Apparently no one updated their records that I actually picked up the coat two days ago. Oops! I explained my experience to her and she apologized lukewarmly, so adding a star to total two stars. _________________________ Original review 8/9/15: I'm highly disappointed with the Burberry Chicago store, although I think the brand is great. In short, I went to the store for a coat hem alteration (sounds simple, right?), and ended up having to dry clean it, pay $40, call twice, and actually visit the store to find/pick it up. No notification or apologies from anyone in the store. If I had known, I would not have done the alteration here. Most importantly, the whole experience felt like a obstacle course. First they told me the alteration would be free, then that I needed to have it dry cleaned first, then that someone would call me when it was ready, then when I called the store they didn't pick up. When I go to Forever 21, I don't expect great service--I know it's going to be crowded, hot, and I need to find another size myself. I didn't expect that from Burberry. Oh man, i really want to love this place. It looks so wonderful from the outside but the layout inside is confusing. I get it, its arranged by collection, but still... I don't have to like it. The staff is a little over eager for me. There is a fine line between accommodating and annoying... they tend to cross that line. However, bought a pair of shoes this weekend and Cathy assisted us. After years of pining away for a Burberry trench, I finally found myself in the Michigan Avenue store and ready to make a purchase. My friend and I started off looking at the quilted coats, which I didn't think would be my style at all. They were actually very cute and flattering, and I may be back at some point down the road for one. A saleswoman approached us soon after we entered the store, and she couldn't have been nicer. I've been to a lot of high-end designer shops in New York, Paris, and Italy (although I did NOT purchase something at these stores ... well, a few, but not all), and I've experienced some horrid service. This was not the case at Burberry. The saleswoman brought out a number of trench coats, and she was very knowledgeable when it came to describing the different styles, cuts, fits, etc. After trying on a bunch of very cute coats, I decided to go with the classic trench. Before we left, the saleswoman gave us both the business card for a dry cleaner that is used by both Burberry and Louis Vuitton. All in all, it was a great experience that left me feeling like I made a great purchasing decision. Oh, and I LOVE the coat!! read more

I just wanted to tell you about my amazing experience at the Michigan Avenue location in Chicago, Illinois. I was very excited to head into Burberry as I've always loved the classic and classy look and feel of Burberry. I recently was promoted to my first "real" job and as a gift to myself I was going to finally buy myself the scarf I've been coveting! My best friend came with me and she has purchased cosmetics there before so we headed to the make-up counter to scope out the new products. Sam greeted us and helped us immediately. I work in the beauty industry so I was very interested in seeing what your products have to offer. After Sam finished applying make up on my friend, I asked her about the brow pencil and she used that on me! It's so simple and amazing. She also used some other products on me, the contouring pen, concealer, and a little bit of bronzer. It was amazing! I looked just like me only better and I couldn't even feel the make-up. I did not expect to love it as much as I did. Sam was very knowledgeable and helpful in showing us how to best use the products. I mentioned that I wanted a scarf and she walked us to the scarf bar. I was on the fence between two different styles and she helped me pick the best one for my style. I had some questions about monogramming and she helped me with that as well. I decided against monogramming and went ahead with the purchase of the scarf. I'm so thankful for all of the help Sam gave me. She is an excellent ambassador for your brand and I just wanted you to know that she is a stellar saleswoman. If every one of your employees are as excellent as she is then you guys have must have one amazing team. read more

Mothers day is right around the corner so we decided to get our mom a purse from Burberry. The store is modern which is nice, the outside architecture on the building is pretty nice also having the signature print. When we walked in we were greeted by the sales associate. She could have been a but more helpful and knowledgeable about the pieces. We decided to go with the small canter. We were pleased with our choice and the customer service. Over all great experience, sales associate could have been a bit more knowledgeable. read more

