I sludged into La Banquise dead sober at 4:11am, as this is a legendary spot that is open 24 hours. I sat down in a bustling no frills atmosphere and remembered my deep appreciation for a 24-hour diner. You see people for who they really are this early in the morning. A couple in front of me was in a heated argument about what "being exclusive" really meant, while two separate groups of 4 to my right were feeling no pain and enjoying a poutine night cap. There I was, sipping on my black coffee mentally prepping myself for the 45 mile (72 km) day I had in front of me. The dichotomy of life. I asked the server what the most popular item was, and he said La Scooby. This monstrosity consisted of fresh cut fries, cheese, gravy, ground beef, bacon, onions, fried pickles, and caesar dressing garlic sauce. I got the small ($12.40 usd), but this thing was a TANK. It was bigger than my head and I have a HUGE head. The large must be a family style portion or somethin. Upon first bite, it was damn good. I completely see the poutine appeal.
