Cute place in Duluth. A definite try. Coming from Milwaukee, I was excited to find a place with Bloody Mary's so we were off for Sunday Funday! The Bloody is OK, not what I'm used to but not terrible. The burritos however, that is what you are going there for! I tried the Empire steak burrito and my companion had the buffalo chicken burrito. Ordered a Buffalo chicken burrito, said it contained chicken lettuce and guac. It never mentioned any other ingredients so pretty safe to assume that's all that comes on it. Well I was surprised when it had beans on it, cause it never said anywhere it had beans. So I asked them if I could get it w/o beans. They said they couldn't and I'd have to pay full price for another lol. All they have to do is say it contains rice and beans and you don't. The food is edible at best. Wouldn't even call it decent. Service is very lacking. Asked for a side of sauce when the food came and was done eating before she returned with it. The only way to get your fill is to empty your wallet on the Rasputin at an astounding $14.99 I came with two buddies and we were all very hungry, so we ordered the large burritos. As I was served my burrito I was given like 5 chips on my plate, and they spilled three of them on my lap. After coming here a few times, I am always leaving this place shrugging my shoulders. The food, service and restaurants are bland! The beer is trashy Fitger's beer. Have not found a single beer that I enjoy. Simply refuse to buy a beer here now. Servers seem more interested in chatting with their friends then actually doing their jobs. Food always comes out slowly. I like veggie burritos, so I usually go with the vegan socialist. But it always tastes like grass. The burritos don't really taste like anything unless you cover them in the salsa. Chips are cold and sometimes soggy. The Turkey burritos that everyone hypes in November are so OVERHYPED. They are very dry and overpriced! Burrito places are few and far between in the Twin Ports area but I recommend Sir Ben's for a better burrito that's nearby. Went to this fine establishment on the day Duluth had Grandmas marathon. It was quite busy. We got sat down within 10 minutes. We got the apricot wheat beer which was delicious! Then got the spicy redhead burrito and Hawaiian bu burger. We hoped these would be spicy but they were quite mild. The food is alright but the beer was great! The Juevo Rancheros had amazing flavor and could have fed two linebackers. After spending the day in Duluth, my fiancé and i stumbled across Union burrito. Unfortunately, it was a bad way to end a gorgeous day. We ordered to go, as the patio was full and we are from out of town. I ordered the ding nachos with shrimp and got neither the "ding sauce" nor the shrimp (4.99 extra) along with a generous portion of plain tortilla chips. My fiancé got the "smoke show shrimp tacos" which claim per the menu to be chipotle brown sugar shrimp that are served with lettuce, diced tomatoes, Parmesan and a side of guacamole. The tacos instead came with 3-4 slimy taco seasoned shrimp on a dry bed of lettuce and a sprinkling of tomatoes, no Parmesan, no guacamole, although I don't think either would have made the tacos any more tolerable. It also took 45 min only to be dissatisfied and left to feel like suckers paying 29.00 for that garbage. Had we not already been on the road, we would have gone back for a total refund . 0 stars If i could . We will not be back. read more

I'm from Minneapolis and place used to be a staple on all visits to Duluth, but probably not anymore. It's changed in the last few years, in ways that don't particularly appeal to me. Gone is the crust punk/student vibe. Gone is the Soviet kitsch menu design. They have expanded the menu and added things like cheese curds and elote bites, seemingly at the expense of their existing menu items. I can name 4 or 5 restaurants nearby where I can get cheese curds, why here? Meanwhile, the quality has of the other menu items has gone down. I used to love the Ding nachos, but the last time I got them they were flavorless, cold, and had inexplicable pieces of celery spread throughout. The burritos have gotten increasingly unremarkable and flavorless as well. Last time both my boyfriend and I received water with dirt floating around the bottom, which was massively unappetizing. I'm not sure why management has decided to take Burrito Union in this particular direction but I'm definitely not into it. This is unfortunate because I used to love this place, but don't plan to come back again after my last few visits. read more

