Best place to eat in all of Lawrence. The place isn't the cheapest but I have never seen anyone disappointed in spending a few bucks here.

Not a terrible place, although I have had some rude servers here before. It is open until 3 am, which is a plus. The red salsa is delicous. Most KU students will swear that this place is awesome. Then again most KU students are always drunk and/or high so their opinion of what good food is can be pretty warped at times. The food is incredible, but I have to talk about this one lady that works there. My friends and I went there last night, and she was being really rude over the intercom, with snarky remarks, making it clear she did not want to be there at all. I told her I wanted potatoes instead of meat in my burrito, but when I got back to my dorm and bit into it, there was ground beef. So we went back to tell her that she got the order wrong but before we could, we heard her yelling at her coworkers so we got scared of her and didn't confront her. Instead, I just bought another burrito but this time, I made sure to tell her TWICE that I wanted potatoes in the burrito instead of meat. Then I looked at the burrito and there was ground beef in it again. She also charged me over 10$ for the burrito even though it's half that price. Now I'm crying in the club with over 15$ down the drain. So I tried to suck it up and call Burrito King to complain about the lady, but the lady picked up, so I tried to tell her that she got my order wrong twice, but she was being rude again and said "Oh I wasn't working during that time" even though she was. My year would be made if this lady got fired. She makes Burrito King look terrible, and is single-handedly ruining the reputation of Burrito King. read more

I love this place. Left a glowing review, but it was deleted by Yelp because I called myself a "pee butthole." Oh well, that's what I literally am! Anyways, this place has awesome food and it is open late. The lines don't lie! My best friend loves this place too. I'm stuck between one star and two, mostly because after a night of drinking, "The King" tastes amazing...but then I remember the couple of times stopped by during daylight hours and was neither impressed, nor totally grossed out with my over-stuffed hunk o'greasy meat. The best tacos el pastor I've had in my life. I'm constantly disappointed whenever I order them anywhere else. Their chorizo is also amazing. I lived in Lawrence for 10 years and this was one of my favorite places to eat (sober!). Now in KC I miss it so much. I get the pastor pork every time I'm in town! read more

I have eaten at this Restarunt a couple of times now and find their burritos to be quite good. I would go so far as to qualify this Restarunt as sleazy Mexican, and this is meant as a compliment. I loved going to hole in the wall Mexican restraints while I was living in California and I will return to this one often. It is the first good Mexican food I have had in Kansas. I also appreciate the selection of hot sauces they offer. My wife likes the fact that they have a vegetarian menu. And a big plus for me is the late hours, I work nights and am generally nocturnal so places that are open while I am up are awesome. read more

DON'T GO! This was by far the worst experience I've had with "Mexican" food. The service was terrible. The Mexican style tacos were bad- I had steak and chicken. Nom nom nom. Oh I'm sorry. Pardon me while I devour the rest of these yumtastic veggie burritos. So I moved to Lawrence with my pescatarian(totally not sure if I spelled that right) sister and she promised me a land of great burritos. She did not lie. I've found that since moving in with her I've become a sympathy pescatarian and feel guilty eating meat in the house. Burrito King filled the hole that meat hath left. There are plenty of meatless options and they are absotively posolutely the bomb dot com. Now I see people saying this is good when drunk or that it is not as good sober. I highly disagree. I have been at the in between state(also known as le hangover) and nothing settles me like Burrito King. So good is it that I gladly face the glaring sun to walk and get some. Used to go here when it was more simple just pretty much Burrito's big one's. The menu is kinda miss leading they say lunch burritos and breakfast burritos and dont have a time on the menu when u can order these. The only Burrito I seen u can get late now was the smothered Burrito and one other need to make it more simple and take out lunch and breakfast if you just serve them all day. and make more value meal Burrito options !! Told blonde girl at window no cheese on order. I said I cannot have cheese. I called Burrito King when I got home to tell them they messed up the order. This place gets it wrong 90% of the time. They forgot one food item last time. When I called I said, "can I talk to the manager?" Same blonde girl at the window answered, "they're not here". She said there is an owner but they're not there. I said, can I please talk to a different worker? She said blatantly, "no," without explanation. I told her that the person making the food didn't get the memo of no cheese and that there was maybe a protocol missing for if it needs cheese or not, for instance, because it was my second wrong order and everything looked right on the bag (she took my order well). I said I want my order refunded, and she said "no". The girl said I won't be allowed to talk to someone else if "I talk like that." Apparently in response to, "don't you "Well, lady," me..." (excuse phrases from worker never really let up). I said I haven't said one dirty word, and I want my order refunded and she said I can bring back the order "but you won't get a refund". I suppose I could go waste half my morning driving back over and waiting (in line) to get my order fixed, but I have things to do. This place employs unprofessional and inappropriate young "adults". Wow there are some really low reviews for a place I am a big fan of. For starters I only order one thing, chicken tacos. The chicken tacos are full of greasy delicious chicken. If you are overly health conscious well then you shouldnt be eating fast food anyways. I do not know why the reviews are so low. They have the best burritos in lawrence. They also have the best (and hottest) sauces. The service is fast, the food is well prepared, and delicious. The proteins they use are legit, whereas taco bell is like ground up dirt covered with oil. Seriously should have a straight 4 stars at least. read more

