My wife and I went here after reading reviews on Yelp and thought we'd give it a try. We were greeted by Jeff who works there. Super friendly guy. He informed us they were out of brisket. A big order had been placed prior to our visit. All the more reason for us to return. We both had the rib sandwiches and they were fall off the bone, flavored perfectly and the homemade sauce was awesome! It is an authentic bbq place. Jeff gave us the history of how Smitty's started. It started out as a food truck and grew into a brick and mortar restaurant. It is well worth the trip. If you are near Richmond, KY you will not regret it. read more

The food was delicious! Ms Bonnie makes the most amazing brisket (says it takes 3 days for her process) that is by far the best I have had in a long, long time. I also got the catfish and you don't need to add anything to it , it's that good. They were such amazing people to chat with and they make it feel like home when you talk with them. Went for the first time today, I got the mailman and it was the best sandwich I've ever had, definitely will be back.

We've lived here in Richmond for 2 years and did not know about this hidden gem. My husband and I got the pulled pork, which was so tender it nearly melted in your mouth and the Smitty's sauce was EXCELLENT. We also had baked beans, potato salad and mac and cheese, all of which were fantastic. The Mac and cheese was so creamy and the potato salad and the baked beans were the best we've ordered anywhere. The service was wonderful. Very sweet ladies. It's not a 5-star as far as appearance, but it IS clean and we love this kind of atmosphere. It's homey. If you love barbecue, you have to eat here. I have been to so many BBQ places in Lexington and Richmond. Some are good, some are meh, some just don't deserve your time. But Smitty's? Amazing. Drive down East Irvine Street, around a couple of big curves, until you come to a large, white building. I admit, I almost drove right by it, but thank goodness for GPS! The smoker's right in front, so you can also look for that. The inside isn't fussy, but the tables are clean and the food is good. Pulled pork sandwich, 5 bucks. Add a side like mac and cheese and a drink for 2 more, and it's well worth it (they don't skimp on their portions). I even had some leftover today, microwaved it, and it was still so juicy and delicious. If something can survive the microwave without drying out, it's GOOD. read more

We are traveling from Chicago to Tennessee and we stopped here to eat some cheap barbecue food and was pleasantly surprised. It does not look like much (inside and out of the store) but the food was great. We both got pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw and baked beans. Hands down the best BBQ I have ever had and I live in southern Virginia and have experienced lots of BBQ. The BBQ meat was juicy even without sauce, but the sauces (yes, two options) were just as tastey. The flavor of the BBQ was unique and moist while being simple and everything you want out of BBQ. Went to "Smitty's" for the first time yesterday afternoon. Had a Groupon. Ordered Brisket sandwich. They were out. Got the pulled pork sandwich with beans, mac and cheese and slaw as the sides. Smitty's makes there own sauce and it was out on the tables. Excellent sauce! Pulled pork sandwich was succulent to the degree that it didn't need any sauce to be amazing. Sides were fantastic. Slaw took some getting used to but by the end I was loving it. Baked beans and macaroni and cheese were both amazingly good. No barbecue in my home town (Morehead) can compare. Walked in at around 12:05pm on a Thursday for lunch. The person working at the time was doing something else behind the counter and didn't acknowledge that I had walked in. The storm door slammed behind me when I walked in, so it wasn't that they didn't hear me come in. No big deal. However, I stood at the counter waiting to place an order for about 5 minutes. Never got an "I'll be right with you" or explanation that it would be a minute before they could get to me. There were no other customers in the establishment, so it wasn't that they were too busy. I walked out after the 5 minutes waiting to place an order, never receiving any acknowledgement that I was even there. Would give zero stars based on my experience today if it were an option. Common courtesy for a would-be customer was severely lacking today. I obviously can't speak for the food, but look elsewhere if you want some semblance of customer service. read more

So, initially after following the GPS to the gray concrete building, we were a little unsure. Once we went in and found no AC, we were very unsure. However, the smell of the smoke and the friendliness of this family, made us jump right in to a family feast for 6-8. (There were only 4 of us ;). The brisket was superb! The pulled pork, baked beans and green beans were very good! Wish they would not have been out of mac and cheese and Cole slaw. We will have to save those for next time. We will definitely be back!
