I ordered the fajitas with shrimp, chicken, & steak...the meat was so tender and the shrimp was cooked beautifully!! I also ordered a Top Shelf margaritas on the rocks with salt on my rim!! That was hands down the best margarita I have ever had!! My hubs ordered the Mexican pizza and it was so full of meats and veggies, even he couldn't finish it. "If the kitchen is full of white guys, we're walking," I told him as we went in. We've seen several restaurants come and go in this building since we moved to Anderson a few years ago, but this one stands out for being anything other than Generic Midwest "Home Cookin'." I realized that the new exterior blue-and-orange colour scheme was significant when I crested the 8th Street Bridge one morning to see the new sign shining through the pre-dawn dimness. The kitchen was not in fact full of white guys. The building has been sold outright, and the new owners have obviously put a lot of work and money into the renovation. The space has been opened up to provide a lot more seating room. We were provided the requisite nachos and salsa upon being seated. The chips were warm, and the salsa was light, fresh, and full of cilantro. We split a supreme plate; a taco, a chile relleno, a burrito, a tamale, and one more thing I can't remember the name of. The burrito, tamale, and chile all shared a plate, and were too heavily doused in a salty tomato-based sauce. All of the items were beef; I'd like to come back and try something with chicken or shrimp before drawing a final conclusion. Despite the plate being a lot of food for the two of us, we tried the fried ice cream as well. It was novel, but the ice cream's texture was more icy than creamy, suggesting a lower fat content due to poor quality. They serve alcohol, which will improve their chances of lasting more than six months in a town that has a very high turnover for independent restaurants. read more

I rarely give five stars to a Mexican restaurant. However, I couldn't come up with a reason to give Burro Loco four stars. You start with fresh chips and salsa. I like hot fresh chips and that is what was brought out to me. The star was the Salsa. It had flavor and was spiced correctly. It was a bit on the chunky side but that is how I personally like it. The entrée was a shrimp dish cooked in a green tomatillo sauce. The sides were the typical beans and rice. The shrimp was cooked perfectly. The green tomatillo sauce was outstanding. The sauce has a kick and was spicy, but I really enjoy hot and spicy and this met my expectations. I though the beans and rice were prepared correctly and they tasted better than the standard beans and rice at most Mexican places. I was greeted quickly and was seated immediately. Chips and salsa was there within a minute. Overall the service was excellent. The place is clean and you can tell the owners and workers take pride in providing you an outstanding experience. I stop here before going to Mounds state park. If I am ever back in Anderson, I will definitely be back. If you are bored of chain restaurants and think for yourself and are not manipulated by millions of dollars in TV commercials to make yourself believe you have to eat average to below average overpriced food at some chain restaurant, I am one of you. This was my first time trying this restaurant and it was amazing!! I had the taco salad fajita with chicken and loved every bite! It was even enough food to last for two meals! We were also advised to ask for the "special hot sauce" because we love spicy food! It was very good! The spiciness creeps up on you and then just kind of stays in your mouth for a while! If you like spicy food, give it a try! About a month later: My family and I decided to come back for some delicious Mexican food for Father's Day! This time I tried the Mexican Cheesesteak, which is also magnificent! I ate ALL of it! And I never do that! read more

First time here. 7/31/2021. Ordered the Paella. Has shrimp, scallops, beef and chicken with green peppers and onions. Was a VERY large portion enough for 2 plus meals for me. Service was good and food came really fast. The beef and chicken was dry and chewy, the rice was gummy and the green peppers needed to be cooked more but still was good. read more

Ordered take-out on a Thursday night. The place was nearly full for a weeknight and was loud with high energy. I ordered a cheese quesadilla and sides of pico de gallo and guac. I am a guac aficionado (aka, I only trust myself, Chipotle, and Qdoba to make quality guac), so I am always worried when ordering guac at restaurants. The guac taste pretty good, but I, personally, didn't care for the smooth consistency - prefer it chunkier. I wouldn't order the pico di gallo again, but I mixed it in with the salsa that was complimentary, and it made the salsa even better. The reason I am writing my review: The manager (I'm assuming) brought me my take-out order and told me that he gave me 2 quesadillas, because one of them was a little too crispy and he wanted to make sure it was perfect. Don't think it had anything to do with the cute running outfit I was wearing - kidding. That's good customer service. And the quesadillas were great! read more
