This local eatery runs on charm, dedicated hard-working family and staff, and some of the best Mexican martinis we've had in the Austin/Round Rock area. Our server couldn't have been more friendly and outgoing. She was swamped (it was prom night with lots of formally clad students dining in) but never broke a sweat, never made us feel rushed or unattended and had a big smile from ear to ear throughout. I can't remember her name but I believe she is one of the owners daughters - and she's a real asset to the restaurant. My husband had a combination platter with all the favorites - enchiladas, taco, and a tamale, which he thoroughly enjoyed. I opted for something that was a little less---well, you know----but when in Rome---don't eat the spinach and mushrooms----get the tacos, savor the enchiladas. First visit here after a recommendation. It's a small hole in the wall type of restaurant. The waitresses are super friendly and helpful and were able to give us samples of a few sauces so we can see if we liked it. The portion sizes are more than generous, with the food having outstanding taste. We had mole enchiladas and tostadas. They bring out chips and salsa to start and serve Pepsi products. We didn't indulge in any libations this go round but we will definitely be back. It's nicely decorated in the Tex Mex style and has the old school restaurant feel. It's a little overpriced for what it is but it gets the job done. FAST FACTS: * Parking - lot out from of the building with plenty of spots * Happy Hour - couldn't find updated days and hours but they do have HH specials * Lunch specials from 11 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday SERVICE - We arrived around 6:30 pm on a Monday and they weren't busy at all (although it was Cinco de Mayo and they got busier as the night went on). We were seated right away and had complimentary chips and salsa brought to the table immediately (they're very mediocre). Our server, Fatima, made sure we had refills throughout the meal and the food came out quickly. PRICING - The total was $65.45 after tax ($4.99) but before tip for a Burros queso ($10.49), shredded chicken quesadilla ($14.99), Javier's plate ($17.49), and carne asada ($17.49). For basic Tex Mex, it seemed a little overpriced but the portion sizes are good. BURROS QUESO (6/10) - This is a basic chili con queso... it's topped with ground beef, guacamole, and pico but not much. I don't think I'd order this again because it isn't worth it for the price... I'd rather just order a small chili con queso. SHREDDED CHICKEN QUESADILLA (6/10) - It's a pretty standard chicken quesadilla served with shredded lettuce, pico, sour cream, and guacamole. You do get plenty of shredded chicken inside! This is great to split as an appetizer or get as an entree. I'd order this again. JAVIER'S PLATE (6/10) - It's a good portion size but nothing special. The grilled skirt steak had a nice flavor but is kinda hard to cut up and eat. You get rice, beans, and a small tortilla cup with lettuce, pico, and guacamole. I probably wouldn't order this again because I'd rather try other things. CARNE ASADA (6/10) - Again, it's a good portion size but nothing special. The grilled chicken breast is the same price as the diced skirt steak which doesn't quite make sense to me but you get a decent amount of sautéed onion, tomatoes, serano peppers, mushrooms, and zucchini. Again, you get rice, beans, and a small tortilla cup with lettuce, pico, and guacamole. I'd order this again if I want to get in some veggies with my meal. This was my first visit to Burros Tex Mex Bar and Grill and I probably won't rush to come back because there are other Tex Mex restaurants nearby that I prefer. Wonderfully welcoming and friendly service in a bright, spacious restaurant. Locally owned and run, this family restaurant was full of local families. That's always an indication of great food! I got the medium beef brisket wrapped burro with black beans and a side of guacamole. It was filling and delicious as the meat was tender and not too chewy. For my drink, I had the michelada with Dos XX as my beer of choice. It was okay as it tasted fairly watered down, so I probably would recommend another drink choice unless you are a big fan of micheladas. The service was great with our server being very patient and taking her time to answer all our questions regarding the menu. The food did take some time to get out to us but we did have a party of 5 and the restaurant was fairly busy. This restaurant is in a standalone building with a strip center directly behind it. We decided to come here after the lunchtime rush when the place was basically empty. When seated the complimentary chips and salsa show up and they prefer that you scan their menu. They do have a large physical menu, but I was told not all the prices were correct. They do serve some very good spicy red salsa infused with cilantro and the chips are decent. They do have a full bar, great frozen margaritas and beer on tap, but nothing in the way of local craft beer. The do have a specially priced lunch menu that runs til 4pm. The interior is a little bit dated, and I wouldn't exactly call it spotless, but it does