Burgers here are pretty average, nothing to write home about. It was a bit messy too, got a bunch of sauce on me. Would probably skip it.

Food is fresh, made quickly and can be customized to your liking! I loved their vege burger and they have awesome sweet potato fries.

Came for brunch. The chicken & waffles were some of the best I have ever eaten. The chicken was seasoned and obviously made in house. The ratio of batter to chicken was perfect. Soooo wanted to truly LOVE this place. Staff was friendly. Seems like they could find a way to expedite the ordering process though. Line was long and slow, and when we left, the line was ridiculously long. And was not moving quickly at all. Ordering seems to have people in line, baffled...and with only one register and order taker, it is a tedious process. Have to say that it was the first night of Cruising Grand, so lots of people were out for this local car show event. Side note on the Cruising Grand timing, WOWZERS, if you want to sit outside prepare for LOUD pipes. And exhaust fumes. Okay, all that aside and if you do love this place, you could overlook this and/or come other than a Cruising Grand night? So on to the food, we split the Classic Burger, also the Wings, and a 1/2 & 1/2 order of Tots and Onion Rings. Sadly the latter was our favorite thing. Burger is on the small side, and not a lot of flavor, rather bland. The brioche style bun is usually our favorite kind but this one was sort of oddly greasy on the top. Wings were ehhhh. Not bad and not good. And nothing was crave-able. Nice beer selection. Restrooms were clean and had hot water, something we always look for. So.. we are glad we went. Didn't hate it, but didn't love it. And we love supporting local businesses, but not in a huge hurry to return, there are others to try out. And hopefully love! read more

We came here on a whim since we've never really explored Escondido. Got seated immediately and ordered at the counter. My husband had a burger with chorizo and I had the smokehouse. We also tried their mini corn dogs (a pass for me) and the Parmesan truffle tots (a pass for me as well) but the burgers were fantastic. Staff was really kind. Parking in this area is iffy because so many restaurants take up the parking spots with their pseudo patios. Be prepared for that. Would def come back. read more

I would like to update my previous review after coming back to burger bench today, as the experience was much different and deserves to be recognized. We did a takeout order with a taco salad, chicken Caesar salad, grilled chicken sliders, and the cheeseburger kids meal, the tater tots were crispy and delicious as they've always been known to be, the kids meal was PERFECT. (I know it's good when my toddler actually eats his food) and both salads were some of the best I've had in Escondido. Portions are great and everything is fresh. The chicken club was perfect and the service was fast and very pleasant. They were very quick to make the last experience right and they exceeded my expectations. read more

Probably my favorite burger place of all time! I'm a sucker for brioche bun-ed burgers, and their garlic aioli is a MUST every time. They have a wide selection of burgers and chicken sandwiches (grilled and fried). I've tried a good handful of them - the classic, bench burger, sunrise, swiss mushroom, california turkey, grilled chicken, and golden rooster. You can't go wrong with the classic or golden rooster. I also really like that you can also get an impossible or beyond patty substituted in any burger on the menu! It's just a little pricey. The burgers are a little on the smaller side, but I also don't eat a whole lot, so I think it's a good size, and I usually share the patty melt. I also always get half & half of tots and either regular or sweet potato fries. They also have a pretty good beer selection with usually a couple kombuchas too. read more

