Also, "the other" Larry will wow you as well with his concern for your happiness and attention to detail. Whether it is an engagement ring (everyone in our extended family has purchased theirs here), wedding ring, anniversary present, holiday gift, or just a little something, you will be amazed at how well you are treated and how fair the price is, especially for the quality of gems. If you have purchased retail (don't ask me what a deal for that "one of a kind" tennis bracelet was I bought in the "islands") or on vacation, you will not make that mistake again after visiting with these wonderful people. I can't say enough good things about Burland Harold & Son... I had a ring custom made for me to celebrate my 37th birthday -- happy birthday to me! I wasn't 100% sure what I wanted but had my mind set on the Tiffany Celebration Rings. A friend of mine showed me her 3 bands of diamonds which I assumed to be from Tiffany and she said no way... Burland Harold & Son custom made these fro my grandmothers ring... I had to check them out myself. I went in with an open mind and fell in love with a gorgeous diamond band. I worked with Larry (who is amazing and has a great eye for what looks good) -- we made a few modifications, i.e. we swapped in green diamonds for some of the white diamonds. 4 weeks later they called and I went in to pick up the ring -- I love it! I get more compliments than I ever even imagined I would. I am now going to purchase two additional diamond bands and I will certainly be making the purchase from Burland & Son. read more

This review is long overdue!!! We chose Harold Burland for my engagement ring, wedding ring, and wedding jewelry and loved every minute of our experience!!! My husband has been a customer of Harold Burland for years and strongly urged me to consider this location when we were looking at engagement rings. The store is straight out of the 1940's and very minimal. A little off-putting after visiting all of the chain jewelry stores and even some of the other jewelers on Jeweler's Row. However, once you step in and begin to look at the pieces in the cases you realize what a special place you have just entered!!! They offer really unique pieces while also offering traditional pieces and their prices are a fraction of the price of everyone else!!! All of the staff is EXTREMELY personable and friendly and really listen to what you want and help keep you in line with your budgets by offering suggestions to reduce the cost of a piece. I don't recall any of the other jewelers we visited doing that. Also, I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Burland on one of our visits. He makes you feel like you are his very own grandchild!!! He took a particular interest in my back tattoo and we had a very entertaining conversation about it. We also discussed with Mr. Burland about creating a custom nose ring for me. This also was a fun experience/conversation as Mr. Burland has never done this, but was more than willing!!! We will be visiting Burland and Son very soon to get this piece rolling!!! WOW! Add me to the growing list of 5-star reviews for Harold Burland & Son Jewelers. I must say it's the first time in a very, very long time I was pleased with an entire process involving any business. If the other reviews are any indication, they must just operate old-school, with a 'customer first' mantra. I found this shop on Yelp. I was looking for a place to bring a necklace with a broken chain for repair. Delicate chain vs. dog; dog won. I called first to ensure they repaired jewelry that wasn't purchased from them and the kindly gent (Larry) informed me that they absolutely did. I brought my necklace in later that afternoon and the senior Mr. Burland had a good look at it, admiring the unique pendant and the style of the chain. He was very kind to me and reminded me of my grandfather. He asked me to come back in two days' time and it would be ready. I just returned with my necklace, which I happily hung around my neck at the counter. They had graciously cleaned and polished it for me and I'm so happy to be wearing it again. This whole experience was flawless. I can't believe my good fortune, finding this place. I will certainly go to them in the future for my jewelry needs...and you can bet my boyfriend will be hearing about this place, too. ;) read more

I was extremely disappointed today when I came here for a jewelry repair after reading the other great Yelp reviews on this store. I came in here to get a bangle that had a latch broken off fixed after being quoted a high price at another store. The man at the front counter took the bracelet to the back of the store to the cranky, corpse-like man to see if it could be fixed. My bf and I were taking a gander at all of their gaudy, costume type jewelry while they looked it over. All of a sudden, we hear the ancient man say, "This is a piece of crap!" loudly for us to hear. Our jaws dropped in disbelief! This "piece of crap" is a 1 karat diamond and silver bangle that cost about $1,000. Needless to say, I will NEVER be back to that outdated "jewelry" store... read more

