Dr. Burpee and the tech/receptionists have been absolutely wonderful with our puppy Ranger. Our pup accidently swallowed one of my special needs sons medications(baclofen). I called to explain our situation prior to showing up since this was not our veterinarian. The office was amazing over the phone, they were great upon arrival and had already called poison control. I was so scared because he was fading fast with all the symptons possible. After the initial stabilzation of Ranger, Jordan gave me a little reassurance. Dr. Burpee came out to speak with me about the plan and concerns she had about Rangers recovery. Everything was given to me on an itemized estimate for the treatment of our puppy by a tech. I left him with them feeling comfortable they were going to take great care of our pup. Dr. Burpee called me a few times with updates. I was surprised it was her actually calling me but incredibly relieved to hear about Ranger directly from the doctor. I can not express how appreciative I am for this type of loving, honest and direct care towards our family member. I would highly recommend this veterinary center for your animals. I will be bringing all of our pets to them for routine care. Thank you for saving our little man! Side note: The clinic was immaculate, modern and no animal smell. They also have coffee, bottles of water and cookies available while waiting. A large plasma tv with a movie. Their restroom is very neat and clean as well. There is a very good reason why everyone gives Burbank Veterinary Clinic 5 stars! I would drive hours to see Dr. Burpee if I ever left Los Angeles. Not only is the office and exam rooms the cleanest I've ever seen, but the staff is the friendliest and most caring that I've ever dealt with. Everyone who works here has animals too, adding to their compassion. I brought my two cats in after years of not seeing a vet and of course I was worried there would be many issues to deal with because of this. Dr. Burpee is so thorough she must have spent an hour and a half closely examining every inch of my kitties. The Dr was incredibly knowledgable in helping us prevent and treat a few ailments that they have acquired. Not only are the prices very reasonable for blood work, shots, samples, etc. but the vet technicians also groom, trim and wash your animals after their exam. The Dr suggested putting our money in other areas than vaccines and doesn't push any unnecessary expenses on you at all. She even sent us on our way with some free wet food. Thank you fellow helpers for sending me here. I will never go to another vet again and hope I can convince you all to make the same choice I did! I recently got a new puppy from the shelter and came to this hospital to have him checked out as one does... To start the office is very clean, it's sleek but still inviting; they had a movie playing as well which was nice. The receptionist/nurse was so sweet and helped set up our new boy with a file and got us into a room. Dr. B came and checked him out, recommended a diet and made some suggestions for behavior training. Charlie totally loved her and everyone knows dogs are great judges of character. She is def. knowledgeable and took her time answering all my questions. We didn't have much work done, thankfully - but had he needed any other antibiotics or what not, I felt plenty comfortable here and would have taken her word. I appreciated her and the nurse not trying to push products or extra tests on us. Overall good experience, we'll be back for checkups. read more

