I actually like the food from here. So far we have only ordered to go. The only thing that we do not appreciate is the to go people instantly adding 20% tip to our bill. We do understand tipping and I am actually a generous tipper. But, I do not appreciate the workers deciding for us. Especially for to go orders. I am more generous when I am not being told what to tip. I know not everyone is the same. But please change this. It's kind of rude. It has been awhile since the last time we were here and I forgot how good the food is. We started with fried calamari, Cesar salad, mixed green salad and one of the best lemon drops that I have ever had. So delicious. We then split a pizza filled with vegis and sausage. Regardless, Alex was exceptional as our server and the kitchen was putting out the food with good timing and all meals were excellent. Went here for my dad's birthday and was a great traditional Italian meal experience with cloth napkin class. The ambience is formal but they were also very accommodating of my dad in his wheelchair in setting up the table to work for us, as a large group of family for my Dad's 91 year old birthday. He had a pizza and loved it, everyone enjoyed their meals and the desserts were especially good, the drinks were quality and overall experience top notch. Not pictured: the amazing cheesy garlic bread that is a must. We hosted our staff holiday party here (a party of 8) and all of us enjoyed our food and left feeling stuffed. I do wish the salad would have come with more croutons. They have an extensive menu ranging from pastas, to main entrees that have chicken, beef, sausage, or lamb, and also soups and salads. The food portions are filling, full of seasoning, and fresh ingredients. They also have an variety of wines that you can purchase by glass or bottle. The only thing is that due to their location there isnt much parking readily accesible. They have a small lot but it only fits about 12 cars. There is a lot around the corner but that seems to service the other restaurants in the neighborhood. read more

It is so safe to say that this is my mom's and I's favorite Italian place. The service is always super attentive and when it's not as busy they have conversations with you. When they're busy though they are on their game! The food is my favorite and very authentic. My mom always gets the veal and I always get the bistechina alla griglia (rib eye). Sooo good and flavorful. I always love the limone ravioli (not pictured). Also we have had a dinner service here and they are amazing for events. Everyone was pretty out of it from crying, drunk... and or both. The service is always friendly and prompt, the food is always very good to great and the prices are reasonable (especially now when everything has gotten so expensive). They always have several specials and those have been excellent as well. And their wine list, while not extensive, generally has something of value from Italy. read more

The sauce of sauces! My GF ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and can I just say, WOW! The sauce was out of this world good! It was flavorful, buttery, not to heavy.. It left my mouth wanting more and more! I will be ordering this dish next time! I ordered the braised lamb and polenta! It was good! The meat was tender, and the polenta fluffy.. Food was okay, pasta was 7/10 its too much sauce on it and less seafood on it. Calamari was 8/10, taste good but serving was really small for the price. Pizza was 5/10, I wouldn't order it again. Husband got the pasta meatballs it was 6/10 it's too much sauce on it that it looks like a soup already. We didn't finished the meal. Service was good, checked us 3x. I can't believe I haven't been back here in over 11 years but we were looking for a good Italian place and this place has been here for eons and I remember the Linguine Ai Frutti Di Mare and I ordered it again and it was delicious! I don't know of too many places that serve this. We came here for a belated Mother's and Father's Day dinner with our family and my daughter made the reservations. There's a parking lot for the restaurant but only one way to go in and one way to go out. We ordered the calamari fritti, carpaccio di salmon affumicato, Insalata Buon Appetito and. split them among 6 of us. Bread is served with a tomato like pesto sauce. We ordered the Pesce alla piccata (red snapper piccata), linguine ai frutti di mare, pizza con salsicce, osso buco di agnello (lamb shank), linguine pescatore with shrimp, and for dessert we shared tiramisu and spumoni! First time here and fortunately they have a small parking lot which was convenient. There were only about 3 other groups there when we got there and it just felt run down. The table we got seated at was right next to the sun so all of our silverware was warmed. They closed the curtains but the curtains were covered in food stains and there was also a butterfly that kept flying around and flies so it was not enjoyable. Water was never refilled but bread was served with a tasty sauce. I ordered the pesto fettuccine and subbed the shrimp for chicken and the noodles were extremely over cooked. The flavor of the sauce was good but the noodles were too soft and kept falling apart and stuck together. We were going to order dessert but no one ever came back to take our dessert order so we just ended up paying the bill and leaving. Not sure if I will be back any time soon. read more