I was looking for a side vented well fitting suit, I needed it in a hurry. I visited Burberry with $1200 to spend for the right suit. I waited in the shop for half an hour at a quiet time, being watched by a sales assistant who never approached me. I am European, and so have low expectations, however I have never experienced such poor service. Burberry should be aware that this is an issue, I thought I was being paranoid, however I did notice others here who had similar experiences. There is an uncomfortable culture of indolence, and a sneering, coarse attitude. Bad for business in this day and age. Brooks brother's got my money, thanks to their great sales guy. read more

I wish I could say that my experience at this Burberry was due to an employee having an "off-day," but when it is ~7 employees? There is a definite problem with the attitude of the staff here. I walk into the store with a clear purpose (to make a definite purchase), yet maybe I didn't look rich enough?? Right off the bat, two workers make eye contact with me as I walk in, pretend like they didn't see me, then walk away. I turn to my left, there are two male workers. They are socializing with each other and pretend I don't exist. I have to approach them to ask which floor I need to go to. I get to my desired floor, and there are three workers there. SAME THING! They first look at me, then pretend like I don't exist. For the sake of my own time (because I had to make this purchase and didn't have the luxury of time to come back another day or go to another store), I went ahead to make the purchase and leave the store. However, regardless of the sum of money I spent, I can't say that the way they treated me changed. As much as I love Burberry's items, I will never be returning to this store. No beautiful piece of clothing is worth feeling this degraded, condescended upon, dirty, etc. read more

I love Burberry and was happy when my husband realized he had forgotten his tie for the wedding we were attending close by. My adult children and I walked in and were greeted. We asked for the men section and were told where to go. That was the first and last time anyone acknowledged us. We were ignored at every single floor and when I finally found a tie I had to hunt down someone so I could pay for it. I saw many associates being helpful to other customers and the store did not seem that busy so we also saw employees not doing much . So of course I have to think that the color of my skin was enough to be ignored. Stay away from this location. read more

I visited Burberry on Friday (5/4) and Saturday (5/5). Visiting this particular Burberry store was one of my best shopping experiences. I wanted to get a pair of high quality jeans, a wallet, and a pair of casual shoes. When I visited on Friday, the store was closing in five minutes so I decided to return on Saturday. Mario greeted me both days. He was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the products. He helped me find the right size but still gave me time to look around. The prices seemed high but they were very well made. Even though I ended up taking only one pair of jeans, I will definitely return for more. read more

This is an iconic store design with all the fabulous Burberry line beautifully displayed. It is, of course, very pricey. But if you want the Burberry's look, this is the place to go. Staff have always been polite when we've been in the store, though from other reviews, it looks like this might not always be the case, especially when dealing with tailoring or customer service. Yeah... Folks in the store location are just rude. Here I am in the market for my (former) favorite watch brand and it's like they don't want to take my money. This experience was over the phone which is equally frightening because my previous in-store review was ravishing either. I tried and tried calling yesterday to no avail and I tried again twice today. The first answer started off fine; she found (or so I thought) the watch I requested and transferred me to the watch specialist (who never picked up the line). After 10 minutes, I hung up and dialed again. This lady explained it's actually a call center and not the 312 store number I dialed. Hmm that's an intermediate step I don't appreciate but what can I do? She tried to transfer me to the store but nobody answered. She came back on the line and tried to help me herself but she COULDN'T find the style the previous lady supposedly found. Okaaaaay... So she tried again and successfully transferred me to the store. This dude was straight up rude. "Hello." That's all I got. Umm, "hello is this Burberry, are you located in a store, perhaps the one on Michigan Ave, do you have a name, are you on the phone to help me?" Nope, just "hello" like I was his homegirl he was chatting with on his break. #getoutofhere I describe the watch and give the model number. He has the nerve to be like "Ohhhh no, that's old, we definitely don't have that in the store anymore" All disgusted that I would even ask. Dang. Welp, I think it's a fly watch and could easily get it from (Neiman, Nordstrom, Macy's) instead jerk. As a matter of fact, I'm not shopping at this location period. read more