Dr B gave me a whole year of time to be with my baby Boris. He did pass away in Sept 2012 but the way it was handled by Dr b gave me so much comfort and peace, I can never thank her enough! My heart has healed enough now that I have two new babies, Dexter and Nigel. Nigel will be meeting Dr B for the first time next week and I am very excited for him and for me. Without her caring concern I would still be a mess I am certain. My babies are 1 and 2 in April and I am sure they will both have a long and happy life with Dr B as their primary care professional! BTW, I read in other review that BVC doesn't have an ER vet that they recommend and that is COMPLETELY untrue! Pricing wise, I find her quite comparable, a visit was $78 at my old vet ( a vet who missed illnesses in both my cats) a visit here is significantly less, I think $45, need to check receipt. By far the best in town... I see that some complain about the prices but for me and my wife our dogs are our babies and the service and treatment is no joke! We just had to let Dr. Burpee take one of our dogs to heaven and it was our third loss in 8 months! The last place was a joke and the Vet had no bedside manner and we waited 5 hours at the emergency place because Dr. Burpee was not open on that day - late Saturday night. We had that special love for 10 yrs and he was 15 years old under the care of Dr. Burpee. He was a Pitbull/ Mastiff. We kept his weight down and she advised Royal Canine for sensitive digestive tracts as these types of dogs can have this issue. Fifteen is unheard of for two breeds like these breeds. Yes, Rocky had lots of love, safety, good food and exercise and moderation of everything as he got older. Burbank rental space is 3x the amount for commercial space so give her a break there. I lived there for 50 years and even homes are triple the cost there, and you get what you pay for most of the time. She is so compassionate and the dogs love her. We are so impressed with her skills and her way with the dogs. Her center is state of the art, the staff knows you by name and even knows the details about follow up etc. Dr. Burpee is the female dog whisperer. Everyone is always so friendly here and the atmosphere is so comforting. I've been taking my cat here for a while and I know I'll never want to change vets. Even when I'm just stopping by to pick up a prescription, if Dr. Burpee notices me she comes out to see how me and my cat are doing. If I call and have any questions I'm always able to talk to Dr. Burpee, I never have to wait for a call back or even have to wait on hold for a long time. Most times I'm there for an exam I'm seen in a timely fashion, there are occasions when I'm not but I can see the staff taking their time with each patient, never rushing through discharge instructions or rushing people out the door, and I know they will give me the same treatment so in my eyes that makes up for the wait time. Prices are high and that stinks, but I've never felt like I was being short changed on time or explanations. I feel the level of attention me and my animal gets along with the medications and procedures I've had done, are worth the price. read more

Even my scaredy cats are okay going to Dr. Burpee! And it's very obvious that she cares about them. She always remembers me and my kitties, despite having so many other patients. She knows all the little details about them, like how Newton is afraid of his own shadow or how Tesla is a wild one. My orange tabby had his annual exam, where Dr. Burpee noticed his gums were swollen and bright red. We immediately scheduled him for a dental cleaning the following week. If you've never done one of these before, as I hadn't, it's a big deal: they do bloodwork, put the pet under, take full mouth x-rays, and at your option can pull teeth as they see necessary--and it is not cheap. The techs talked me through the whole process, and made me feel comfortable letting my scaredy cat go in for the procedure. They pulled two of his teeth, which they'd found to be abscessed. When I brought him home, I was expecting him to be skittish, maybe still mad at me for bringing him in to the vet. He took only a very brief nap to sleep off the rest of the anesthesia, and then quickly came to me for attention. He's been so happy since the surgery, and I've been so happy to see him happy again. His new demeanor speaks for itself. Dr. Burpee is great! I should add that the only reason it's getting four stars instead of five is price. I don't expect it to be cheap, but their prices are about average. On the other hand, it's still a great value. read more

I came here thinking things would be great like the reviews stated, however, I felt unwelcomed and somewhat disrespected. I walked in and one of the ladies greeted me. One is super sweet and the other one was pretty stand off-ish. Everytime I was there it seemed to be that I was waiting, while others would be in and out of the clinic. They also charge alot of minor things. For example I need the vet to sign one paper, just 1 signature. Easy 2 seconds and they wanted to charge me $75. It was so I can take my dog one the plane because he is my ESA. I had already spend close to $400 for 2-3 shots and I asked the vet to sign it at my first appointment and she said no and explained that he needs to be seen 10 days before I fly out. Sadly she had her information mixed up. So when I went back to get the signature they said no because they need to check him again. Mind you these two events happened less than 7 days apart. I asked them, why if my dog was just here. They said something about a certificate and a letter was needed so that he can fly. Again told them no that's not what I need and they still refused to listen. At this point my anxiety was out the roof and I couldn't even talk to them. I will no longer be going there. read more

