Stopped on a whim looking for dinner passing thru. Easy on/off the freeway and not hard to find using GPS but cannot see it from the main road. We were seated quickly and they asked our seating preference. Waitress was very nice and quick Food runner gal was nasty. Very curt. So much so I was dumbfounded when she dropped my salad. She did it again when she brought the rest. I ordered half a pound of peel n eat shrimp with small house salad with house dressing which was a sun dried tomato vinaigrette. Hubs had large RBG salad with thousand island. Dressings were blah the ranch replacement was fine Salads were fresh and large even for a small Peel n Eat shrimp should have been called peel n eat shrimp paste. I've been to Rhett's quite a few times over a couple of years and at different times of the year. I have never been disappointed in any of the food or beverages I've received! Had heard good things about Rhett's from a neighbor, so decided to give it a try. I'm going to guess (maybe hope) that they were understaffed that day, because service was pretty average. On the other hand, the food and atmosphere were very good. My wife had a salad with herb chicken, and she-crab soup. I had the RBG burger with coleslaw. A Bavarian pretzel for an appetizer, and key lime pie for dessert. Everything was really good, except for the pie. I would say it was just okay. Had a late lunch here. Crab cakes with some switching up of the sides. Portion size is generous and drinks refilled often. I have to say that I drive through this area every Sunday and this is the first time I've ever stopped after making the requisite visit to the Starbucks within walking distance. Solid seafood, comfortable booth seating, and the menu is large but not distractingly so. Go if you like southern seafood and pub food. Drinks menu is extensive. If the menu is too big to decide with, just make quadrants and select. Sandwich? Entree? Mix and match? If you are going with someone who can never make up their mind, leave them with the menu, walk over to Walmart and review the TV selection and come back. Decided to come here for dinner around 530/6, we were immediately sat with no wait. Our server was very nice and prompt. For appetizers we got the bang bang shrimp and wings, both were Very good. The shrimps were nice and crispy and didn't get soggy with the sauce. The wings were fried well, which I like. For the wings, we got the sauce on the side so we could dip, I personally don't like them tossed. For dinner I got the ribeye special, which was probably not worth the $55 they charged for it. I do like that it's sourced from local farms but the flavor was lacking. They covered it in grilled onions and put a scoop of herb butter on it. The meat itself was tender, just lacking flavor. My husband got a steak n cheese hoagy, no complaints from him on that. It looks like your average restaurant, nothing about the decor or "feel" really stood out. I'd go back. Fine for the family. We have been there twice, once we were seated in the bar area at a table, and once in the dining area at a booth. The menu is large so there are lots of options. I find it too big with too much spread, making it hard to decide and guess the restaurants strengths. They have a good beer list. I had a po boy the first time we went and I enjoyed it, the next time I had fried oysters and they were decent, not the best or most memorable oysters. Rhetts is a fun option with some decent seafood for rural central Virginia, and it's convenient to our home, so I bet we'll be back. read more

Husband and I were in the area and stumbled upon Rhett's. What a pleasant surprise. I had the crab cake sandwich with a side salad. The cilantro aioli was sublime and a perfect addition to my meal. My dad and I walked in on a Thursday evening around, happy hour, and we sat at the bar. Bartenders were super friendly as were the hostesses when we walked in. The people at the bar were super friendly and everyone seem to join in everyone's conversation and it's definitely a neighborhood bar and restaurant. We started off with the Carolina crab dip with tortilla chips. It was delicious. It had lumps of crab in it great flavor and after we ate that we almost did not even order dinner. We were so full. My father ordered a burger that was huge cooked perfectly to order and very well seasoned.(I didn't get a picture) I got the tacos with Ahi Tuna and I was asked how I liked my tuna cooked that's very nice! I asked for medium rare and it was perfectly cooked. The tacos have rice in them tomatoes onions, and cheese, but the Star is the garlic aïoli. It was amazing I could drink it... They should bottle that stuff and sell it. The tacos were huge next time I will not be getting the appetizer so I can eat both tacos, but I took a taco home. This is actually our 2nd visit where we were disappointed but thought we would try it again. THE MICROAGGRESSIONS at this place were off the charts. I recently visited and did not feel welcomed at all. I arrived at a reasonable time for my reservation, and upon arrival, we went to the hostess station to check in. The host immediately looked at us with a smug expression. As I was telling him my name, which starts with an "I," he pointed to another stereotypical Black name and asked if that was it. My guests and I were shocked and in disbelief. After repeatedly stating that my name starts with an "I," I could not believe he made that assumption. I would never come back here again if this is how you continue to treat guests of color. My husband and I sat at the bar for drinks and dinner on a busy Friday night. We made it in time for happy hour ($3 rail drinks but no food specials). The bartenders were great (Dan and Tara) and gave us recommendations for dinner & apps. We started with oysters on the half shell and some incredible RBG oysters (baked with garlic butter and Parmesan)- we gobbled them down before I remembered to take a picture. The she crab soup was good, maybe a little too thick but good. I ordered Alabama chicken sandwich (fried chicken breast, bacon, pepper jack, pickles, mayo, white sauce, ciabatta) with a side salad and my husband had wings with bbq and Buffalo sauces over all the wings. They were excellent. The sandwich was pretty good but the bread overwhelmed the think chicken cutlet. We will definitely go back and check out some of the seafood options. This place is a consistent let down. I ordered fish and shrimp tacos along with calamari. The calamari was cold and gross, the tacos had the nastiest rice all clumped up in it. I've never had an issue with the staff but for $49 I was expecting something better than Walmart tortillas and 3 shrimp per taco. I do not recommend this restaurant. Unexpected experience far from the ocean! Found Rhett's looking for restaurants near Zions Crossroads, VA. Very impressive menu, with many seafood offerings. We and another couple ordered salads and a large seafood platter, thinking that there would be leftovers for later. The salads were fresh with crisp greens. The platters were unbelievable: Oysters (four ways), shrimp, calamari. All four of us are seasoned travelers and coastal is our vibe. We were amazed and delighted with our food, the quality and prep. Rhett's bar and grill is average and has room for improvement. The best menu items are the sweet potato fries and the peel and eat shrimp, above average bar food. The service is just OK, Keyanna is our local favorite that we followed to Rhett's after she left another local bar. Rhett's prices are on the high side. The worst menu item I have had is the ribs. They were so tough and overcooked. When I do go to Rhett's it is for the beer and the socialization. If the food improves and they add karoke or live music this could be a happening place to relax and unwind. read more
