We moved to Dekalb last August 2017, we are always trying new restaurants, my husband was hungry and checked the restaurants around , he was happy that they close at 3am, he ordered and the food was pretty good, we live only 2 blocks away, we were ordering every week, my husband have that if he likes a place he becomes a regular customer, they started messing up on the orders, we will have to always call because they will not have the order right, finally we stop ordering, it was a while and we said let's try it again, what a mistake I am Hispanic from Costa Rica and I know how to make ceviche, is a traditional dish in our Country, at first when we started to order it was good, then they stop been good not fresh and they never put jalapenos to the ceviche today we order and the ceviche was full of jalapenos as you can see on the pictures, I call them up to ask and they are such a liars, the lady who answer said they always make that way when is a lie, I had it before, then she says oh I am going to ask the cook, then she says oh no he says he didn't put any peppers, well there you go they are there, had ceviche in many other places they never put any jalapenos or hot sauce unless the customer order that way, the fish is as puree, you cant tell if is fish or what, what a way to impressed good customers we will order even twice a week, we got the message you don't want us as customers, rasist thinking that I am American because I don't look Indian or dark skin, horrible, I will contact Ice to see if they even have papers, that food is a disgrace, and they know us too, horrible. read more

The first group are the students who sometimes come for lunch but more often come when the bars are closing and they are looking for Burritos and Nachos. These students will order steak burritos, chicken burritos or even a burrito filled with French Fries. However, those Mexican families and other foodies in the know recognize that on Friday-Monday, Rudy is ready with an array of foods that includes oysters, whole red snapper, tilapia, robalo (snook), octopus, squid, and the best Tacos Al Pastor that I have tasted from California to Florida. Order some chilled raw oysters that are covered with a mix of shrimp, octopus, peppers in a vinegary marinade. Perhaps you should try the Hauchinango, a whole red snapper deep fried and covered in a spicy sauce. Besides the seafood you can find half a chicken marinated for two days and prepared on a grill or some extra large steak tacos also prepared on the grill. If you are not adventurous you will stick with the combination plates, tortas, tacos and burritos. I ordered the saddest avocado torta from here today. Barely any refried beans, only one slice of tomato, and the sandwich was not cut in half like I remember. I don't really care about the cut of the torta, to be honest, besides that, it was bad. Barely toasted buns. This was on a Friday. The place was full and the food prep was terrible! Go to La Salsa, if it's still open. They prep everything so neatly and tasteful. This torta was bad. I've had other stuff from their menu. If I had to choose between Late Night Mexican food in DeKalb, I'd go with this place. Taco Bell makes me shit lava, and the average employee doesn't understand what "No sour cream" means. And Burrito Loco's delivery dude always smells like grass. So Burritoville wins, by a wide margin! There are some places in DeKalb that just scream "Late night meal", and this is one of them. They're open late, the food is decent quality (nothing to write home about), and the prices are on the cheap side - provided that you don't get fancy and order seafood cocktails or something. The service isn't super-perky friendly, but they do a decent job and are on top of refills and keeping the place as clean as they can get it. Burritoville really, really reminds me of the divey Middle Eastern joints on the north side of Chicago. Lots of drunk patrons, adequate food (with decent portions), and a steadily-aging building that thrives thanks to a decent location. I'd recommend avoiding Burritoville on Rush Week, since the place is crowded with puking, stumbling drunk freshman who turn the bathroom into a toxic cesspool in about five minutes. read more

