They're small, thin, and almost snack-sized, but there's a surprising amount of flavor packed into each one. And for the record, Burritos La Palma does not have a Michelin Star. It's simply Michelin-rated, having been given the Bib Gourmand award for great food at a reasonable price. The birria is the obvious choice, and for good reason. The meat is tender, juicy, and well seasoned. I also like that the smaller size makes it easy to order a few different fillings instead of committing to one giant burrito. There's not much spice, but take a bite out of the serrano and you're all set. This is more of a grab-and-go spot than somewhere you're going to sit down and have a leisurely meal, though there is some seating available. I do have to rant a little about the Michelin confusion because I genuinely don't understand how people keep calling this place "Michelin-starred." A Michelin Star is the prestigious award people associate with the Michelin Guide. A Bib Gourmand award from Michelin is not a star, and the distinction is pretty straightforward. Burritos La Palma has received the latter, recognizing great food at a reasonable price, which is certainly worth celebrating, but saying it has a Michelin Star is simply incorrect and can set unrealistic expectations. I've seen this place on Instagram maybe about 6 months ago and was infatuated! I've been meaning to go and I finally was able to try it! I got the deshebrada, chicken tinga and birria burritos to go. It came in a box with a serrano pepper and 2 salsas. Every burrito was bursting with savory flavorful tender meat and juices all wrapped into a delicious homemade flour tortilla. It's hard to pick a favorite but I think my favorite was birria. The serrano pepper on the side was so spicy, I made the mistake of taking big bites of it. I think an avocado salsa would be so delicious to help cut the heat of the serrano with these burritos! The salsas on the side were watery but flavorful! I got the chicken tinga, con todo (birria with beans and cheese) then the beef with green chile. The tortillas were great, fresh and flour. Both beef ones were super flavorful. Chicken tinga was my least favorite of the three, due to it being the least flavorful/spicy, but it was still good. It's located at the end of a tiny strip mall so parking is dicey. The menu is small (6 kinds of the burritos and 3 kinds of quesadillas). We noticed that they added a new item to the menu- nachos! Between us, we ordered all the burrito flavors and the new nachos. The burritos are skinny so 2-3 per person (adults) is plenty. First time at Burritos La Palma in a Santa Ana strip mall with plenty of parking. Small, clean spot with only about 5-6 tables and lots of takeout orders. Lilly at the register was super friendly and helped walk us through the menu. Even gave us her favorite, the deshebrada, which was solid. We ordered the birria, frijol con queso, deshebrada, spicy chicharrón (my favorite), and a side of refried beans. Everything was packed with flavor. The burritos are small, but they definitely deliver. Drink selection was great too with Mexican Coke and plenty of Jarritos. They also have nachos and tortas. Only downside was the salsa. They only have one and it's pretty mild, which was a little disappointing. Luckily they give you whole serrano peppers for extra heat. I have tried the bean & cheese, deshebrada, and birria burritos. The order comes with a little container of red salsa, which is delicious and a little spicy. A perfect addition to a tasty burrito! Parking here can be a challenge. The lot is quite small and if it is full, you may need to park somewhere nearby and walk a bit further. Inside is also small; there are a few tables inside and no patio. I grabbed my food to-go anyway but just be warned this might not be a good place to sit and eat if you come with a group. Staff is friendly and service is quick. I wish they had agua fresca available, but it's ok. I like to grab 2 burritos as they recommend 2 per person due to the small size. Is it "the best"? Each burrito is a little under $4 and not your average burrito that you would normally think of (filled with rice beans cheese meat etc) they're more like rolled tacos almost but softer. I wish they had a loyalty card. I come here all the time. It's my default meal when I forget to pack lunch. The chicken tinga is the winner for me, especially with the salsa. The salsa is a little wet, and eating a bug bite of salsa plus burrito means your hands will get dirty, and it will be so worth it. Cashier is always nice and helpful. Service is quick. Burritos La Palma has been on my list of places to try for awhile, I finally said we were GOING. We had lunch here on a Saturday, got there right after they opened and it was pretty slow, no issue with getting a table. The place is tiny, so I could see that being an issue. The two guys working were so friendly and kind, had great customer service. We each got 2 burritos and it was plenty, we walked out very full. Prices are great, lunch was about $20 for the two of us. I had Chicken Tinga (with chipotle & potatoes) and Deshebrada (shredded beef with green chiles & potatoes), both were really good. LOVE their homemade tortillas, my husband said he wished they sold them. Tinga was spicy, but not hot enough to blow my palate. Deshebrada was really good, I think I would add cheese next time. We both enjoyed the salsa served on the side. Husband had Deshebrada and Birria, Frijoles & Queso. This was our favorite by far, I will definitely order that one next time! All the burritos were well made, didn't fall apart, super juicy (especially the Tinga!) and packed with flavor. In my opinion I felt they could stuff their burritos a little more considering how small they are. The quality of their meats were decent, but my personal favorite was the birria with cheese and beans and the deshebrada. Their house salsa has no spice whatsoever, it seemed more like a pico de gallo, but they served a chile Serrano on the side which helped deliver a kick. This is a restaurant who up until 2023, got a Michelin Star every year. Suddenly it stopped. Michelin Stars are awarded to restaurants for: Quality of the ingredients Mastery of flavor and cooking techniques The personality of the chef in the cuisine Value for money Consistency across multiple visits Michelin Stars have been awarded since 1926 by the French Michelin Tire Company. It is one of the most coveted awards world-wide. It is clear why this restaurant no longer rates a Michelin Star. It is also clear why it is not very busy no matter what time you visit. A very small, very skinny burrito is $4.95 and adding cheese or sauce can cost an additional $0.45 to $0.75 each. A small bowl of beans is $4.25. An average person will spend $20 to eat. There is no salsa bar, no place to get condiments, sauces, or anything else...you can help yourself to water and soft drinks, eat with plastic forks...if you order for two, the meal must be picked up at the counter...no table service...and it comes on one tray in a single basket..not even a separate plate for two people. The red and green sauces are both watery - these are not "salsa" like you would expect in a regular Mexican restaurant but their own idea of a sauce - and green is not green but a sickly yellow color and if you order an extra you pay $0.75 and get a small plastic cup. The menu is burritos and quesadillas, no tacos, no enchiladas. The menu is minimalist, as is the seating and lack of salsa stations. Clearly the statement is "it costs alot to make these burritos and we're not going to give you any extras." The experience is "zero hospitality" and again "minimalist" comes to mind. You sit in rows of small stainless steel tables. Some are "rickety" and rock back and forth badly so you have to change tables. Chairs were not really designed for humans. The claim to fame is their tortillas - they don't describe their sourcing at all - modern restaurants even fast food like "burger lounge" or "in and out" tell you what kind of oil they use to cook, where they get their meats, cheeses, etc. and especially important for burritos is sourcing of gluten products - flour for tortillas may taste good but is it laced with glyphosate sprayed on the grains during and after growing? Anyone who eats out regularly and doesn't pay attention to sourcing is just not wanting to live a long, healthy, and pain-free life. There are lots of better choices for both menu and hospitality. read more

I know the restaurant has a Michelin star due to their consistency but the salsa based on my previous visits has varied. Hubby was very impressed with the bean and cheese burrito.
