Pulled Pork requires achieving a great bark & a deep smoke ring without drying out the meat. Nailed it! I don't eat the bun, so no comment on that aspect of the "sandwich" - only judging the meat. It was extremely tender without an overabundance of fat. I added the Carolina sauce which, while thin, was fabulously flavored. Speaking of fat, the beans were chock-full of meat, not just pork fat. They were perhaps a bit over-soft from the warmer & sweeter than I'd normally like, however, they were still quite tasty and super thick... stick to the fork thick! The slaw was traditional - crunchy cabbage and carrots in a thin mayo based sauce. The small menu has been addressed repeatedly, but I'll say it again: regular fare is pulled pork or all beef hotdog - special of the day can be chicken, brisket or ribs. I like the simplicity of it. I am the road trip meal manager for our trip from Chicago to Mount Rushmore and we needed a lunch option post Devils Tower but pre spearfish waterfalls, and this bbq does not disappoint. My nephew mentioned wanting bbq yesterday so I scanned the areas probably from at least Wall, SD and this seemed like the solution. Pulled pork was juicy and a show stopper. If you can handle a bit of the heat go for the Bourbon hot one. It's not too hot and way more unique. I regret not trying the coleslaw, may have been a wow factor. While on the road I make it a point to stop at various BBQ places across the country. Granted, SD isn't know for bbq, but this place had good reviews and seemed like the only real option for bbq. I figured I'd try it. I was disappointed to say the least. I don't care about the small menu, that's ok. Actually I prefer a small menu because that means (generally) you make a couple of things really well. It was the food failure I can get over. In my group I ordered the brisket. Brisket is supposed to melt in your mouth and not be chewy. I took a bite and it was like chewing on boot leather. I finally gave up and just swallowed it. I tried another bite and forced it down. It wasn't any better. This was my lunch so I opened up the sandwich and cut up the brisket so I could eat it. I decided shortly thereafter, I just didn't want it anymore. So I ate half my wife's pulled pork sandwich. That was ok. The beans were ok, nothing great and over cooked. They were more the consistency of retried beans than baked beans but the flavor was alright. Lastly the coleslaw. Didn't like it. Tasted like a vinegar based slaw. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't good either. My advice, if you're looking for good bbq stay away from this place. If you have to eat there.. it's not terrible but stay away from the brisket and get the pulled pork. It's hard to ruin that. read more

Why are we the only ones there on a Friday night? Seriously excellent huge pulled pork sandwich with two sides for $11? Moist meat that didn't need sauce but the three sauces were tasty. The hot was reasonably spicy, the regular was very tasty, but the mustard based sauce was the start of the show. Coleslaw was ok but beans were very good. The place is a bit of a dive, which to me bodes well for good BBQ! They had three offerings when we showed up, pulled pork, brisket, and smoked hot dog. We got the brisket and pulled pork, both came with cole slaw and beans. Seriously, this stuff is the best smoked meat I have had in years! It wasn't the nearby wildfire that gave their pulled pork it's delicious flavor. These guys know what they're doing. I was kinda heartbroken that they're only doing brisket on weekends now and my timing was off. But the friendly, helpful guy behind the counter offered me a sample of pulled pork and it was a done deal. Three great sauce options too (hot or mild, plus a really good Carolina mustard sauce).