I ordered the regular breakfast burrito since it was the special on Sunday morning. When I went to pay, I was charged full price. I asked about it but the women claimed there are no specials for Sunday (even though it was still listed on the board and there is even a picture here on Yelp). This place is better than even a lot of the sit down Mexican restaurants in town. Things that are great: Mexican style soft tacos with soft corn tortillas and cilantro, the pastor meat and the spicy beef, the tamales are the best in town. Also the burritos are great, they use refried beans and I believe fried rice. read more

Face it, you know why you're there. It's approaching the early AM's of the morning, you're stumbling back from whatever bar/house party you've been at the last few hours, and now you're super hungry. That said, I've enjoyed Burrito King plenty of times while sober as well. Large serving sizes will match any appetite and you might even have some left over. My go to is the smothered chicken burrito with white queso. Soooooo good. Their rice is delicious as well. This place is a 4/5 while sober for me, but a 10/5 while drunk. read more

Love the chicken taco's!!! The chicken is actually marinated shredded chicken breast not some questionable meat with fillers added to it. They are super simple but with the home-made salsa (given to you with the taco) they are a very healthy option when you are faced with eating at fast food joints. The 2 star rating isn't because of the food. The quality of their food is great. They have yummy fresh salsas (they have at least 5 different kinds), great nachos, authentic Mexican burritos, tamales, and other great entrees. However, my beef with this place is the service. They always manage to mess up my order, and they always skimp on the salsa (and force you to pay an extra 0.50 for each itty bitty container). Every time I ask for guacamole, (mind you I don't mind paying extra) they always "forget" to add it. It angers me because it's not like they forgot to add it to my tab, you know? Last time I went I had to check my nachos for it, low and behold, they forgot it. AGAIN. I tapped on the window, waved for their attention. They.... They WAVED BACK as if I was saying goodbye or some sh!t. Then went back to being lazy and started gabbing away with each other. I tapped on the window again. Finally they opened the window and I said "Hi I'm sorry to bother you but I did order a side of guacamole... And for the third time now I didn't get it. Can I have it please?" They didn't even bother to give me a decent amount. There were no "I'm so so sorry"-ies. There was no "here I'll give you a little extra since we have messed up your order so many times." Nope. None of that. I have worked as a barista, dog groomer, and a sales clerk before so I get that customer service can be awful... But for fcuks sakes guys please try to act as if you care about your job. Please act like you care to make someone's day with yummy food and drinks. We loved it. Went there on June 29 in mid-afternoon during a visit to Lawrence, where we used to live, and had the hit the old haunts (at least what was still around 15 years later). Three of us had steak burritos that were even better than we'd remembered--moderately priced for a huge burrito that is packed. The salsa is great--two of us had the red salsa and one of us had the green salsa, and everyone really loved the food. We were just there for the day so we all finished what we ate on the spot (made sure we arrived with empty stomachs), but when we used to get these in the 1990s, we would do carryout and I could get one burrito to last 3 meals (we were on a budget--at the time a burrito was around $3, now I think they were around $5 or $6 each--but were working & in our 30s so I don't know what the student 2am experience was at this place because we always hit it up for lunch). Really glad to see it's still there and if we ever go back to Lawrence, we will definitely go back to Burrito King. read more