This is the only place I will ever go again to buy a piece of jewelery! My husband and I eloped before buying an engagement ring so I had the good fortune of being part of the entire proccess. Larry took his time explaining diamonds and listening to exactly what I wanted. My husband and Larry spoke ahead of time and determined a price range my husband was comfortable with. Once the parameters were set, my husband and I sat down with Larry and looked at loose stones. He showed us a range of diamonds in the exact cut & size I had hoped for and at different price points within my husband's price range. He took his time with us and allowed us to reach our own decision, never pushing us towards the most expensive stone. After we settled on the stone, Larry helped me custom design the setting. Two extremely important things to note. 1) My ring is EXACTLY what I wanted and is incredibly gorgeous!!! 2) Cost was completely transparent! Larry showed my husband the invoices for each of the diamonds listing his cost and we paid 10% over that. There was no negotiating, haggling, feelings of being taken. We walked away confident that we got an amazing deal from a honest trustworthy jeweler! (btw- we had our ring independantly appraised and it came back several thousand more than we paid). I initially visited Harold Burland & Son because of the 5 star reviews on Yelp. I had a gold ring with a very intricate band that needed to be resized upwards. I had been to two other jewelers who, because of the complexity and detail, would not undertake resizing the ring. Burland & Son undertook the resizing and did a fabulous job. I am extremely pleased with the workmanship and the price. They went above and beyond anything I expected to make sure the ring was perfect! I even offered them additional money to pay for the extra effort and they would not take it. When I mentioned that I was traveling to Europe, they put a rush on the job so that I could take the ring with me. It was the best experience I have ever had with a jeweler - and I have dealt with many jewelers. Burland & Son is a family owned and family run business. I have now brought other jewelry there for refurbishing and have found them to be extremely honest and ethical. They are not out for the quick sale, but genuinely want a satisfied customer. Their pricing is excellent. I will be dealing with them exclusively in the future for both repairs and purchases of new jewelry. They not only have jewelry on display for purchase but do excellent custom pieces at very reasonable prices. They work very hard to make their customers happy. One of the reviews that initially promped me to patronize Burland & Son said, "you will never go anywhere else". I second that with enthusiasm. Before going to Harold Burland and Son, I began shopping for an engagement ring for my fiance at the time who is now my wife at the retail chain jewelers. Big mistake. Do yourself a favor, skip all the B.S sale pitches and go directly to Harold Burland and Son. I bought my wife's engagement ring from them and let me tell you it still looks amazing. I gave them a picture of the engagement ring and they made a couple of suggestions that in the end saved me some money. These guys love what they do, you can see it in their work. I do not disagree with any of the below reviews. One of the best things about this jeweler is you walk out with EXACTLY what you want at the price you want. Some people have higher budgets, some have lower and they will accommodate anything. My future husband purchased my engagement ring there which I had no part of, but we went back almost immediately to see if I needed it re-sized. From that moment on, I've felt like family. They are always happy to see us, excited to show us new things and even had the heart to tell us that we are good together :) That honestly made my day, just to think that out of all the couples that they've seen they think we are good together. But, I'm rambling. When we went back again to start the wedding band process, I unfortunately forgot my ring at home but still manged to pick out a stunner. My future husband wanted to design his own and started giving descriptions of his ideal and we realized we forgot the picture. So we went back a few days later picture in hand and engagement ring on. His went off without a hitch with the guys eagerly starting to work on building his dream ring. Mine, however, turned to the bad. I picked out a ring that honestly ate my engagement ring. I was so sad! Who knew you could pick out too big of diamonds?!?! Rather than trying to sell us something that clearly didn't look right, they went above and beyond to create me a masterpiece that still looked the same, barely went down in carats yet allowed my first ring to still be center of attention. That is so NOT something that would happen at Tiffany's. This place will not only make your finger shine, but it will make your wallet happy. Sure you are spending thousands but you are walking out with something that could fetch almost double. These guys really care about you/their customer otherwise they still wouldn't be around. Don't let a small show room fool you - let it tell you that you are about to build not only a great ring/necklace/earrings etc, but a great relationship with people who care. Like many of the other reviewers, I have gone to Larry Burland for my wife's engagement ring, our wedding bands, and additional jewelry over the past five years. It is a pleasure shopping and I am happy to do business with him. He tells it to you straight, and has a terrific selection. All in all, I'd highly recommend. One minor quibble (hence the four star rating) is that he does not accept credit cards. I realize that this is true for many jewelers, but even for smaller purchases, it would be nice to have that as an option. read more

I could not be more pleased with the service and the ring that I purchased from Burland Harold & Son. I was referred to them by my brother, who had also purchased his engagement ring from them. I brought in a 95 year old diamond that belonged to my great grandmother. I asked them if I should buy a new diamond for my fiance's engagement ring, and they said, "Absolutely not!" This made me feel comfortable with them right off the bat because I knew they were not trying to sell me anything. They patiently walked me through the options for the setting and we found the PERFECT setting! My fiance and I absolutely LOVE the ring and could not be more thankful or appreciative. My husband and I were looking for a jeweler that would allow me to design my ring ( I brought in a few pictures) and wow they did that and then some. Came in to have a bracelet repaired. Excellent customer service-extremely friendly plus you can't even tell where the chain was fused back together! Also, cleaned it for free and looks brand new. The price of repair was very reasonable compared to if I were to have taken it to a retail store to have it fixed. I will definitely return to Burland Harold & Son for any jewelery repair! read more
