Usually I really like Burgerville, but tonight's visit was an astounding miss. Came through at about 8:30PM. No line in the drivethrough at all. Ordered a burger and fries, not in a combo meal. Pulled up to the first window, the guy held the card reader out the window, and told me to pick an option (I couldn't really hear him, he talked fast, plus the noise of traffic driving by outside) and then I could make the payment. The text on the card reader screen was tiny and I could barely read it. But, it showed options on it for a tip. 0%, 15%, or 20%. I couldn't figure out which button to push because the screen showed to press 1, 2 or 3, but the buttons on the keypad started with 4 and went up to 9 and 0. It took me a minute to figure out that they'd covered the 1-3 buttons with the 0%, 15%, and 20% labels. Tipping? On drive through? At a place that, to my knowledge, pays their workers a fair wage and provides benefits (I just checked their website; while I don't know what exactly they pay their workers, they do provide benefits, and even tuition reimbursement). This...didn't feel right, but I went ahead and hit the button for 15% because I would've felt guilty hitting 0%. Drove up to the second window and my food was handed out the window within about a minute. I drove straight home, about 5 minutes, and sat down to eat. The fries? Crispy, hot, perfectly salted deliciousness. The burger? Polaroid worthy. Seriously, it looked like what they could have put it on their menu. It would have been so much better if it were hot. Don't get me wrong, it was definitely hot at some point, the burger was cooked through, but this had clearly been left out from under the heat lamp for some time. I'm so, so disappointed. Cheeseburgers are my favorite food and I was craving one Thanksgiving weekend. My brother-in-law who is from Vancouver suggested we all get Burgerville for lunch. I was told Burgerville is like their version of In-N-Out and Shack Shake. We all got the Northwest Burger and my sister and I shared the Rosemary Sea Salt Fries. The burger was yummy and the fries were bomb! Make sure you get a side of their Burgerville Sauce. I need to begin with we only went through the drive through to be fair. Placing our order was easy and the person who took our order was quite pleasant. Unfortunately our journey went quickly downhill from there. We waited way too long, but thought hopefully that means our food will be hot...it was not. This is going to be a very serious review. The food that I could eat was great. The onion rings live up to their hype and specialness. However, there was a MAJOR issue. I am literally DEATHLY allergic to mayo and raw egg. I have a very serious mast cell disorder that causes me to be very allergic and react very quickly and dramatically to allergens. I ordered the classic burger with no spread and onion rings and told the young man that it was a food allergy issue. I ALWAYS check my food. When the burger arrive, I noticed that tell-tell yellow sauce on top of the bun and immediately recognized it as the secret BV sauce. Like a dummy, I then licked my finger, ingesting a tiny portion. I assumed it was a genuine and forgivable error. However, because I'm fastidious and paranoid, I opened up the burger to check it. It was VERY obvious that a dollop of secret sauce had been wiped off. I can't believe I didn't photograph it!! This sounds dramatic, but, had I eaten that burger, I'd be in the morgue right now. I felt compelled to alert the manager immediately. A very professional young lady, I believe her name is Audrey, was so mortified, so concerned, she was visibly shaking. She could see the sauce and agreed it'd been scraped off. She listened to me and reflected the appropriate amount of shock and disbelief that one of her workers could be so careless and truly reckless. I actually told her this person needs to be fired. Some mistakes aren't forgivable, and if someone does this with intent, is it truly a mistake? I call it VERY, very poor judgment, laziness, a lack of common sense and complete disregard for their customers well being. Many would say I'm to blame and shouldn't eat out if so deathly allergic. I kinda agree and kinda disagree. My request for no sauce isn't asking too much. A conscientious and caring employee can easily make my food safe. Minimal effort, really. However, I hear the naysayers. I hear ya! I want to end on a positive note. The young man who took our order was delightful to the point I knew I'd want to write a positive review just based on our interaction. I saw him enter "No Sauce" into the computer and do not hold him responsible at all. Audrey, the manager is truly wonderful. I can't say enough positive things in regards to the way she handled this. In addition to refunding our money and a giving us a gift card, she asked if I needed any medical help or attention. I do not think this incident reflects poorly on her whatsoever and I hope she continues to enjoy a long and successful career in customer service. After 100 mgs of Benadryl and one EPIPEN, I've completely recovered and think I'll live to see another day! Noticed the car in front got their meal, then after about a minute of going through the sack, he handed it back. Then they gave him another sack that was less full. When I pulled up, they handed me the sack that looked like the one they gave him. I asked, did they just hand him our food. She didn't know what to say, and asked if I wanted to remake it. (No, I like eating food that some stranger was digging around with the fries on top). I said YES, I want it remade. They had me pull around. They brought my order out in about 2 minutes, but I could tell it was not fresh made because it wasn't hot. This is a health concern. This is the best burger joint in America, and yes, I have a fairly large sample size under my belt (pardon the pun). Burgerville isn't your typical fast food burger chain -- a lot of their menu is seasonal and many of the ingredients change with the seasons. Walla Walla Onion Rings, for example, or Yukon Gold potato Waffle Fries, aren't on the menu year-round. They also have a ridiculously good pumpkin shake that's only on the menu during the holidays. It's this commitment to providing locally-sourced, seasonally-available ingredients that sets Burgerville apart for me. The burgers are also amazing, and their sauce is better than any other "secret" sauces that I've tried -- including In-and-Out's version of thousand island. The double beef cheeseburger is perhaps the best hidden gem on the menu, not too expensive but the meat, cheese and special sauce is so tasty. In fact, I love this menu item so much that I once flew back to San Diego with 25 of them so I could keep them in my freezer (so wha, who cares). The Halibut fish sandwich is a very close second -- the fish patty comes out fresh and crispy and the tarter sauce with coleslaw is amazing. The shakes are absolutely worth a special trip to Burgerville. They're made with fresh ice cream and have a northwest richness to them that's really hard to describe. Every flavor I've gotten has been good -- berry, pumpkin, strawberry (REALLY good), chocolate, cookies and cream -- all very good. I love this burger joint. In-and-Out, Whataburger, White Castle, Shake Shack, etc., etc., etc. been there. None are better than Burgerville. read more
