I started going there four months ago. At first I was paying one price for the Gigantic Chicken Burrito, beans and rice meal. Then a couple months later they raised the price, and now once again they raised the price, now it's up to $17.00!! I am NOT a rich person. I will not be back again. A lot of positive reviews so I was eager to try, there's panadería across the street so I thought it would be good. Super disappointing, would not come back. I went on taco Tuesday for the carnitas tacos combo. It was my first try. River's has delicious carnitas, but they were closed. Here carnitas are uneatable !! Dry and waste of money. I suppose I should preface this with, I just moved here from San Diego, and I'm a native Californian. (Read that as: I know my Mexican food.) This place probably isn't bad, for Rockford. (Sorry, Rockford.) The burrito (bean and cheese, mind you) was mmmm.... Just no. The tortilla was clearly from a distributor, and not a good one. It was thick like a pita. And it wasn't flame warmed first. The beans were overpowering, as in probably from a can. The cheese was decent, but not Mexican cheese... (and I don't mean Mexican shredded cheese from the store, I mean like Cotija). The rolled tacos were also just from a distributor and fried. So long as you know what you're getting yourself into, this place is fine. If you're from California.... Maybe try somewhere else. Everything I said earlier definitely still applies. Their food is still great and at a great value. This won't be a concern much longer hopefully, but I would love to see (during covid) a better option for pickup orders other than waiting in the drive thru line for an order you already called ahead. For example, I called ahead today, came in 10-15 minutes like they said, then waited in line another 15-20 minutes (it was a long line) waiting for everyone else who didn't order ahead. I would love to either be able to come in quick to pick it up, have a different line I can wait in, or have people run it out to me in the parking lot. I have been a loyal customer for a few years I live a block away from el burrito loco and drive all the way to Charles st to have a burrito. I order the same burrito every time and I get charged different every time. If you order a baby they charge you for the giant. I have no problem paying for giant if I get giant. Today was my first time here. Always drove past this place, but finally decided to stop. I went through the drive thru for my order. Waited awhile for my order to be taken. I ordered the steak baby burrito. Then waited at the window for about 15 mins for my food. Got the food home and it was well wrapped and still hot. The food was a large portion for the money. I felt the food was good and fresh, but the steak didn't seem to any type of seasoning to it. Normally, the steak should be the star of the dish, but it seem to be here. It all tasted the same. I visit this place quite often. This is the best Mexican casual dining restaurant in town. The food is very good. The the Baby Burrito is so big, I don't see how anyone can finish the giant burrito. The meat choices for the burritos are extensive. I tried the carnitas filled for the first time, and it's my new favorite. The service is friendly. Very friendly! They really make you feel like they care about your experience with them. The atmosphere is casual, as it's a converted fast food restaurant. The food speaks for itself. This location used to be El Burrito Loco. The name suddenly changed on the sign about 4 months ago, but the menu is exactly the same. Over the weekend we stopped in to grab some of their burritos for lunch. We inquired as to the name change and the very nice man working informed us that they have new management and with that a new name. He told us the menus is exactly the same, the ingredients are from the same supplier and nothing really changed but the name. This probably has to be the best Fast Food Mexican you can find... and it really isn't all that fast. They're not slow, but they aren't nearly as quick as some of the major fast food chains out there. Since they make everything as you order it, when you go through the Drive Thru you can end up waiting longer than anticipated. The first time I went here I ordered a chicken Burrito, what I was given was this thing the size of my head! It was huge. I kid you not the thing was the size of my head. It could have fed my wife and I easily. My wife had a beef burrito and she barely ate half of it. We've taken to calling this place the "home of the Head sized burrito". I will tell you that their super nachos and the flautas also are very good. If you go, you can get a baby burrito, which is still huge, but about half the size of the giant ones. The price is decent. The staff here sometimes seemed a little lacking in customer service skills. I've stood at the counter for a while before being asked my order and it has been rude sometimes, but not often. With the management change this has improved and we've noticed the staff is much nicer. If you are in the mood for Mexican and have a short lunch period. I'd recommend it. read more

