Cannot say enough about Hotel Frederick and its charm as an I renovated, but updated, hotel! What…read moredoes that mean? As soon as you walk in the lobby of the Fredrick, you feel transferred back to and earlier, more classic but simple time. The decoration and old school/original design of the hotel really captured this clients' fascination. I am a sucker for classics! That said, the hotel DOES have all the amenities most other hotels have, including a restaurant, live music on the weekends and a coffee by day, alcohol bar by night! Located right no the Missouri River in Boonville, this hotel is a must stay for any traveler! I will definitely e back!!

Okay, so many things to say about this place. I totally enjoyed myself, but openly admit that this…read moreplace is not for everyone. If you want a hotel for just the sake of having somewhere to sleep, this might not be the place for you. It is very convenient to the Katy Trail and Main Street Boonville, but it's not a chain place, and it's a little more expensive. The place was built in 1905, and it must've been nice for a town this size then. Judging from the makeup of room 6, it looks like they combined two rooms to make the one and then added the bathrooms (rooms in older hotels were tiny by modern standards and often had shared bathrooms). I'm sure they did that to all the rooms. It must've been very pricy to renovate this place. There's little touches that give this place character. A mix of modern and antique which yes, if you're not in the right mindset, you might not like at all. Myself, I loved the old style wooden blinds, thought the bed was comfy, and enjoyed the very effective a/c in my room after a hot day. The main things to give people pause will be a slight mustiness (think old library), creaky wooden floors, small TVs, and inconsistent hot water. One night I just couldn't get it hot and the next, it was as hot as a modern house. Oh, and one bit of advice when picking the rooms. Think carefully about whether you want a shower or a bath, as it looks like the ones with the jacuzzi tubs do not have shower heads, so it's a bath or nothing. As for the staff, they were all pleasant enough, but they didn't give the kinda spiel about all the options that you get from a lot of places. What would probably be better (and this could be a Covid thing preventing it) would be a little pamphlet or plastic card detailing what is where, maybe a menu for the restaurant posted, just little things like that. I don't usually bother with hotel breakfasts, but detailing that would be a good thing to put on a pamphlet as well. You could even point out the little shops or restaurants around town there, which I'm sure would save the front desk some work as well. Regardless, if I come back this way, I will happily stay here again. You just don't see a lot of places like this anywhere.

This Hotel might make it to where it would be hard to stay anywhere else! The area is definitely attractive. (Restaurants, shopping ease of getting on the highway) Thank you for being available to experience a successful vacation. The maintenance/cleaning staff looked to have been part time carnival workers. The front desk staff not much better. They lacked in customer service skills at check-in and check-out. The hotel is being renovated and the 3rd floor is currently closed for renovations. They have signs posted apologizing for extra noise between 8a and 6p - no water from 11a to 3p. They never mentioned the renovations when we made our reservation. Our room obviously hasn't been renovated yet. The chair cushion was badly stained. The bath mat was damp - appeared to be clean but maybe wasn't in the dryer long enough. Cable for the TV was stretched across the ceiling (looks like a temporary fix). And, when we checked in, the guy at the desk told us the TV in our room was a little quirky and that we should call him if we couldn't get it to work. No sweat - we weren't planning to watch TV. Expected a bit more for $200 a night.

Also makes the room extremely dry, so don't forget chapstick! Their bathroom has decent body lotion which I had to use alot of. Nice to see they're using refillable soap/shampoo/conditioner/lotion bottles instead of travel size disposables. Bed was ok for 1 night. Bathroom needs more than just 2 tiny nubs on the back of the door to hang anything -- 2 towels could barely hang there, and no place to put clothing except on floor or wet counter. For more than 1 person in the room needing privacy, this makes changing more challenging. Breakfast was mediocre. Scrambled eggs had run out by the time we arrived just after 8:30 AM -- since they don't close until 9:30 AM they should've been refilling. The pork sausage sticks casing was tough; I didn't try the turkey sausage patty but son did and said it was just ok. Make your own pancakes were bleh. Highlight of hot food was Cinnamon rolls. Orange Juice seemed diluted, or just low quality. Boiled eggs in fridge were poorly peeled (missing white parts). Raisin bran cereal was a bit stale -- probably not a lot of people take it so it has been sitting around too long. Glad we booked on Priceline for a low rate.

We were able to hang out downstairs in the breakfast area that evening. It was nice to be able to catch up and watch for other family members to show up. I love the decor of the lobby and the staff were pretty helpful and friendly. There's a bowl of apples and water available when you check in. They have a small fitness center that has a refillable water station. This place has an indoor pool and jacuzzi (separate areas). They only had 2 Queens available instead of a King but that was okay. The room and hotel common areas were clean. The air conditioner works great. Water pressure was good and it got hot fast. Our room had a small refrigerator and microwave. It had a desk, full length mirror and luggage shelf. Beds and pillows were comfortable. Breakfast was good. They have scrambled eggs, omelettes and hard boiled eggs. The oatmeal had 11 different toppings (the most I've seen at any hotel we've stayed at). Other offerings: biscuits and gravy. Bagels, bread and English muffins to toast. Mini muffins, bananas, yogurt, milk, orange juice and apple juice. Waffle station. The only thing they didn't have was sausage or bacon. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Plenty of clean towels and we appreciated the liquid hand wash (rather than the wrapped bar of dry soap), and plenty of lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash was provided. We were there with our dog and I love that the door to go outside has a giant window beside it so you can see if someone else with a dog is coming and can give them space to pass. Plenty of close grassy areas for your dog to go potty, as well as grassy areas a bit further away for more privacy. Also I love that the dog rooms were all on the first floor. The front desk staff were so friendly and professional. Our keycard wasn't working at first and before we even asked for another one, he already had 2 more for us! The breakfast was impressive- there was REAL bacon, mini cheese omelets, tater tots, delicious fresh waffles, and a variety of juices and other baked goods. Also, oatmeal with toppings. There were also a variety of condiments and spreads to choose from. In our room, we were surprised to have a Keurig with good-quality K-cups, Green Mountain brand. Our room was so quiet and we could not hear any talking from other rooms, except doors closing but it wasn't as loud as it usually is when we've stayed at other hotels. There is a Wal-Mart that is walking distance from the hotel which was very convenient. We would definitely stay at this specific hotel again next time we are passing through!

But once you get to know the people and history, you find the heart of a town that is so warm, kind and real. We love the vibe of this Iron Horse Hotel. It's so charming, unique, historic and is a one-of-a-kind find. Nichole was so friendly and helpful and puts a lot of love and care into this hotel. It's not your typical hotel--it's truly a unique old-town experience. The ceilings are high, the furniture is antique and the details are divine. Other than an occasional train (which is part of the history) it's so quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed our stay and if we are ever in the area again, we'd definitely stay here! After having dinner with friends in Columbia, we came back expecting to just chill at the Iron Horse but stumbled across a fun group at Dapper Daq. We had so much fun with them! In the morning when we checked out, we visited Christina's for breakfast and she made a wonderful spread. We left Blackwater feeling like we escaped the rush of highways, business chains and everyday life. Disclosure: there is no tv or shower--only a claw-foot bathtub. There are no dinner restaurants or gas stations. None of this bothered us. It added to the whole experience! I treated myself to a long bath and enjoyed the quiet (no tv, no car traffic, etc).
