I've been coming here for years and it was always good food, but since the new owner Rob Kash took it over it has gotten even better. The food is very good, and I've never been disappointed. Just went last night and had Spaghetti with Clam Sauce. I enjoyed it very much. The BLT is also a winner and you can't go wrong with the burger or any of the steaks. Don't forget to try the Mussels. I came here for Sunday brunch and it was beautiful outside seating. Our waiter was friendly and did a good job checking up on us. The food was good, we got two made to order omelettes and a fruit cup. My biggest issue was the small portions and high prices. But, their coffee was some of the best I have ever had. Overall a good freehold staple because of the amazing outdoor seating in the middle of town, but there are some other more reasonably priced options. read more

First time eating here. My wife and I love seafood, specifically lobster for her. I googled "Lobster Freehold,NJ" and this was a top choice. Made a 530 dinner reservation for 2 on a Sunday. Upon arriving, it didn't seem necessary as the restaurant was about half full but just wanted to be sure since Downtown Freehold can be busy. The restaurant has a decent size bar, a lower section with tables and intimate booths above surrounding it. We were immediately seated at a booth. Our server Haley was friendly, pleasant and knowledgeable. We started with a very tasty grilled Caesar salad (they grill the romaine lettuce) large enough for 2 people to share. For dinner I had the crab-stuffed flounder over a lobster risotto with sautéed asparagus. I was amazed! Everything on the plate was very fresh and seasoned to perfection. The portion was an exceptional size (photo). My wife ordered the surf & turf. Normally a filet & tail (6oz each), but she opted to substitute pan seared scallops for the filet. The scallops were a great size. Like small pillows on the plate (photo). The lobster tail was tender, delicious and one of the best my wife has tasted. This was served with mashed potatoes and very fresh broccoli. 2 seafood entrees, an appetizer and glass of wine. Bill was a little over $100 as I recall. Large portions, good service. It's been over two years since eating here. Now post Covid, we had a fantastic dinner here with 4 couples celebrating the March birthdays. To our surprise, the inside had a beautiful makeover . It was refreshed with new and lighter booths, tables and chairs. We all loved it. This venue is in the American Hotel and there is a large parking lot in rear but it is shared with several other restaurants. Since this was a Saturday night, it was completely packed and I could not find parking there. So luckily I was able to get parking across the street. Sometimes they do have valet parking but unfortunately not on this night. In any case we all had a fantastic meal. Patrick was our server and he did an excellent job with getting all of our drinks and entrées correct and even if he didn't he fixed it easily. I had a stuffed pork chop which was awesome. I shared a wedge salad with my husband so I was quite full and was able to take home half my meal. My friends had the filet mignon, lamb chops, stacked eggplant appetizer, and cowboy steak. There wasn't one bad meal in the lot. The Au gratin potatoes were magnificent also which came with a couple of the entrées. So this was a great place to visit and they do take a reservation. There is also outside seating. On this particular night, the weather was gorgeous and there were a lot of people eating outside. Highly recommend! read more

My boyfriend and I went there last night for dinner. I have been there at least a dozen times for dinner and everything has always been excellent. However last night was a different story. To start we had the White Cheddar Cheese Curds which we great, and he had the French Onion soup which he said was excellent. For our entrees: I had the Short Rib Pot Roast which was very good, and the portion was big (I brought home half of it ) He decided to have the Lobster Pot Pie. HUGE disappointment. First he said that it tasted very fishy, and to top it off a piece of the claw was in it. Not very appetizing. He isn't one to complain, but did mention it to our server who apologized but it wasn't her fault, the kitchen should have never let it leave like that. So I would suggest to stay away from the Lobster Pot Pie, there are other items on the menu that you can choose from. Parking is a pain in the neck since they have the metered parking now. It took me forever to get on the app and pay for the parking. It took about 30 minutes, but the nice thing is that the restaurant reimbursed me for parking ($4.00) for the 2 hours I paid for. read more

Honestly, not worth the money. Service is friendly and accommodating but the food is a little underpar. We ordered three plates of the seafood pasta which came with a variety of seafood--half a lobster, clams, mussels, and shrimp in a red sauce with linguine. It was a little underseasoned so a bit bland. I also ordered a grilled shrimp and pasta dish, which was super salty. My favorite part were probably the appetizers--the mussels in the house sauce was unique, it almost tasted like a thousand island-esque sauce. The deep fried artichoke was good if you ate only one, otherwise the saltiness was overwhelming. Presentation needs a little work on everything, as everything came out a bit sloppily. It is out local spot and we always go for drinks, happy hour, dinner you name it! Last night we went with our family as a party of seven for a pre holiday dinner and we had another amazing experience! We started with drinks at the bar and then got to dinner! Tonight was the first time dining here. I don't know anyone who ate here, and there weren't many reviews on this restaurant so I was curious how it was. We started the two soups one was called a lobster shrimp bisque, and I use the word called because I can't understand how that was a lobster shrimp bisque soup when there was no lobster or shrimp in it, and it wasn't even creamy! It was definitely the worst soup I ever had in my entire life! The second was a special which was a vegetable shrimp soup and that was good, and unfortunately the best thing we ate tonight. We both ordered the scallops with risotto, and the red snapper which came with saffron risotto. The scallops were just ok, but the risotto was over cooked. The red snapper didn't taste fresh at all. The saffron rice it came with some parts were so over cooked it was hard and dry. The zucchini it came with was disgusting. Both of our entrees were served luke warm and parts of our dish were cold. For dessert we ordered the German chocolate cake which wasn't house made, and from the taste of it probably bought at some cheap bakery. The cake part was not good at all and was dry. The brownie was made there, but it didn't taste much like a brownie. They could of bought better brownies at quick check. I definitely would never eat here again, and can't understand how this restaurant is surviving with the poor quality of food it's serving. I recommend to the owner to firing everyone in the kitchen and getting a whole new chef. Definitely skip this place. read more

