I think this is the pizza giulia 10/10
    Halle J.

I don't even like Italian pizza that much (a sin, I know) but I did really enjoy the pizza giulia here. The free fresh bread was also delicious and my friend had a huge salad she enjoyed. Service was fast and friendly and I liked that they had outdoor seating!

We've had dozens of excellent meals here over the years and last weekend was no different! I highly recommend reservations. We always get the same things: Fatorre salad, eggplant tortino, and two pizzas. The pizza special with mushrooms and sausage was delicious. The tiramisu is worth ordering as well.

Service is always so good here. Everyone is so friendly. I love the covered patio seating...very nice. I wish the chairs were better though. I had the Diana and beet salad. Both very good (unfortunately, they do not make good leftovers though ) I was really looking forward to the chocolate mousse, but they changed it. Used to be rich and decadent...seems to be more cheaply made now...and not sure about the middle part. Wish they had the old version back.

I can't believe I hadn't been here before as this gem place is in my neighborhood. My friends are all familiar with it , love it and have always recommended it and I def understood why. All the food is so delicious I almost forgot to take pictures. Was too busy enjoying their wine and chatting with the staff that are extremely friendly, attentive, lovely! A new favorite for me!

We just got engaged and came here to celebrate. Walking up on a Saturday night for dinner was about 35-40 min wait but it went by quicker than expected. We got a table inside and they are small tables so be cautious if you want to order full appetizer, entrees and drinks. Great selection to choose from and the house red was only $10 and decent. Their sodas come in the bottle and a glass to pour to yourself. Focaccia bread was delicious! Came with a bottle of olive and balsamic to pour onto your little plate. Well seasoned We decided to split the lasagna and a pizza. Lasagna was so yummy and not too hot. Pizza was amazing! We got the Eva and the hot honey was the perfect topping on that. The only downside was it was hard to flag our waiter down he kept coming over to our area and serve others but wouldn't look at us at all. He finally cane by to ask if we wanted dessert but we just asked for the check. We wonder if he saw the wine glass was not empty and assumed we were nursing it. Overall though great spot big line and lots of to go orders flying out the kitchen . We would love to come back and try more of their pizzas!!

We stopped in for happy hour and were pretty underwhelmed. The service felt very minimal--our server checked in from a distance without coming to the table and didn't offer another round, even though both of our glasses were empty. When we asked a busser for help, he relayed the request, but the server finished a conversation with coworkers before eventually coming over. The pasta was slightly undercooked (less than al dente), though the flavor was there. Looking around, we also noticed the wine bottles displayed above the kitchen were covered in dust, which wasn't the best look. I've had great experiences at the Coronado location before, so I'm not sure why the visit the this location missed the mark.

Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Everything was so yummy here! We got the montanara and the pappardelle with bolognese. The montanara had three different toppings: olives, pine nuts, and burrata. Service helped explain some of the pastas and their best pairings too which I really appreciated. We came in at 2pm on a Monday, an hour before they closed, so it was really empty, but it didn't feel like they were rushing us and we finished before 3pm. There was a heat source on the wall where we sat outside so it was pretty warm. The pasta was so good! I highly recommend pappardelle with bolognese. The pappardelle is an egg pasta which I feel like makes it taste so fresh! Overall we'd definitely come back whenever we're in San Diego.

Came here for a second time, 4 years after my first time, and sadly it's gone downhill. They were known for their pizzas, but I've felt like their pizzas did not hit the spot this time around. They had dry burnt uneven crusts with extremely wet centers that were not cut evenly, and fell apart the moment it was lifted. One of the specialty pizzas did taste decent, but looked unappetizing with the globs of cheese that were so uneven and made a huge mess in the middle. Also had the calamari which was just ok, definitely could have been crispier. The best dish was probably the pesto chicken, many of the pasta you can kinda build your own. Pesto could have had more flavor but the chicken wasn't as dry as I was expecting. Don't think I'm going to be coming back again anytime soon.

    Regina Margarita was delicious.

Best pizza I've had and the service was amazing. The music and the ambiance was also perfect.

Ask the Community - Buona Forchetta

Which location is the original one and is it the best?

I believe the South Park location is the original one. I personally prefer the Liberty Station location.

Is the pizza in a jar still available to order?

No it is not on their menu the last few years, I've not seen it as a special either the last few years. Perhaps call and ask to get a better idea just incase

    Is there pizza for kids?

I did not see a dedicated children's menu. Their menu lists many pizzas. I'm sure they would prepare a pizza with the toppings of your choice.

    Are reservations necessary for lunch?

I would make them for weekdays as well. You never know.

    Is the restaurant dog friendly?

Not sure about other locations, but I've seen a lot of good boys at both the coronado and liberty station location so I would say yes!? They have outdoor seating at both locations. Hope this helps!

How many inches is a pizza?

one pizza has 4 delicious slices, probably about 8-10inches (i'm not the best at math lol)

    Is there air conditioning?

There is in the indoor dining room but we went for lunch and the seating was outdoor only. The weather was nice so we didn't care

Do you serve gluten free pizza?

Yes they do! One of the best I've had locally.

    What is your corkage fee?

    $10 per bottle

Do they post their specials anywhere? I called multiple times to ask and no one answered.

