Hot pot 999 is LEGIT. We came for Christmas eve dinner and it was one of the best decisions ever. The staff was really warm and welcoming and we were promptly seated and taken care of. There is the option to do hot pot, BBQ, or both. Both are all you can eat and all tables are equipped with both options. We decided to go with the hot pot exclusively and went for individual pots . After ordering from the ample menu, we headed to the sauce bar where. there are delicious seafood items as well as a variety of options to make your own hot pot sauce. I am giving this place a 2/5 stars based solely on the atmosphere; I will add, that some of the atmosphere was out of the staff's control. There was a guest with her 2 children and the daughter was running around touching the buffet area and grabbing the karaoke mic and loudly singing/talking into it. At one point the little girl was talking to the other guests in the restaurant. Was this the staff's fault? No. However, it would have been nice if the staff had at least shut the mic off (no one was doing karaoke) and asked her to stop touching the buffet area. The staff walked by and talked to the kids and mom a few times, but never about the disturbance - they seemed to know each other. Additionally, this was our first time going to a restaurant like this and I wanted some guidance. Our waitress didn't seem inclined to walk us through the process or explain how it worked besides a few mumbled words with a loud child running around in the background. We just sort of had to guess and figure it out outselves. There were 3-4 tables of guests in the whole restaurant and they sat us all together in a close bunch. It was tight and uncomfortable. The food was good, but I think it would have bene better if our waitress had explained a bit more how it worked. Live and learn I guess. The meats were super tasty but mostly fat and it cooks so fast that the fat won't render, so it's really challenging to chew. I would really love to visit another place like this now that I understand better how it all works. I wish the experience as a whole was more enjoyable, but maybe it was just a fluke. First of all: don't trust the negative reviews, they seem to be there to try and sabotage this new business. I'm glad I ignored them and took a chance to see things for myself. And what a great find and experience it was! Magnificent ingredients, fresh side dishes, condiments, and sauces. I was sold once the shrimp for the soup came out, large, plump, fresh and top-notch quality. The overall experience was very satisfying, the kids had fun and we loved the flavors. Truly an all-you-can-eat affair where all you have to do is ask, and more fresh meats and veggies come right out to your table. The service was excellent, they took a bit of time to bring the orders out, but nothing to worry about or hurt the experice, we asked for something like 20 different ingredients, so it makes sense that to keep things fresh and clean, it would take a little time to prep the cart and bring it to the table. I couldn't walk afterward because I really stuffed myself! My friend literally had to drag me back to the car. To be honest, I should have stopped after halfway through the second round, but finished everything. Then, we finished everything in the third round too. We didn't eat anything throughout the day, ran 4 miles, and did calisthenics for 30minutes, just for this place, and it didn't disappoint. Everyone has their own preferences, so I won't recommend anything to order. One thing I would like to highlight is the individual ladles. They perfectly fit on top of the edge of the pot. He didn't fill our glasses unless we ask and didn't come by our table every now and then to see how we're doing. We had to wave for his attention quite a bit to request for more items. The squid was either under or over cooked by me . Hard to tell when done . And after a while of trying different sauces the heat holes on the burner clog up and even with cooking spray things tend to stick. I put chicken slices and had to scrap them off in little pieces. Maybe the Hot pot ,coking seafood and noodles in soup would have been better. But the BBQ was terrible and i will not be back. Hot Pot is an interesting place. You have a choice of Korean bbq, Hot Pot, or both. The tables have a grilling plate on the middle. Each seat has their own hot plate for the Hot Pot. For the Hot Pot, you are brought your own individual pot and you can choose your broth from a choice of 6. You choose as many items as you want, and all are brought out for you to cook in your own pot. For the bbq, the raw ingredients are brought out for you to cook on the grill plate. For both cooking methods, you can order as much as you want and as many times as you'd like, however if you order far too much food, then you will be charged for wastage. Overall, the premise is great. Having been to many Korean bbq's in different cities, this place doesn't really compare. The meat was okay- not great. The broth was flavorless. I guess a spicy broth may have been a better choice, however a chicken broth