never owned or worn a suit before, so I had very little knowledge about what would work for me. Fortunately, at the first fitting, Rohit spent a full two hours patiently explaining different suit cuts, making recommendations on style and fit, and answering my many, many questions. Both the suit coat and waistcoat were absolutely PERFECT at the first fitting, which felt truly insane to me given my lifelong struggles with blazers. We ended up going through a few rounds of alterations on the shirt and pants, in no small part because of my own inexperience--I was discovering my own preferences for suiting as we worked through different options, and a lot of what I want out of a suit was a lot more in line with the conventions of men's formal suiting than women's--but Ro & co. had an insane level of patience and kept reworking everything until it was perfect. And as a total outsider to men's fashion, I never felt anything but safe, welcomed and respected in the Bunbury offices. Oh yeah, and the finished suit is amazing. Comfortable in all kinds of weather, a million hidden pockets, excellent range of motion... I've played a round of capoeira in the full getup without straining a single seam. By all accounts Bunbury is extremely on point with deadlines and alterations tend to be reliably completed within a week. In my case, the owners were hit with a truly Shakespearean tidal wave of once-in-a-lifetime delays beyond their control, and I was happy to slow down our alterations schedule in favor of their wedding clients because I didn't have any pressing deadlines to meet. As a thank-you, Bunbury ended up providing several tailored shirts for free, to the point where I'm honestly a little concerned that I'm tanking their bottom line. I have absolutely made out like a bandit from this experience. And even though I don't really attend formal events often enough to warrant it, I'm making room in my budget for their three for two suit deal in the future. read more

I was very fond of my tailor in Michigan. When I moved to North Carolina the tailor I selected would have big shoes to fill. There are many tailors in the area but Bunbury had good reviews so I decided to get three suits to see how well they did. Rohit was very helpful in helping me select suit fabric, liners, and colors. I expect the process of picking out a suit to be collaborative. For example, selecting patterns and colors that fit my body type and taste. Making suggestions that I have not considered before. When I got the suits back they were ready to go, no additional tailoring was necessary. I was very pleased with the small details in the suit that I had not expected. For example, there was an additional pocket inside the suit jacket specifically for cell phones. The proof is in how you feel about yourself and how others see you. I went to a wedding attended by four of my brothers. They have seen me in custom suits before and rarely mentioned them at all. I learned about Bunbury Custom Clothiers by visiting various websites and reading customer reviews. I went to meet with Raj to purchase a suit and a sport coat. In addition, I decided to purchase 4 shirts. Many of the shirts in my existing wardrobe do not fit well typically because they are full cut. I have an athletic build and was finding it increasingly difficult to purchase a dress suit or sport coat off the rack. The ones I did find often required an inordinate amount of alterations. This became frustrating. Along came Raj to the rescue! I drove to the Raleigh office to meet with Raj. I immediately felt at ease and was ready to go. A few words of wisdom: Don't rush the initial consultation. It is very important for Raj to get to know you and your personal preferences, requests, etc. First, I began with fabric selection. There are a broad array of premier fabrics. I chose the fabric for the suit first and then the sport coat. With the sport coat (only) I wanted to add a custom lining. I struggled to find one that complemented the fabric. Raj sensed that I didn't see anything on the initial page of linings and suggested a fabric lining that was excellent! We then proceeded to the 4 shirts and the fabric selections. Finally, Raj took my measurements to complete the process. The clothing had a promised delivery of 4-5 weeks. I rarely leave a 5-star review for a business I haven't tested repeatedly, but we are so initially impressed with Raj that I can't possibly justify a 4. My fiancé is a small, fit man. He stands 5'2" and usually has to buy clothing in a Youth Large size. This is, as you might imagine, incredibly frustrating and disheartening - as well as impractical, when you're in need of a groom's suit. Raj to the rescue! We had absolutely no trouble getting an appointment; Raj has been responsive and friendly both in person and over