Was it the best brisket that I've ever had? No, but it's good. Did they have the best BBQ sauces I've ever had? No, but they were good. Was the service top notch? No, but it was acceptable. And that really is the feel you get in here. The place is good. Just not the greatest of all time. If you're in Richmond and you want to stop for some BBQ, go with it. But I wouldn't describe it as a destination if it's out of the way. The one place it shined, and the reason I'm going four stars above three, is with the sides. This place was very good!! So I tried the sampler plate and wow was it a great value for the price. I tried the brisket, pulled chicken, and jalapeño cheddar sausage. For sides I did the spicy beans, potato salad, and corn bread. The sausage was my favorite, it was just so juicy and the flavor was out this world. As for the brisket I didn't know I could ask for the fatty piece but it was good but if I did it again I'd try another piece. The pulled chicken was good and it was even better when I put some of the homemade spicy bbq sauce on it. The spicy beans were amazing full of flavor and the heat was perfect. The cornbread was literally delectable lol!! I love that they put corn in it and it was moist. The potato salad was a little not my style too much mustard for me. Straight From Texas had really good BBQ. I got carry out and the lady that checked me out was very nice. I ordered the combo with brisket, ribs, pork, and turkey. When she took the lid off of the pork I saw smoked bologna under the same lid and immediately changed my order. I told her to forget the turkey and I would substitute the smoked bologna for that. I had the macaroni & cheese (very good) and the chuck wagon beans (mid) as my sides. They let you pick your sauce and give you the option of onions, pickles and jalapeño. I got some of the sweet and some of the spicy sauce with jalapeño and pickles. My son did the same except he got onions too and instead of the beans he got the tater salad, which he really liked. When I got back to his place with the food I found out she substituted my ribs for the bologna (only reason for no fifth star) but the food was so good it didn't bother me as much as it would have otherwise. The portion sizes were also good and if you enjoy bbq I definitely recommend. read more

A small place and not busy on this Friday night, which was surprising because the barbecue is solid. It's "Texas barbecue" so I went with the brisket. The cook asked if I minded it being mostly moist, which I definitely did not. It was not nearly as fatty as I expected, turning out to be quite delicious. At the table, I dug into the meal. A good portion of brisket which did need a tiny bit of sauce to bring out the flavor. With a big portion of excellent mac & cheese that was cheesy with firm noodles and a great flavor. Overall it was a good experience. I came later in the day for the Texas sampler which was probably a bad idea as the wings were on the cold side. I'm sure if I had got them fresh it would have been good. Same goes for the brisket, my friend and I both got that and it was a bit cold which affected the flavor. The pulled pork is good as well as the ribs, and I like the Mac and cheese. Wasn't a big fan of the coleslaw but that is a taste that goes from person to person. The staff was Longhorn friendly and super accommodating. We each had the brisket "loose"(that's what they call no bun). It was mouth watering, taste bud exhilarating meat that makes me wish I was there at this very moment. They have all the southern fixins...Cole slaw, baked beans, collard greens, green beans, etc. All of them, and I mean ALL of them, were like Grandma used to make. Delish. We ordered brisket and pulled pork to go along with sides of Mac n chz, baked beans, and potato salad. Ordered over the phone and everyone was very courteous. Unfortunately they forgot our baked beans and even though it was 15 min til close they offered to bring the beans to my house and also included some cherry cobbler because of the mistake, so the service and hospitality is top notch. The BBQ was very good and had a good smoky flavor. I did not get to sample all the sauces but enjoyed the spicy sauce. Our sides were all very good. Stopped in on our way back to WV, after visiting a local dealership. It's a small place, rustic like, but their food does not disappoint! They didn't have many selections (they were closing early for a rehearsal dinner), but what we had was amazing!!
