Hawksbill offers a laidback atmosphere to enjoy brews, play games, and have great conversations with friends and staff. The place is very family and dog friendly, making it a great Luray hang out spot. During our recent visit to Luray, the snow was coming down hard and the caverns were closed. With few dog-friendly activities nearby, and our hiking plans cancelled, we decided to check out Hawksbill. My husband and I each got a flight, with a mixture of darks and lights. Overall, we really enjoyed the lighter beers like their saison and kolch. We both weren't too impressed by their stout or port. They were quite watered down and had a hint of licorice taste to them. On Sundays they don't serve food, but the bartender was nice enough to let us get take out and bring it inside to enjoy our beers with. When in Luray, I recommend coming here if you're a beer enthusiast and have your pup with you.

Stopped in here on a Sunday midday and we were practically the only patrons but the bartender was friendly, the IPA I tried was pretty good, and my pup enjoyed chilling on the cool floor and watching people pass by. Wished there were some food options (or that I'd read there weren't before we stopped in) and more brews on tap but, overall, it was a nice spot to spend a couple hours relaxing after a hike in Shenandoah.

$8 flights of 4 tasters? Yes please!! Dog friendly indoors? Check! Great beer? Check! Great prices? Check! Friendly, knowledgeable staff? Check! Welcoming to all? Check! This brewery has all the things that make a great brewery. We're on our way out of town and sought this brewery out for its good reviews and pictures that made us want to see more! We were not disappointed! Definitely worth coming back. The coffee stout was our favorite!

Cute brewery in downtown Luray. Great place to stop and have a couple of beers. Beer selection is diverse enough to find a few worth trying. Very clean interior with plenty of seating.

We stopped in for a quick drink. Hubby had been wanting to try it so he had a few beers. I didn't feel like drinking, so I got the boo beer. Such a cute name, but it's root beer with honey. It was yummy. It had its own place in the tap and came in a tall glass just like the beer so nobody could even tell it's not beer. The inside was nice and open and had a bunch of games to play with. I found a baby boomer trivial pursuit so we played with that for a few min. We didn't know many of the answers. The place is dog friendly as there was a doggy inside. I sat on the floor and played with the dog for a while too. They even have a little play area for kids on the side. We really liked this place and will definitely come back if we're in the area.

Hawksbill Brewing is a must-stop for anyone heading from DC to Shenandoah National Park. Just a quick 15-minute drive west of the Thornton Gap exit on Skyline Drive, it's perfectly located for a refreshing weekend brew! The beer here is top-notch. I usually drink their Hooray for Luray IPA, which is fantastic. They also have another lower alcohol IPA, which is great (I cannot remember the name). I recently tried their Märzen--normally not my go-to style, but it was incredible. The atmosphere is a perfect blend of small-town Virginia charm with a laid-back, hip vibe. The staff are super friendly and make you feel right at home. And --Hawksbill is dog-friendly, which is a big plus for me! The crowd is a great mix of locals and folks from DC enjoying a weekend drive. If you're in the area, especially during leaf-turning season, make sure to stop by Hawksbill Brewing. You won't regret it! Oh yes, forgot something - outdoor area is also real nice for the summer, spring and fall!

It was so good, that I didn't have a chance to take the photo before I drank half the beer.

We are somewhat craft beer snobs. In the past, we have specifically taken week long vacations focused on finding the best beer in an area. (We even traveled 3,000 miles to visit 16 breweries in 2 1/2 days.) COVID put a halt to our beer run vacations; we are so glad that, as more and more people get vaccinated, we are able to venture out. Hawksbill Brewing Company was a great introduction back into the world of craft beer. Enjoy the beers we tried. The saison was superb! If 1/2-stars were allowed, we would rate this place 4 1/2-stars just because the selection was limited. Though on the plus side, there was a nice range of styles and ABV. Too many places only have IPAs with high ABVs. Don't get me wrong, we love a well crafted IPA, but also like to be able to walk after indulging. We loved the atmosphere here! I'm a marathon runner and can see returning to the area for the Luray Half. I'll definitely want to celebrate finishing the race here.