I love the fact that they have a variety of burgers that I can get in mini slider form. It's like being able to have a taste of a few. One of my favorites is the fig and Brie burger, I feel like the fig compliments the Brie in a wonderful way. I ordered the chicken sandwich, fig and Brie burger, and cheeseburger sliders. All were tasty and I can't wait to try the others. Then there's the garlic Parmesan fries and mini corn dogs. I feel like it's the best of both worlds. The fries were crispy and delicious. Came here with a couple of friends over the weekend. They raved about this place. So, I had to come and try it for myself. My family and I got a few things to share. Sunrise Burger: Thick smoked bacon, sunny side up egg, crunchy tots, cheddar cheese, and their famous bench sauce. This was surprisingly delicious. I'm not an egg person but this was good. Smokehouse Burger: Thick smoke bacon, crunchy onion straws, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and bbq ranch sauce. Soooo good. This one was my favorite. Swiss Mushroom: Grilled mushrooms, Swiss cheese, house garlic aioli. This was also really good. If mushroom is your thing, this would be the perfect choice. My son, who rarely eats mushroom, loved this burger. They have a sliders option. You can order one or 3. Actually, you can keep adding if you'd like. Truffle Parmesan Fries: Hand tossed truffle, sea salt, and parmesan fries. Topped with fresh parsley. This was also really good. Would recommend as a side option with the burgers. Now let's talk about the milkshakes. Their milkshakes were awesome. So good! My son and I shared an Oreo milkshake. They offer a lot of other fun things like a "grown up root beer". One of the best burger places in all of San Diego county. We are big fans of trying burger joints everywhere to see who has the best, and we have yet to find anything close to Burger Bench in Esco. Love that I can get Impossible with any item, and my family can get their meat. Love their fries & tots. Great sauces that they make in-house. They have the BEST milkshakes, and their selection of on-tap beers is awesome. We love the cute space, which is usually packed with families, seniors, couples and even the solo eater. Love the outside tables on the street so we can even bring the dog. First time we brought our guy the staff ran a dog bowl of water over for him. Such a great place! read more

The strawberry banana milkshake was a great choice! With strawberry ice cream and fresh bananas in it. It did not take long to get the food and the atmosphere was cool on a Saturday night. My absolute favorite burger place in Escondido. I've been here over 20 times. I am never disappointed. The people that work here are incredibly thoughtful and even though it's busy, it's worth the wait. Everything I've tried has been so tasty. My favorite thing is to get the three slider sampler and try a bunch of different ones. I absolutely love their Parmesan fries with the Garlic Aeoli sauce. The last time I went, I ordered a kombucha, and it ended up tasting really awful to me. I went to the bar, and no questions asked, the girl took back my drink and asked me what else I wanted. They were extremely accommodating and made my visit pleasant. I will be a Burger Bench fan for life. read more

Food was decent. We had one burger and one chicken Sandwich which were tasty. Okay beer list with one high quality IPA and some other just okay breweries. Employees are nice though when I asked for catsup The server said oh yeah, it's over there in self-serve so in essence, go get it yourself . That was a bit off putting. In my opinion, for what you get, the prices are very high. You're paying in the area of 12 bucks for a burger or a chicken sandwich +5 bucks for fries so by the time you have a beer with it, it's $30. Difficult to justify those prices for this type of food. Don't think I would be back. Not to mention, we were eating there on a weekday afternoon at 4 o'clock and there is no happy hour of any kind. Seems odd as they are not packing them in at that hour. We went for the first time tonight and this place will not disappoint! They have so many options of gourmet style burger choices with really good options. They also have so many sides and sandwiches. I got a salad tonight and they were great with customizing my diet options. The other great items they have are their shakes. Our friends got the chocolate banana strawberry and my husband got the St. Patty's Chocolate Chip shake. They looked so good with the Whipped cream on top. I was starving, I ordered one thing, a bench burger to go. Opened it up before I left to check, it was a sunrise burger. Took it back the guy said he would expedite it, took the same amount of time to come out (30min total). When it was ready they just called my name, didn't apologize or try anything to smooth it over. I mean throw me a handful of fries or something so I don't have sit there starving waiting for an order that the 2 names are not even close so obviously they hit the wrong button. Sat there and ate cuz I was starving and I had to play drums at a local bar in 30 mjn.. Customer service needs a lot of work. Was only my second time here...prob won't be back. read more

