Ambiance: great place for friends, date night, special occasion. We sat in the outdoor patio area and there were heaters around which kept us warm and cozy. Didn't love the bathroom situation; there are 2 bathrooms but they aren't really next to each other and there's not a lot of room to wait so it was a bit awkward to stand in the middle of the hallway and in front of other tables while waiting. Service: efficient, nice, friendly Food: The $8 sound enticing and gets you in the door, but be aware that it's for the bare minimum pasta (pasta + marinara/meat sauce). If you want protein, cheese, veggies, etc, there are extra charges. I ended up just getting the $16 Baked Vodka Bolognese since I thought the value was better than the buid-your-own. It was hot, cheesy deliciousness. My friend and I split the garlic bread which is this warm, crispy bread that comes with garlic sauce, and it was only $2! What a steal! Really enjoyed our anniversary dinner here! Came on a Wednesday about 20 minutes earlier than our reservation time and got seated right away. We were able to find easy free street parking no problem about a block away around 6:30pm. The host and our waitress were lovely. We received complimentary garlic bread to start. The garlic and buttered side was SO good, but after that it's just plain dry bread, and we wished more of it had the garlic buttery goodness! The absolute star of the show was the lasagne, it was so flavorful, delicious, and filling! The vodka bolognese was what I was most excited about, but my preference for vodka sauce is creamier and thicker so it sticks to the noodle, where this was pretty thin and seemed to slide off for the most part. Once the sunset, it was SO dark in the restaurant. I wanted to pick around the mushrooms in the vodka bolognese, but literally had to turn on my phone flashlight because I couldn't clearly see in front of me without it. It's a beautiful restaurant and has a very cute patio with heat lamps and string lights. The servers were helpful and friendly. We made two build your own pizzas and both were delicious. With an appetizer or two, the two pizzas were enough for our group of six. There are no reservations on Monday and Tuesday for pizza and pasta nights so the wait was about 45 minutes but if you plan to walk around North Park for a while or get a drink elsewhere while you wait it can work out fine. The table was little weird for 5, inside was also pretty dim, but still manageable. The four of us decided to share two pizzas: -The Parker is a signature pizza ($15.95): which comes with evoo, mozzarella cheese, prosciutto, pear, walnuts, arugula, and honey. So I really wanted to go to their Tuesday night pasta and wine deal, in order to do this I have to make a reservation 3 months in advance. One Tuesday I tried to be a walk in and I was surprised that the reactions were so far out, and they could reserve my spot at the podium, I had to go online and check every single Tuesday individually until I found a Tuesday with an open reservation. So I had pretty high hopes for this place, and honestly it was pretty basic. I didn't find the pasta dishes to be anything special. Also the base price for the pasta with a basic red sauce was $8 and then each topping added cost extra. I wasn't expecting that but I guess I should have believed the deal sounded too good to be true. I ended up adding 3-4 topping to my dish and it came out to the price of a regular pasta dish. The customization was fun but I wouldn't say it was too much cheaper. The one thing that did stand off out to me was their beet and goat cheese salad! I loved how big the beet chunks were and it was so refreshing, highly recommend it. The ambiance was fine, they lit a lot of candles so the restaurant was pretty dark. Aside from the head lights that shined through the window from the street. They were going for elevated ambiance but I wasn't sure it was quite there. The tables were pretty close together, and it felt a little squished. The wait staff was nice, we accidentally ordered the wrong wine and they were nice enough to change it out for us without any question. What happened Alexander's? I used to enjoy coming here for date night. The food was fine, although it never did fit the price point. But what made it stand out was the ambience. The food execution was always a bit... clumsy, too heavy handed with the oil, lacking finesse in the flavour profile. But the ambience made it worthwhile. But now... this last visit the pesto based pasta was basically a pesto salad. I had to fish for noodles between mouthfuls of pesto. The beet salad was still good but not the same quality as dishes like the Burrata and Prosciutto Salad they used to offer. The previous visit the pasta was drowning in oil. The main dish arrived before the salad. The server said sorry but didn't do anything about it. I would have expected her to take the pasta back and bring a fresh plate after we'd received and maybe even finished our salad. We had to eat our meal backwards. Fail on both food and service side. Fix the downhill slide of the food quality. It was awful. Take pride in what you offer, finer dining means if the main comes out first the server takes it back of their own accord.
