Disappointed with that seafood restaurant on the Vancouver waterfront, we went looking elsewhere. I'm a fish & chip snob! I like beer battered halibut the best with some grease! I also like good chips & coleslaw. I found all 3 here at the Waterfront Taphouse. Yay! (Don't worry they aren't too greasy!). We went here with another couple and enjoyed the beautiful view, even though our table wasn't right next to the window. That is probably due to all the big windows and it's on the 2nd floor of its building. Our server was friendly, and our food came out quickly. Loved the fish & chips, like I indicated above. Why the 4 stars then? My husband, the only one in our party that didn't order fish & chips, didn't love his mahi mahi fish tacos. They looked beautiful but fell short on flavor. He felt they needed more seasoning-they were a little tasteless. He dumped the tiny little cup of salsa on top and asked for more, but he was still disappointed. The fish wasn't salted properly. They also came with "house made" tortilla chips. These were hard and cardboard-like. That's too bad because it's not difficult to cut tortillas and fry them up. I do it at home sometimes. They turn out great. So maybe go to a good Mexican restaurant if you have your heart set on quality tortilla chips. If you want fish & chips though, come here instead of their neighbor to the east (not mentioning any names-you know what it's called). The portions were generous-as they should be for $30. That's the only downside. A little pricey. We shared 2 silk pie slices for dessert. Very dense and dark chocolatey. Good to share-a whole piece is too rich-and I like rich! We had a delicious dinner here. We consider ourselves fish and chips connoisseurs so we decided to try the ones here. We were not disappointed! The fish was crispy, had a beer batter (we like batter over panko) and was very hot. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. I also enjoyed the coleslaw which was a generous serving. My husband wanted dessert so we split the Chocolate Silk Pie. We are glad we split, as it was very, very rich. It was intensely chocolaty and smooth. Delicious! We also had good service. Intentionally set earlier in the day understanding the significance of the day. (Been together over 20 years.) When we arrived my husband kindly requested a window table with view of the water. The woman taking the reservation info advised that she would try, but "so busy" etc. We were sat at a half circular booth that was facing water but set back from water. I just want to note there were 7 tables open at window seating. 3 of which were 2 tops. We did have 3, so essentially for us, 4 EMPTY tables could have accommodated our request. 2 remained empty the entirety of our meal. So I just can't understand why this request wouldn't be granted. Waitress we were assigned was amazing. On top of things, refills etc. We got the wing appetizer, cheese curds, and the wedge salad as appetizers. They were all good. The wings I would get with no sauce. The sauce on them was very ketchup reminiscent. For the entrees we both did the steak frites. Fries were amazing. The steak was sooooo tough. Medium rare didn't save them. Our child got the half pizza and demolished. For dessert we got the cookie with ice cream and the valentines special cheesecake. Both were delicious. Overall 3.5. Could use some help at front. If you don't realize you have that many free tables and could easily accommodate a paying customer the table they prefer, it just simply doesn't make sense. At the end, I did ask manager why we wouldn't be able to sit where we requested and there really was just no good reason. It was just a shrug like it was a busy day. Beautiful scenery and good service at this spot. We tried a few items from the bites section and really liked the fondue. The fried artichokes were kind of a revelation! The current deviled eggs were nothing special (it was topped with street corn which I didn't think added anything to it). We were a bit overloaded with fried and rich and creamy things by the time we got to the fish and chips so that may be why we didn't enjoy it as much; it felt a bit greasy, and the batter didn't hold up very well even just soon after it was brought out from the kitchen. Gosh, there are so many restaurants on the waterfront that it took us forever to decide. We finally settled on Waterfront Taphouse and it was a good decision. We went for dinner and were lucky to get a second floor water front table with killer views. Service was friendly and helpful, a theme that is common in the Vancouver area. I had the tap house burger and it was excellent. The burger was a little past the medium I requested but it did not matter. There was a delicious BBQ sauce, blue cheese crumbles, and fried onion strings, plus maybe some lettuce. All the flavors came together to make a very delicious burger. At $18 it was not cheap but it was worth the money. The wife had the nachos and it was huge! An enormous portion of chips and toppings. She ate maybe a third of it and was stuffed. I had a couple of IPAs but don't know the name, but they were perfectly paired with the burger. The ambiance overlooking river could not have been better. I told the wife, we belong here. read more