This is a local Escondido gem. The food is good ol' American comfort food but with a rich twist of flavor combos. This isn't a bait and switch type of place either. The pictures are to the foods scale. But the pictures don't do the flavors of the food justice. I have been here a few occasions and have tried both chicken burgers and last night I got the black bean burger with crispy tots. And yes the tots ARE crispy!! This is a must for me! I hate soggy tots. I went in the restaurant to place an order to go. Upon entering you walk up to the counter to order. It did take several minutes to get my order in because the guys in front of me didn't know what beer they wanted. However, the guy was able to break away for a moment to come grab my order. Once the order was placed the food was out in less than 10 minutes. I sat outside under the heat lamps while I waited. Once I got the food, I could feel the heat through the bag so I rushed home to dig in. At first glance, I could tell the black bean patty isn't your average frozen burger from Costco. It appeared to be handmade. The flavor of the burger was really good and I especially like the arugula lettuce they use versus other places regular iceberg type lettuce. The amount of tots in a bag are.. a lot. There was no way I could eat that full burger and whole bag of tots. Half the bag is what I would compare to a large fries someplace else (for reference). The tots were as promised hot and crispy. Looking forward to my next visit to try that Brie and Fig jelly sandwich yummm. read more

BURGER BENCH! I looked up this place for my husband who is gluten free. You can tell it's a fun local place to hang out, get a drink, etc. Very casual and cool. I got the bacon cheese melt (WOW) with bacon in there longer than my arm. Thick too. I got the tomato soup as well (didnt care for it but everyone else at the table did). It was hot and cheesy! My mom got the mini corndogs and she said the batter was the perfect corndog kind and we shared the tater tots which were DELICIOUS! You could get truffle flavor fries or tots. My husband got the gf chorizo diablo which he RAVED about so it must have been pretty amazing! Really don't get the hype. Maybe it's a "locals" spot but we were very underwhelmed, especially after reading all the rave reviews. My bf got the Golden Rooster and I was initially very excited to get sliders. Not too many places offer sliders, let alone ones you get to individually pick however it did not go well. My sliders consisted of the Fig Jam, Golden Rooster and Chorizo, all of which were dry and lackluster, like making them smaller didn't translate well. The true star was their dipping sauce of all things. I would buy just bottles of that. The Golden Rooster sandwich was fine but missing something... maybe more sauce? I've had a lot of chicken sandwiches and unfortunately this one was on the lower tier for me. They definitely look delicious sadly it doesn't translate to the actual taste. read more

We went on a Thursday evening as we had about 90 min to kill . Patio was full but indoor seating had a table or two open . The host seats you and then you order from a cashier . Our table had a small view of a tv showing football . The bartender was kind and brought our beers out quickly . I can't remember what burger friend ordered but he said it was fine . My trio of sliders were ok . Cute little things but not sure memorable enough to try again. The patties were a bit too well done . The buns were cold so not sure if that's the norm . The burgers on yelp made me come! I was excited to see they offered both the impossible and beyond patties. When I saw that on the menu, I just knew I had to come. I got the sunrise burger with impossible. It looked amazing but after I took the first bite, I couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed. The brioche bun was slightly dry and dense. It made the bite not as juicy as I wanted from a burger. Overall it lacked a bit of salt as well. That being said the fries and tater tots were well-seasoned. The burger however will not stop me from going though. I definitely want to come back to try it again but with the beyond patty since that patty comes with its own inherent flavor. That and the patty melt, grilled cheeses and tomato soup. Will update the review after I've tried more options! :) read more

Very high-quality burgers. A little pricier than standard pub burgers but the beef and bun were of exceptional quality. Sides are extra, seem a little on the expensive side. Decent beer selection, a variety of lagers / ales / IPAs. It's a fairly small storefront with patio tables. Order at the counter or sit at the bar. It was pretty busy on a Sunday night but everyone seemed to be able to find seating at individual tables, communal tables or the bar. They have two rows of patio tables. The tables closest to the door have infrared heaters overhead. The tables closest to the sidewalk would be nice on a warm summer evening. read more
