Best food we had in Deadwood. Prices were fair and the trashcan nachos were awesome! Wide variety of food for our big group

I don't think that Deadwood is a great place for food. We had 3 very unremarkable dinners in the town. When we went to Dale's, I had thought the streak would end, but no. Another very average meal in an understaffed restaurant. We arrived, and there was no one to greet us at the hostess station. I had to go to the back to the restaurant to alert them that there was now a queue of people waiting to be seated (others arrived after us). Our waitress was very nice. I think she was the only person for the whole restaurant. Thankfully we weren't in a rush, but service was slow. We ordered a couple beers and sodas for the kids. One of the beers was not available, so I switched up my order. The beers were locally made and pretty unremarkable. We started with the game sausage sampler. They were fine but not great. Then my kids had their kids meals, and I had the game burger, and my husband had a regular cheeseburger. I thought the game burger was fine, although I couldn't really tell that it was made of any meat other than beef. So not gamy, but not really remarkable either? This is a sports bar in a casino. This place was super "meh".... we were starving after driving a long, long way into Deadwood and had just checked into the hotel, which took forever (the idiots at Deadwood Grand messed up our booking and it took at least another 20-25 minutes to fix it)... we just decided to eat here. We saw some pics on Yelp that looked like steak and chicken, looked good. We got the menu and the first thing I said was "Where is the steak?!?" Apparently they only serve burgers and sandwiches now?? Anyway I ordered a burger with marinara sauce and mushrooms. It was just alright. VERY overpriced for what you get. The beer was decent though, and the place looked nice inside. Unless you're starving or don't want to drive outside the hotel, avoid this place. read more

After looking online for a close breakfast joint we decided on the 6 String due to the Rock n Roll theme. Upon entering we noticed all of the guitar's hanging on the walls and the large mural of a Big and Rich quote so we were looking forward to a fun atmosphere. While standing in line to be seated one of the servers seemed to be bothered and didn't greet us or say hello she just said 2, we said yes then she just went over and put 2 menus on the table and walked away. Once we got a server she wasn't too thrilled to see us either, we considered walking out but decided to stay. We had the ham & cheese omelets which were very good and the prices were fair. All in all its a neat atmosphere with good food but the service was quite poor, hence the 3 stars. read more

Great Greek salad!! We had lunch at Dale's during the off-season. Immediate seating, friendly service. The Greek salad is huge. Let me tell you, they don't skimp on the ingredients. Lots of feta and kalamata olives. Delish. Arriving at the Mt. Grand on foot is a bit odd, but don't be off put, Dales is just inside the main entrance. read more

The staff and food were wonderful! We ordered breakfast and it was brought out quickly, my pancakes were to die for and the music memorabilia kept us entertained. Very friendly wait staff, I will eat here again next tim I'm in Deadwood. read more

The food was okay hut the service was horrendous! Our server didn't even bring glasses if water. There were three waitresses and one seater/busser....I couldn't call him a manager because all he did was seat people. Our Group was large so we subdivided into 3 tables in 2 sections...the last of our group that was seated was first and best served. We waited for everything! Our water, our 2 glasses of wine...which were not correct..our appetizer. The side salads came with our food and 1/2 of the orders were correct. Four family members left as they had not been served, and they had young children who were hungry. It was a very disappointing experience overall, and we will not return. read more

Talking to a dealer at the Lodge Casino, he mentioned how great the burger was at Six String and how it was mix of Elk and Buffalo. I am immediately started drooling and that was what I knew that was what I was going to get for lunch! They called at the Dakota Game Burger. The meal was $16, but the plate was huge, and they give you so much fries you can share the meal easily as long as you are not starving and can eat 1lb of food by yourself. The staff was friendly and was wearing masks. However, the burger did not have any apparent bison flavor I could taste. It tasted like regular beef, but at least they cooked it medium rare per my request. The fries were excellent though, they were super crispy and cooked well! They have bone-in bison ribeye for dinner, and perhaps I'll have to try that next time! read more

There were 2 tables other than us when we ordered. We waited over 30 minutes and watched about 6 other tables who had been seated after us get their food before us. I ordered mahi Mahi blackened with rice and vegetable and husband ordered a bacon Gouda pork chop. When we received our food both dishes were cold. We asked to please not microwave and they said it would be prepared fresh, within 3 minutes we were eating our food that was microwaved. The food had great flavor so we didn't complain. We stayed at the resort, so our first dinner was at Six String. I had the meathead pizza and my wife had the steak tips. The pizza was very good and I would recommend it to anyone. The steak tips were also good. We ended up eating all of our evening meals at Six String because every place else that we wanted to try in Deadwood was booked solid. No complaints though, the menu varied from night to night so you had choices of different things to try. All the food was very good, the breakfast was ok, on par with your typical buffet, but was always a good morning start. I'd recommend eating there again. read more

Our first time visiting South Dakota let alone Deadwood and had a wonderful experience. We stayed at Deadwood Mountain Grand for three nights and decided to check out Six String on the second day of my stay. We were greeted by a friendly face at Six String (sorry I can't recall her name) and was then greeted by our server Justin. Justin was outstanding, he helped my wife and I with any any questions we had about the menu. From the beginning to the end, I was beyond satisfied with the service and enjoyed the food. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone vising Deadwood and make sure to ask to get served by Justin. We will be back in August and we can't wait to visit the restaurant and Justin. read more

I don't even know where to begin! We ordered the ravioli and didn't even get it but got charged for it! The pork chop is SUPER small! And the steak is super cheap and terrible!! My family and I went here for Christmas dinner. First time I've been to six strings but not my first time in Deadwood. I had the steak and shrimp. The shrimp was good. My steak on the other hand, no. I was about half way done with it when I took a bite and the taste was so horrible I had to spit it out. I smelled the rest of the steak and it smelled like it had been sitting in the trash for a week. I didn't finish it. I also didn't say anything to my server. I didn't want to ruin Christmas. Well I have been sick for the past six hours. I got sick about the time I got home from there and I have been sick the rest of the day. My wife had the ham and she is sick as well. I will not eat here again and will tell everyone I know not to eat here. read more

Alfredo highly touted had a uniquely bland taste and the recommended rib tips were tough, all sandwiches appear to be generic package meats and Caesar salad again appeared to be package mix. Nice place, loud waitstaff, the food is MEH. I had the game burger and fries. It was cooked perfectly but the fries and condiments were restaurant supplier grade. It's a lost opportunity to create a better food experience. My wife had a gyro falafel which she rated as a 3 also. It looked good and she ate the entire meal, I finished 70% of mine prior to quitting from lack of flavor. I recommend ditching the restaurant supplies and using a local grocery story and cutting you own stuff. I also recommend creating you own French fries and pickling an original pickle to add in a distinct flavor profile to this menu. Good luck! read more

A must stop anytime we're in Deadwood. The elk steak is always an excellent choice and is always cooked to perfection (as is everything else as well). Great overall menu with a fun atmosphere that I would recommend for anyone heading out for dinner in Deadwood. We've always had very good service as well, overall a wonderful place to eat. read more
