My favorite restaurant in Charleston. I get the bbq but can't wait to try the hot pot. The price is fantastic considering I focus on proteins and don't fill up on rice. The bulgogi is fantastic, the sauce selection is huge, and the soft drinks are also unlimited. I try to go at least once a month. The ventilation is very good- you still smell like bbq when you leave but not as bad as other kbbq I've had. The staff is always very friendly. read more

I went during their lunch special from 11 am - 4 pm and they offered $20 for Korean bbq and hotpot which is a great price! I specifically came at 3:10 pm and the server notified me ahead of time that if I wanted that price I would only have until 4 pm which was about 50 minutes to eat. Totally do-able especially since I was a party of 1. Just a heads up their options for lunch is different from dinner hence the difference in price points of the two. Everything was buffet style so you would go to the bar to grab your meats, drinks, and sauces. If you wanted rice, kimchi, or other sides please let your server know. Service was great and attentive. My server often came by and offered to cut the pork belly which by the way were my favorite here. The restaurant gave me a sense of modern/hipster vibes which can be appealing for young crowds and it seems pretty clean overall. I used to go out of my way to eat at this location, but unfortunately it has gone downhill significantly. The food quality seems to get worse with every visit. The restaurant itself appears less clean than it used to be, and the air conditioning never seems to work properly. Instead, they bring in large industrial fans that make the dining room loud and uncomfortable. What finally pushed me over the edge was my most recent visit. After I had already paid, a staff member went through my soup, picked out a few noodles and rice cakes, and told me it was considered "waste" and that I would be charged an additional fee. I was charged an extra $13 for ramen and approximately five rice cakes. I've eaten here at least 25 times over the years and was shocked by how this situation was handled. Rather than working with a loyal customer over such a small amount of food, they chose to nickel-and-dime me after the meal was already finished. All you can eat hotpot, Korean BBQ or both (for an extra $6 a person). Lunch is cheaper than dinner, of course, and kids under 11 are cheaper. If you bring more than six, I think, and it's your birthday, with ID, you eat free. Eat for up to 2 hrs. Lots of people in line, including some big kids from the local school, I think, out of their sports practice or game. Pirates (Jack Sparrow) little statue upfront, too, weirdly. Friendly staff but they do keep you moving close to the 2hr mark, and sometimes not always available to get certain items unless you flag them down. I had just the hotpot. Broth was solid. The spicy, according to my fellow diners, wasn't spicy enough. Lots of fresh items and fruits, cake, and dessert (ice cream), plus some appetizers (fried cream cheese wontons, etc.) in the buffet. Plates and bowls were still a bit wet or needed cleaning (some cross-contamination across the buffet, so be careful of that). I visited Burnin 99 on Sunday, and it was by far the best Korean BBQ and hot pot restaurant I've ever been to. Other places had everything together and it didn't matter what you got. They have a small drink section (non-alcoholic) that you can grab from so I got an apple flavored drink. There was a little wait initially, so you can make reservations. We ordered a couple bowls of rice to go with our meals. They had a few desserts and the cake was really good. They put parchment paper on the burner so that prevented food getting stuck on the grill. I wish they had a few more sauce options. Took my family to Burnin 99 tonight after having a great experience at another AYCE Korean BBQ in another state. This place was great!! My 11 year old put down more plates than my wife!! It was really awesome to eat, grab a new plate, get what you want from the buffet, and come back to your table. It is unique, it is amazing, and it is a buffet, so you will leave happy, entertained and full. I liked this for 2 reasons - you don't have to wait to put in your order so it's very fast, and you can try a lot of new things without having to order a whole plate of it. In short, the recent visit became my worst restaurant experience in my life so far. The hosts don't bother to let us know when they decided to separate our large party and sat us far apart from each other. Understood the table max sittings but least the courtesy to inform customers when not able to sit them close to each other. The decision should be the customer's whether it's okay to be sitting far apart. We were there for a special occasion, social and bonding but ended up with an experience that ruined our day. As for food, definitely not a place for BBQ as main. The grill is simply not hot enough. They also have different noodle to for your hot pot but sadly they don't have vermicelli noodle that I like. You can make your own sauce for your bbq but some of the meat already marinated in korean sauce. They also served kimchi, cucumber pickle, seaweed, and some desserts. It was a bit sour and when I used to eat this bbq in Hawaii it would only taste like that if it was old or left out. I'm hoping that wasn't the case. Burnin' 99 is awesome! The food and service here is top notch. They just opened a few days ago and they serve