My husband and I went to Charlottesville a few weeks ago with our dogs to go hiking in Shenandoah…read more Thistlerock Mead was our last stop after we had brunch before heading back to Indy. We ordered bread and butter service and got a glass of the piedmont wildflower and a glass of the acacia monofloral to share. All so tasty! We later split a glass of the berry session, but kept it at that since we had such a long drive home. I got one of the art prints from inside and a bottle of the bilbomel (staff recommendation) to add to my best friend's birthday gift, as well as a bottle of bilbomel and a bottle of the acacia monofloral for us. The staff were very friendly and the inside was fairly busy with other customers. Just us and a small family were outside because we each had dogs. They have a big area for you-pick flowers to make your own bouquet and they also had a cute table set up out front with little pumpkins to purchase. We had a lot of fun posing the dogs with the skeletons around the property and they had these cute mushroom stools in a little play area for kids that we got them to pose with, too. It was perfect weather for mid-October and we had a lovely time. The only downside was that the picnic table under a big tree that we first went to sit at was infested with Chinese lantern flies, so we moved closer to the building. They are only open on weekends, but it's such a cute spot with great snacks and drinks. I definitely recommend stopping in if you can and we would love to come back!

The setting is awesome. Antique log cabin with beautiful Mountain View. Kinnfolk, a Celtic duo performed. They were great! A lovely couple who sang a mix of traditional favorites and their own compositions. We wish them all the best and hope to hear them again soon!

Our hosts did everything include printing nearby wineries on our way home to ensure we had the perfect experience. Our room was beautiful, spotless, and had a great reading nook. My favorite part was sitting on the porch at night watching the fire flies dance in the backyard and the beautiful birds flying around in the day. The pool was the perfect size to enjoy a great fresh swim in the mountain air. Our breakfast was a scrumptious three course meal cooked to perfection ton that kept us full all day. This is the perfect romantic getaway.

I would not recommend Prospect Hill Inn as a wedding venue…read more My daughter chose this venue because we were repeatedly told that if we communicated our wishes ahead of time, everything would be handled and we could simply relax and enjoy the wedding day. Unfortunately, our experience was the exact opposite. Upon arrival, we had to carry all of our belongings and wedding items down paths to the cabins ourselves. Although golf carts were available on the property, no assistance was offered. Prior to the wedding, we provided decorations and special charms that were to be attached to my daughter's bouquet in memory of grandparents who had passed away. We were assured that everything would be taken care of. On the morning of the wedding, we were asked when the bouquet was needed and stated 4:00 p.m. for pictures. By 4:15 p.m., we had received no communication. Multiple texts to the owner went unanswered. When I finally reached her by phone, she was not even on the property and said she would not be back for another 30 minutes. The wedding was scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. I ended up locating the bouquet myself. The memorial charms had not been attached, and no one knew where they were. At 5:00 p.m., the owner still had not arrived, and no staff member seemed to know what was happening or what needed to be done. Our family was left coordinating the wedding ourselves. The ceremony was delayed until 5:30 p.m., which affected photography since the photographer was only contracted for a limited amount of time. To make matters worse, when it was time for the couple's first dance, the owner told my daughter that she knew nothing about it, despite it being included in the contract and paid for as part of the package. We were then rushed through photos because dinner was scheduled for 7:00 p.m., even though many of the delays stemmed from the lack of coordination earlier in the day. The owner also interrupted the couple's send-off over a pen issue that could have been handled later. The problems continued throughout our stay. The air conditioning in our cabin failed on the final night, leaving us in uncomfortable temperatures above 80 degrees. When we politely shared our concerns before leaving, hoping for an explanation or apology, none was offered. Instead, responsibility was shifted back onto us. We were also owed a credit on our account. Initially, we were told it could not be refunded because the original card used for booking had been closed. After considerable discussion, a cash refund was finally offered. However, when my daughter picked it up, it was $21 short. We were told this was for breakfast-in-bed delivery for the newlyweds, despite previously being told that this was included in the wedding package. Perhaps most disappointing of all, when the newlyweds checked out, the owner would not speak with them. This was a weekend that should have been focused on celebrating my daughter's wedding. Instead, we spent much of it dealing with issues that we had specifically been assured would be handled by the venue. We left feeling disappointed, stressed, and unsupported.

This assortment had two whites and two reds--all of which earned gold medals at competitions. For lunch, we shared the grilled cheese with apple slices and the Eastwood salad, which included apples, blue cheese, nuts, and mixed greens. All were delightful. The tasting room has a warm vibe of a country gathering place with tables, a bar, and a stage. They also have outside seating. Their fermentation room has a glass wall that looks into the tasting room so you can see the tanks. Eastwood is located not far from Monticello and other wineries in the area. I recommend it as a definite stop on any wine outing.

We walked inside and found a great space that included a bar, ample seating, and a stage, where a singer was getting ready to perform. I decided on the White Reserve Tasting, and was able to swap out the oaky chardonnay for the Woodland White blend. My friend and I got a table outside as the weather was nice. We enjoyed our wine and people (and dog) watching. My favorites were the 2024 Viognier and the Woodland White. The 2024 Petit Manseng was good, but a bit tart, and the Artist White blend was too dry for my liking. This is a great winery that you should visit when in the area, that's both kid and dog friendly.

The husband-and-wife owners, along with their four wonderful boys, are building such a special place here. The property is absolutely stunning: an amazing barn that's ready to host weddings, a sparkling pond with a fountain and gazebo, a vineyard right on-site, a beautiful swimming pool, a cozy fire pit, and breathtaking mountain views in every direction. There's so much to do--wineries, breweries, and incredible restaurants are just 15 to 20 minutes away in any direction, along with antique shops to explore. Or you can stay put and relax: enjoy a private breakfast on the front porch, book an in-room massage, or have a romantic dinner under the old oak tree in the backyard. And the breakfast? Out of this world. The wife is an incredible cook--you'll wake up to something better than you could imagine every morning. Whether you're looking for a quiet escape, planning a wedding, or just want to enjoy Virginia wine country, The Orchard House B&B is absolute perfection. Highly recommend!

We were also told the owner/event manager would be on hand for help the day of. She seemed to forget who I was after meeting with me multiple times, but no biggie. I'm sure she meets lots of people. What was really not okay was that when we showed up to set up our event, the area was NOT cleaned and there was nobody to be found. There was dust and dirt everywhere that took an hour to clean before even being able to set up, a gross dead bug graveyard in the sitting area floor, it smelled musty, and overall was just not up to the standard they advertised. The owner nor any staff showed up at any point. We were not greeted, we were not helped, and it was just kind of a "okay good luck" situation. Also, the "AC" was on 75 on a hot May day. After paying the second half of the $550 fee, I didn't hear from the event manager other than a text asking what time I'd be in. Afterwards, nobody checked on us or the space. Never even heard from them to get a "thank you for renting our space" or "I'm sorry I wasn't available today"... To pay $550, you'd expect to get what you pay for. As a local, I will NOT be renting there for any other party I host nor trying out their B&B if the service is anything like this experience has been. Next time, we'll pay $550 for a nicer place on 151.
