Even if I didn't get a double patty, my burger was still significantly bigger than say a McDonald's cheeseburger. We also ordered a mushroom burger which was a double patty burger w sautéed mushrooms. Both burgers were nice, juicy and with the right amount of char on the edges of the patties. Smashed burgers are really good because the Maillard reaction that sizzles and chars the Brgr on the grill. Add onions, a little seasoning, you got yourself a tasty Brgr. Brgr Shack has almost perfected the smashed burger grilling and I appreciate the unique style of giving you a selection of variations of a the Brgr to choose from. 1) Shack Brgr: very tasty and the grilled onions was a nice addition. The Maillard reaction still produced a very juice Brgr with a soft tasty bun. The juices soaked into the bottom bun making it a soggy mess. A little salty, but, good. 2) Mushroom & Swiss Brgr: wife ordered this, but, got full on the Beef Loaded Fries (more on that later). Yet, she brought it home and reheated in microwave and she loved it!!! The Brgr reheated well. She said it was still juicy and well seasoned. Must have been good because she ate the whole thing!!! 3) Beef Loaded Fries: well, my wife also loved this and ate half at the Shack. The fries are thick chips, topped with crumbled Brgr, grilled onions, cheese and pickles. This was a favorite for us. The meal was good and filling. Something happened with the order and the kitchen didn't get the order slip. Had to go up and asked and the cook profusely apologized for the mixup. He quickly put our order together in a little over 5 minutes and the counter person also apologized for the inconvenience. Brgr Shack comped an order of plain fries which turned out well because we used those chips to scoop the toppings of the Beef Loaded Fries. The fries underneath got soggy quick. And there was no forks to be found. Stars subtracted for lost order and no forks. Will try again of course. The dining room was clean with ample tables and chairs. Came here on a Wednesday and had their buy 1 brgr get one 50% off which was a killer deal. The place had a simple clean vibe and the menu small and easy. Especially since you see what you're getting with the posters of each food item on the wall. The guy at the front was super nice and even gave us some extra fries for my dad's birthday! This place is a true gem. Don't let its unassuming front fool you, these guys make burgers very well. This is my second time in and both times I'd rate the burger an honest 9/10. The only draw back I have to this place is their menu has so many appealing options that I have a hard time deciding on what to order. So in true indecisive fashion I ordered myself two: the mushroom and Swiss and the pesto burger. Which the staff were nice enough to slice in half for me so I could try them both at the same time. It was decadent, perfectly cooked, cheesy, delicious, and something new and exciting. The shop itself is a modest one, clean, but nothing fancy. Has fun decor all over. I'm really glad the staff has read my review because after my first initial review of the fries, they decided to cook the potatoes a little longer and they stayed extremely crispy even when we got home from doing a pick up order! We decided to try different burgers during this time and got the normal fries to see if there would be a difference. There definitely was, so I really appreciate it!! The fries were so perfect. We come back to try different loaded fries every time. The 3rd visit we got the Flaming Hot Chkn Fries. Oooo my gosh, the garlic sauce was so good and the fries stayed so crispy despite all the toppings; but the spiciness is not to be messed with. The Serrano peppers were so spicy but gave the flavor of the fries such a great taste with the sun-dried tomatoes! We also tried the Chkn Loaded Fries & I actually liked that one the most. BB and i tried this place out a couple of weeks ago. We both had classic burgers with fries. I ordered a side of their garlic sauce, and a side of their cheese sauce. The burgers were delicious. Smash burger style with two patties, not overcooked (medium), cheese, vegetables, mustard and ketchup. Buns were toasted nicely. Their fries are more like crisscut potatoes but were good as well. I liked the garlic sauce; however, the cheese sauce was served refrigerator cold, which I did not like. The inside is quite small, there is only about 4 tables. Man, we really wanted to love this place! I was craving a burger after a long work day and a workout, and Brgr Shack has been on our list for a couple of months now. The cashier was friendly and it wasn't crowded. The food took a little while, but we were happy to wait. Everything looked amazing upon arrival, but to our dismay, the burgers were SO SALTY! My partner even said, "you know it's too salty when I notice, because I love salt!" I wonder if some cooks over season and some under season, because I see other reviews for "salty" OR "bland." I think we would've preferred bland, it was THAT salty. Like mouth-puckeringly, eye-twitchingly salty, somehow. The ingredients on the burgers were tasty, though. Perfectly caramelized onions, for example. The fries were pretty good, although the ranch I requested was