While visiting Superior, WI, I had a taste for some chicken. We decided to go to Izzy's Bbq Lounge & Grill. When we first got there we were wondering our life choices. But once inside and talking to the bartender on duty, who was quite humorous, you'll find out it's not so bad. What a great place to eat and the staff are the friendliest. My husband and I have loved everything we have ordered there. Izzy and his wife Dee are often there and really make the patrons feel welcome. Friday fish fry is great, ribs are meaty and delicious, my favorite burger is the Izzy burger, it is stacked high, even with one or two of their fabulous onion rings on it. I wasn't expecting much when I was driving to Izzy's, but apparently my expectations were too lofty. My wife and I walked in and were immediately greeted with glares by the patrons of the musty and worn establishment. What's that saying, rode hard and put away wet? Yep, that sums it up. Anyways, the glares from the degenerates that peaked in GED class didn't bother me as much as the glare I got from the bartender! She acted as if we were an inconvenience. We ordered a drink and sat there trying not dip our elbows in the sludge on the bar. Five minutes later the bartender and kitchen staff got into a squabble. The kitchen staff wanted her out of their space so the bartender responded with "ranch, mother f'er!". We paid our bill as quick as possible and ran to the door faster than a middle aged white woman clicks "buy now" on Temu. The only reason I'm not ranking Izzy's 1 star is because the drinks are dirt cheap. Will return once hell freezes over. read more

Had the platter. Too much sauce on the chopped brisket (personally, I don't like any on brisket) and it really covered up the flavor of the meat. Ribs were ok, seemed oven-braised, not smoked. Fries, rings, and curds were all tasty...rings were cooked right! Decent selection of local brews and the people were really nice. I'll go back to try some other stuff on the menu. read more

My wife and i stopped in on our way to Two Harbors on a Monday for lunch. We were the only ones in the place. I ordered the brisket basket and my wife ordered the 1/3 lb cheeses burger. The brisket was very tender but it was the fries that impressed me. They are hand cut in their kitchen. There was no way the cheese burger was 1/3 lb. It was at least 1/2 lb and delicious. Good food at a fairly reasonable price. BBQ was on the sweet side-brisket was just okay . Fries have great seasoning, but were on the burnt side. What an amazing little bar. Possibly the most unassuming place you would see...the outside look does nothing for the place...but once you get out of your car, see the smokers on the side of the building, and SMELL the amazing things they have cooking. You will know you have found a little piece of great cooking. The family orders a couple burgers which were thick and juicy....done to perfection, tased amazing, I had the fish fry....again great flavor, light on the breading...but in our opinion the Brisket burger/sandwich was possibly the best brisket we have had. Did I mention the Brisket? They do it all there at the bar grill. Smoke it till it's done. Tastes like it should...cooked low and slow with the right amount of smoke...melt in your mouth Brisket. I have no idea what to expect. New place. We just sat down and so far all I know is the staff is great, the decor is hunting cabin awesome, the space is large and inviting and it smells good! Bartender Birch is fast, knowledgeable, and knows the art of bar tending. I am pleasantly surprised because I see the art of bar tending fading rapidly. I assume he is hot because the women are doting. Or....is that because he is in the National Guard and a patriot? Got the jalapeño poppers as an app, they are standard frozen bar fare, not great not bad. Great outside smoking area, out of the wind, convenient. Izzy just came out to greet us an the other patrons, he is a gracious host. Ordered the Ribs izzy is famous for. There is good reason for Izzy's ribs to be famous. The bones can be pulled right out of the meat, the meat is done, they were perfectly cooked. The sauce is a sweet delicious red sauce. Not everyone likes the same amount of sauce on their ribs so be sure to order the sauce on the side. The bake potato was cooked perfectly, not dry, not undercooked. This dive bar is off the path of most restaurants, doesn't have the most attractive facade, but it has ample parking, a super friendly staff, and excellent food! So glad we used Yelp to find this place! We tried the fried chicken, Philly cheese steak, ribs, and mozz sticks...all so very good! And to top it all off a massive heap of French Fries. Be sure to bring your appetite if you want to challenge the first basket they bring you because it's also all you can eat for $10.99 I however bowed out. This place was completely out of their BBQ options when we went so we were limited to burgers and fried chicken. The burgers were okay but not cooked properly. The fries were very overcooked and extremely soggy, almost inedible. Their fried chicken was extremely rubbery and greasy. They also completely messed up our order. It was clear that we were not valued ad much as the regulars/employees that were drinking heavily on either side of us. We had to fight to get the stuff we had originally ordered, which ended up being frozen-to-fried garbage. Walked in for the first time on Sunday to shoot some pool and hang out. Before walking in here, my date and I went to three places before deciding to go check out Izzy's. The biggest pool hall in Superior, Top Hat was closed on Sunday. Why? Anyway, the second place we went to was the Last Resort and it was absolutely filthy. Turned around and walked right out, then we went to Schultz's because they used to have pool tables, but they took them all out. Why? So after being quite disappointed, it was an absolute treat walking into Izzy's, which was clean and had a terrific atmosphere, and the food smelled so good! So, after shooting some pool and playing music, we ordered food. The number one best chicken wings I've ever had! Their fries are fresh cut! The coleslaw was even excellent! I plan on coming back here and telling all my friends that we have been missing out. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would! read more

