Awful horrible customer service! I called today requesting a basic quote for my senior cat- I asked the woman that answered the phone how much it would cost to bring my cat in for an wellness exam, a full wellness senior bloodwork panel with basic fecal, urinalysis ( LITERALLY ALL VETS I HAVE TAKEN MY CATS TO IN THE LAST 16 YEARS HAD NO PROBLEM GIVING ME THIS QUOTE OVER THE PHONE). The woman refused to give me ANY pricing and said I'll have to pay $71 to bring my cat in to get that quote in person. I tried to reason with her saying I just need a quote for a senior bloodwork panel, this is something that EVERY SINGLE VETERINARY CLINIC OFFERS. But she became argumentative and rude, and said " if you want to get the answers you'll have to make that $71 in person visit. I worked as a veterinary assistant- tech for 16 years of my life, I've worked at about 12 different veterinary clinics and hospitals, and NEVER ONCE in my career have I seen refusal to give a quote. This is not for a surgery or dental under anesthesia- ALL VETS HAVE "A LA CARTE" pricing for a senior wellness bloodwork panel, a urinalysis, a fecal test... An outstanding physician and a caring staff, we are really pleased with the care provided here. Our puppy, Sasha, was in good hands here from our very first visit. Dr Ancu asked we record him for 2 whole hours explaining everything we needed to know about our new puppy. Dr. Ancu is pleasant, knowledgeable, and very specific as a clinician. He cares! The facility is immaculate and clean. The staff is really great and astute at getting you answers needed right away. The cost is about right for the services. I'm never going to get over how bad this whole experience was!! Never using this vet again!! . I rushed my beloved cat to this vet because it was the closest location and my baby was having seizures. I handed him over to the nurse and hoped they could help him. The vet called me and said he would need surgery and to stay in the hospital for observation. $3900 procedure. I was given hardly no time to come up with the money. I begged the vet to please move forward and asked for a payment plan. I let them know that I had to have one of my other kittens put ti sleep just the day before and that I was already grieving terribly. But also had recently changed bank account and debit card due to fraud being done to me. I needed to make payments but didn't have a debit card!! They refused to give me alternative and gave my cat a sedative and said we would need to put him to sleep and told me it would cost me $260 to kill.my baby!!! They rushed me to hurry back because they were going to administer the lethal injection soon. I was completely in shock crying and begging them to please give me a lil time. I was trying to get the money and was making calls. They called me back yet again and said to get to the vet hospital immediately. I got there and my cat was in a twilight sleep and as I cried hysterically the vet Dr Ensu gave my cat the injection to stop his heart. I was devastated and honestly this place was the worst!! This vet could have eadily let me make payments and I was ready with my check book but no that wasn't good enough. I had rescued that kitten when he was a tiny and he had been abused. I rescued him and I worked with him nurturing him loving him and nine months later he was dead. He meant the world to me. He was so sweet and loving and I can't believe that the vet and staff rushed me along and didn't even care to try and help me save him. Aren't they supposed to help keep our pets alive?? They could've tried as well to locate a non profit while I was too. But they did not one thing except rush me to come up with the whole amount !!! This is a review I never thought I'd write. I've been going to Big Tujunga Veterinary Hospital since before the Ancu's took over. I loved the senior Ancu and was quite fond of his son when he first took over. Lately it seems the focus is on money and not the animal. A few years back ( which is when I started this review) I had to have my 15 pound old girl cross over the rainbow bridge. The cost for that and to have her cremated was over 500.00. To have one of my human family members cremated it was 700.00 and they had to be picked up in Long Beach. Recently both of my dogs had a stomach virus. One was way worse than the other. I took her in and 1 office visit and a couple of stomach x-rays later (436.00) still don't know what's wrong with her. He was wanted to keep her over night to give her IV Fluids and run a couple test the next day. He sends me to one of the girls so she can give me the costs. That was going to be 2100.00. When I explain I just can't do that it comes down to 1700.00. Still can't do it. She supposedly has all kinds of solutions for me. That's a joke. One of which was can't you get an increase on your debit card. Ummm no. I will say that he threw in her antibiotic at no charge. Augmentin which would have been 48.50. Regular pharmacy under 20.00. I did pick up my dog that night I was told for the overnight visit it had to be paid in full prior and I just couldn't do it. She seems to be doing fine. I feel he just needs to keep up with the Jones in his affluent neighborhood. In that case move your practice to that neighborhood where you can charge those astronomical prices. I'm not the only one who feels this way. A few of my friends that have been going there as long as I have said they won't go back. This is a small town where most of us are barely making it. This truly saddens me. Not only is it close to home there was a time I believed he truly cared about my pets. read more

I took my cat as an emergency because my regular vet, Crescenta Canada Pet Hospital was unable to take emergencies (they were fully booked because they are awesome and I've been going there for over 15 years), they kept him locked up all day and he was completely traumatized. In addition, their prices are WAY OVER PRICED and the Dr's/staff are not helpful nor reliable. They will not let you inside their concrete castle. You'll have to call for them to come drag your dog in. They will extort you! Vet didn't prescribe enough antibiotics to get rid of an infection the first time I went. It was almost cleared up, but he would not refill without seeing her again. Despite my pleas to start the antibiotics right away in order to finish the job, he would not! By the time my appointment came up the infection had turned into a 5" diameter puss filled cyst. Not to mention he probably created an antibiotic resistant strain. They tried to literally drag my dog in with a thin robe around her throat. I had to stop them. The doctor tried to get me to agree to exploratory surgery, in return for antibiotics. They finally agreed to refill the meds but said they'd charge me for a visit regardless. They wanted 6x the price for the pills as pharmacies charge, so I asked for a written prescription. He gave me one with some other doctor's name on it, which pharmacies wouldn't honor. I had to go back and pay $137 for $12 worth of pills I needed 5 days sooner. He could have fixed my dog by just selling me the pills in the first place, but he made me wait for an appointment. Now she's really sick and suffering. This vet's greed caused suffering for my dog, and financial hardship for me. The staff is nice. I blame the doctor 100% read more