the phone. Turnaround time was less than two months (I forget exactly how long). I really have no idea what pricing is reasonable for suits, but we were fortunate enough to have the groom's father paying for the suit, which ended up being around $1500. (We normally wouldn't dream of spending so much on a suit, but he had NONE, and this one he should be able to wear for years and years, to all sorts of events.) The suit fits SO well. Y'all, my man looks GOOD. ;) After ONE session of measurements, the final suit was perfect, no alterations needed. There were lots of great little features, too - a hidden pocket in the waistband, an interior jacket pocket for his iPhone, extra buttons hidden in various places, and darts & extra fabric folded in to allow for alterations in the future should they become necessary. We bought a full 3-piece suit (trousers, vest, and jacket), plus a white button-down, and they look amazing. Raj made sure to inspect each piece as it was tried on, pointing out the features and double-checking to make sure that he was (and we were) satisfied with the end result. I've always wanted to get a custom tailored suit and when the combined opportunity of my (upcoming) wedding and Living Social deal presented itself, I couldn't resist. First off, the level of customer detail Raj gives is unparalleled! From the moment I walked into his office he was sizing me up and told me every problem I've ever had with off-the-rack suits. He nailed 'em all. He worked with me to meet the timeline of my wedding ensuring an early delivery to head off any problems that may arise. When I received the suit, I was shocked at how good it fit me (and how good I looked in it). Simply worth every penny from the beginning. The deal also came with a tailored shirt to match the suit, and that also fit's perfectly. The closest off-the-rack shirt I can compare the fit to is a Brooks Bothers Slim fit shirt. Nice in the shoulders, tapered down torso so it doesn't look like an oversized shirt. Raj is all about customer satisfaction and making sure your happy with the suit and the shirt. I'll have to start budgeting out more money to get tailored shirts and pants from him in the future. This was my first time buying a custom-made suit ever. The tailor's name was Raj and he was extremely informative and nice...the whole process felt like buying a car. I never knew one could customize every little detail of a suit and shirt...the collars, the placket, the cuffs, the pockets, the fabric, the textures, the lining, etc, etc, etc! Raj also pointed out that one of my shoulders was slightly higher than the other and took that into account when measuring. I also opted for a fancier blue color for a suit, but he suggested something more conservative and versatile because he thought it didn't fit my personality or my lifestyle (I agreed!). The right suit for me needed to compliment my personality, not overshadow it. In the end I think the most important thing was the fit and thankfully everything fit well...except for the length of the pants because when I first got fitted I didn't bring the shoes I was going to wear with the suit (*take note to bring your dress shoes with you so the length could be measured properly the 1st time). That's currently being taken cared of right now. ***** All in all a great experience for a first custom-made suit. Yes it's pricey. Yes you'll have to save up. But everyone needs at least one useful suit and if you're going to have just one useful suit, at least make it look fantastic. First impressions go a LONG way. I have waited months to post this review in hopes that Bunbury would try to make things right, but it hasn't happened and I think buyers should be aware of what they're getting into. I reached out to Bunbury about a year ago to have a customer suit made for me. It took several months for my suit to be made which was expected. No worries there. I made it VERY clear that I was paying $1,500+ for a custom bespoke suit because I did not want at skinny fit nor a big, boxy suit that I would find on racks. When I tried on the suit after it was first made, I literally could not walk in it, it was so tight. Bunbury tried to alter it, but after I traveled to the alterations shop multiple times, eventually they had to remake the suit. After going to the alterations shop at least 5 times over 4-5 months, the suit still did not fit well and the son of the owner of Bunbury, as well as the tailor, came across as rude. The son would show up to my fittings in basketball shorts and an undershirt which, call me old fashioned, seems a bit odd for a bespoke clothier. The tailor would make rude comments about how I must have wanted a big, boxy American suit instead of the skin-tight suit they apparently wanted me to wear. Eventually I just gave up. I now have