I was impressed from the start by their clean, user-friendly site that offered a number of options for appointments and different doctors. I made one for 10:00 AM the next day. My dachsund was having back issues and was obviously in pain. He needed help and found it at Modern Animal. Doctors Kim and Lazarus diagnosed the issue and prescribed meds that solved the problem and he was back to normal in a few weeks. They have an interesting business model (and a great app). You pay $199 and get free office visits for a year. You stil pay for treatments and meds, but the exam is already included. I wish I'd done that the first time I went. This was my second visit in this location. Dr. Mason and her nurse did such an amazing job taking checking in on Mason and doing the visit. Dr. Mason was super patient and really took her time to explain everything to me. I never felt rushed out of there even though they were really busy. For the nurse that assisted her and clipped Mason's feet, I would like to thank her for her patience and care when cutting Mason's nails. He hates gettjng his nail cut so I was so relieved to have someone do it with care and patience. Unfortunately I did not get to ask her name but she was amazing! I was also so happy when I got home because I saw an email that they gave Mason a free Fi Collar as a holiday gift and I have been wanting to get it for Mason! We've been with Modern Animal since my dog was just a baby! Thank goodness we are on the yearly plan because the amount of times we have had to come in for our little guy, with some scares!! We've been with all of the doctors at this location and always appreciate their attention and care for our dog Dotori! My dog loves the front desk staff member Wendy and all the doctors! Shout out to Wendy, Dr Mason, and all the staff! They are so good to him when we do drop-off appointments by keeping him company saying hi/ playing/ having him play with the doctor's cat, walking him outside on the grass, giving him toys to play with! My dog loves coming in! We appreciate the transparency and step-by-step breakdown for billing when the nurse explains in full detail what to expect and more. They are very good at communicating on the app and by phone- always responsive and on time. I almost rated 4 due to this reason: the doctor assesses your pet's x-rays but also wants the 2nd opinion from the radiologist- outside of the location (3rd party). 1. I felt like I was charged extra unnecessarily. If there's no broken bone upon physical examination and the x-ray, and no reason to believe there's internal bleeding then I wish it would be left at that. Not a huge deal to me and I understand the radiologist they're working with has to get in on the action too. I just wish they could come back to me and say we don't suspect any other issues. For your peace of mind, do you want a radiologist's opinion for an extra fee? 2. I wish the radiologist is in-house and it took over a day to get priority response (extra fee). All in all, I'm glad there's opportunity for 2nd opinion. We are very happy with the service here and recommend to other dog owners when they ask me what vet we go to. I really wanted to love this place, but I've come to see it as a pretty big scam. I have been bringing my dog here for nearly a year and 3 instances really stick out in my mind: 1. I have a 5 year old rescue pug who can get quite nervous at the vet. I brought him in for treatment one afternoon and watched as he struggled the entire time to the point that the techs were not able to finish his bloodwork. They sent us back into the lobby to wait for a bit while they consulted the dr. During that time, my dog was clearly stressed. He had just been poked and prodded. He was shaking and uncomfortable. We moved into a corner to wait when another patron started interacting with my dog. I tried to explain that he was feeling stressed at the moment and to please give us space, but she was insistent because she had a pug too. The receptionist did not step in to help and even coaxed her on as she tried to engage with my dog, give him treats, and pet him when he was shaking / feeling reactive. I had only had him for a month at that point and was worried about his safety and hers when he was in this condition. When her dog was brought out, she went so far as to try to pull my dog over to her to take a picture of him and her dog together. Again, the receptionist watched ALL of this and did not step in to manage even after I asked her multiple times to please step away. 2. I brought my dog for a wet cough about 3 weeks ago. It came on suddenly and was coupled with long episodes of reverse sneezing. We saw his regular doctor who moved through my appointment in 7 minutes, saying this was likely linked to a previous issue even when I pushed back and told her it was very new and had just started. She misdiagnosed him with a parasite (even though he had zero other symptoms of one) and did not give him any cough suppressent, even when I told her he was struggling to breath and was up all night. I came back the next day and finally convinced her to give me the minimum dose of a cough suppresent. She then told me I should have him see an internist and get X-Rays on his chest (something we did 4 months before and were all clear). Seeking a second opinion, I brought my dog to a new vet. In 2 minutes, she asked me if he goes to daycare. When I said he did, she immediately diagnosed him with kennel cough and gave him an antibiotic / upped his cough medicine. He was better in 2 days. How does a vet miss the most basic / common of ailments? I spent over $200 with Modern Animal and gave my dog unnecessary treatment. If I had trusted them, I would have spent much, much more. 3. Though I am moving my dog over to a new vet, he was due for a vaccine booster / it was easy to schedule one last time with Modern due to their proximity to my house. I scheduled a 15 min vet tech (which is free under the plan I already paid for) to get his booster. Two hours before his appointment, I received a note saying the MA needed to reschedule and sent me a link to do so. The next day, I went to confirm the time of his appointment and saw that they rescheduled me not for the 15 vet tech appointment, but for a 30 min, $85 appointment with the doctor! They did all of this without providing any context. I followed up and asked them to reschedule to change it back to a vet tech appointment. They said they would do so and promised to waive the $50 change fee. I changed my appointment again and all seemed well... until, an hour later when I received a notice from the app that I had "Missed my appointment" and would be charged $50. Again and again this place is disappointing and difficult to work with. I suppose this is what you get when you trust your care with a chain propped up by private equity money. read more

The worst clinic EVER. Never take your pets there. Instead of focusing on the actual problem, every single vet there tried to sell extra services -- X-rays, surgeries, unnecessary exams -- while pressuring and frightening pet owners emotionally. One time they performed an anal gland expression on my dog, and afterward she started bleeding. Their doctors immediately tried convincing me it could be cancer and pushed for more tests. After an antibiotic shot, the bleeding stopped completely. Turns out a piece of tissue had simply been ripped during the procedure. And guess what? NO cancer read more

I started taking my cat, Steve, here towards the beginning of 2024. He had a few different health problems, one of which turned out to be hyperthyroidism. Modern Animal helped diagnose him, get a prescription for his medicine, and gave us insight along the way. Steve unfortunately took a sudden turn for the worse and passed away the day after his last visit at Modern Animal and just a week after I had finally signed up for their membership (so he only went to two appointments as a member). After Steve passed away, Modern Animal was able to refund me the $199 membership cost since I didn't get the full benefits of it and cancelled the subscription for me so I didn't have to deal with it. They also easily refunded me a $250 deposit I put on a dental procedure that he never got to have. I thought everything was closed out, but to my surprise, I got a beautiful orchid delivered to my doorstep yesterday (exactly a week after he passed away) from Modern Animal along with a note with their condolences. That gesture meant so much to me, especially as I'm still grieving and missing him. I highly recommend Modern Animal, and specifically their Glendale location.
