Jardin Del Rey has been a staple in Leander forever. Stoopid me for driving by this restaurant for over 10 years. There is no curb appeal, no fancy signs, and a dirt parking lot. But the parking lot is always packed, so we decided to stop in on a hot Sunday afternoon. We immediately noticed that most of the folks dining were regulars who knew the servers by name. Jardin is Tex Mex/Mex to the Max! Their Pechuga Gratinada a la Parrilla Platter with grilled chicken breast topped with melted Monterey Jack cheese, sauteed mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers was served moist with a tad bit of heat. My Chile-Relleno Poblano pepper stuffed with chicken arrived with a healthy amount of cheese and ranchero sauce, and served with guacamole, pico de gallo, rice, and refried beans. One nit, their tortillas are store-bought, according to Plus 1. They do have a full bar, and we both found that their Margaritas were a tad too sweet for us. Big kudos for offering me a gratis Father's Day tequila shot for my dessert! No, I was not driving.... Regardless of the nit, Jardin Del Rey goes right into our dining rotation. read more

I'm happy to increase my stars for this restaurant. My partner wanted to check them out, so we we popped in for lunch. The service was top notch! The beef and cheese crunchy tacos were very good. The beef was seasoned very nicely and they provided a generous amount of cheese as requested. The taco salad with grilled chicken was OK. The chicken was seasoned and cut nice and thin. It was very enjoyable. That said, the salad was generic. It clearly came out of a bag and was wet. Also, it was served on a plate instead of a taco bowl as advertised. I went to this restaurant yesterday and ordered a combo with a cheese enchilada, beef crispy taco and chicken flauta. Took three bites of the chicken flauta that didn't taste quite right. It tasted like chemicals. By 3:30am I had food poisoning. Hope the manager reads this to get rid of that chicken. I will not be going back there again, of course. This spot is a great choice for Mexican food in Leander. The staff is young and helpful. You have indoor and outdoor seating, options with TVs throughout the restaurant. They serve chips and salsa automatically and the queso is extra cheesy. I can personally recommend the verde chicken enchiladas as my favorite plate. The tortillas aren't south Texas style but they're decent. They serve Coke products and great sweet tea. There's plenty of parking so stop by. I would recommend it. read more

This is our go to dinner spot! No matter how packed the parking lot is, being seated at a table is always immediate. The staff has been running this restaurant forever & are complete pros. The food was simply not good! The ground beef in the nachos was not even seasoned and was flavorless, the chips had a weird after taste and the dab of guacamole & sour cream that was given on the side was so minimal, almost felt like I was being punked. Nothing really taste fresh or homemade, just microwave quality. Very sad, as I was really craving some Mexican flavor. Oh Jardin Del Rey. My once go to spot has disappointed me and the family. My Mexican Martini was not up to par, very watered down. The food has lost its authenticity. The chips are still served warm. Absolute worst beef taco I've ever had. The meat was grey, unseasoned and tasted expired. As we walked out, I saw a normal looking beef taco on another patrons plate, looked seasoned and properly cooked. Our 4th time visiting Jardin and it was fabulous. The ambiance was perfect, felt like I was in somebody's home, waiter was very attentive on refilling our chips and salsa and he was very friendly. Perfect tejano music playing over the speakers just adding to the vibes, it's that kind of music that you hear and it makes you crave Mexican food. Perfection. The chips were freshly fried and crisp and the salsa was just perfect, a little sweet, a little spicy, just right to keep you coming back for more. The tostada con queso, and fajita nachos were just classic and the fajita beef, enchilada, taco and beans and rice, just what the doctor ordered. There is no way I wouldn't give this place a 5 star review and come back every single time I am in the area, regardless of what other restaurants are in the area. A+ all around guys! Great work!!! Not sure why the bad reviews but I honestly loved this place. I love real Tex-mex, and this is it. This isn't your fancy Mexican food. Love the queso, i like the milder salsa, loved the chips. My dinner came out hot and crispy. Server was super attentive and always had drinks filled and fast delivery of food. Very nice guy too. Feels like you are visiting someone at their house, cozy little place. They do have indoor and outdoor seating. I would say it needs to be cleaned (ac vents) a little but over all love this place. When we lived in Leander 10+ years ago, this was our favorite Mexican restaurant. We were in town visiting friends and decided to check it out to see if the food tastes the same. We're so glad we did because it did not disappoint. The outside and interior don't look like much but the food is what matters. My hubby even recognized a server still working there after all these years. We received our complimentary chips and salsa and ordered queso + house margaritas to go along. Salsa had a good kick to it (as I remembered) and the queso was smooth & creamy. House margaritas were potent. Lol. I ordered my go-to sour cream chicken enchiladas with rice and refried beans and hubby ordered carne asada. The food came out fast and was seasoned to perfection. We sat there for a while caught up in nostalgia. So glad this place is still around and pumping out great food. We'll definitely make plans to return whenever we're in the Austin area. read more