a suit that I still do not like and does not fit me like a bespoke suit. To top it off, the owner said on multiple occasions that they'd make me some shirts to make up for the headaches I experienced, but even after I followed up with them multiple times, they never made me any shirts. They haven't contacted me in 7 months. Save yourself a lot of money, time and headaches. I ended up getting an Indochino suit for literally 1/4 of the price and none of the headaches. I found myself in need of a suit and I am not an off the shelf build. After a littler research, I found Bunbury and I am beyond satisfied with their service and the suit. I went with a black Three piece and it is beautifully crafted. They took the time to place attention into the smallest details. Bunbury went out of their way to help me with different choices and provided examples of cuts, stitching etc and I now have a better eye for a fine suit. I got a suit and 4 shirts stitched from Bunbury Custom Clothiers. Raj offers a broad selection of top notch fabrics that you cannot find elsewhere. The customer service offered by Raj was unparalleled. The suit and shirts showed up within the timeframe that was promised and were of great quality and fit. In terms of receiving the perfect end product you want, I would suggest being very specific about styles and fits with Raj. I prefer the slimmer look on my clothes and so I had to get the trousers reworked 2-3 times and the jacket once. This made the process a bit longer than I would have liked. However, Raj was very accommodating each time and also personally delivered the clothes to my house. I was very pleased with the customer service. Do not fall for this scam!! I did one of the Groupon deals and finished up the "process" a few weeks ago at his little "shop" here in Raleigh. The suit, the shirt, and the cheap tie I got are absolutely the worst things in my work wardrobe. Oh BTW, this is NOTHING like a Bespoke suit or a custom suit made anywhere properly. This is a machine made suit based off some rough measurements Raj takes, then he tries to 'tailor' the crappy suit ones it arrives. First, let me tell you how horrible it is working with Raj. This man is the most condescending person I have ever dealt with and insists that he knows better than you. He has no style himself, he is extremely tacky. He has no concept of how a proper custom suit should fit, and even if you specifically tell him what you want, he will tell you that that is not correct. And his "office" or whatever is a joke. This man is a scam artist trying to take your money. The suit is horrible. Let me break it all down: A) The material used is absolutely bottom grade. Feel one of the FINISHED SUITS (not the little cloth samples) and then go feel a quality suit from Brooks Brothers. You will understand. B) The lining is cheap and terrible, and the buttons are the cheapest plastic buttons possible. OH but Raj can get but something better on your suit if you pay him a ridiculous up-charge. C) The fit is terrible no matter how many times you have him adjust it. The suits are "custom made" by machines in another state based off a few measurements he takes, then he tries to adjust the crap suit once it arrives and fits like garbage. I don't even wear the shirt, it has a crappy stiff shell in it that is HORRIBLE and should never be on a quality shirt. It only looks worse and worse with time. The fabric is awful. Just no. The tie you get is a crappy Bruno Piattelli tie that you can buy for $20-25. But Raj will tell you how high-end it is and how much better quality it is than the tie you wore in. He has a big pile of them, with about 10 obnoxious tacky prints that I am positive he ordered in bulk during some factory sale. He will go on and on about how he has your name stitched inside the suit, and about the cute little "secret pocket" on the pants. It's still junk clothing. Please please please do not waste your hard earned money on this scam! read more

Raj is a nice enough fellow, but in many ways he falsely represents the product that he offers: 1) Raj claimed that his suits are of full canvas construction, but in fact they are fused, which was easy to determine after a quick examination of a suit jacket that he had on hand; 2) Raj initially claimed that his suits are made in Sacramento at his brother's shop, but after he let it slip that he often goes to China on business trips, he eventually admitted to me--after I pressed him on this topic--that the suits and shirts are in fact produced in China, with final adjustments done locally; and 3) Raj advertised at an unbelievable $600 special price for a custom suit and two shirts, but then pulled a bait and swtich and tried to sell to me a suit made with 150s fabric that would have cost nearly $1800. In that price range, there