I pass this place like twice a week. Today I was very hungry and pasta sound really good. I was going to order online but decided to go in and just check it out. I can't remember the name of the pasta I ordered but it was shells with chicken broccoli roasted garlic and dried tomatoes. A bomb creamy sauce. OMG it was so delicious. A really nice bar. I wanted to sit down and have me a glass of wine but I was on my lunch break. This spot kind of reminds me of Paradiso but a little more classier. The host were very welcoming and helpful being my first time there. Good customer service is everything to me. I was reading that they have a space for parties. A cute little restaurant in downtown Hayward. Definitely feels old school Italian and the menu reflects it. We went here for dinner on a Sunday night and ordered the fried calamari - perfectly crisp, but maybe a bit oily, served with a tartar sauce and a tomato based sauce. Sauces were rather bland, but the calamari made up for it. They served complimentary bread with a spread which was a nice touch. Got the veal scallopini, fettuccine with clams, mussels, calamari & shrimp in pesto sauce and then penne ala vodka. Both pasta dishes were extremely creamy, which prompted the old school food vibe. The service was decent, with prompt bussers to clear the table, once even when we were still eating, but I appreciate their enthusiasm. Our server was good, except for a time when we asked for the dessert menu and they went missing for a bit and then went missing again until we got a busser to send them over. Needless to say, by then, we decided against getting any dessert and just wanted to get back. Fresh ingredients, they make their own pasta. It was a tad too "saucy" but very fresh and hot when served. Good flavor but I took my leftovers home and added pasta, that's how much sauce it was. The calamari was perfectly seasoned and perfectly fried. Light and crisp YUM! My friend had ravioli, she didn't say one way or the other so I'm not sure how it was. The patio dining is nice EXCEPT for the loud massive traffic sounds on A street. You can hear live band playing from the nearby Turf club patio before 10pm on Saturdays. The food at Buon Appetito is delicious and reasonably priced, and the service is very good. The restaurant has adjacent, off-street parking, is open all day from lunch to dinnertime, has a full bar, and TVs in the bar have sports on without sound, which suits both my husband and me. On our latest visit, the three of us ordered Chicken Marsala, pizza and a Caesar salad, and calamari piccata. Everything was prepared perfectly. Portions are on the large side, wine is fairly priced and bottles are a deal here. My husband ate the entire bread plate with the tomato spread. Buon Appetito is a go-to for us, whether it's a night out, a late lunch/early dinner, or a special event. Staff are very accommodating and we always leave satisfied. It is a far better value than Paradiso in San Leandro. Taking off one star for the unfortunate traffic noise/view. The restaurant is on a busy street and when the curtains are open in the dining room or you are seated on the deck, lanes of traffic whizzing by or cars idling are not relaxing. The pulsing beats of drivers' sound systems are disconcerting, and if the weather is fair, the doors to the otherwise pleasant deck are open and the noise rings throughout the restaurant. These factors detract from the otherwise delightful meals we've enjoyed at Buon Appetito, but we will remain faithful customers. Salut! read more

I've passed this place multiple times over the years but never had the chance to visit. Place is always popular and bustling with diners, decided to give it a try and was not disappointed. Been coming to this place since it opened. The food is good and the prices still decent. The servers are great, especially Ronald! It's a little dated as far as the interior. I go for the food and the fact that you can still sit and relax without feeling like you're being rushed. The salmon picata, gorgonzola gnocchi, chicken milanese, chicken Pacino and prawn pasta are my favorites. They're so delicious, I stick to them. Definitely showing its age. But I'm still a fan for the most part as you just can't beat the value here, for what is still decent Italian-ish digs. But I also think that they lost some key people due to the pandemic era or simply the exiting of many people from the restaurant industry in general. The menu seems untouched, even though I haven't been in since pre-pandemic like 2018 or so. Most of the dishes seem similar, but it also seems to lack some finesse that used to be there. The sauces from back in the day, seemed to have a certain lightness to them, yet maintaining a good wallop of flavor. It really separated them from the pack. Now not so much. Seems more like the pack. Seems more geared towards bigger portions, whereas back in the day, it had more of a fine dining edge. Their tomato spread/dip that comes with their bread service was my first inkling that things were a bit different. It used to be intense but balanced. Now it seems a bit more muted. Still alright, but didn't wow me like it once did. Braised Lamb Shank ($23/3.5*) Still a decent plate/portion. The lamb shank was properly braised as you could take it apart with a fork. But it arrived kinda lukewarm, so it didn't have that meltingly tender texture. Then the polenta that came with was too stiff, needed more moisture to loosen up the texture. It was starting to clump up. The sauce/gravy also seemed more flat. Good tomato flavor but lacked that deep meaty flavor that comes from a long braise. Also needed a veggie component to brighten up the plate. Just seemed to lack that Chef-y touch that I seemed to have remembered. Apple Torte with Zabaglione ($7-$8ish/4*) Pretty decent torte, with a tender crust and an apple filling that wasn't too sweet. The zabaglione is an italian custard sauce usually made with Marsala wine. The custard here was firm and solid, where often I usually see it more soft or a sauce like consistency. So you kinda just spread it on your torte. Never seen that before, but it wasn't bad. They also give so little of it, that I was unable to pick up any wine flavor. The cocktails are still pretty value oriented for a restaurant of this level. Back in 2010 you could get a Ketel Martini for like $6 bucks, which was mind blowing. Now it is at least $8, still a good deal, just adjusting with the times. Corkage for wine is $12 and is still why I'm kinda loyal to this place. Service also seemed to have dipped a bit. Seems more like a younger crew, with less fine dining experience. So like servers from a chain like Chilis, just with a nicer bistro uniform. Lol. They are nice and efficient, just a bit rough around the edges. I'll still support them though. Even though things seemed to have slipped a bit from these tough times, none have been deal breakers. The good value that is still to be had here, is solid enough of a reason for me. read more

The best Italian restaurant in the area! I have been coming here since I was in high school. The food and the service is amazing. I love stopping by when I have the chance to. A lot of friendly faces here as I grew up in the area. I remember my friends from high school and college working here so I always felt at home and comfortable dining here. The ambiance is very relax and they dim the lights so you really feel like you are having a candle light dinner. Very cute date spot if you want to have a first or second date.