They rarely answer and to my knowledge you will have to go to the restaurant to check out the specials

The voice mailbox is full! How do we make reservations? Tonight at 8:30PM

Yeah, that's not inconsistent with trendy places. The best time to call any restaurant is between 2 and 4. I had to try about 5 times before I got through and made my reservation for 4 people for 7 pm on a Saturday night 3 weeks in advance. When we…

    Is it pet friendly?

    Yes on their patio

    Do you take reservations?

    Yes they do!

    Do they take reservations?

Yes, but you'll probably need to start by leaving a message. They're not big on picking up the phone.

Do they take groups of six people right now?

Yes, we went for a birthday and sat outside on the patio.

Is the wine bar next door open?

Yes it is. Call for hours.

Is the family meal to go still available?

Check out their Facebook page. They have updated the menu for pick up. Just saw it today. Limited items from full menu

Are there any plates that don't have pasta?

Absolutely! If you go online, their updated menu is there. There's more pizza options than pasta. As well as, Secondi courses. It's all soo good!

Do they sell "cheese wheel pasta?

I don't think so. But I know bencotto and/or monello in little Italy has it

    How is the carbonara?

At Buona Forchetta there are actually real Italian guys in the kitchen and are preparing real Italian dishes and this is most important to ensure authenticity! Need I say more?

This food was a religious experience from the first bite. I saw god in this Italian restaurant…read more Free bread/olive oil and balsamic vinegar was fantastic. Everything made in house and you can absolutely tell I got the Alfredo and it was outstanding, each bite better than the last Gluten free pasta options as well! Didn't try it myself but I would be willing to bet it's great too. Fantastic service, our server was kind and attentive. Reasonable prices! A wonderful dinner had by all, I will definitely be back!

My partner and I made a reservation because we expected the restaurant to be busy. We got there…read morebefore they opened, hoping to be seated inside, but were placed outside instead. We asked if there were any tables available inside and were told no because they were being saved for other guests, even though there were empty tables for two. It was a bit chilly and windy outside, and we weren't the only ones asking to sit inside. I even watched one of the indoor tables get up and leave shortly after, which made the whole situation even more frustrating. That already left a bad impression, but we decided to stay and give the food a chance. Stinco Di Agnello: 4.5/10 The portion size was great and the dish looked delicious when it came out, but that was about the only positive. The lamb shank was overcooked, a little dry, and lacked the rich flavor you'd expect. Even the sauce couldn't save it. The pasta had a grainy texture, and the mushroom sauce was so weak that you could barely taste it. On top of that, the plate was too small, so the lamb sauce kept mixing into the mushroom sauce and completely threw off the dish. Saltimbocca Alla Romana: 3/10 This was honestly unacceptable. We specifically ordered the steak medium rare, and it came out well done. That's not a small mistake. It's one of the most basic things to get right. We didn't send it back because we didn't want to sit there waiting for another entree or waste the food, but it was tough, dry, and not enjoyable to eat at all. The sauce was bland and added nothing to the dish. The potatoes were the only thing worth eating. They also only serve wine and beer, so don't expect cocktails. The only reason this review isn't even lower is because our server was kind, attentive, and did a great job. I've given this restaurant multiple chances over the years, and every visit has been disappointing in one way or another. The ambiance wasn't great either. Between being seated outside in the cold, the noise, and the overall atmosphere, it definitely didn't feel like a place I'd choose for a date night. At this point, I can't justify coming back. There are far too many great Italian restaurants around to spend your money on food that is consistently underwhelming and poorly executed. Food: 3/10 Service: 8.5/10

Fab time here - I don't know why I hadn't come in a while…read more Current version of the patio is not huge - but it was sweet & comfy and on Laurel toward the park (not on 5th or toward the corner). So nice views into the park too. Josh was our server and he was super nice! I started with the pope's delight cocktail. It's listed online as "aged rum + amaro romana + salted cantaloupe olio + lime, $17." But they had decided to add a proscuitto crisp and make it $21. I didn't want the proscuitto so that was a little annoying. But it was a tasty little cocktail. Bread: it's amazing here. They change exactly how they do it from time to time - this version was so yummy and with great butter. App: I got the burrata + pluot | cherry tomato + arugula + almond + coriander + mint + toast appetizer. Very yummy! Huge also. I took half of it home. Definitely recommend. Entree: I always like when the corn agnolotti comes on the menu, but it changes each year. This version was pretty good - I think my pasta was just a tad undercooked, not quite al dente on the parts of the agnolotti on the edges (not the pillows holding the filling). Still good though. Also, if you're going to the theater, do you know they have a FREE shuttle that takes you to the Old Globe and back? We decided to walk there after dinner (easy, pretty) but take the shuttle back after the show. So easy! And then I ordered takeout dessert from Josh. Overall, a super meal and great vibes. Looking forward to coming back soon!

Without hesitation, he poured me a glass of Prosecco, invited me to wait outside, and assured me he'd have a seat for me in just a few minutes. Sure enough, about two minutes later, he came out and seated me. This restaurant made you feel like you were in Italy with the ambiance and vibe. I had done my research beforehand, so I already knew what I wanted. I ordered the lasagna, and it was absolutely incredible. The portion was generous, and my server let me know it would take a little extra time to prepare, which was perfectly fine. It didn't take long for me to realize that the man who seated me was also the owner. As I watched him greet guests throughout the evening, it was obvious that he genuinely loves what he does. We had a great conversation, and he was warm, welcoming, and personable. After finishing my meal, I ordered a double espresso and tiramisu for dessert.