have "character". We started off with a XX and a large frozen margarita ($12.99!). I had the beef enchiladas and my friend had the shredded chicken burrito lunch special. The food was pretty good Tex-Mex, but not anything extraordinary. The only complaint I have is that neither the chips nor the hot sauce was ever replenished. As long as you don't have very high expectations of TexMex, this place will hit the spot for you. Another great Tex mex restaurant in round rock near hutto. Great environment, very Hispanic Mexican dining room, a lot of fun. Mix a few margaritas in the night and it will be a nice time. I ordered Togo and the food was great, the queso was warm, rich, creamy, gooey, and cheesy, nice chips to come with so the queso is fire. The guacamole dip was good but I've had better. It's fresh but it's missing a few key ingredients. It needed more sharpness with chopped red onions, more cilantro, more lime, juice, and more salt. Just missing that extra punch and it didn't do it for me but a decent dish. Now the main part of the dish with the shrimp fajitas can you talk about freshness? Can you talk about authentic? And can you talk about bringing the sea to your mouth? Man those char shrimp was amazing, fresh chopped vegetables, charred with oil on the outside with the creaminess of the refried beans. Mixed with nice Mexican rice, it's a nice bite from the firm, yet crispy shrimp. The shrimp I believe does not come frozen, if it does, I can't tell the difference, it's yummy. The carne asada, same oily, chard vegetables from the bell peppers and the white onions, give that snap you need with the dish. The clean cut vegetables mixed with the dense meat but seasoned well, it wasn't dry but the meat was moist too. A little pink in the center and I appreciated that. The chicken enchiladas dish, it's what I expected, semi dry chicken wrapped in a corn tortilla, then mixed with the cheese and sides. I feel like most restaurants in Austin if you order chicken enchiladas, the chicken is automatically dry, its just the city I guess? Bit of a belated review from last week when we randomly had to be in Round Rock around dinner time and needed to find a place to eat, and well, this option seemed better than most. It's definitely kind of cute in there will the whole donkey theme, and we had a cozy little booth, but the food left a lot to be desired. First of all, chips and salsa were a pretty big disappointment--we hated their particular brand of chips and the salsa had zero pizzazz. Same with the queso: Meh with a capital M. The rest of the meal followed suit. The chicken carnitas tacos (carnitas can even *be* chicken????) were bland, unimaginative, and looked like they came fresh from the freezer. The steak burrito was equally disappointing as were all the sides we had. There was just no...no life to the food at all. We did appreciate their happy hour frozen marg and margarita martini though. We recently had a late lunch at Burros. We'd wanted to try this restaurant based on reviews and a friend's recommendation. The place was pretty empty, and we were told to seat ourselves. A server came by almost immediately and brought the water that I requested, as well as some really good chips with hot salsa. Mondays are all-day happy hours, so I ordered a house margarita ($4.99). My husband had a glass of merlot. Service was on the slow side. A different person took our main course orders, and it took awhile for both our drink orders and main course orders to arrive. I enjoyed my mushroom and spinach enchiladas with a slightly tango poblano sauce, but the sides were relatively tasteless. My husband said his brisket enchiladas were unremarkable, basically dry brisket wrapped in tortillas. He agreed that the sides lacked much flavor. I liked my frozen margarita (served in a thick plastic glass) but was charged full price for it (and didn't bring this up when the check arrived because the difference was only a dollar). Discovered this place recently and went in for dining . This was one of the few Mexican restaurants around round rock and wanted to give it a try . Went here on a Friday and we did not have any wait time although restaurant was filled with people. Ambiance was good with a Mexican theme going on. We ordered the añejo tequila margarita, chicken enchiladas and chile relleno with cheese . Food was great and we felt it was way better than other tex mex places that we have tried before . Spice level was apt and they were able to customize our orders with chipotle or ranchero sauces and also gave us grilled jalapeños which was so well done . The sauces were the highlight and they were near authentic to some of the ones we tried in Mexico . The only reason for a 4 star is that the drink arrived so late and was very sugary and wasn't that great inspite of ordering it with the expensive liquor . I ordered the Smothered Burro with beef brisket and it was delicious. It was also enormous and cost only $12.99. The dish came with complimentary chips and salsa, which were brought out first, as well as an avocado salad and a side of rice. The restaurant is nicely decorated, clean, and spacious. My server was also very helpful and attentive.