I adopted a puppy last Wednesday, June 11, 2014. The very next day I called BVC to schedule a check up on my puppy. My puppy was in a very bad shape, stressed, vomitting, and diarrhea... To make the long story short, I spent more than $1000 on them in less than a week... But every single penny spent was worth it. People b*tch about how they got tricked or charged for something they didn't know about... But honestly at the end of the day, it's all about saving your pet. Updated: My dog was a patient of Dr. Burpee, after I switched to her earlier this year when I moved from the IE. I waited 45 minutes to see her. She was pleasant during the visit, and nice to my dog. I was surprised that a regular check-up with blood work plus heart worm and flea prevention cost just under $700. While I waited another 45 minutes for my dog to have her blood drawn, I noticed the other patients paid in the $600-800 range for their visits. Earlier this week, my dog hurt her leg, and was crying and limping - obviously in great pain. I called Dr. Burpee's office (@ 10:00am), and the receptionist told me there were no appointments available that day. I explained how much my dog was suffering, and asked if they could fit her in. The receptionist didn't care, and told me Dr. Burpee could see me tomorrow. So, I called my previous vet, 50 miles away, who was happy to fit me in. I hadn't been to my previous vet in a year, before I moved, but she made space in her incredibly busy schedule for me. Her waiting room was packed when I got there. I've had pets for 30 years, and I've NEVER had a situation where my pet was injured and clearly suffering, and my vet turned me away. read more

With the help of Yelp reviews I decided that this is where we will bring Jillie (our keeshond puppy). The BVC team was both personal and professional from start to finish. They made puppy comfortable and gave us the impression that Jillie is in the right care. They explained what was done and what will be done in Jillie's schedule, even showed us how to properly clean her ears. Dr. Burpee allowed my dog to be healthy and happy!! I first stepped into her practice over a year ago and I don't think I'll ever leave. My boxer, Cleo has severe allergies and the vet I went to prior to Dr. Burpee was doing so much more harm to my dog than good. Dr. Burpee spent over an hour with Cleo and I explaining to me her recommended course of treatment. She was very upfront and honest about the prices at the very beginning of her explanation. Yes, Cleo's treatment is pretty expensive, but the cost means nothing to me when I take Cleo's health and Dr. Burpee's expertise into consideration. She has had Cleo's allergies under control the entire time she has been under her care. Anytime I had a question or concern I'd leave a message with the front desk and Dr. Burpee would call me back within a day or two to address my concerns. Cleo absolutely loves her! Cleo's condition prior to having discovered Dr.Burpee was very poor. She constantly suffered from ear infections, skin allergies, severe paw gnawing, and an itchy snout. I'm incredibly overjoyed to say that's not the case anymore. She's very happy and healthy! I have Dr.Burpee to thank for that. Summary: 5 Stars is NOT enough When it comes to veterinary care, I could not be more lucky! I found Dr. B and the staff at BVC about 4 years ago after I rescued my Boxer (which really means I needed a vet that would be on my side). Since that day, we have faced cancer, pancreatitis, ulcerated corneaS, ear infections, incontinence, and the every day stuff too (gotta love Boxers). Through all of the services my Boxer and I have received at BVC, we have been treated with respect, kindness, accurate diagnoses, and the highest quality care for my Boxer. So much so that even after moving to Downey, we still drive across LA, taking time off from work to manage the traffic, just to get to Dr. B and BVC. BVC is not the cheapest Vet in town (and far from the most expensive), but in my opinion they are the BEST Vet in town! It seems some individuals have not figured out that prescriptions filled at veterinary offices are typically two/three times more expensive than getting them at Costco/Amazon/Chewy. Capitalism and economics of scale mandate that Costco/Amazon/Chewy are going to save a TON more buying millions of pills at a time (and therefore offer lower prices) than your local veterinary office will buying 50-100 pills at a time. Based on my personal experiences over the last 4-5 years, it simply does not get any better than BVC when it comes to caring for my boy! read more