I was visiting my family and we went here to eat. I've heard their food quality has gone down. But still went after my mom insisted we went. The service was a Sh!t show. The server was slow af and quite frankly she seemed like she wasn't fit to have that kind of job. Dishwasher MAYBE but definitely not someone to deal with food and people. She was giving me a container to small to fit my food and when I asked for a bigger size she scoffed. She was taking so damn long to get my check I just got up to the window and the other server completely ignored me as if I wasn't a 6 inches away from her face. At that point I was down right pissed and wanted to leave so I just looked at her and demanded that someone ring me out so I can leave. She still ignored me but the person that was 8 feet away magically heard me. And was ducking around with the rude server as if I didn't show my disinterest of being there. When I got my receipt everything was charged separately.... what kind of restaurant charges you separately for EVERYTHING? NO MEALS. So if you want a burrito with rice and beans be prepared to buy those sides separately. Oh and being your own guacamole if you aren't in the mood to pay $4.99 for a shmear of guac. I saw they charged me a dollar extra for the damn burritos when the menu says $7.99 they charged me $8.99. When I argued with the owner about it he said items have a up charge for COVID when there are no signs saying that and nothing on the menu saying that. After telling him that he said "we had a sign up for 3 months" when I told him I was visiting and that if he is going to do that he needs to let his customers know by a sign by the door or somthing on the menu he rudely say "ok you want your dollar back? Fine easy." And when I corrected him that it was 2 dollars since I got two he dug in his pockets and gave me two dollars. I know its just 2 dollars and I could have let it slide but the whole experience being sh!t I was not willing to let that go. Especially if the food wasn't worth 60 dollars. Today is the second day I've been here and it will be the last. First, apparently they don't take credit cards on Sunday's. So my mom, uncle and sister came up to visit so we thought this place was okay. We walk in and see the sign "cash only on sundays" so we proceed to walk out and we are all out the door one of the workers follows us out and goes "what you don't like the restaurant or something???" And my husband goes "we don't have enough cash and we don't want to pay the atm fee" he goes "it's okay I'll talk to the owner" so we decide to stay. The lady who took our order was nice but screwed up a lot. My uncle ordered no tomatoes and got tomatoes then I ordered the #2 combination with chicken. Guess what I got? Beef. Then my sister apparently had enough cash to pay for everything and the lady at the register takes my husbands card while my mom is saying "hold on, we have enough cash" then swipes his card and goes "well I already processed it" in the most rudest way rolling her eyes. This place is great. Relatively authentic. There seems to be groups of regulars that have Spanish as their first language, if it's good enough for them it's good enough for me. It's a cross between a fast food and sit down restaurant. You pay at the counter and then they bring you your food. Don't expect them to check up on you but sometimes they do. Chips and salsa included if you eat inside and they're not busy. Would have given five stars but the bathroom happened to be trashed when I used it. Biggest waste of time and money. They can't get shit done. I ordered $25 worth of food from them tonight. They made up my order way before the "estimated" delivery time- which is always great. The driver called me and saidthat he would be there in 5 minutes (15 minutes*). When he delivered my food i noticed that he did not have the two drinks and chips that i had ordered. I asked him about it and he pointed to the hand written recipt on the bag.-- ok no biggie. Its not his fault at all as he was most likely not the one who put my order again. I told him Id call the resto. I called the resturant and told them that my order is missing 2 drinks and chips. The woman seemed to almost argue with me about the missing items as if she too was realizing that the recipt they wrote for my order was not the order that i had placed on eatstreet. After they had confirmed that they would send the rest of the food, I returned to the room with the person i was with. I had ordered them Mexican style tacos, which ended up being American style. If you know the difference- its a big one. That was the beginning of the final straw. They insisted that i did not call back to complain. The same delivery guy came and delivered the drinks and chips. I was shocked that they had put a large drink and a medium drink in the same bag. The medium drinks lid popped off and spilled in the bag. The chip bag had 2 salsas thrown in there. The 2 lids came completely iff and spilled everywhere. I know its hard transporting liquids. Burritoville is great for late nite food. It has a great location right next to all the frat parties at NIU. If you enjoy burritos, tacos, etc. then this place is for you. It can get a little crowded during nite hours and 75 percent of the people there are drunk. read more

I was very disappointed in my last visit here after having so many fond memories of my drunken night here. The place is still packed with drunken fools but the food just isn't the same. My sister found a piece of something strange in her burrito that we were not unable to identify. It was too pliable to be a bone and really didn't look like anything that we could recognize. It was my first time visiting NIU... and of course all of us got sloshed. At 3 am when nothing was open, we were forced to go with Burritoville. One of the NIU locals made the order: 2 orders of nachos with ground beef, quesadillas, and a taco. The ground beef flooded the nachos like soup, the taco was the size of a lemon, and the quesadillas were 1/4 decent, only because everything else tasted like feces. Place was garbage. I love Burritoville! I do admit, the first time I went to Burritoville, I was pretty intoxicated, so it really seemed wonderful. I did return sober and still love it! It does get a bit crowded during the late evenings, but that's because they have karaoke. I really love Burritoville because they make everyone feel welcome! Very open environment. We haven't lived in Dekalb in 4 years... and I still travel the half-an-hour there sometimes for their Cuban Sandwich. Ham, roast pork, white cheese (I usually get easy onions and no jalapenos - because I'm a doughy white guy), a sliced hot dot, and kind of a spicy bean spread and, I believe some mayo - all on homemade torta bread. Heaven! I have tried Cuban sandwiches everywhere I see them... including in Miami. This is my favorite anywhere. I live in Aurora and you can throw a penny in any direction and hit a burrito place and I still drive out to Dekalb for this sandwich. Top 3 sandwiches I've ever eaten. Period. I was very disappointed in this restaurant when I went to eat for lunch there. Not only do their prices not match what's online, but then they overcharge you if you order a certain type of meat. I guess I'm just disappointed that what I ordered for lunch that should have been $5.99, came out to more than eight dollars. On top of that, the chimichanga that I ordered was not drained of the oil that it was Cooked in, so when I got it it was sitting in a thick layer of oil. I was overall disappointed in them. Burritoville is a Mexican fast food joint. The ingredients are cheap and so is the food. They offer many dinners for 5.75. Their Horchata is very sweet and not natural, probably a powder mix. I would recommend it if you are very drunk and like Mexican food. read more

The food wasn't terrible. I had the chicken enchilada and my wife had chicken fajitas. Their horchata was delicious and the meal was decent. However, we had a very un-attentive waitress and some of the owners or higher ups of the place were sitting in the dining area, drunk and a tad belligerent. I love their tacos. I love their tamales. I hate their delivery services. I usually order a few tacos and a few tamales, and it takes up to two hours to have them delivered.