I was taking an account here for dinner, it was their choice, and I'm so glad they picked this place. It was my first time here, and it was a Wednesday night. It happened to be their seafood, and 1/2 price wine bottle night. Everything that came out was delicious, the only thing I wasn't so thrilled about was their brownie, it was more "cakey" than "fudgey", but I will not fault them since that is my personal preference. Our server was an attentive woman, and very nice, I wish I remembered her name. The food at the American Hotel is amazing! First, they bring out warm dinner rolls with garlic butter. It is delicious! I got the hanger steak for my meal and it was very tasty and so soft. It came with mashed sweet potatoes, mushrooms and onions, and vegetables. It was such a generous portion. The outdoor dining is also very nice and is set up well. Stopped by with my wife and daughter last night. Haven't been back here in several years, but decided to give it another shot after attending a recent event last month. We sat outside because it was a nice night. I ordered a Longtrail Limbo IPA, it didn't look or taste like it should. We started off with the fried oysters, that was a mistake. Really bad, the worst fried food I've ever had. Once I finished what was supposed to be my beer, I switched to a Sierra Nevada, my wife got one too. When those came out, they didn't look or taste like they should. Dirty tap lines? Then our food came out. My wife had the bacon wrapped scallop app. She said the scallops were edible, but the grits were horrible. My daughter's chicken tenders were over cooked. What was supposed to be a medium rare NY strip was well done and like the mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts lacked flavor. I told the waitress about my steak and she agreed it was over cooked. She offered to replace it, but I told her no, I wasn't going to wait around for another. I've had better meals in the officer's dining room at the county jail when I worked there. This was by far the worst meal I've ever had. Waitress was alright. Chefs should work at McDonald's. A vegan could grill a better steak. If it was possible to give negative stars I would. It's a shame the food is so bad. Nice place and location is all it has going. read more

A little disappointed on Friday night (for the last time)- @ 7pm there was a woman face down at the bar, completely passed out....and it didn't seem to phase the 3 bartenders. I'm all about a good time, but really! When we moved to our table for dinner, the oysters were a good appetizer but the steaks ordered "medium" came out overcooked. I ordered mine with mushrooms and got brussel sprouts..didn't bother sending them back. Not to mention that @ $300+ for 4ppl, they shouldn't "auction" the food when it is brought to the table. What saved the evening was good company and 5 Jack Daniel's on the rocks. This was our 5th time dining there and I really try to like it, but we will most likely not go back. Came here for dinner with some friends from out of town. We were happy that they were able to seat us outside because it was a nice night but then the band started playing in the building. From that point forward we could not even hear each other at that table outside. I kindly asked the manager if they could bring down the volume a little bit, after all, this is a restaurant. I was told they would do something. Nothing was done and the rest of the dinner was horrible. Meal was fine but when you are paying 200+ for a dinner you expect to be able to have a conversation with the people you are with. I'm not uptight but this was over the top. They need a lesson on COVID protocols. All servers, managers should be wearing face masks (and properly) also servers should be wearing gloves and carrying plates correctly. We ordered tasty, Mussels with chorizo and fennel in a pink sauce served with garlic toast for "dipping" Portion was enough to share. Entrees are pricy, but portions are suitable. The fillet mignon was basic, served with mixed vegetables. The braised short ribs were fall off the bone, tender. I had the Chicken Stacked, tender chicken cutlets layered with prosciutto and spinach topped with mozzarella and roast peppers. It was served over yellow rice. The bread basket was fresh and warm served with herb butter. The waiter was very attentive. The cocktails were well made. If you want to be extravagant, order the $110. steak for two. Have eaten here several times. Love the place but the food can be hit-or-miss. Ordered the skate wing one time and it was great. Ordered it another time and it was prepared a different way and was just OK. My daughter once ordered their burger and had to send it back twice because it wasn't cooked as ordered. After all the waiting back and forth, she wasn't very hungry anymore and she finally gave up and just accepted the third which, also, wasn't cooked as ordered. And, she is not fussy, she would have kept the first burger had it at least been reasonably close to being cooked to order. I had the braised short ribs one time and it was very good but, if you like sauce, which I do (lots), be sure to ask for extra, as the little bit they drizzle on top just doesn't cut it. Servers are also hit or miss. Although acceptable, some are young, unpolished and not that knowledgeable about the individual menu items, mostly the specials, while other servers are very good. I would expect all to be very good for the prices they charge. I do recommend this place as they usually do get it right but, for most, due to the high prices, should be reserved for special occasions. read more

I've been to this place a few times now and it has taken me some time to write the review because I have real mixed feelings about it. First of, the decor is nice and cozy. Eating outside in the summer is great specially with the live music. Secondly, the service is typically awesome. Now, for the food.... it's where it gets me. One day it can be great and another it will drive me crazy. Its always well cooked, well presented but we can also be extremely salty. To the point that I can eat it. The last time I complained and the server blamed on it being seafood and it has to be salty. It does not! I eat at seafood places all the time and here it can be unbearable. I heard that the chef used to work at the White House, so he is supposed to be good but I can't understand the excessive salt. I used to come here because of the lobster bisque and the last time I forced myself to eat half. I will still come back, but will avoid any seafood dish. We happened to come on Saint Patricks day weekend. Two men came out with bagpipes and the full attire. It was very entertaining. The server was attentive. We ordered burgers, they cooked it to perfection on a crunchy on the outside chewy on the inside bun, and served it with delicious steak fries. My boyfriend had the seafood pot pie which he also enjoyed. It was a good dining experience. You know it's a good restaurant when people come to it that aren't actually staying in the hotel. read more
