I'm very sad to leave this negative review. I really like Chavez but I seem to like it less and less these days. The last few times we went the service has been bad. Very, very slow, forgotten entrees and drinks. I even told a friend she must go try Chavez and she. She finally did she told me she would not go back. She said her food was bland and the server seemed angry and kept slamming stuff. However, the experience that bothered we the most was about a week ago. We went there with a family from Denmark. They were excited to try Mexican food. I ordered the BBQ quesadillas and so did one of the Danes sitting directly across from me. My husband also ordered a dish with shredded pork. Part way through eating my quesadillas I felt a very large bone in my mouth. Not the kind you could even swallow by accident. I had to very discretely spit it into my napkin because I didn't want the person eating the same dish to get grossed and a ruin their experience. I'm just really glad it wasn't in her dish. When we went home I told my husband about the bone and he said he actually had a bone in his shredded pork as well. This is not something I can overlook, so I will definitely not order that dish ever again. I will likely stick to cheese quesadillas there in the future. Places need to be more careful with the quality and preparation and their meat. Also, the service really needs improvement at this point. read more

Came here to celebrate a birthday on a January Saturday. Turned out, it's a party day! When we arrived around 1:30pm, there were already two big parties! Good sign! We waited for almost 20mins, and finally we asked if we could be seated at the bar at a high top enough for 6 people. The hostess was able to set up the table quickly for us. The menu was quite a broad range. I included a picture of items that were not commonly found in Mexican restaurants that I have been to. They also indicated Vegetarian or GF on the menu, so that's great. We were too busy catching up and eating that I didn't take any pictures of the foods! Take my (collectively) words, the food were delicious! The carne asada was cooked perfectly, and flavorfully seasoned. Pollo con mole was great - the mole sauce had a bit of a kick. Chicken tortilla soup had a roasted chipotle tone in the soup base, and made the soup much more interesting. Check out this restaurant when you are in the area. read more

The decor was nice, but usually if a restaurant is trying this hard, especially with the hot pink and green, the food isn't gonna be authentic. Which, going by the menu, it wasn't. The horchata was less than remarkable. The chile or "salsa" had little to no spice. This is catered to non latinos, the demographic in there was mostly Caucasian. Ate there for the first time. Had "Mocajete de mariscos" and fajitas. Tried to email a few comments directly to the restaurant Vs leaving a review, but they seemed to ignore it. Overall it was a good dining experience, but I do have some criticism. The menu indicates freshwater prawns, jalapenos and queso fresco in the Mariscos. None of which existed. There was however baby scallions which were a surprise. Unfortunately they were overcooked and chewy, as was the octopus. Not sure I will be back. I will say they have a good staff, it is a nice place, and the little burner on the fajitas is a nice touch. read more

Clean entrance, spacious, cute, good ambiance. Fast service. Authentic tasting food. The seafood menu looked amazing. Looking forward to going back to try more menu items. Ate here for the first time tonight. We've been to many Mexican restaurants in the area and I can honestly say that the chips and salsa are the best we've had! Edgar was our server and he was phenomenal! No drink was ever half empty and he had amazing tequila recommendations. He was blatantly honest when I tried to order a drink that he knew I wouldn't love (even though he just met all of us). Had the BBQ Quesadillas and the carne asada was delicious!!! We checked this hidden gem out for the first time tonight. It's in a long abandoned shopping plaza but well worth going. The hostesses were not the most friendly but once seated our experience definitely improved. The servers are fantastic and the food is delicious! My husband had fajitas and I had a burrito. Both are yummy!! The margarita is good but a touch on the weaker side. The ambiance is super cute with the fireplace, paintings and adorable lighting. All in all I would highly recommend you make the trip. read more

Placed a order over the phone, got 3 dinners and was told a order of chips and salsa come with each entree... WS told food would be ready for pick up in 15 min... Got there and waited probably 15 min on the food then it was missing the 2 horchatas so waited another 10 min for those and they weren't too busy yet... Then finally got them and went home to eat... Upon handing out the orders back at home I noticed one tiny bag of chips and no salsa at all... I then thought weather or not I wanted to call and say something so I could get my chips and salsa after paying $70.00 for dinner... So I called and the guy acted like I was lying or something and then told me we should only get one order of chips and salsa when the bag of chips they gave us wasn't big enough for a mouse and no salsa period. He then tells me that I can come up for one order of chips and salsa after paying $70.00 for a meal that costs them probably a buck to make.. We ate at Chavez this past Saturday. We both ordered the Super Burrito with barbacoa. We both had large bones and large pieces of membrane. Infact, the one burrito had four large pieces of membrane. If you haven't been there yet and you like real Mexican food, please go. First of all, you are greeted as you enter the door. The service was excellent. Our waitress was friendly and joked around with us and answered all our questions and got our 4 different orders right! We winter in the Southwest, so we are used to real Mexican food and Mr Chavez does not disappoint. The food was outstanding. From the chips, which were very fresh, to the salsa to the cream sauces to the seafood to the tacos. Everything was delicious. Please give it a try. We want to keep this one around. read more

We had been here once before, right after it opened in Feb and the service and food was great, even though the place was busy. So we wanted to try it again and arrived early, about 4:10 on a Saturday, hoping to beat the dinner rush, but the place was already crowded. We were told a 30 minute wait for a table of 3. so I told them we would be happily waiting at the bar. After 40 minutes, the hostess said that they had just gotten swamped by a party of 15 and a party of 12, and wouldn't be seating anyone else until the kitchen was able to catch up with this unexpected rush, but we would be next up. Another 30 minutes went by, and I noticed they were seating other groups at the tables in the bar area. Went back to check and they said "we called your name, but then gave away your table." (I had told her exactly where we were sitting at the bar). By then, I was unhappy and hangry, and told them of my disappointment. They checked again and found us a table in the back room, and we were finally seated at 6:20. The waiter was apologetic, and I assumed he would be trying to make up for the delay, but he again warned us that the kitchen help was swamped. We ordered a guac appetizer, and it was delivered in about 5 minutes. Another 5-10 minutes later and the waiter finally returned to take our dinner order. Other groups had been seated about the same time, and had already received their food. Another fifteen minutes and our food was finally delivered. The chicken taco's were too dried out to eat, but the wife and daughter's shrimp tacos were OK. Finally tracked the waiter down to request waters, that another person delivered. That's the last we saw of the waiter until he brought us our check, as he was busy with many other tables. They were obviously understaffed in the kitchen, and in the serving areas. I may try this restaurant again, in a month or two, after the owner has worked out the staffing, cooking, and service issues. read more

So we went to Chavez restaurant for the first time today. The food was fairly bland, our waitress was terrible and then to top it all off they over charged me. I paid with a card and a $74 dollar check somehow became $89 without my permission. I would never recommend a restaurant with such poor business practices to anyone. read more

We loved the way they decorated the inside. We were seated immediately, waitress came right over, ordered drinks and put our order in once they arrived. Food came less than 20 minutes after drinks and it was delicious! The dining area is huge and can accommodate large groups. read more