Came here on a recommendation from a friend. Observations: 1. Service was "meh". The waiter was not knowledgeable about the cooking method of the Al pastor meat. We were told that it was cooked "en trompo" (on a vertical spit). And it clearly was not. Also, no trace of pineapple or pineapple flavor present. No one followed up to see if our meal was ok, or if we needed more drinks. 2. Seasoning/quality. I think it's really hard to mess up ground beef tacos. They looked beautiful on the plate, but there was little to no seasoning, and the meat was dry & tasteless. Very disappointing. 3. Salsa. Definitely for those who want a mild/no spicy temp on their salsa. We were told they have good margaritas, but I can't comment on that since I didn't imbibe. 4. Prices were a bit high. Overall just it's sub par. Many better options in the city. Access in and out from the road is difficult. read more

The food here is absolutely delicious. If you want super flavorful mexican cuisine for a VERY reasonable price. We were a party of 17 at 11 o'clock and we called ahead. When we arrived, the tables, chairs, and menus were ready for us. The employees are so so sweet and they tolerated our huge crowd without fail. They made no reasonable offer to compensate or complete the order as the receipt reflected and for which had been paid. We have been coming here for I think at least 10 to 15 years. They are, in my opinion, a Leander institution. They have consistently good food and service at reasonable prices. My favorite breakfast is Migas Con Queso (with the cheese sauce rather than shredded cheese) with ham mixed in. I just finished yet another order, and it was just right. My wife has a favorite lunch/dinner item: the chicken cooked with Tequila, which she orders (and loves) on her regular visits. Nothing amazing. Just a down homey Mexican diner type restaurant. This is my go to anytime I want Caldo. They always have beef, chicken, and tortilla caldo available. What a nice surprise for me when I returned from Michigan! The Hubster went up and ordered me a nice bowl of tortilla soup. It was delicious. Filled with lots of chicken, tons of carrots and mushrooms, they always provide a side of rice and cheese and mini guacamole salad! A sack of freshly made tortilla chips rounds out the presentation. This was just what I needed! I had had a wonderful time visiting my sister and I'm always sad to leave her but this was an awesome welcome home! Jardin has several locations and provides very easy access for all Tex-Mex fixes needed! We have frequented the one in North Austin, Cedar Park, Liberty Hill, and of course our own in Leander. The hubby always gets the crispy tacos, beef. Second runner up for him is their enchiladas of which he loves to get two beef and one chicken. Usually he has them covered in queso. Their salsa is a cross between mild and medium and their chips are always fresh and warm! I can't leave this site without mentioning their margaritas. They even have a tiny lunch size one so you don't have to feel like you're going overboard since it's not 5 o'clock yet!!!! If you're not a margarita person no worries, they have a full bar. Lunch - seated immediately with plenty of parking. My special was cold (enchiladas under heated) Spanish rice was more like mush with out flavor or color. The queso chips were a mess - a chalupa style would have been better than nacho style. Chips were fresh and a good quality. The enchilada gravy was good.