Prices are decent at other times, too, but the lunchtime deal is a definite winner, 7 days a week and is available from "open until 2 p.m." daily as of this writing-don't sleep in too late or you'll miss this deal. Vegetarian friendly (several items. Few vegan items, though), enormous portions, very tasty. Potentially addictive. Available mild, hot/spicy, and everywhere in between. Very difficult to leave here hungry, esp. at lunchtime if you get their meal deal. "Regular" sized burrito is easily two meals in size unless you eat huge normally, and you can go to a larger size burrito if desired (or smaller: smaller size is similar to frozen-in size, and the larger size makes Chipotle's burrito look downright tiny. "Frozen" and "Chipotle" are used here strictly for Burrito-size purposes, not for food quality/taste comparisons). Former Burger King location/paint style indoors ads a slightly "divey vibe" here, for better or worse, with slight modifications to feel more Mexican in style. Bathrooms here are very tiny, but very functional-"Humpty Hump" of Digital Underground would have high difficulty "getting busy" in here... . TVs here usually play football, er soccer. Gooooooooooal! Drive through available, but get extra napkins-you'll need them because you'll be wearing your food if not careful-deal with it, buddy. Besides, you want both hands either on the wheel, or on this food. Service is friendly and usually pretty quick, even when they get crowded (and they do get crowded at times). Ca$h and "plastic" accepted to pay. I'd eat here more frequently if it wasn't in such an odd location for me (near five points: South Alpine/Newburg/Broadway/Center Terrace/Charles), but it's worth seeking out, and is very easy to find if you're not familiar with Rockford. Not far away from the East State Street path you're likely driving on while looking for a place to eat, and near a few other decent places also worth patronizing (e.g. Mark's Sushi, across the street; Stockholm Inn, a mile northwest from here). If you enjoy eating basic Mexican food, there's no need to be brave: you'll enjoy Burrito Bravo! read more

I got the carne asada dinner which came with rice, beans, flour tortilla, lettuce and tomatoes. My boyfriend got 2 chicken tacos, side of rice and beans, and a chicken enchilada. They have a big menu with lots of options and a drive-thru which is nice. Downside to this was that even if you were dining in it is still self-serve and I had to pay an extra dollar for a side of cheese. I was a fan of El Burrito Loco and this place is nearly identical. I don't believe the menu is any different. That being said, for whatever reason, the quality of the food here is better than its Auburn st. counterpart. Sure, the place is a dive. Yep, the service is friendly but lacking. However, you will not find better burritos anywhere in Rockford, and the prices are reasonable, considering the generous portions one receives. My suggestion: the carnitas chimichanga suiza. After I ordered, I waited about 5-10mins just to get to the window. I don't mind the wait if I know the food is good. As I pulled up, I paid and I was told to wait again in their waiting spots. Just so your aware I already waited before I paid, now I had to wait AGAIN for another 5-10mins in a drive through. When my food came out the lady also waiting next to me got her food before me even though I waited longer. I'm not one to complain, but if I'm waiting longer and paid first I expect to get my food first and the girl who brought out my food didn't even apologize for the long wait. This place is amazing. It's afordable the food is delicious and plentiful. I love the enchiladas al pastor, the pork is marinated in something that is addictively delicious. I usually get a tamale also. They are massive, about 10oz, and are the perfect texture, moisture, and consistancy. They do it right here and make them the traditional way with the corn husks. The meat they use stuff them is full of flavor and a slight kick of spice but not so much that it discurages you from adding some of their hommade hot sauces. I didn't give them 5 stars becaue the rice and beans that accompany the meal are nothing overly special. Both can be a little dry and lacking in flavor, nothing a little hot sauce can't fix. I'm just overly critical or rice and beans but this place is a solid 4 with little room for improvement. read more