We took a day trip up to Shenandoah National Park for a little hiking, ended up in Luray, and found this place to grab a couple of cold ones. Cool place that has an outdoor seating section and super friendly staff. We are not usually IPA drinkers but that "Hooray for Luray" beer is one of the best we've ever had. We'll be back the next time we are in the area!

They offered both tastings and flights, but my friend and I both chose a glass of Rosé. The staff member had described it as crisp and dry, but it was still a bit too sweet for my preference - not terrible though. We sat on the rocking chairs outside and admired the nice view of green fields. I think they were setting up for a private event in the meantime, because people kept showing up with their own trays of food, and a whole bunch of children and dogs. Overall, we liked the ambiance here but the wine wasn't especially memorable and service was lukewarm.

This place is serene and extremely peaceful and I could probably just sit outside and take everything in for hours. There are a few boardgames to play as well. There aren't a lot of seating inside, but during the daytime, the place was very laid back and not overcrowded. There are no marked parking spaces, but people typically park on the grass and there is ample space for so many cars. The interior of the main building was very simple and "bare bones" but had a homely charm to it and the lovely woman who served our flights was such a gentle, warm person who complemented the peacefulness of the place! My friend and I ended up buying our own bottles of wine and my fiance absolutely loved the Barren Ridge's Touriga wine that I got for him! Will definitely be back to bring him the next time around! Just a great place to take a step back and enjoy some wine!

It was delicious with some onions and what tasted like bacon fat on it. The kiddos got items from the kids' menu - a simple pasta and a small pizza. There was a special while we visited (Oktoberfest, I think) that had some fantastic German items, including a killer schnitzel with sour red cabbage and mashed potatoes. It was fantastic. I got a couple of the on-tap beers and enjoyed them much. There is a respectable cocktail menu (any of them can be made mocktail if you want). One thing I appreciated very much was how family-friendly the place is. Our waitress saw Child #3 starting to melt down and brought him over some toys to play with, commenting that she had kids of her own. Indeed, in the corner, there is a whole table full of toys for kids to play with. Even the bathroom has a full changing table setup, which is way better than those wall changing tables. Overall, a great experience.

I flagged someone over to ask for new water (for the record there was no one dining here and plenty of workers) and the lady stared at me and after 15 seconds said can you repeat that. I said the water tasted funny can we please get a new one. She said, "the water tastes funny here." The server brought us the mozzarella sticks and then said do you want any plates. (Mind you there were 5 of us) and I said he's. He said, "how many" I said for everyone???? I'm not sure why you have to ask. He also later asked us if we wanted a refill... of water. I mean... can't you just refill it without asking? Then our mozzarella sticks came out and one didn't have any cheese in it. To be fair I flagged the server down and I said get I get one and showed him the empty cheese. And he said, "with cheese in it?" They brought back two which was good. The food arrived for the kids first and adults waited like 5 more minutes. So everyone was eating at different times. The burger my kiddo got he said tasted funny and the other older kid said it had a weird aftertaste. I said I didn't want to pay for something that tasted funny. The guy went back to the kitchen and came back and said they were cooking another one. I was frustrated because I didn't want another one. I said I didn't want to PAY for something inedible. He said, "well we can't do that because our boss isn't here." And I was like okay fine just give us the check, it will just be reflected in my review. He came back after like 5 minutes and said his manager said they could take it off. Okay so now the portions were pathetic. The Philly cheese steaks were on hot dog buns and it wasn't even fully filled. The kiddo said the pasta was good. It did look decent. I feel like it's hard to screw up pasta though. The chicken parm sandwich barely had any cheese or sauce on it and was on a flimsy hamburger bun. I'm pretty embarrassed I spent $75 for such a pathetic dining experience. I would not recommend anyone go here.