I ordered a prime rib sandwich but got a steak sandwich. The waitress explained they were out of prime rib so a steak was cut to "be like prime rib" and they added a side of au jus to be like a French Dip. I appreciate the effort. It would've been better being told upfront and offered a chance to change my order. The steak was tough and had some gristle in it. Not like prime rib. Here's the thing. I'll be back. This would have been a five star rating. Food was delicious, drinks were cheap, bar was fun and inviting. But my girlfriend left feeling awful about herself, and that negates everything else for me. We were staying in the Best Western Hotel, which is walking distance from the bar. We planned to stay for a while and have a few drinks since we didn't have plans that night. Shortly after arriving though, the waitress misgendered my girlfriend, who is a beautiful, feminine girl and was wearing a floral scarf and had worked hard on her makeup that night. We let this slide, assuming it might have been a slip up. But when my girlfriend paid with her credit card which still has her dead name, the waitress decided to ask a clarifying question about her dead middle name and then compare her to the waitress's husband. My girlfriend had already had a bad day as far as feeling good about her gender, and this just made things worse. We left after 2 drinks and decided to go elsewhere. We will be warning friends about this place as well. If you care at all about respecting people and their gender identities, I would strongly suggest choosing a different establishment. read more

There were about 10 of us dining at Izzy's. 5 adults, 5 kids. Luckily, it allowed me to sample everything I wanted to order. I got the brisket and a side of cole slaw. I eat most BBQ Memphis style. The cole slaw blended perfectly with the brisket and very good BBQ sauce. The fries are wonderful. I also tried the Philly Cheesesteak and the Mushroom and Swiss burger and both were very good. The kids got wings and shrimp baskets. Everyone was full. No complaints out of anyone and we will all stop in Izzy's the next time we are in Superior. read more

I finally made it to Izzy's. I dragged my son along with me. I am thrilled that I went. I had the fried chicken and my son had a burger with steak fries rather than the skin on fries, since I got them with my chicken. EVERYTHING was delicious - and I am fussy because I owned a local restaurant and now have a food truck. I can't wait to go back. The lady working (on a Friday) was awesome. My wife said it was the best friend chicken she has ever had - juicy, meaty, and with a delicious light breading. Burger was fantastic as well. Highly recommended! My guests and I ordered the ribs, the pulled pork, and the Philly beef sandwich. All three were great. The Philly was one of the best I've had outside of Philadelphia. The ribs were meaty and lean; they were slathered in a good smoky BBQ sauce. And the pulled pork sandwich featured a generous portion of lean, moist, flavorful pulled pork, with enough sauce to add flavor but not overwhelm the meat. The only disappointments were the fries (limp and soggy) and onion rings (seemed to be frozen rings cooked in a deep fryer). The best BBQ in the Duluth-Superior region. read more

When we pulled up, there were smokers outside. Good sign! We sat down, and ordered the catfish, the brisket, and the pulled pork. 45 minutes later the waitress told us they were out of the pulled pork. If they were busy, we'd understand, but we were the only people eating there, and there were maybe three people at the bar. It took 1 3/4 hours to get our food. The fries were cold and soggy, the brisket was completely overcooked, and the catfish tasted.. just bad. Obviously frozen, cheap fish you buy by the bag. We decided to get the chicken instead of the pulled pork, and it was alright. Completely grease covered, but that was to be expected. When we went to pay, the woman couldn't figure out how to run our card. It was a gift card, so again, we were understanding. She ran the receipt back, and told us to fill it out and sign it with her standing there. She was obviously looking for a good tip, but considering she decided not to tell us about the pulled pork until 45 minutes later, checked up on us once, and brought out food that had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp for a while, we weren't pleased. Not apologetic, and just acted like she didn't want to be there. We tipped her, paid our bill,and left. I get some places have bad days, and I'm hoping that was the case with this place.