These people, this staff are compassionate and lovely...my senior dog, 14 years old, passed away this morning...his decline was very quick, 2 days. His vet was booked full, and other places wouldn't take walk ins, even after telling that he's on his final hours.. They escorted us and our Jimmy with dignity, gave us the help we needed, and took care of everything so smoothly, even though they had a busy day..they made the whole process much easier. Front desk personnel's not competent when giving an estimate & not willing to take responsibility for their error. Blanca called & gave me an estimate of $1,000. Upon getting an itemized receipt total charge to my card was $1,791, more like $2,000 estimate. Significant difference. The only option was to refund the full amount or move forward with the full amount. Not only did they refuse to find a solution but now I have to put my dog through additional stress finding another vet and running multiple test. On top of this, my dogs nails were trimmed extremely short causing her to bleed. Never once did I receive an apology for this. Dr Anku nursed my cat to health. All nurses and the doctor were very nice and polite. However, the charges are outrageous. Cat was in for a few hours during the day. There is a charge for hospital (~$1000) which does not include anything. Everything that normally is part of the hospital charge was itemized separately: daily use of IV pump, catheter placement IV, hazardous material disposal fee, sedation, sedation monitoring. This doubled the bill. I called repeatedly to discuss the charges, but the doctor did not return my call. Very disappointed. read more

I decided to give this place another chance after my last bad experience cause they're so close to my house. Very disappointed once again, now I have to take my dog to another vet and pay for another exam. Took my dog in for diarrhea, the vet calls me recommending medication and I said yes, few minutes later I'm getting a call saying it's the diarrhea medication, antibiotics, and vitamins. Mind you not they haven't done a stool test yet and have no idea what caused the diarrhea. I get the diarrhea meds but what's the point of giving him antibiotics if you don't know what he has. Not to mention they were going to charge $400 for everything. Imagine paying 400 and then getting the stool test results back and it turns out he has smth else and needs another medication and not antibiotics. Our baby girl woke up with an extremely swollen eye last Monday morning and we were turned away from 2 other Vet hospitals in the area. BTVH was nice enough to squeeze us in as a walk in on a very busy day for them, which we were extremely grateful for. They kept her from 8:30a until about 4pm. I thought that was a long time for an eye exam and it made me a little uneasy, as I have major trust issues with animal hospitals from having worked in one for many years. I did however get to speak with a pleasant lady named Ana who instantly made me feel better and allowed me to ask my questions and express my concerns. She was very informative and reassuring. I also got a couple follow up calls from a Dr. Edward who was INCREDIBLY friendly and also reassuring. We are new to the area, but I think we've found our new Vet for both our girls. read more

Everyone was kind, treatment was prompt, and I appreciate their caring for my dog in an emergency. I'm grateful to have a healthy dog. Dog had a bleeding, broken nail. This vet was unfamiliar, but the closest one I could get to, quickly. Vet told me they needed to remove the nail with local anesthetic. I agreed to pay $491. Seemed like a lot, but I didn't feel like I had another option. When I got an invoice the following day, I learned there were also injections of buprenorphine, the steroid dexamethasone, and an antibiotic. Kind of a surprise. I can more or less figure out for myself they were meant to reduce pain, inflammation, and risk of infection. Makes sense. Still, I wish I had found out from a human being ahead of time, rather than an invoice after the fact. In other words: informed consent. Like I said, I'm just glad my dog's healthy. It was an emergency, end of the day for the kind folks at the office, and I can understand that things were rushed. She's recovering fine, and that's what matters most. read more

You know what?.....This place is a rip off.....I will tell you that....I stopped going there, because he lied to us about a treatment because I simply questioned him...as a result, we had to bring our cat back in for a surgery..Had he just said, "my professional opinion is:" I would not have went with his alternate suggestion and would not have had to pay over a 1000 for surgery..Apparently, with this guy, hindsight is 20/20 I just chose to not to go there anymore as his primary vet.... Because of this treatment, my cat needed prescription food..Big Tujunga charges twice as much as anywhere else...So, we had to buy it there or be extorted for more "exams" on a condition we were told he would have for the rest of his life...They would not fill prescriptions, unless we took him there...and other vets were reluctant because they did not experience his urinary blockage. Now, let me tell you why I am writing this review....CHEWY called, during the Coronavirus Pandemic to get authorization on food for my cat, with a special diet...we are running low and want to limit contact with people and vets, and hospitals...We are on autoship with Chewy and they only stopped my last order because the vet declined my already approved order through Chewy. They chose to extort us during the Coronavirus Pandemic and my Congressman, Adam Schiff, is getting a letter about this. Can you believe this place denied the prescription stating we need to come in and pay for an exam, during this pandemic....? Our order was going to ship today! I can't say enough about BTVH! Our Bernadoodle was in rough shape after having eaten something that was stuck in his stomach and intestines.