not so good. Tasted just like cheap bottled ranch. The Maple Sriracha sandwich sounded great, and looked great, but the flavors felt disjointed. Hidden gem in East Escondido! We're so glad you are here, BRGR Shack! We tried the Classic Burger, Pesto Burger, Chicken Tenders (2 piece), Regular Fries and Loaded Fries (without the meat). Everything was super flavorful. I loved how their fries are cut (rounds / ovals crinkle cut) and seasoned. Everything tastes fresh, homemade and gourmet at the same time - without the gourmet pricing. The burgers come with 2 smashed patties that are perfectly crispy around the edges and juicy in the middle. We threw on an order of the 2 piece chicken tenders to try their chicken and were shocked at how big the pieces were. I was expecting 2 tiny strips of chicken, and it looked like we got 2 chicken breasts. They were peppery and crispy on the outside, and warm and moist on the inside. Everyone loved it. The owner was super friendly, nice and was ready to make recommendations to us as we were deciding what to order. However the onions and 1 tomato were sliced very thick and it kept sliding off the burger with every bite. And only 2 small slices of pickle which I wish there was more of. The setting was good while waiting for the food and it's refreshing to wait in the cold while it's ~90° outside. 3. The food wait for what my partner and I got (2 BrGrs 2 Fries) was not long and was about 16 minutes. 4. The quality of the burgers are good, and each BrGr was how we ordered it. I read that the burgers might be a bit too salty, and when I took a bite, the burger wasn't too salty. The BrGrs themselves were flavorful and not too greasy. Now with the negatives: 1. The fries are not that great, the seasoning on the fries are moreso spicy than flavorful almost like they require sauce to eat. They aren't potato circles as advertised, bummer. 2. This might just be me, but the shack sauce and the ranch that this establishment uses is not good at all. The shack shack sauce that they use tastes just like Lawry's Seasoned salt, which is what they put on their fries, and I cant even put a taste on the ranch. It was just funky. In N Out is still the king when it comes to value, but when you can afford to splurge a little, this place is a good compromise. $11 is cheap for a restaurant quality burger. Let me just start by saying, if you are thinking about going to BRGR SHACK, do it. Don't waste your time reading my review, just go and try it for yourself. I've been thinking about trying this place for a while now and I'm very upset with myself for waiting this long. It's not in the best location for you to see it and decide to stop on a whim just because it's a bit hidden in the Vons parking lot amongst other small businesses, but it's definitely worth giving it a try. Let me start with the fries, or are they chips? I don't know, they are called fries, and they are wonderful. They are sliced like potato chips, but thicker so they have the fry texture. Soft in the middle, crispy on the outside. Honestly they were some of the best fries I've had and unlike any others I've tried. And the fries were only $3.99 and enough for two people to share if I wasn't such a pig. :-) I noticed others commenting on the fries being over seasoned. I will agree with that. I think they use a cajun seasoning or like an Old Bay seasoning on the fries and it was a bit much. They could probably cut that in half. For your first time, I would ask for the fries plain and get a side of the seasoning. Now the burger. I got their basic double-smash burger. Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Pickles, Ketchup, and Mustard. No mayo for me because I don't really like it. It was very very good. Nice texture to the meat like any good smash burger patty should have. Crisp on the edges. The bun was kind of like a potato bun or maybe a brioche. Either way, I very much liked it. $11.99 is pretty standard for a gourmet burger like this. In line with Smash Burger, 5 Guys, etc... BTW, they have like 40 different toppings available if you want to make your own Frankenstein burger too. Lastly, I decided to get 2 chicken strips to give then a try. I'm a sucker for a good tender. These tenders were some of the best I've ever had. They were very juicy and tender with a nice crispy and flavorful breading. I got a side of their hot sauce. It's basically a thick buffalo sauce. It was also very good. 2 tenders ran me $5.95. That's a little pricey for tenders in my opinion, but you know what, after trying them, I'm ok with the price because I liked them that much. Overall, this place is rather unassuming and kind of plain inside with basic tables and chairs. Nothing special when you walk in. The counter is meh as well, but let me tell you that whatever is happening in that back kitchen is pure magic to my mouth. I haven't been to a "fast food" type of joint like this and enjoyed my food this much in a long time. If you've read this far, why are you still reading and not in your car heading to BRGR SHACK? The person who took my order asked me if it was first time and he told me that the patties were thin smash-burger style and the total meat was about a quarter pound. The burger was delicious.