are much higher quality options: for example, MTM programs from Samuelsohn or Hickey Freeman. In his attempt to upgrade the sale, Raj falsely claimed that 150s fabric is much more durable than 100s fabric--generally, this is the opposite of the truth. I suppose that the majority of his clientele are unsuspecting, and even satisfied because the final product fits and looks better than the low quality, off the rack clothing to which they are accustomed. Raj does indeed offer a high degree of customization, although his clients unwittingly purchase a "custom" yet cheaply constructed, Made in China suit. If you seek genuinely high quality, custom clothing, then go to one of the fine, venerable local shops (Liles, Nowell's, and Julian's come to mind) that ethically represent the product that they sell. read more

Sadly, I'm 35 and I just purchased my first suit! I was in a pinch for time, as my wedding was fast approaching, and I had to get a suit! I had luckily gotten a special deal through "Living Social" for a tailored suit for $599.00! I went in to see Raj in his Charlotte, NC office and was measured and schooled in the process of buying the right suit for me. Raj was so friendly to me and my fiancé, and made the whole experience super easy. I needed the suit in 4 weeks! I knew it was asking a lot, but Raj got the job done! I got it with plenty of time to spare, and the suit looks amazing! This is the only way to buy and suit, and I plan to continue doing business with Raj, as he always posts great deals online!!! I found the same groupon mentioned by others, and since I had a wedding coming up decided to take a leap of faith with Raj at Bunbury. The groupon included a suit, tie, and custom tailored shirt. I'm glad I did. First off, be aware that he doesn't work out of a tailor shop, he travels between several cities, and has a small office at each that he will meet with you. He'll have a TON of samples of cloth for your suit, shirt, or sport coat and slacks. He provides the materials that he sources himself to the tailors who make the suit, send it to him, and he works with the local tailors for the finishing details. Like many bespoke brick-and-mortar shops, he has several levels of material that increase in price and quality. If you have the time to spare, I recommend visiting some department stores first and trying on many styles and materials of suit to have a pretty good idea of what you're looking for before you make your appointment with Raj. Bring pictures and whatever else may help you make decisions or help him to figure out what you're looking for, because when you choose a suit material from a small sample of cloth, it's very much like choosing the color you want to paint a room from a small swatch on the wall. Often times the finished product may look much different then how you envisioned with the small sample. Knowing what you want from the start will make the process much easier for both of you. Once you've picked your material, he will then go through a design book with you and you can choose every detail of your shirt, suit, vest, what have you; from the overall fit to the style of pockets. Again, having a good idea of what you like and how it looks on you will make this process smoother. He then takes every single measurement you can possibly imagine to help the suit fit well. As another reviewer mentioned, make sure you are quite specific with what you want the fit to be. Raj is extremely focused on your satisfaction, but he needs to know exactly how you want it to look on you. His advice is based on experience and he has a great eye for detail and fit, but you need to have a solid idea of how you want to look in the suit, because it can be quite expensive and the suit should last a very long time if cared for. He kept working with me until I was completely satisfied with how the suit and vest I bought came out, even changing a few details I had chosen myself, but changed my mind about when I saw it in person. I'll add in one more plug here, do not underestimate the importance of a well tailored dress shirt. You may not think you have any problems with off the rack shirts, and they may be perfectly adequate, but a well-cut and tailored dress shirt is a thing of beauty. I don't have a calvin klein silhouette by any means, but I feel like James Bond in the shirt I got from Raj. Finally, let me just say that though I wasn't quite prepared for what I was getting into at the end I was very happy. Raj is experienced, is quite willing to provide guidance in decisions and explanations of fit, style, and construction, but is also respectful of your choices. So long as there is time to do so he will work with the tailors as many times as necessary to get the final result you want, and is overall kind, courteous, and easy to work with.