Knowing the challenges that restaurants are facing during covid, I want to be respectful of the fact that the portions, ingredients, concept, etc were all on point. But it lacked two simple yet critical components across the board: Salt & Heat. We ordered guac, queso, chicken burrito, and carnitas burrito -- and feedback covers all four items. The one burrito that was made correctly was very good but for waiting over an hour, incorrect orders and ice cold food is unacceptable. read more

We're local, so we have been here before, but it has been awhile. We were looking for something tasty and fresh, and Burrito Union did not disappoint! I got the "Ding Nachos" with shrimp, and I had no idea what I have been missing! What an interesting and flavorful dish! Hubby got a mammoth jerk shrimp burrito and my son got beef tacos. I guess my only "complaint" about the food would be is that his tacos were really greasy (pictured). He didn't eat much of them but we'll reheat then at home on a paper towel. Otherwise food was fantastic!! Service was friendly, but not too fast. I watched food sit ready to be taken out for a long time the whole time we were there and we waited almost 10 minutes for our beer. Thankfully we weren't in a huge hurry or anything. read more

We came here when we visited the North shore. It came up because we are vegetarian, and I will say that it's not very vegetarian friendly up there, so it was a pleasant surprise finding this place. It is a very cute decor; I would say, it doesn't match the theme of Mexican food, but it is still very rustic, cute look. We started with the salsas, guacamole, and quest which were all great. The spicy salsa was great! A lot of places do not have the spice I am looking for, but this had the kick that I needed. My son got the quesadilla with black beans which he thoroughly enjoyed with dipping it in guacamole. In addition to the appetizers, we also had the deep fried avocado tacos which were great. If we come back, I will definitely be back for the tacos. The downside is that my dad and I ordered margaritas and they were not good. They didn't taste fresh. I will not be ordering drinks here again. I would definitely recommend this place to others if you are vegetarian or not. read more

I don't love this place as much as I used to. We ordered ding nachos without cheese and it came with very little ding sauce (maybe they should have added a little more sauce since we don't do dairy?) and a tablespoon or two of salsa (yummy salsa) on the side. Really? Two tablespoons? Is that enough salsa for four people sharing the ding nachos? The music was LOUD and we found ourselves shouting to our guests across the table. SHOUTING. Everybody else in the place was shouting as well. I guess I don't see the attraction of not being able to carry on a conversation with the people with whom I'm dining. Besides, shouting gives me a headache. The place should have been crowded on a Saturday night, but it wasn't. I can remember coming to this place when it was packed all the time. Not the brightest bulbs. Ordered online, very clumsy website. I arrived to pick up my order. Took a while for anyone to acknowledge me. I was told that my order was coming up. 10 minutes later I'm told the same thing. Stood there about 20 minutes in total. In the mean time I watched approximately 8 different people come in and be told they weren't serving food because they were "3 screens full". Various Door dashers came in and their orders weren't ready either. Finally got my food. Ordered a taco dinner to feed 8, comes with two proteins. The proteins were cold and barely enough to serve 4 in total. Sure were enough tortillas. There were an inordinate amount of tortillas however. I estimate there were about 60 tortillas. Ordered a Fat Capitalist burrito as well. It's supposed to have carnitas, cheese, red onion, salsa, and sour cream. It did not. It literally was 90% rice and we counted 4 little chunks of what was supposed to be carnitas I'm guessing. That was $13. Seriously was upset Food was meh, price was not commiserate to quality and the service sucked. Also here is a little tip to the staff. We didn't serve in the Army together nor do we work in the same ER. It's "I'm sorry Sir" not "Sorry man". There's not a lot of seating, so if you're going during a weekend get there early if you can. Most disappointing $12 burrito ever. Ordered the "Pyeongchang" special burrito. It was plain bland white rice with no seasoning, a tiny amount of curry sauce with no spice, and a little bit of pork. A shot glass sized portion of bland mild pico came with the side of chips, which only covered about 4 of the 25 chips. I felt forced to put standard Sriracha on everything, which made it taste like a burrito I could have made at home. My friend was charged an extra $1 for an additional side of the bland pico. Fresh salsa should come in abundance in a custom burrito place.... Also, the burrito was about half the size of an average Chipotle burrito. I'm still hungry, which is not how you want to feel after a $12 burrito that you just waited 25 minutes for (why does it need to take 25 minutes to wrap a burrito?) This place does not understand yummy food and I would not recommend eating here. If you want a good burrito, skip this place. I feel hungry because the portions were too small, and I feel unsatisfied because flavor was so bland. Really disappointing:( read more