About a year and a half ago, I walked into this office an utter mess because my cat was losing weight, vomiting up every meal and hiding more and more each day. At the time, I was just getting back to work after being on medical leave for a torn ACL, so money was tight. She was very sympathetic, but also very honest. She told me what we were looking at and the steps we needed to take to help him. After a few visits, we ruled out pancreatitis and decided we could go forth with a treatment for lymphoma--if it worked, we knew we had it right. We took this route because I couldn't afford to do exploratory surgery to know for certain. It's been a year and a half, he's been doing well ever since. He's gained about 3 lbs back--and on a cat, that's a lot--and his personality is back in full swing. Dr. Burpee and her staff have been there for us every step of the way and are such caring people. They genuinely love animals and they are so wonderful at the job. Long story short, it's the best money I have ever spent. I wouldn't take my animals anywhere else in the LA area. read more

The staff and Dr. Ceko are amazing! I am so happy I found them, just moved to Burbank from Orange County and honestly feel like I hit the lotto finding them. My french bull dogs leg went out on her on Monday night and was screaming in pain, it was the most awful sound and feeling ever. We had to take her to a 24 hour vet and had a nightmare of an experience. Tuesday morning we knew we had to do something immediately, I called Dr. Ceko and they were all booked until Friday, so I frantically looked for a different vet. My phone rang and it was the front office saying they had a cancellation and they could see my dog, talk about going above and beyond to help me. They didn't know anything about me, besides I had a dog in pain. Dr. Ceko got all the records from the vet we has seen the previous night and found the issue with my baby. She is has the best bed side manor, so knowledgeable, and caring. We have a long road with her being diagnosed with my dog having IVVD, but I know she is in the best hands ever. After a recent move to Burbank, my husband and I knew we would have to find a local vet to take our spoiled dog to. After reading the positive yelp reviews for Dr. Burpee, we made an appt for his yearly exam and vaccinations. And...wow. Even the positive reviews could not have prepared us for how fantastic this place really is. It is clean and well organized. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. And Dr. Burpee...well, she's just incredible. She spent so much time with us, really getting to know Murphy and asking lots of questions and loving on him--even when he was a hyper mess. I didn't even have to tell her about some of the issues he has had with his skin, because she noticed and asked us about it. She had recommendations on treatments but was never pushy about anything and really took the time to explain everything. This is more than he has ever received at a vet before during the 8 years we have had him. And I am sure that he will finally experience the most relief he ever has from his chronic skin/allergy issues with the new treatment plan. And if he doesn't? Then I am confident that Dr Burpee will give us alternate solutions. She may not be cheap, but her quality, compassionate care is worth it. We are so glad we found her! read more

A little late for a review, but Dr Burpee basically saved my aunt's cat. She did a multi thousand dollars surgery for a well, whatever my aunt could scrap together. Or the cat was going to DIE. This was about 5 years ago or so, The cat is still alive till this day because of Dr Burpee. The cat had sepsis, or septic shock, she was biten and her organs were being infected. So they started heavy duty antibiotics. Basically had to open up the entire cats body and clean organs with saline solution. It worked. Once again can't say enough. We felt bad that we only had so much money for the operation. But we have made countless referrals on top of me leaving this great yelp review. My neighbor tina goes here with her dog buddy. I went here last Friday to buy the laser treatment for her dog for christmas and the office looked familiar. Thanks for the helpful staff. read more