5 stars for the best customer service yesterday--the best I've received in a long time! I had a small tear that was forming along the seam of my coat and brought it in at 5:30pm. I was greeted by two salespeople who asked the manager to come over to take a look. Within a minute of speaking with the manager (Christina), she took me upstairs, talked with the in-store tailor, and advised me that it would be done in about 30 minutes if I wanted to wait. I had dinner plans and was expecting the repair to take days, so I said I would just return the next day to pick it up. It turned out, he had already started and was practically finished during our quick conversation. All in all, I was out the door with my coat repaired, hanging in a garment bag, by 5:45pm- I still can't believe it. It was such a positive experience that's missing in retail nowadays-they were warm, helpful, fast and efficient. It's why I'm loyal to the Burberry brand--you get what you pay for and I look forward to patronizing the Chicago store again soon. read more

Burberry is the epitome of fashion since Andrea Ahrendts and Christopher Bailey took the reigns. They have sparked innovation and integrated technology in operations, infusing the brand that was once called stuffy and antiquated with new life. That said, it is evident I love Burberry. The Chicago store is an architectural masterpiece, and the layout is beautiful. They have a tremendous amount of product and are willing to ship and order anything you request. I recently stopped in with my pregnant sister and by brother-in-law and we were looking at baby items. This is probably the best department in the store in terms of friendly service. We looked at baby items, and the sales associate Rob was outstanding. Individuals on the other floors have varied from moderately nice to quite stand-offish. We were fine in terms of attire, dressed for a typical shopping day, but I agree with others that point out you should be treated well irrespective of your age, race, sex, religion, or attire. I understand that it's not Nordstrom and they don't have customer service standards, but it certainly would help. We proceeded to view trench coats as I have been debating about one for quite some time. The tremendously RUDE associate insisted that there were no Burberry London, Heritage, or Prorsum jackets in any variation of olive or military khaki (green) in stock anywhere and that there had not been any available for at least a year. I insisted that I had just tried one on within the past few weeks and politely offered to show him online where I had just seen the jacket as well. He insisted I should go to the Brit floor where I might find something more adequate. I was appalled that he wouldn't even look. If you want to try and test me on Burberry knowledge or product knowledge sir, ensure that you know yours. I might only be 30, but I assure you I know more than you do about this brand. Listen to your customers, you might have more of them. A company should not rely simply on the fact that the brand could sell itself. If that is the case, they should shut down stores and simply provide service online. eCommerce within your organization is booming, and maybe that's part of the reason why. I do not go shopping to be treated with condescension, so mind your manners and take note from young Rob in the children's area... he'll teach you a few things. read more

I have always worn Burberry and truly love their style. However, today I went into the store on the Magnificent Mile wearing casual clothing. I was approached immediately by a sales woman and asked if they could help me find something, I said no thank you because I was just browsing. This comment was received with the most unusual stare, as if I had two heads. I continued to look on the first floor then decided to make my way to the women's clothing on the second floor, at this point I was stopped by the same woman and asked if there was something specific I needed, I again said no and is the ladies clothing on the second floor. She didn't answer my question and again asked is there something you need. I walked up the stairs to the second floor and continued to look around finding a few things that would look great for the fall season. At this point the same lady came up the elevator on the opposite side of this level and I felt her following me while she was texting. I decided I would stick to buying my Burberry from down the street at Sacs. I get that they are trying to prevent theft but don't they teach these sales people how to make a sale? read more