I am sad to be changing my review from 4 stars to 1, but I think it is more than warranted. I stopped by last night for take-out. When you are doing a "build your own" style burrito, they no longer let you walk down the line and tell them what you want (like Chipotle). I was dubious that my order would be correct after repeating it to the order taker 3+ times without seeming to break through his confusion. I tried to keep an eye on the makings while I was waiting and saw one of the workers put chicken on a burrito, then swear and remove *most* of the chicken. I said if that was mine, I didn't want it since I'm vegetarian. He snipped and said it wasn't mine and just kept on going - so they delivered a supposedly vegetarian burrito with bits of hidden chicken to some other customer who is likely veggie as well. Lovely. Once we got our burritos home, 2 of the 4 were incorrect. I am so disgusted that someone would serve a "vegetarian" item to someone knowing it had meat in it. I don't plan to ever go back to Burrito Union, which saddens me since I previously loved this joint. :( read more

Was in yesterday. Amazing service as always. Our server was so nice and attentive. I absolutely love this place and the food here. Seems like they may have changed the nachos just a little. I realized that they added onions to them but is still tasted amazing. I tried to call for delivery but for some odd reason they stopped delivering....Why ever did they stop delivering, this makes me super sad! They need to start heating their queso dip up alittle more though. After about 5 min it's getting extremely thick. Over all its still amazing food and the service is still top quality. read more

I hope they improve, they have a great opportunity with little competition to serve great tacos. I've tried this place a few times and each one was a it's. The food takes anywhere 20-60 minutes to be served, typically 40+ minutes. The margaritas are good, though, I support dining in for these; even though the service is, again, very slow. Now, when you're served, it's probably going to be a variation of what you ordered. Food allergies? Don't bother, they haven't kept an order straight for me once. Bummer. Good luck guys. read more

A few buddies and I came to Duluth for a bachelor party weekend, and stopped in here for lunch. The atmosphere is cool and unique but the food was average. I got a personal burrito, asked for no beans; they started off by bringing me someone else's burrito, then mine that had beans that I had returned, and once again came back with beans again. I got 2 salsas that were mediocre and guacamole. 1, like I said, the salsas weren't good. 2. I didn't want guacamole I wanted another salsa. I got steak tacos which were the worst tacos I've ever had. They were supposed to come with chips and salsa which I didn't get. I wanted to like Burrito Union more than I did. I'll give them props for a great location (Chester Bowl), atmosphere (kitschy Commie), and service (friendly, accomodating to families). But, I wasn't super thrilled with the food. To be fair, my husband liked his quite a bit and LOVED that he could pair his burrito with a local beer. I had a margarita that was fine. We started our meal with chips, guac, and medium salsa. The chips were thick and rather bland (unsalted?) and the salsa was watery and flavorless--more like a blended pico de gallo. The guac was smooth, but had a good taste. I tend to like flavor that assaults my tongue, as do a couple of our kids, so we ordered the hot pineapple habanero salsa next, which was better but not spectacular. For our entrees, I tried the Empire Builder, while my husband tried the Imperial Chicken--both were two-fisted. The kids had small bean burritos and liked them well enough. Mine was again somewhat bland, with tough steak strips, a cold tortilla, and the red chipotle sauce inside had an odd spaghetti sauce flavor to it--almost no heat whatsoever. My husband enjoyed his burrito (I liked it better than mine) and said he'd return.
