    Old fashioned in the making

I was browsing online for a location with a chill unique vibe and found this place. It has interesting art pieces with homage to various artists. We visited for the first time today and decided to split the Picatta Mixta for 2. It offered a nice variety and was all delicious! The chicharrones were crispy and savory. Yuca wedges were crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside, and the texture and mild taste was a nice contrast paired with the meats: beef and chicken fajitas as well as chicharrones. By the way, the chicken had a fresh-grilled taste. The beef was tender and tasty too! The dish also came with tostones and arepas that I recommend eating with the garlic cilantro dipping sauce. The slaw and guacamole are also nice additions to anything on the platter. The bartender is friendly and helpful. There's a good variety of mixed drinks and other beverages. I enjoyed the Dragon cocktail, a sweet and sour drink with a bit of spice. Their old fashioned is good, too. I am eager to return and try more of the menu.

Our server Ywrybhe was friendly, sociable, and very informative in making recommendations. I tried the burger and fries along with a signature cocktail that Ywrybhe recommended. The service was great, and the drinks, food, and ambience were all excellent.

The Point ATX may be marketed as a social bar with American food, but a closer look at the menu reveals a delightful fusion of Latin American flavors, influenced by the Venezuelan, Cuban, Mexican, and Colombian roots of its owners and staff. We came in search of authentic Venezuelan cuisine--cachapas, empanadas, and tequeños--and were thrilled to find all this and more, alongside classic American bar fare. Everything we tried was delicious, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. We'll definitely be back. Highly recommend!

The reason for our visit is their month-long Star Wars pop-up that started 5/4/26 (of course). They nailed it in every sense of the imagination from themed drinks (alcohol and n/a) to the interior and exterior decor. Hoot & Annie is currently The Mos Eisley Cantina. And, it is! It's as though we've been transformed from this town that's about 20 minutes from Austin to the actual Mos Eisley Cantina. My boyfriend is a huge Star Wars nerd and absolutely loves it. The food was genuinely excellent, and the service was warm and attentive throughout. The bed was also a standout -- more comfortable than what I've experienced at most four-star hotels. I also loved the in-room Nespresso machine, which was a great touch. The only drawbacks are the location and setting. It's not ideal if you want to be close to a more metropolitan, walkable area, and being right on the creek means there can be quite a few bugs, especially in the evening. Overall, I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a relaxing, stylish getaway with great food and very comfortable rooms.

This charming, quaint boutique hotel is located in a residential neighborhood in Round Rock, TX. The Ruby Hotel & Bar is situated along Brushy Creek in historic downtown Round Rock. The hotel has 39 uniquely designed rooms and suites, in the suburbs of Austin, TX. The hotel blends mid-century modern design with natural surroundings, creating a chic vibe. The property is distinctly divided into to major buildings...the hotel and the bar. There is a random small building up front also...not sure what that buildings for. There is also outdoor seating, which would be pleasant in the summer. Last night we had freezing temperatures, so sub-optimal for seating outside. When we entered the bar, we felt transported to another place in time. Retro looking furniture at the entry with finger dialed phones...my nieces and nephews would likely not have any idea what these little machines called telephones were. The bar was a mix of old - building built in the 1960s....new - modern mirrors and bar. There was signage at the front of the bar that stated to seat yourself and place your order from the bar (different set up...for sure). We ordered the hummus plate minus pita bread plus more cucumbers. Alan, our server was very accommodating to make that switch. We had herbal hot tea (chamomile and pomegranate berry). We listened to the 3 person band, who sang music from Johnny Cash to Bob Marley and so many different genres in between. What a lovely evening...date night score!

I tried the donut burger. Interesting combo of sweet and savory. I really liked it. It was a happy gloppy burger and dessert all in one. Highly recommend. My wife had the breakfast sandwich. She loved it and said she would order again. My daughter had the avocado toast. Well there is a dish to get excited about. The son in law had the chicken and waffles. He really liked it. Located off Anderson Mill in the corner of a strip mall is a bookshelf with a door on the right side. If you cannot figure out the entrance, there is a doorbell to ring as well. I believe it is owned by the same people who own The Mill bar right next door, which makes it feel like a cool bonus space. My friend and I sat next to a faux fireplace, where we were greeted by the only bartender working and placed our order. Once he opened the tab, it was disappointing that he never came back to check if we wanted another drink. It wasn't super busy on the Monday we went, but since he was the only one manning the bar, the bartender was always doing something, so I don't blame him fully for not checking back in with us. I ordered a drink called the Velvet Vice. It looked nothing like the picture and tasted similar to an Aviation cocktail with egg whites. I happened to really like it. It is a very relaxed space, but once the speakeasy gimmick wears off, it does not have much else going for it. It is still a cool place, but I am not sure it was worth the lengthy drive to get there. Hubby ordered the filet $37, he thought it was good, but over priced. You get some yummy mashed potatoes but no side salad or veggies. Hmmm! We also ordered the happy hour deviled eggs.