They do decent work, but they charge an arm and a leg and their communication is not only inconsistent, but also in-genuine. Dr. Burpee literally saved the life of one who was about to be put to sleep - a year later, "Rickie" is going strong and her sister is in the best shape of her life. Our great dane, Sophie, had begun limping severely, and we called and were able to see Dr. B right away. Unfortunately for all parties, the diagnosis was bone cancer. Dr. Burpee laid out all our reasonable options for her future treatment, all of which are generally grim... but what sets her apart from our last vet, is the sheer compassion and empathy she exhibits for the animals under her care. I can't even say how much I appreciate the love and attention my kitty got from coming here. They helped her live 2 months longer than her body was permitting and gave me that precious time with her. They were reasonable, fair and never excessive with the things she needed to get better. I believe most vets are expensive so they didn't charge any more than usual and gave extraordinary care in exchange. The office is very well kept and the facilities are clean. The receptionists and vet techs are all very nice, respectful and professional. God Bless Doctor B. I am so thankful to have been referred to her when I first inherited my dog, Baxter, who at the time was 8 years old with no history of health issues. That quickly changed in his senior years, and were it not for Dr. B's indefatigable attention and care, he would not have made it to his ninth birthday, much less to his tenth, eleventh, twelfth and hopefully beyond. She diagnosed and treated pancreatitis, she discovered a TINY dot on his gums and immediately recognized it as oral melanoma (the cancer specialist we then saw had to refer back to Dr. B's photos in order to find it because it was so small!), she helped solve his allergy issues, she found a way to deal with his gum disease, and she has been my partner and guide in coping with his ongoing, and at times life-threatening, GI disease. It is so terrifying to not be able to help a loved one in pain, and to have to leave their care in the hands of someone else. Over the course of this journey with Baxter, I have met many veterinary specialists and visited many other offices. Those experiences have helped me to understand how remarkably special Dr. B's practice is. It's not only that Dr. B is wholly devoted to healing her patients, or that she has incredible intuition and the ability to quickly assess what is ailing your animal; it's also that she genuinely respects the relationships that owners have with their animals. She never dismisses the emotional connection between person and pet; she sees our animals like we do, as our family members, our dependents, our babies. I've learned first hand how rare that genuine respect is in the veterinary community. The other thing that sets this practice apart is the staff. The loving, caring, invested team members who know every returning animal by name, who make the effort to bond with the animals and try to make them feel comfortable, who play games with them in the back to keep them relaxed, who respect that many owners are as nervous as their animals at the vet and take the time to put the humans at ease too. From the first moment you walk in and see Kseniya's welcoming face, and before her it was Kristi and Jordan's faces, you will know you have found a safe place. When one of the wonderful vet techs returns your precious baby to you, whether it's Veronica, Rachel, Fabian (to only name a few!), you will know that they genuinely care about your little one as they share funny anecdotes about what your boy or girl was doing in the back that made them laugh. I had pets all my life and have met several vets. I moved to LA 6 years ago, and found Dr. Burpee through Yelp 5 years ago after being with a vet clinic chain for a few months. First of all, she has been a life safer for my three old cats in very critical situations. Our Pippy was already older when she had an extreme kidney failure. She almost died. But with Dr. Burpee's knowledge and care she was able to be with us for a few more happy, good years. When we had to say Good-by, the whole team was amazing and Dr. Burpee helped us to make the right decision at the right time. When she saw our Emily for her first senior check-up and dental, she did x-rays on her. Emily's teeth were bright white and clean and my old vets never recommended this. But Dr. Burpee was skeptical about an almost invisible color change in her gum line. Emily's roots were all inflamed and damaged. Dr. Burpee had to do a full teeth removal within 6 months in two sessions. She did an amazing job, Emily has been a happy, healthy toothless cat since then. Now she treats her arthritis and helps us balancing her situation very well. Our third cat Milla has pancreatitis. Dr. Burpee diagnosed her two years ago when Milla suddenly became extremely sick. It was life-threatening, all numbers, including blood sugar, were through the roof. Milla is doing well, she is on medication and Dr. Burpee has a sense for the slightest changes in her weight and behavior. And just because of being so dedicated to her patients she saved her life a second time. She was suspecting a tumor and was right about this. But being caught early it could be cured by treatment and it is completely gone. Every time I have questions or one of the girls has been in a critical situation Dr. Burpee is always there for us. She never misses to give us a call back even after office hours. She is an animal lover and she is highly qualified and dedicated to her profession. Talking about costs. I lived in Germany before I moved to LA. Unfortunately my cats, who moved with me, were too old to get insurance at that point. The fees for examination and surgery Dr. Burpee charges are kind of the same like they have been with my German vet and to my knowledge they are absolutely fair. She has to provide a highly specialized service on so many levels and it is all about saving lives and keeping our loved ones healthy. My vet bills in Germany were significantly lower then here in the US. But that is the same issue with my own doctors bills. As long as we don't have regulations by law for the pharmaceutical industry we are not protected against overpriced med costs in this country. And this is not Dr. Burpee's fault! She has to pay them too! We love Dr. Burpee, we love her team. Whenever I am worried about something going on with the girls - they are there for us. read more

