This is my go to place to eat before shopping at Mercado. I get the Asada Torta. The meat is tender and flavorful! The bun is soft and lightly toasted! It's a solid little taco stall inside the northgate market. Al pastor and the carne were great for what it is but hard to compete in this saturated taco market lol. Great if you need to do a quick grocery run or want to visit a bunch of other stalls. Could spend a few hours in here on a food tour too. They're a few bucks a pop so not too bad and easy to grab a plate and keep going around. Quick service super friendly staff. The tacos were cheap under $4 and reasonable very similar to street tacos and tasted authentic to me. They have salsa bar, filled with onions, cilantro etc. To me the best meat there is the Al Pastor. The quesadillas are huge and filling not bad for $10 bucks. The salsas are spicy in my opinion whether the green or red. The ambiance is very busy, but sometimes it's nice to hear the band playing on the stage it can be pretty loud. Located inside Mercado Gonzalez is this amazing lil taco stand. I tried their Al Pastor today in burrito form. This behemoth of a burrito was freaking amazing. My friends and I had heard so many good things about Northgate Market, so we made sure to stop by during our road trip. The market is huge and has tons of small business vendors, kind of like a food court. Tacos Los Guichos, offers tacos under $4 each. I really liked their self-serve salsa bar, which had onions, cilantro, sliced radishes, limes, and both mild and spicy sauces. We got two carne asada tacos and one lengua taco. The tacos were on the smaller side (but that wouldn't have mattered if they were really tasty). Sadly, the carne asada was chopped so small it almost looked like ground beef, and it didn't have any of that nice grilled flavor- it was kind of bland. The lengua taco was good though, and I would order that one again. The lengua meat was chopped into nicely portion cubes and was soft and tender. (Lengua is ox tongue) The service was great, and the staff was friendly and smiled every time we passed by. As for the ambiance, the location is perfect--it's part of a bigger Hispanic market. They have both indoor and outdoor seating; we sat outside, it was beautiful and nicely shaded. read more

Came on a Monday lunch and this place was packed. The line was about 15 minutes and it was the longest compared to other places. The wait for the tacos to be cooked was another 20 minutes. They were pretty cheap granted the tacos are kinda small, but they were filled with lots of meat. For the time you need to wait for these tacos I might opt for something else. It's good, but nothing special. Carne Asada- 3.75/5: I preferred the taste of this one to the Al pastor, but the meat was on the drier side in comparison. Tacos Quesadillas and Tortas is what this place feature. Now those are three really hard things to pick from cause they all sound good. For a change this time I got the Cuban Torta which has a little bit of everything in there from ham to chorizo and all the good stuff. Since they have a nice salsa bar there you can add your own flavors to it. The salsa verde is my personal favorites as I feel like that goes great with everything. It doesn't come with any sides but you can always add rice, beans or any other sides to it. The sandwich was fresh and tasty and does the job. The prices here are great too. This is located inside the Northgate Mercado, so the lines and wait times are quite long, especially on weekends. They need to fix their pick-up system because there were two stations at opposite ends and it confused me a lot. One was closer to the order station and the sauce bar while the other was closer to the kitchen and the rest of the staff. Everyone who ordered stood all over the place because they were unsure of where to go as well. I ended up having to ask for my order because of how confusing and disorganized it was, and my food turned out to just be sitting there for a while. I ordered a lengua (tongue) burrito and it was okay. The tongue was good and had a good, soft texture but was not too flavorful, so the bean and cheese drowned out most of its remaining flavors. I had to eat it with a lot of sauce. Because of the confusion and delay, the burrito was no longer hot when I ate it. For $11 and the amount of tongue inside the burrito, I would consider it fairly priced. Maybe I'll come back and try their tacos next time. read more

Visit date 1/14. I hate to be a partypooper. I like the new Mexican mall concept, but hate the long lines (and the even longer wait to pickup your orders). As an example, I got 4 carne asasa tacos from this "Taco Los Guichos" joint. 10 minutes to order, 25 minutes to pick up, I wish I could say it's worth the wait. The tacos were not good at all. They give you a lot of meat, very little onion and cilantro, too much jalapeno, so the flavor profile is all wrong -- all you can taste is the spicy meat (which to be honest doesn't' taste all that great.) The flour tortillas were also a bit dry like they had been under a heat lamp for some time. My #1 FAVORITE taco joint in L.A. is in Hawthorne -- Ricos Tacos El Tio. This is one of the businesses inside of Northgate Market and probably the most popular. We went on a very busy night and were told that it's like that every night. Line was already at 40 minutes for taco pickup when we got to the front but the tacos were worth it for sure. We tried everything.... Carne Asada, Pollo, buche, cabeza, lengua and chorizo. The didn't have a couple of the items on the menu but it didn't matter since we were super full after eating the ones we got. The lengua was the best, super tender. But they were all good and the salsa was really fresh tasting and tied it all together. This place has the longest line for a reason. FYI, no taco tuesday deals, but worth it anyways. read more

This stand is probably the second busiest, with large lines during lunch and dinner hours. Despite that they get food out pretty quick. I ended up getting the Al Pastor, Carne Asada, and Suadero tacos. Tacos are street sized but they add a generous amount of meat. The Pastor and Asada were both pretty good, I liked the salsa a good amount as well. The star was the Suadero though, it was delicious and one of my favorite Suadero tacos that I've had. Went to Northgate Market in Costa Mesa for the first time. Walked around when we got there to figure out what we were going to eat. We saw Tacos Los Guichos was the longest line so we decided on this. I of course was assigned the responsibility to wait in line while wife and kid continued to explore the big market. It was about a half hour wait but tacos were real quick. Nice thing is they text you when your tacos are ready. We got one of each Al Pastor, Carne Asada, Suadero, Lingua and twice chickens. The chicken tacos were spicier than expected and the Suadero was as little salty. Over all great tacos. Kid said we should've gotten more as she was still hungry but we knew we wanted to save room for a churro. Wait was worth it but with so many other places here, we probably will try something else next time we come to the Northgate Market. read more

I missed my name being called and they just had my food on the side covered in foil so it wasn't hot by the time I ate them but you would think if it's covered it would still be. Idk the communication just seemed off cause I asked someone if they had called my name and they never really gave me an update and if they call your name twice then they won't call it again which is my fault but still. Anyways the tacos weren't really good to me. It didn't have much flavor and the tortillas were dry in my opinion. I have had better tacos elsewhere and prefer those to these. read more