Lately I've been obsessed with buying something from Burberry, so I decided to stop in there while walking around downtown Chicago with my fiance last weekend. The store was moved a little bit down the street due to construction in their normal location, but the temporary store was still just as nice. The employees were very nice while in there, but we were never greeted when we first walked in. Although everyone else who walked in after us seemed to get a nice "hello" by their door greeter. Or whoever he was. The only issue I had with this store was the sales person Tina who helped me out. She was probably the flakiest salesperson I've ever had to deal with. I asked her if they had the Nova Check tote that I had seen online so I could check it out in person and she looked at me like I was crazy and had no idea what I was talking about and started showing me some other bag that she thought might be it. She finally went online to see what bag I was talking about and told me they did have the bag in stock, but didn't bother getting it from the back when I asked her if I could look at it. I decided to keep looking around to see if there was anything that I might be interested in buying as a little gift for myself. I decided that I wanted to get a small Nova Check cosmetic bag and asked Tina what other colors it came in besides the 1 on display. She said the only other color they had was black, so I told her that I would get the gold one instead. This time she looked at me like I was crazy (again) and laughed a little while saying to me "umm, that's not gold, it's silver". Actually, the little bag is gold and it doesn't come in silver at all. How in the world does someone who is an employee of Burberry not know what type of bag their company sells or the colors their accessories are in??? I understand that Burberry has a ton of products that are always changing, but shouldn't you know the products you're trying to sell?? I'm not sure if Tina was new or having a bad day or whatever, but the only way I can describe her is ditzy. She was very nice though and not pushy at all. I did like that a lot about her. I did have a good experience there, but I probably won't be back to get anything else from Burberry because after looking at their products and actually feeling them, they just seem cheap to me. The new Burberry store is stunning. The outside is amazing, however the only wow factor on the inside is the staircase with it's amazing lucite sculptural wall. The rest is kind of bland. I guess you would want the focus to be on product however. The employees are mostly polite and friendly. I am giving it only three stars because the temporary location had a better selection with more interesting items. This selection is very conservative and boring. I feel like you could find these items anywhere that carries this brand. I wanted to be wow'd by the selection like you are when you see the outside of the new store, but instead once I was inside I was just bored. read more

I stopped in the store last Friday looking for some assistance with a Burberry jacket I received as a gift that started falling apart after only wearing it a handful of times. The salesperson was terribly rude and kept telling me I should ask the person that purchased the coat for the receipt!? She told me it was store policy that she could not assist me without the receipt and that calling Burberry would make no difference. It's a Burberry quilted jacket, so I'm still unclear as to why Burberry won't stand behind the craftsmanship of their own product. I repeatedly told her that I felt uncomfortable asking the person that purchased the coat for proof of the purchase due to the reason that their gift was now falling apart, so I asked her where they send the coats to be serviced ... her response was that it was VERY expensive and she would not tell me. I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman when the salesperson told her that the dress was VERY expensive. My experience made me want to leave the store to never return, ever again. I would be happy to live the rest of my life never having to do business with Burberry again. read more

Attempted to shop here today with my two kids and my niece and my nephew. Upon entering this store, we were looked at by sales people as if we were country bumpkins or had an extra head. I felt just like Julia Roberts did in the movie "pretty woman" when she was refused service at an upscale store. Now mind you, I was dressed in a stylish normal pair of carpi's and sandals, a nice top, jewelry, tennis bracelet, etc. My kids were dressed in the normal name brand attire for their age and we were dressed appropriately. We all noticed the attitude of the sales people, so I know that I was not being overly sensitive. For the first time in my life, I got a glimpse of what discrimination feels like, and was totally stunned at how I felt. I was so upset that as tired as I was upon returning home after shopping all day in downtown Chicago, I felt that I had to sign up to write this, (totally out of character for me by the way) I also plan to make a phone call to the store manager tomorrow. Ironically, little do these snobby people know that my husband and I own a family business,and our total sales last quarter could probably match Burberry's dollar for dollar. I work downtown on Michigan Avenue, just about 6 blocks south of the Burberry stop. And, since I do love me some Burberry, I pop in about every 3-4 months. Usually because I know from my online research exactly what I want and not going to bother going in there to just browse. My last trip into the store was yesterday, I went to buy my second trench coat from them. I bought a Burberry Brit trench last fall and like it, but think the Brit line is over priced and the stuff is made in like China. So this time, I decided to go for the men's heritage trench. I knew that making the $2,000.00 purchase with tax was going to happen if the coat fit me exactly how I wanted it. I went up to the fifth floor, it was pretty low key around 2pm, a really nice guy said hi, I told him exactly what I was there for. He got ready all of the options I might want ie color and size, got me a beverage and had me sit down while he got the stuff. Carlos was nothing but nice, and ive always had good customer service there in general. Maybe its because I am there for a no nonsense visit and i buy what I come for. read more