This made no sense to me so I went looking for a new vet and found Dr. Pavlina Burpee on this site. At the first appointment, Dr. Burpee immediately diagnosed my kitty with stomatitis, a diagnosis his old vet had apparently missed for years, leaving my kitty in horrific daily pain and shortening his life. Stomatitis is a dangerous condition in which the membranes of the mouth basically dissolve the animal's teeth over time and leave them sick in many other ways. I made an immediate appointment for a new dental, Dr. Burpee and her able assistant Mara, explaining every detail of what would be done. I was so impressed at the thoroughness of the procedure, learning that not all vets x-ray your pet's mouth before and after surgery and something his old vet had never done at all. Long story short, my kitty had 7 teeth pulled. Dr. Burpee was able to save his canines, which help keep his tongue in his mouth, in spite of the fact that they were fairly eroded. After the surgery, because of the method of anesthesia, my kitty came home alert and happy. With the old vet he would come home staggering so badly he could barely stand. What an improvement! Dr. Burpee also recommended my kitty lose 6 pounds over the course of the next year. I had asked his old vet repeatedly if he should be on a diet and was told he was big but not really fat. He is fat, also not something that is good for his health. Dr. Burpee invited me to come in every 3 weeks free of charge to use the scale at the facility so that my kitty does not lose weight too quickly. He lost 4 ounces the first week and I have to say he does not appear to miss the extra food at all. The facility itself is immaculate and state-of-the-art. There is ample parking on the street. Everyone on staff is lovely and helpful. Dr. Burpee is beyond wonderful. I completely trust her with my pet's health and that is a feeling I have not had with any other vet. I would probably let her clean MY teeth if she would do it! read more

Like a previous reviewer mentioned, I called with a pet emergency and asked if it was possible to make an appointment the next day. Being new to the area and reading the rave reviews, I thought this clinic would be helpful. The receptionist told me that the appointments were booked for a week and that they were closing soon. I asked if there was an emergency vet they recommended and she said she didn't know any. Really? Every vet I've ever used had an emergency clinic they would recommend if they weren't open. While I understand that this hospital may be booked up, at the very least treat your potential customer with care and courtesy. I called Media City Animal Hospital and they told me what to look out for in case her symptoms got worse and gave me an emergency clinic to go to in case my pug's health worsened. My two dogs and cat will be going there instead. read more

I had the fortune of finding Dr. Burpee a couple years ago, while looking for a caring place I could trust to care for my cat. I always found her to be honest, kind, loving and thoughtful with my princess. She was always willing to call me to clarify or explain things and if I ever needed to leave my princess during the weekend for medical reasons, she even called me and told me how she was holding up. My baby was in excellent hands and I couldn't have asked for a more loving doctor. Unfortunately, the time came to let go of my baby, at the age of 18 years and after about 2 years of battling kidney disease. And even in that awfully difficult time, I couldn't have imagined anyone else but Dr. Burpee guiding us through a very difficult and heartbreaking decision. Her team is dedicated and kind. I thank them for all they did for my baby and for the kindness they showed us through even the most difficult moments. She's the best! read more