should not be as bland as it was. The service seemed to be the major issue. We were not given any assistance as to what we should be doing. Our grill plate was never put on, so our cooking was delayed. No one told us there was a buffet area where we could get our condiments. We were seated where this was not visible to us. Once we figured this out, our food was suddenly a lot better. The garlic, scallions and sauces improved our food exponentially! A fun part was the karaoke. Anyone could take the mic and sing. It was great. And no you don't have to be a good singer- that's the best part! So the entertainment was pretty awesome. I'd give this a 3.5 stars. i have been twice now and both times only had the Chinese Hot Pot AYCE. In the future we will try out the Korean BBQ. Having only been open for less than two weeks they are still adjusting some but we have enjoyed both visits. Overall great location with plenty of parking and the restaurant is spacious, lots of room with tables on the sides. You can do individual pots or a large pot (with one - three sections of broth. Large sauce bar with labels on the glass above. If you havent had hot pot before then you should know that you take a small bowl for your suace and combine some of the options at the sauce bar into what you would like. It takes some trial and error. Might also be good to look up some sauce combos for hot pot. They had peanut butter but would love to see some sesame paste on the bar as well Meats and vegetables: large selection with popular options of fatty beef and lamb. I have had the beef stomach and tripe but found the cuts to be too thick, hoping this gets fixed as it is great when thinly sliced. Broth options. The Sichuan spicy broth is fairly mild. The Chinese herb is a good option for those that want to stay away from any spice. I havent tried the other broths. Everything else has been great. Both times we ate til we had to roll out Service was wonderful and friendly. If you need something dont be afraid to get a server's attention. When they start to get busy, as with many places they only have so many people so service can slow down some. AYCE Hot Pot is finally available in Charleston. Do not believe the one-star reviews for Hot Pot 999, they are definitely either fake, from competition, or are all from one single customer who had a bad experience. I'm from Southern California and have had all types of great hot pot. I didn't have high hopes going to eat hot pot in North Charleston but WOW! This place is incredible. The decor is beautiful and lavish, and there are tons of tables to eat at. We came in with a large group early on a Friday night and were able to be seated and served immediately. Our waitress, Sophia, was super attentive, quick, and friendly. She checked on us constantly and made sure we had everything we need! We all got the AYCE hot pot for $27.99 per person. This deal is great, a lot cheaper than other places I have been too. They also have a HUGE amount of choices to choose from! Whether you want different types of meat, seafood, veggies, or even fishballs, you have tons of variety. They also don't limit the amount of meat you can order per round like other AYCE places do. Eat however much you like (as long as you can finish it)! The star of the show is truly the fatty beef. It's cut paper thin and so it cooks quickly. The meat is fatty, and full of delicious beef flavor. I liked the fatty pork and chicken gizzard as well, but we couldn't get enough plates of the fatty beef. The ramen goes great in their broth, the shrimp is HUGE, the cuttlefish balls are bouncy and juicy, I could go on and on about how great this place is. There are so many options, there is something for EVERYONE to love. I really love their sauce bar. I truly believe having a great sauce determines whether your hot pot is good or not. They have tons of condiments and toppings, and they also include a guide in the menu if you are a newbie at hot pot. My go to sauce is garlic, green onion, sesame paste, peanut butter, spicy soy sauce, a little bit of vinegar, sesame oil, hot chili oil, and a dash of sugar. SO good and it goes well with meat, seafood, veggies, and noodles. The salad bar is small, but you don't really need tons of options when they already provide a vast menu of hot pot ingredients. Omg I LOVE this place. You get to sit at your table with your own personal hot pot heater, and/or with the BBQ grill right in the center of the table. And you can order as much meat/veggies as you want, until you're bursting at the seams. Honestly, it's so much fun to be able to choose whatever variety you want and to just feast like a king. Also, we didn't get half the things we ordered (and we were charged with it originally) and majority of my questions couldn't be answered. I'm all for supporting small local businesses especially of all ethnicities (former Floridian here!) Their soup was murky and lukewarm like bong water. When confronted with their sour food, their management denied any wrongdoing while at the same time quickly took their spoiled food away to hide the evidence.