Huge spot on the water with great views! The menu feels pretty typical of a Taphouse restaurant, but with a few pleasant surprises. We had a large booth with a nice view - some of the booths are even elevated over the others - so everyone has a view, smart. To start, we had the crispy artichoke hearts, which were just okay. Honestly, some fibrous, leafy parts still on some of the hearts. Our main dishes were amazing. The PNW stuffed steelhead was great, but I've seen better constructed in other yelp photos. The blackened mahi mahi was phenomenal! Both were great dishes all around, but the steelhead is a heavier dish. The only bad part of the meal was the service. Decided to try this again for a family dinner. Our out of town family were lodging at the nearby Hotel Indigo and we wanted a restaurant with a beautiful view of the Columbia River. I made reservations online. My first gripe is how many emails, text messages and phone calls I received the day before and day of my reservation. It felt like borderline harassment. I have never received so many reminders and confirmation requests for a reservation before! I literally received 2 emails asking for confirmation, which I replied to as soon as I received them. Then I received a text requesting a confirmation reply, which I did immediately. Then a phone call with voicemail requesting a call back to confirm, which I did within minutes. Finally another text asking for confirmation a couple hours before our reservation time. Geez, it was all a bit much, and super annoying! We did get a window table as requested in my reservation, which was appreciated since we were entertaining out of town family. All the food came out at once, which was great! Only one person in our party wasn't happy with their food. The Caesar salad dressing was way too fishy! You could smell the strong fish odor as soon as the plate was set on the table. It should have been sent back, but regrettedly wasn't. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food. My other gripe was our waiter. He was just okay. Not too friendly and didn't refill waters at the table throughout our entire dinner. Not sure if he wasn't trying too hard because of the automatic 20% tip added to large groups or what, but it certainly didn't make us feel like he earned his tip. It was disappointing. The views and ambiance were absolutely spectacular and made for a wonderful evening. It's easy to see why this is such a popular spot--the atmosphere alone is worth the visit. We started with the bacon fig flatbread, which was delicious. The combination of flavors was great, although I never thought I'd say this--it actually had a bit too much cheese. A little more arugula would have balanced the sweetness of the figs and bacon perfectly. Unfortunately, the crab melt left much to be desired. The portion was quite small for the price, and it lacked the flavor we were expecting. It wasn't a bad dish, but it didn't stand out and didn't feel like a good value. We tried three different kinds of bruschetta: the tomato basil (top), apple fig (middle), and Brie, pear, and cranberry (bottom) all of them were absolutely divine. The hummus plate, served with fresh veggies and pita, was also excellent. For drinks, I had a cocktail (I can't remember the name), and my partner ordered a whiskey sour; both were very good. However, the atmosphere left something to be desired. The music felt out of place and quite loud, which made the space feel a little uneasy. Additionally, while the lighting itself isn't bad, at the night time it was a bit too bright and somewhat took away from the beauty of the waterfront view at night. If you're coming here for a view, go in the daylight because you won't see anything in the night time unfortunately. It's just too bright inside I think dimming the lights slightly would help create a more inviting, intimate ambiance and allow the view to shine. But it just felt over distracting between the music and lights and just window reflections at night and no view which is what I was hoping to see. With a few adjustments to the lighting this Taphouse could really make the most of its incredible location and provide an experience that matches the quality of the food. In my search for a dining spot with views of the water to take my out of town visitors, I landed on Waterfront Taphouse, and glad I did. The second floor space looks out over the Columbia with 180 degree sightlines, featuring the Interstate Bridge on one side (though not Mt Hood) and if you time it right, the setting sun on the other. There's an outdoor patio if you want to get even closer, but there's more comfortable seating with booths and tables inside (plus A/C). Service was attentive and efficient, and you have a very nice tap list of local beers along with a good selection of cocktails. Our meals got thumbs up all around, with the baked stuffed salmon, BBQ ribs and mahi fish tacos coming on in decent size portions, nicely plated and full flavored. The vibe here is modern, a bit refined but still casual, and somewhat corporate-like in the decor department, but with those great views, the background is secondary. 4/5 for food, 5/5 for views. read more

We Yelped restaurants in the area and ended up at the Waterfront Taphouse. Parking was a little difficult to find as the area was really busy (to be honest, it was a gorgeous day for outdoor dining), but we found a spot pretty quickly (there's a public lot right across the street). This place was HORRIBLE! The food was great but the service was abysmal. Three of us girls were going out to lunch. Decided on either this place or Wild Fin. Went to this place. Walked in and the woman manning the hostess desk asked us if we wanted to sit outside or in, we decided outside. I said could we be more under cover than out in the direct sun. Her response was, "i'll do the best I can, but the sun does move, you know." Snarky. Then we sat down and waited for 15 min before our server brought us water and acknowledged us at all. We finally ordered and got our food. Food delivery guy was awesome. Waited again quite a while for our check. We three put our credit cards down and when the server finally did come, my friend tried to show her which one was hers. The server snapped her head off! Then caught herself and mocked my friend. It was so bad, my friend asked her if we had offended her in some way. Like I said the food was good but I will not go back because of the service. There are a ton of restaurants downtown now, doesnt seem like being awful to your customers is a way to get buisness. We would not order the same items we got and if we did come back may go with another option but again it's limited and I'm a picky eater. Others around us enjoyed it. I will say portion sizes on some of the items were huge (nachos and salads) and other items just a small or standard size portion. Here's what we ordered.