I have two dogs and a cat who are patients of Dr. Burpee. We used to go to a larger vet office and I was frustrated that we were never able to see the same vet each time. I like that we always see Dr Burpee, she knows my pets and always takes the time to explain things to me. We lost a dog three years ago and her office was amazing and even cried with me when we pulled up after she had passed. I was surprised to read the negative review about Kate. She doesn't have a baby voice, that's her voice and she is incredibly kind and patient. I think people need to remember that the pain and anxiety we experience when one of our four legged family members is hurt or sick is a part of their daily job. They bond and get to know these pets too and then have to watch and try to support families as they are dealing with horrible news. I honestly couldn't do it, I cry when I see a sad video of an animal...they have these things happen in front of them daily. Have some patience and be kind. The only reason I don't give five stars is the prices are very high and they definitely add a lot of things on but I'm not willing to compromise my pets care so I stay. read more

I am a fairly new dog owner. I adopted my dog a couple of months ago and have been taking him to the clinics that the adoption place has on a monthly basis with a vet. So I have never really had the need for a local vet until today. I have never been to Burbank Veterinary Center before, but based on these wonderful reviews, I called to see if they would see my dog who had just taken a really bad fall and was limping. All of which I explained to the lady that answered the phone. She said "Sorry nothing is available until Thursday." I again explained to her the urgency and all she said was sorry. When I asked if she could recommend somewhere else, she said that she did not know the area!!! read more

I've been mulling a review for some time, and after reading a handful of the other recent reviews, it appears my negative sentiments towards their pricing transparency is echoed by others, so I thought I'd share my experience. I've had both my dog and cat taken care of by Dr. Burpee for 2 years now. My first handful of visits to the clinic in 2012 were quite positive. Prices weren't cheap, but it seemed reasonable and Dr. Burpee was informative and figures were presented up front, so it seemed clear cut. In the fall of 2013, I brought the same pets back for the same services--teeth cleaning, annual checkups and vaccinations. I was bothered by why I couldn't get a quote for a cleaning and was told the doctor was going to phone me, so I schedule an appointment anyway for a the following week. I received no phone for a few days, and then I was bothered by the lack of the teeth cleaning quote and followed up -- two attempts, and finally spoke with the receptionist and nearly fell over when I was quoted near $550 for a service that cost $400. She reciprocated my reaction with rude indignation that I would even question the price increase. Had I not phoned in, I would have probably been penalized for cancellation. This seemed unlike the transparent service I received a year prior. Further, my cat was diagnosed with high blood pressure as well. I paid $45 for a "comprehensive wellness exam" and I would think checking blood pressure would be part of such a "comprehensive" fee. But there was an additional $45 to check the cat's blood pressure, which I wasn't aware of until I got the bill afterwards. I was too embarrassed to question it and paid. A month later, the cat's BP needed to be rechecked and I didn't want to deal with the clinic. My partner took the cat and paid for another $36 exam, in addition to another $45 blood pressure fee. They wanted us to come back again the following month for another checkup -- and that's when we've had enough. My total vet bills for last fall for two animals, for checkups and vaccinations was near $1,000. I paid more in one year than for four years at Dr. Kilroy's (who has unfortunately retired from practice). I understand the animals are older now and their cost of care would go up -- but these are basic services. I declined the dog's bloodwork, I declined the dental cleaning, else my bills would be near $1800 I did, however, get a complimentary nail trim -- discounted $15. I have no challenge towards their claim of being high tech and Dr. Burpee is a lovely woman. But something seems to have change from 2012 to 2013, where it feels like they are putting profits ahead of pets and I just don't like being put in an awkward situation second guessing whether I'm being fairly charged. My cat is 17 years old and my dog is 6 years old, both strays. Based on previous vet experiences, while I was thrilled to find Burbank Veterinary in 2012, I agree with several of the other reviewers -- something changed in 2013 and the front desk service and pricing transparency and fairness seems to have gone downhill. read more