AYCE Korean BBQ and Hotpot. They are located across Northwoods Mall and are in the same shopping center as Best Buy, Aldi, and Shoe Carnival. I came here on a Sunday night with my family and they were pretty packed. The restaurant isn't that big so I would recommend making a reservation online at Minitable on the weekends. The food and drinks you grab yourself as it's entirely self-serve. The drinks cost $2.99 per person and include unlimited cans/bottles of Coke, Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper, Diet Coke, Asian Grass Jelly, Asian Sweet Tea, and Asian Green Tea. All of us got the Hotpot and Korean BBQ option ($29.99/per person for either or $35.99 for both). Each person gets their own individual small hotpot. The selections for soup base include Spicy, Pork Bone, Original, Mushroom, Tomato, or Tom Yum. For the Hotpot, they have a good seafood selection that includes Whole Shrimp, Mussels, Clams, Stone Crab Claws, Blue Crab, Crayfish, Octopus, Fish Fillet, and Scallops. They have thinly sliced pieces of Beef and Pork in a fridge next to the seafood. Other items include Duck Feet, Beef Tripe, Luncheon Meat, Mini-Sausages, Imitation Crab, Big Sausage, various Fish Balls, Tofu, Potato, Ramen Noodles, Udon Noodles, Seaweed, and Pot Stickers, and Egg. The vegetables they have are Onion, Zucchini, Pumpkin, Corn, Tong-Ho, Enoki Mushroom, Cabbage, Lotus, Taro, and Romaine Lettuce. There is a central BBQ in the middle that everyone shares. In my opinion, this business is very shady. They advertised all you can eat Lobster on Tuesday's. They also had prominent signage displayed showing this. (See the photos).However, upon ordering, the server said that it was one per table and that the lobster was very small. When I questioned the server as to why this advertised this way, he said it was wrong and if I didn't want it, I could leave. He would not give me the manager's name. He was extremely rude and unprofessional, and I refused to give them any of my money!! Wanted to try something new and found a neat spot in North Charleston. I had mixed feelings when I left. The restaurant can be a little intimidating if you've never been there before. I was greeted right away by the hostess and seated. The restaurant takes reservations but one wasn't needed. They can accommodate larger parties with their seating set up. The waitress came over and explained everything but I was still a little confused so I'll outline everything. When you're seated you'll see a large grill in the center and then smaller holes that go deeper into the table. You can do just BBQ (large center grill), pots (smaller openings for soup) or both. Each has its own price and the price is per person. The on/off switch for the center grill is on the end of the table. There's a temperature gage on it as well. The on/off switch for the pots is right in front of where you're sitting. They have water brought to you but canned drinks as well. My water cup was dirty and the water had a film floating on the top of it. It's all you can eat and drink but you have a time limit of 2 hours and the restaurant may charge you for taking too much food and not eating it. There's a little garbage can on the table for shells and bones. Once you're ready to eat go up to the line. There are plates and bowls available there. There is so much food to pick from. Vegetables and meats, sauces and spices. Don't get too much at first in case you get full. My cons of the restaurant were mostly about cleanliness. The tables were all dirty and sticky. They were not being cleaned as well as they could. All the food has tongs but the handles just lay in the food and can be moved between fish, poultry, and vegetables. The floors were also dirty and there was grease built up on everything. Overall, the food was okay and fun to cook up, but not worth the price or risk of getting sick. read more

I like how everyone gets their own hot pot, I've seen videos where everyone has to share one and that sounds like it can get messy. $38.99 for all you can eat BBQ and hot pot, I definitely recommend doing both so you can sear things and add them to the broth for more flavor. I've actually been twice now and the first time I had the original broth, which was great, but the second time I got the Tom Yum broth, which was a lot more flavorful and just on the edge of being too spicy, so I loved it. Once you order your broth, you hit the buffet to pick out proteins, seafood, vegetables, and sauces. I would definitely start small because if you waste a bunch of food they do charge you. I personally go hard on the dumplings because I love them! The one thing I wish they did was explain the process a bit more for first timers, but luckily we were with a friend who had been before. Out of the broths I chose the mushroom one and heard others go with spice and original. After they bring the broth and ignited the bbq you can cook to your hearts desire!! To make the most of our time after we placed our broth order we went towards the buffet line to select our pickings of food to cook. The protein is abundant: bulgogi beef, crab legs, lobster balls, dumplings, and mussels were the highlights for me. The corner part has a fridge full of fun drinks and water jugs - they do charge for each drink so be mindful of that. The sauce station has loads of seasonings and liquids to play and unleash your creative side with. Along the wall there's noodles, ramen, veggies, and a smattering of desserts if you have the room!
